You guys are really insane, you know? Got twice as many views already!

Anyway, I've been dying to get this chapter out for a while. Of course, I had to consider some things…such as what exactly Beatrice would understand. It isn't really off the mark for Subaru to talk about things from his home, so she would understand a few words in Subaru's language.

A few.

Enjoy!

Beatrice was right. The feeling did pass over.

But the feeling had come back, intensifying tenfold, and burst through her doors in the middle of the night in the form of two frenzied maids. She almost assumed that they had her contractor with them with how fast they found her, only for the thought to fade as she looked past them and saw every other door open.

…they really looked through the entire mansion to find her.

The Great Spirit sighed in annoyance and rubbed the bridge of her nose, snapping her book shut. "...you have a reason to bother me, I suppose?"

The blue haired one- Rem, was it?- had went forward, and held out…a strange box with black glass on it. "Beatrice-sama! This…do you know what this is?" She sighed and shook her head, her deep blue eyes regarding them with a deadpan.

"...why do you have Subaru's metia?" She narrowed her eyes in suspicion, much to the discomfort of the ogres.

"W-Well…e-er…" Rem had found herself at a loss for words, as she realized that she didn't think through the fact that Beatrice-sama isn't the type of person to help without question. "...well…you see…"

Ram bowed lightly, her voice slightly going through her stutters. "...we- er- we…broke it."

Rem wanted to argue that it wasn't…but nothing they did was working. No amount of taps, swipes, nor button presses would get the thing to turn on again. It was as if it was angry at them and decided to go to sleep.

Beatrice arched her eyebrow in response, and looked over it.

…no scratches. No hints of blunt impact. Not even anything pierced. It looked brand new. In fact, it looks like it was just made, if not for the slight warmth that came from extended use and holding.

"...you didn't put anything inside, I suppose?" Beatrice muttered as she turned it over and furrowed her brows. Why was there a half eaten appa on the back?

"No." Ram shook her head as she sighed. "...we were very careful not to damage it in any way."

'At least I was…'

It figured that it wouldn't be that easy. The spirit looked closer, and soon enough she realized something off about this.

There wasn't a single trace of mana within it. Of course, there was some outside, but that could have easily come from anyone in the Mathers mansion, or simply just from her holding it alone. Can this thing truly be classified as a metia?

She narrowed her eyes, and decided to use a bit of her own mana. She pushed through, not enough to break it (she hoped), but enough that she could at least learn about what is inside. The screen was glass, most of it was metal…but she could sense small, complex pieces of special metal inside. It felt thin, it felt…hot. As if sparks were coming off it. And if she was really careful…

"...something is absorbing mana inside, in fact…?" She hummed softly. True enough, there was something inside, something…hollow. Mostly, at least. Some of her mana that passed through wouldn't go back out, meaning that it was stored inside. She was put off by this, thinking that the metia was being enhanced, and right when she was about to pull away,

BUZZ!

She yelped and almost dropped the object, but caught it before it dropped. She looked at the glass screen in interest…

…and the half eaten appa appeared in a flash of light.

"Y-You fixed it!" Rem had exclaimed, immediately rushing forward to look at it.

Ah…so that's what it was. Beatrice hummed, a bit proud of her own discovery. "...there was a device inside that stores energy, in fact. You two must have used it to the point that its mana storage was depleted."

One could see Rem's entire body flood in relief. "T-Thank you Beatrice-sama!" She rushed to get the tool…only for Beatrice to hold her back.

"It's not ready, I suppose…I require more time to restore the mana of this…box." She sighed and went back to her table.

The two maids looked at the phone in such longing, it was almost as if they had lived with it for a lifetime. Still, they understood. If it had as much mana as if it could hold, they could use it as long as they liked. That was something the both of them could get behind. Bowing together, they would leave the room, closing the door behind them.

"..." The little librarian would sigh in silent relief. Alone at last…

And immediately, she placed the book down, and pressed the button on the strange metia. Now…

She wasn't ignorant enough to just get past the fact that the blue haired maid had been sneaking around at night, in her sleepwear, no less. If it was for this…utensil?

She wouldn't have thought too much of it, if the object in question wasn't a belonging of her contractor.

"That boy doesn't even know about this either, I suppose…" She whispered softly. Rem sneaking around meant that Subaru didn't give permission. Of course, she had to see what was so worth it.

She was faced with the first screen, and immediately, she swiped around, finding out how to unlock it in the first place. As Subaru's contractor, she had learned a number of things from the land he came from. Including a bit of his language. And while she didn't know nearly enough to fully understand the language, she knew a few choice words that would make her perk up.

And when she swiped left, the screen was unlocked, and it went back to the place Ram was at before, a…collection of moving pictures.

"...moments captured in time…?" She muttered under her breath as she kept swiping. She went past many of them, one of them a clown, which reminded her more of Roswaal, making her swipe faster to avoid it. Sighing defeatedly, she pressed one, simply wanting to see how-

Oh that is a WASTE of paper! Why are you folding it?! Now the creases won't go awa-

. . .

What.

"How are you doing that, in fact." The drill haired spirit had demanded the screen as she looked closer at the screen. How was the paper turning into creatures? It was starting to make a rough shape. Of course, she couldn't recognize it at this point, but the folds looked simple enough. Maybe if she did the same, she could-

Flap

. . .

No. Betty has to do this. There is no other choice.

In all the different timelines Subaru has been in this mansion, he thought he's seen it all. He's died too many times here, too many to not know what could be lurking in every corner. But at the same time, he's acquainted himself with the danger. Even now, the feeling of his heart constricting had lessened, as the cycle of the day had finally resolved itself within him, and he was more content just to…live here.

But a thousand deaths would not have prepared him for this.

"Beako!" He burst into the library with that wide grin of his, checking in on his favorite spirit. "I just wanted to check on you! Have you seen…my…"

"..."

". . ."

He didn't even see his cell phone on the table. He was looking straight into Beatrice's eyes, which were widened in shock and her cheeks cherry red as she slowly realized that she's been found out. He was too dumbstruck at the spirit loli on the floor, countless sheets of paper around her and…wait…was that-

"YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE, IN FACT!"

He was shocked out of his stupor at the screech of his guardian. "WHO- WHA- WAIT-"

"OUT!" Beako screamed, standing up, stomping her foot, and thrusting her hands out towards Subaru, a flood of mana rushing out. "OUT OUT OUT, I SAY!"

A sudden sense of vertigo had rudely interrupted him, and he could no longer tell if he was upright, or in space. He could only tell as his back had made contact with the floor and the air had been knocked out of his lungs, his eyes bulging out at the contact. He didn't even have the chance to get up and look at the aggressive spirit, before the doors slammed shut once more.

With a slight groan, he stood up shakily and rubbed his back. "Ow…that was harder than last time…"

He looked back at the library. Really, he just wanted to ask where his cell phone was. One day, he lost it around the house, and he hoped Beatrice would know where it was. Still, he wasn't too worried. Last time he checked, no one in this mansion would be too interested in it, nor know how it works. But still…

"...where did she learn how to make origami?" He muttered under his breath as he left the door. Maybe he can look around later. He still had to tend to the bushes outside.

Beatrice, panting heavily, was in front of the door, using her body to make sure no one was able to get in again.

That was too close. If he wasn't so focused on the mess on the floor, he would have looked up and taken the metia. Then she wouldn't be able to learn more of it. And she couldn't have that happen. No she couldn't.

With a groan, she covered her face, wiping sweat off her brow, before she looked at the little paper creation in her hands.

The paper crane had sat gracefully in her palm, and she held the neck and the base of the tail, and with a slight pull…

Flap

…something so simple…yet so adorable. She almost cooed as she admired those ridiculous, dotted, tiny eyes that held not a single thought behind them, as it flapped at her command. With slight control, she might be able to do it with magic. Maybe it could fly on its own!

"...the light box isn't so bad…I suppose…" She whispered softly, blissfully flapping the crane, before she looked back. What else can she do with all this spare paper?

…god, it's HARD trying to get Beatrice down. But I reduced her to a tsun-tsun loli spirit who likes cute and fluffy things and her own privacy. Maybe I'll get more when I watch more of the anime.

A flapping paper crane with a derpy face is pretty cute to someone who's never seen one before.

Man, that felt GOOD to write though! Hope you all enjoyed!~
