Chapter One:

Moving On?

Emily's POV…

Emily is currently standing in front of her husband in a complete stupor. She's at a complete loss of words as her husband paces the dining room floor. In their three years of marriage Emily certainly has never witnessed Sam as furious as the man is now. Usually her husband's hold on his-self control is impeccable. Iron-chad if you will. He has always been calm and level headed. However at the moment such a statement can not be said.

As a child she was told that The Great Spirit Chiefs granted a gift to each young man among the tribe. To some they grant great wisdom, to others great courage. To a special few the Spirit Chiefs will grant them a spirit guide. A guide which allows them to merge as one being. Though this gift was only given when an evil far stronger than a mere man appears.

Sam Uley was the first of his generation to transform. A few years prior the elder wolves had stopped transforming. It is not an uncommon occurrence. Though it is very convention. Meant that when Sam transformed he did so alone at the tender age of fifteen.

A passing vampire nomad forced Sam's wolf to the surface. The leech had circled around La Push for days evading Sam's inexperienced form. Till one day the leech was too occupied shoving his prey to the ground to hear Sam's approach. That was how Emily realized that the stories of her tribe were true.

Yes, that night Emily was the leech's intended food source. She had honestly never been more terrified in her life. She was walking home from a late night shift at the local diner. Like she did every Saturday night. Emily would admit she wasn't totally aware of her surroundings. With her headphones on she was jamming out lost in her own world. The only worries being finishing up high school, saving up enough money for a car and her future college books. She was never one to really fear the dark. So walking the two blocks home alone at night really was nothing to her till…well...till it became something.

The yank to her hair was painful and unexpected. Though she was a woman she still came from a tribe of great warriors. She fought her attacker. She kicked, punched, and screamed. Though the man's grip never loosed and her reward for all her effort was the force of inhuman strength shoving her to the ground as elongated nails dragged across her face. She cried out as the man hissed at her to be still. Then just as the man was forcing her neck to the side she caught sight of the large black wolf charging their way.

Sam growled as he flung the leech from her body using only his mussel. Emily wasted no time scrabbling away from the two. Hiding behind a set of bushes tucked along the sidewalk. She could not believe how gratifying the sound of girlish wailing and crunching bone could be till that moment.

Even so Emily didn't come out of her hiding spot. She was frozen in fear. Her legs were nothing but jelly. Her whole body was shaking to its core. Till she heard the heavenly voice of the one and only Sam Uley. She quickly popped out of the bushes then flung herself at the very bloody and very naked man. Never had she cried so hard. Sam just held her close as he buried his nose in her hair. Breathing her in. Relief flooded Emily's veins at the simple fact that she wasn't alone anymore. She didn't know then but soon found out that she would never be alone again.

After Sam's first official kill the tribe gave him the title of alpha. Then shortly after the Cullen came rolling into the next town over. Forcing two more boys from the tribe to transform. With the Pack growing in size the Cullens thought it best not to stay long. Much to Sam's delight.

Sam became a good Alpha. He never wanted what happened to Emily to repeat again. He trained the others hard and trained himself harder. Every member of his pack wolf or not was loved and cared for.

Then three years down the road Cullen's moved back to Forks. This was not ideal for any of the wolves but for Sam it was quite an adjustment. Two months before the Cullen's' arrival Sam Uley stepped down as Alpha. Emily knew Sam. She knew it was tearing him apart.

Since Jacob Black was the next in line to be chief he had the birthright to be the alpha. Sam was nothing more than a stand in till Jacob turned of age. At first Sam was happy to hand over all the responsibilities of guiding the pack to Jacob. After a little while it became very clear to everyone that Jacob didn't care.

To Jacob it was a game. He pushed around his pack mates for the hell of it. He threw parties and never all became lazy pups. Sam could do nothing but watch as his life's work was thrown down the drain. It was driving her beloved wolf crazy.

"Sam…Honey, maybe it's time to move on?" Asked Emily. "To move away and start anew. You always wanted to see the big city lights. We could go to Seattle or Memphis or even Chicago. We could go anywhere you wanted to go."

Sam stopped his pacing to glare at the wall. His shoulders were tense and his back was straight. Emily could tell his wolf was on edge. More like just below the surface wanting to bust out in fury.

"Em. You know as well as I that I can't." Sam growled out.

"Yes! Sam you could! You just have to ask the elder's permission to leave."

"Even if I could get permission from the elders. With the shape the pack is in, it is highly unlikely they would let me leave. Besides, Em the lone wolf dies. It needs a pack to survive. Two Em is not a pack." Yelled Sam.

"The pack's condition is no longer your problem to solve. It's Jacob's. Plus I talked to Paul. He said that you are his true alpha and wherever you are is where he is supposed to be." Emily countered. With conviction in her voice, she stepped closer to Sam grabbing him by his hands. In an effort to steal herself rather than to comfort Sam. She takes a breath and places his hands on her belly."With Me, You, Paul and our baby that makes four. That makes a pack. Sam."

Sam's breathing stopped. Emily was waiting on the right moment to tell Sam and now seemed as good as any. She knew how Sam felt about kids when they first got together. He didn't want them. He never wanted his boys to ever go through what he had. That was years ago. She had hoped his feelings had changed. After all, a child created from their love would be strong enough to weather anything.

"I…You…We're…" Sam's eyes began to water and his arms shook almost violently. "Baby!" Exclaimed Sam as he wrapped Emily in his large arms. Hugging her tightly to him. Tears falling from his eyes. Laughter slipped past his lip. "Emily, you're amazing! Thank you." With those words his bent down pressed his lips to her. Passion and happiness being felt through the kiss.

"So I take it that we are keeping the baby." Emily asked breathlessly.

"Yes! And I promise you that child will be loved by both his parents and all his siblings."

"Siblings?" Emily asked meekly.

"Yes. Siblings."

"Okay."

"Okay." Sam whispered. "I'll talk to the elder's tomorrow…No…Screw that! Tonight. I'll tell them that we are leaving. I'm not asking. Make a list of the things that will be needed for the move. Texted it to me. I'll pick it up while I'm out."

"Where are we going?" Asked Emily.

"When I get back with Paul I will pull out the map, toss a coin and where it lands if all agree that's where we will go."
