So should I be starting another story when I have others I should update instead? Probably not. I just had the idea for this pop in my head and then suddenly I had this chapter written. Anyway's I hope you enjoy this chapter.
Waking up in bed wasn't any special event for Jacob. The special event came when he opened his eyes and realized he wasn't in HIS bed. He wasn't lying on his thin pillows that had no pillow cases on them because he was too lazy to put actual covers on them, he didn't have the weighted blanket that he usually slept with, and he definitely did not have Mr. Quacks, his stuffed animal, with him either.
In conclusion, Jacob deduced that he had been kidnapped. It was a strong theory. Woke up in a bed that wasn't his and the room was nothing like his either. If he had been black out drunk maybe he could have slept at another person's house by accident, but Jacob doesn't drink so that doesn't work out either. So in Jacob's eyes kidnapping was a case with strong evidence and good logical deduction too.
Then Jacob actually paid attention to his surroundings and realized that his kidnapping theory wasn't nearly as strong as he thought.
First off, the room didn't look like a holding cell or some sort of basement a person would be held in. It looked like an average bedroom. It was an average 11ft by 12ft bedroom. Sitting up from his bed Jacob could see a door directly in front of him. On his right was a small nightstand with a half drank water bottle and an empty candy bar wrapper. To the left was a window that looked directly… into a wall. From the faint sunlight flashing on it Jacob could assume that either the sun was rising or setting. Jacob was leaning more towards setting.
"Man that is lame." Jacob thought. Although it probably would not have helped much, it still would have been nice if Jacob was able to see if he was in a large city or if he was in a small town.
Looking at the rest of his room, the walls were a pale yellow color and he had a ceiling fan that was currently whirling about keeping his room cool. There was also a door that led to what seemed to be a bathroom.
These were the first things to key Jacob in that he hadn't quite been kidnapped. The second thing were the items available to him. On his desk, besides the trash, was a phone. It was kinda like a modern iphone, but not really. It acted more like the iphones when they were first released. It wasn't as polished or clean looking as a modern iphone either. On the back of the phone was an icon for a company Jacob hadn't seen. It was a simple K and then C.
Besides the phone there was a computer on a desk next to the window. It was a laptop and seemed to look fine compared to modern laptops. It similarly had the same logo as the phone on the back of the laptop.
With all these other clues Jacob could safely confirm that he most likely hadn't been kidnapped. Unless the door was locked shut his kidnapping theory was most likely shattered. Of course, the next question to come would be what happened to him?
That, like everything else so far, was quickly answered. There sitting at the foot of his bed was a duel disk. Not one of those plastic toy ones bought for like $80 dollars at target. No, this one had a sleek look with metal parts. Either this was an elaborate prank or Jacob had been isekaid into yugioh gx. He knew it was gx because of the duel disk. It was one of those red and gray ones. It could also technically be the original series, but Jacob had a gut feeling that it was gx.
"Well that answers that. I have been officially isekaid or whatever into what is most likely yugioh gx. Now to figure out where I am and what day it is."
Jacob grabbed the door knob and twisted it to open it. Behind it there was….. a normal hallway that just led to what seems like a living room. There was some background chatter that sounded like it was coming from a tv of some sort.
"Honey, are you up!" A female cheerful voice called from down the hall.
Jacob's limbs grew rigid when he heard what the voice said. He could feel his insides grow cold from the feeling of despair that entered his body at the voice. It wasn't because he was scared that the person would hurt him. No it was something more than that.
It was the fear that he had just replaced some parents' kid with himself. That a kid lost his life in this world only to have his body hijacked by Jacob himself.
"Yeah I'm up." Jacob answered what felt like an eternity later. He walked into the living room.
Sitting on a gray couch was a middle aged woman. She had long brown hair that was let down and hazel colored eyes. She had both legs propped up on the couch and a book in one hand and a mug of what smelled like coffee in the other. When she noticed Jacob entering the room she sat the coffee and looked directly at him.
"Are you okay? It took you a little while to respond to the question?" she asked with a slight worried look on her face. "You aren't starting to feel under the weather due to your exam tomorrow, are you?"
"No, I am fine." Jacob reassured the woman who seemed to be his mother. " I just accidentally stubbed my pinky toe on the door is all."
"That's good- I mean it's not good, but well you know what I mean right. It wouldn't be good for you to start being sick the day before your exam." she said, trying to recover from her fumbling of words.
Jacob chuckled a little at that. "Yeah I get what you are saying and hopefully that doesn't happen."
"You better not, we paid good money for you to have dueling lessons just for it all to go to waste." A male gruff voice replied to the side.
Jacob looked over and noticed an older middle aged man. He was sitting in a recliner with a tv remote on one of the handles of the chair. He had short black hair on the top of his which seemed to be graying. He had blue eyes with a small mustache. He was currently looking directly at Jacob with a neutral face.
"Yeah it would be wouldn't it, but that won't happen so there isn't anything to be worried about." Jacob replied.
The man smiled at that. "Good to hear." He then grabbed the remote and unpaused the duel he had been watching on tv.
Jacob was curious to see what pro level dueling looked like in the duel world. He walked over to the couch his mother was on and sat down to watch the match.
(30 minutes later)
Jacob was disappointed. Not to say that he had high expectations for the duel, but he was hoping that the duelist would be better. They were at about what Jacob would expect for gx level decks. They weren't bad, probably really good by this society's standards, but he was hoping for better.
"Oh would you look at the time it's getting rather late." Jacob's mom stated out loud. "Jacob, you should probably get ready to head to bed. You have to get up bright and early tomorrow."
"Yeah I think I'll go do that." Jacob answered while getting up from the couch. He did some stretches to get the aches and cracks out of his back
"Good night." Jacob answered heading for his room.
"Good night." His dad replied while still looking at the tv screen. A new match had started between a dude in what seemed to be a wrestling get up and another guy that looked like he was trying too hard to look like a nerd.
"Good night sweetie." His mom replied cheerfully. " Have a good night's rest."
Jacob stilled a little and looked back at this person who was supposed to be his mother. She was smiling at him.
It sickened Jacob to his stomach.
"Thanks mom." Jacob replied with a cheerful tone and a fake smile. He went to his room and closed the door then immediately darted to the bathroom and emptied his stomach in the toilet. He felt like shit having to pretend that he was these two adults' children. That he was the child that they had raised. The child that he had replaced. It hadn't fully hit him that he wasn't in his original world until now. Everything was suddenly so real. It was a dream and nightmare come true. It doesn't matter if he does or does not want to be here. This was his new reality now and there was nothing to be done except move on.
He wiped the corners of his mouth with some nearby toilet paper and rinsed his mouth with some mouthwash to get the sour aftertaste out of his mouth. He looked at himself in the mirror.
He didn't look exactly the same as his old body, but it was somewhat close. He had Brown hair and pale blue eyes. The shape of his face wasn't the exact same, but it was close. He's thankful that at least he didn't have an entire new look. Jacob isn't sure what he would have done if his looks had completely changed either. He freshened up and got ready for bed until he saw his duel disk. There were two decks there. One in his duel disk and one next to the duel disks.
"Let's check these decks out." Jacob went for the deck that was next to the duel disk. He started flipping through the cards and instantly realized something.
"These cards are wayyy too powerful for the gx era. I am pretty sure these cards would break the meta in its entirety." Jacob set the overpowered deck back down. These cards couldn't be seen by the public or anyone really. If the cards were seen then both Kaiba and Pegasus would be on his ass in a second. That was a situation nobody wanted to be in, especially Jacob. Meeting them would be cool. Facing the wrath of the two individuals thoughhh. Jacob's mind flashed to Yugi's grandpa being taken in the 1st episode by Kaiba and then Pegasus taking his grandpa's soul hostage. Yeah, Jacob wouldn't anger them. They were better people now, but best not to tempt fate or anything else that risked something like that happening to him.
Moving on, Jacob went for the second deck, the one in the duel disk. He took it out from the slot and fanned through. He took note of the cards and realized this one was much more fitting for the gx era. Like tooo gx era. Like a cliche crappy warrior deck and then a vanilla boss monster that is a dragon. This was something that five year old Jacob would have made.
" "Legendary Sword", "Warrior Dai Grepher ","Sogen ",..."Tri Horned Dragon?" Jacob's eyebrows kept rising more and more with each card he read. His face was completely gobsmacked by the time he saw the Tri Horned Dragon that was in the deck. "These are some vanilla warrior monsters with crappy warrior equip spells and to top it all off the boss monster isn't even a warrior monster it's a dragon. This deck is a literal disgrace. What am I supposed to do with this?"
Jacob actively turned his head to the sky and sighed. "Guess it can't be helped. I will have to create another deck." Jacob started looking around; he searched in the drawers of his desk where his computer was to see if some cards were in there, but found nothing. Similarly in his closet there was nothing to be found. Panic started creeping in since Jacob was afraid that he really was gonna have to keep the crappy warrior deck. He heaved a sigh of relief when he finally looked under the bed and found a box full of cards next to an empty water bottle that had been kicked under. He grabbed the box and put it on top of the bed and popped the lid off. Jacob was excited to see what cards were in the box even if it was possibly a bunch of vanilla beaters. The excitement then turned to confusion when he saw some of the cards.
"Aren't these cards from the 5ds era?" Although most of the cards in the box were duel monsters and gx era cards, there were some that definitely were not introduced until the 5ds era. Jacob shrugged to himself.
"Can't be helped rather have a deck a little too strong than too weak. Besides these cards aren't overpowered or broken so it should be fine." With his mind made up Jacob got to working creating a new deck.
( The next morning)
Jacob made sure to get up early in order to actually figure out how the duel disk worked. He didn't want to fail the exam just because he didn't know how to operate the machine. That would just be plain embarrassing. He had just figured out how it worked when there was a knock at the door.
"Jacob honey, are you ready?" His mom called from outside the door.
"Yeah just give me a second." Jacob put the duel disk in his backpack with his newly built deck slotted in already. He then placed the second overpowered deck in a duel box buried deep in the bag. He couldn't risk the deck falling out or accidentally being discovered by the wrong people. He then opened the door and found his mother standing on the other side.
"Come on, let's get to the car. Your father already has everything packed and ready."
"Okay"
(Later in the car)
Jacob was silently sitting in the back of the car, mind focused on the test. He was a little worried about the written test. He looked it up on his computer. The test was two hours and separated into two parts one hour for dueling and one hour for math and sciences. The dueling he thinks will be fine since Crowler was seen explaining what a field spell is during the anime. The math and science was a little more worrying since they had machines that could project images from playing cards on a small surface. Technology that was way beyond what Jacob could comprehend and that was beyond his old world's technology
"Are you worried at all Jacob?" his mom called from the front of the car. She was looking at him through the mirror while his father was driving.
"Yeah I am a little." he responded truthfully.
"Don't be." Jacob's father replied this time with his eyes still on the road." You have been studying and preparing for this exam for months. You will do fine."
After his sentence the car came to a stop.
"We're here." his father said while opening the car door.
Jacob got out of the car along with his mom. He saw the stadium in front of him and was completely shocked. The stadium was ginormous and was easily the tallest thing around. Even in his old life he hadn't seen any stadiums bigger than this by a large margin.
"What was Kaiba trying to achieve? Did he plan to fit the entire population of domino city into this one stadium?" Now that Jacob thought about it, that was probably exactly what Kaiba was trying to do.
"Jacob it looks like registration is over there, why don't you go ahead and sign in with them." His father stated while pointing at a line of tables that had teens waiting to sign up.
"Yeah I will go do that." Jacob answered while starting to walk towards the line of tables.
"Wait." his mother called. "Before you go, your father and I would just like to let you know how proud of you we are."
His father looked at his mom and nodded. "Your mother is right, no matter what happens we just want to let you know how proud of you we are, whether you get in or not. You have tried really hard these past couple months to study and prepare for this exam." His father started reaching into his pocket and pulled out a card.
"We know how much you like Joey wheeler and although a red eyes is too expensive we got you another monster that is seen commonly in his deck." His father handed him the card.
It was Gearfried the iron knight.
"It is a warrior monster so it should fit right in your deck." his mom chirped.
Jacob started tearing up and crying. To his parents it probably looked like tears of joy and thankfulness. In reality it was tears of guilt.
"Thank you so m-much." Jacob managed to stammer out. His parents looked at each.
"Come on, bring it in for a hug." his mom said. They all got a group hug and the guilt intensified.
(a couple hours later)
It was finally time for the practical exam. Jacob had finished the written test a while ago and it was complete crap.
What he thought would be hard was easy and what he thought would be easy was hard. It was complete garbage. The math and science section was simple algebra that middle schoolers should know. Easy enough. The duel section was complete garbage. Sure it had the simple, What does a field spell do?, but then it had the garbage question of, "If you fuse the monster amarill and one eyed shield dragon, what monster do you get?" Unfortunately, the second type of question was asked more than the first type was, but none of that mattered anymore. Jacob was about to have his first duel on a duel disk and he was practically vibrating in excitement on his seat in the stadium.
There were seats all around the stadium overlooking ten duel fields that had proctor's facing examinees. The stands were filled with either examinees waiting to duel or obelisk students who were already in. The amount of eyes watching unnerved Jacob a little even though he knew he would have to get over it real quick.
"Jacob Cross to duel field six. I repeat Jacob Cross to duel field six."
Jacob stood from his chair in excitement. That was him, come to find out his last name was Cross. It was pretty cool all things considered. He started walking down the stairs in nervousness. He wasn't afraid to lose since he knew his deck was strong enough even with the gearfried he had added. It might not fit, but he thought it was the least he could.
He entered his assigned field and stood across from the proctor. It was a young adult woman who seemed to already be tired of dueling. She looked to be ready to speak, but then coughed to clear her voice a little.
"As the challenger the first turn is given to you. Also my name is Hannah Gold, but it is Miss Gold to you." she said in a dead voice as if she read it from a script.
"Sounds good to me." Jacob replied while drawing five cards
Jacob: 4000 Miss Gold:4000
"I'll start." Jacob drew his first card. He looked at his hand and he realized he could completely mess with his opponent if he wanted to, but knew that if he did it would drag the duel on for a long time when the purpose for this was to be quick.
"What to do, what to do?" Jacob muttered aloud while staring at his cards. He was a little undecided on how to proceed. To be a jerk or play seriously.
"Hurry it up kid." Miss Gold spoke with annoyance in her tone. "There are about a hundred other kids who need to duel so don't keep them waiting and take your turn. I don't care if you are getting stage fright."
"This bitch." Jacob thought. "She honestly thinks I am getting stage fright and therefore too scared to play. Well if she wants me to go quickly I will go as slow as possible to piss her off."
"You know." Jacob answered while grabbing a card from his hand. "I was going to take this seriously and try to wrap this up quickly, but you pissed me off." Jacob gave a shit eating grin. "So I am gonna make this as slow and humiliating as possible for you. I normal summon reptilianne servant (100/100). I then activate the continuous spell Sad Story- Unwavering truth."
Was Jacob gonna rip off Misty from 5ds? A little yes. Does he care? No. Would he ever be able to do this again? Probably not. So was he gonna take advantage of the weak proctor deck and do it now? Absolutely.
"Unwavering truth has the effect that when we draw a spell card during the draw phase it is immediately put back in the deck then reshuffled."Jacob just had a manic look while explaining the effect. "So if you were hoping to take advantage of your spells, then too bad because they are not an option except for the ones currently in your hand. I place one card face down and call it a turn your move."
simply shook her head at Jacob. "Although you may not know it, that was a silly move. First off you left a 100 attack point monster in attack mo-"
"Would you stop yapping and get on with your turn? You were the one who said to make this quick." Jacob cut her off before she could make herself look stupid.
"Little brat." she answered with a sneer. The sneer only increased when she drew her card and returned it to her deck.
"Drew a spell huh. Tough shit isn't it."
"Language." she yelled clearly infuriated with Jacob's crap. He knew he would probably get in trouble later, but she was frankly just asking for him to be dick to her with the attitude she was having.
"I will teach you a lesson in respecting your elders. I summon marauding captain to the field." she said while slamming the aforementioned card on her duel disk.
Then nothing showed up. She grabbed the card then placed it back down again.
"What is wrong with my duel disk?" She asked confusedly to no one in particular.
"Oh you don't know." her head snapped up to Jacob whose head was upturned at her and had a huge grin. "As my elder I thought you would know the effect of my reptilianne servant." Jacob shrugged to himself. "Guess it can't be helped. So for your information while reptilianne servant is on the field monsters can't be normal summoned or set. While we are at it though I guess I will activate my trap Royal Decree."
looked shell shocked by the revelation of the monster's effect and that shock only increased when the trap was revealed. Her face was completely slack and deathly pale with her mouth making an O shape in shock.
"W-what?" she answered, her voice quivering a little. Jacob could only grin wider at her face and laugh. Although it might be a little cruel, he felt extreme joy at seeing her realize the situation she was in.
"I see you're catching on. Unwavering truth prevents spells from being drawn and used except the ones in your hand, royal decree prevents traps altogether, and servant prevents your monster from being summoned and doing anything. In conclusion, unless you have a spell in your hand that could remove one of these cards, the duel is over. I win. Or at least I will win in forty turns, that is when servant deals the final blow."
stood still in shock. She looked at her hand then at the field, then back to her hand.
"You are right, you win. There is nothing I can do."
"So are you gonna forfeit the match because if not we are gonna be here for a while?" Jacob asked curiously. Technically he hadn't reduced her life points to zero so he still hadn't won yet, even though his victory was guaranteed
gained a look of annoyance at that. "Sadly, my contract states I can't forfeit a match against an examinee. Therefore this will have to carry on for forty turns. So congratulations, your plan worked. This duel will go on for a long time. It might even break a school record for longest exam duel. I hope you're happy brat."
Jacob only felt joy at hearing that. As far as first duels go, Jacob felt his went really well even if it would be considered boring by others.
(12 turns later)
"Reptilianne Servant attack." Jacob commanded with his arms behind his head and looking to the sky. Although he couldn't see it attack he could feel the slight breeze his monster left when attacking which signaled the attack went through. He sighed after the attack. He hadn't really thought things through with this plan. Although it was funny at the time he quickly came to regret it because now and himself were just standing around for the duel to be over since neither of them could forfeit and end this quicker. Jacob got tired of looking at the sky and just turned back toward his opponent.
"I end my turn."
Jacob:4000 : 2800
only drew a card to signify she heard him.
"I end m-" stopped herself mid statement and narrowed her eyes at her cards. She was tapping her foot, she was up to something even though Jacob knew she couldn't do anything to win. If she did she would have done it ages ago.
"Is there a problem?" She looked at him, probably wondering whether or not to answer his question.
"My contract states I can't forfeit a match." She grabbed a card from her hand. "But it doesn't say I can't accidentally misplay and help my opponent."
"How could you-." She cut Jacob off
"I activate Axe of Despair equipping it to Reptilianne Servant." She smiled knowing that she was going to end the duel quicker.
Reptilianne Servant's projection promptly shattered after her declaration. once again gained a dumb founded look.
"What just happened?" she asked in bewilderment
"When Reptilianne Servant is targeted by a spell or trap it is automatically destroyed." Jacob stood there with a slight frown. "I'm not sure if I should be angry that you accidentally stumbled on its weakness, sad that my strategy didn't work, or happy that this duel won't be boring anymore."
She shrugged her shoulders at him. "Not my problem, but what is your problem is how much damage you're going to take now. Let's try this again, I normally summon Marauding Captain (1200/400) and with his effect I will special summon Dark Scorpion- Cliff the Trap Remover (1200/1000)." She pointed her finger at him. "Attack." Both monsters leaped at him and he could feel the slight shockwave of the attacks colliding.
Jacob -1600 - 2800
"Now Cliff's effect activates, when he deals damage I can choose to destroy one of your spell or trap cards." She made a motion with her fingers acting like she was considering which one to pick. She then pointed at Royal Decree and it promptly exploded.
"I place a card face down and end my turn."
Jacob drew a card and then promptly returned it to his deck.
"Drew a spell huh. Tough shit isn't it."
Jacob only glared at her. He was a bigger person and wouldn't rise to the bait even if it pissed him off that she was using his words against him. He then took a card from his hand.
"Alright I activate the spell Reptilianne Spawn, by banishing Reptilianne Servant this gives me two Reptilliane tokens (0/0) on my side of the field. Then, I tribute one in order to summon Reptilianne Medusa (2200/800). Moving forward I activate her effect which allows me to send a card from my hand to the graveyard in order to make one of your monsters have 0 attack and it can't change its battle position." Jacob pointed at Maruading Captain who promptly turned to stone. grimaced at the monster she was facing and the fact that her Captain now had 0 attack points.
"Now don't go thinking I am done yet, I now activate the effect of Reptilliane Vaskii in my hand. She can be special summoned if I tribute two monsters with 0 Attack points."
pointed her finger at him accusingly. "You don't have two monsters with 0 attack points!" She yelled at him.
"I never said it had to be my monsters." The Reptilianne token on the field glowed and evaporated while the marauding captain shattered. "Now give a warm welcome to the boss reptile lady herself Reptilianne Vaskii (2600/0). I now activate her effect which lets me once per turn destroy a face up monster you control. So say goodbye to your Cliff the Trap Remover."
She scowled at that, sending Cliff to the graveyard.
"Now will you finally be defeated on turn 13 let's find out, Medusa attack her directly." Medusa's snake hairs rose to the air and then their eyes shined gold signaling her attack.
-600
"Now here is the final attack, Vaskii finish her off." Vaskii lunged for her opponent
"No, she won't I activate Sakuretsu Armor, destroying your monster." Suddenly Vaskii was cut in half, stopping her attack.
Jacob could only groan at her trap. He knew it was probably something, but he was secretly hoping Vaskii would finish her off and end the duel.
"I set a card and end my turn."
"I draw." Miss. Gold said signaling the start of her turn. " I summon another marauding captain (1200/400) and this time I will have him joined by Exiled Force(1000/1000). Now the exiled men will activate their effect and will be tributed, but not without dragging your medusa with them." The exiled forces charged medusa and she got some of them before they dogpiled her and they were both destroyed.
"Now Marauding Captain attacks your life points directly." The captain lunged at Jacob and slashed at him with the sword.
Jacob- 400
Although he was cutting it close with lifepoints Jacob still wasn't worried. As long as his opponent didn't have some burn card he was going to be fine.
"I set a card and end my turn." his opponent said before signaling the start of Jacob's turn.
Jacob drew a monster. It was Gearfried. Jacob knew what he had to do.
"First I activate my set card Dust Tornado and destroy your set card." A tornade appeared blowing up the set card on 's side of the field. It was Kunai with Chain, not a big deal, but definitely something he was glad to avoid. It would have given her another turn to possibly turn things around on him.
"Now I summon Geafried the Iron Knight (1800/1600) and attack your Maurauding Captain for game." Gearfired dashed and cut through the Captain's sword and body.
-0000
The holograms shut down, turning themselves off due to the game ending. Jacob walked over to his opponent.
"Good game , you actually got close there at the end to winning." Jacob held out his hand to her. She took it, giving it a good shake.
"Yeah yeah. You were pretty good too, but don't let that get to your head. You still have lots to learn. Now get moving things are probably running behind with how long our duel took." she let go of his hand and gave a shooing motion for him to get lost.
Jacob walked away from the arena to the stairs feeling pretty good. He got into duel academy and won his first duel. He was positively over the moon right now all things considered.
So yeah Jacob will be using Reptilianne while at duel academy. I thought they were a fun little archtype that wouldn't be too powerful yet. Anyway some author notes at the end here
-Reptilianne servant doesn't prevent set monsters from being summoned, but I changed the effect to better fit this scene. It shouldn't cause any problems later on.
-Sad Story-unwavering truth is an anime only card used by Misty against Akiza in 5ds. So that is where that comes from.
-Also the second deck is left ambiguous as to what is in it simply because I haven't decided on a deck yet. So, don't be asking what the deck will be, I don't know either.
Those are the only card changes made by me in the duel which is technically a lot since only 3 cards were played. Speaking of that please let me know if I did anything wrong with the duel scene. It was my first time writing it so I am not sure if there are other things I should have done. Finally, reviews are appreciated and welcomed, if there are any major problems so far in the story that need addressed let me know.
