BRFs

Chapter 1

"Stupid Junior, stupid Goodbitch or whatever her name was." Yang Xiao Long slammed a strawberry sunrise down.

Today was supposed to be her initiation into Beacon so why was she at some bar in the middle of Vale cursing people out?

After her trip to 'The Club' looking for information on her mother, she ended up trashing the place. Somehow, Beacon had gotten word, she blamed Junior. The Deputy Headmistress, and combat instructor Professor Goodwitch contacted her personally telling her, that her placement in initiation had been revoked and that she would have to reenroll next year. Worst part her transcript wouldn't carry over, she'd have to take part in the practical exam to earn her spot for initiation.

The icing on the cake was, Ruby, her younger sister by two years was skipping ahead and was taking part in the initiation right now. Don't get her wrong, Yang was happy and proud of her sister, but to say it didn't sting would have been an outright lie.

Their dad had been up her ass about it ever since. Reminding her how she messed up and that he was disappointed. Yang had to get away from it, so she hopped on Bumblebee and came to Vale.
So here she was muttering curses under her breath and lamenting at her own situation. What pissed her off more was Junior's club was shady as hell, if anything she was doing a service to the community. Yang dreaded returning home and having to deal with her dad. How was she going to get through a whole year of that? She needed to think of something. Maybe she could get a job to pass the time.

The door to the bar had opened; Yang watched from the corner of her eye as a moppy blonde haired noodle of a guy walked in. He looked absolutely sullen as he took a seat at stool a few seats next to her and slammed his head on the table.

Usually, she would just pay it no mind but she was in a sour mood, and wasn't there a saying misery loves company.

"Rough day?" Yang asked.

The blonde guy raised his head and looked at Yang making sure that she was talking to him.

"Yea... I uh, was supposed to try out for initiation at Beacon but I was rejected." The blonde guy said.

"No shit? Me too!" Yang said.

"Wait? Really!?" The blonde guy asked surprised.

"Yea, I got in a fight with these assholes, and trashed a nightclub. It got back to the school and one of the professors rejected my enrollment, said I had to work on my issues" Yang said the last part in a mocking voice, audibly upset. "Why'd they reject you?" Yang asked. She watched the guy shuffle sitting up straight.

"I um... I forged my transcript to get in." The guy muttered in a low voice.

"You What!?" Yang shouted out.

"I never went to combat school, I'm from a very small village basically in the middle of nowhere. There was none close by and my dad refused to train me, I had to basically teach myself. I got a hand on some forgery and tried to pass it off. Didn't work obviously." The guy lamented.

"Why didn't you try for the practical exam?" Yang asked.

"That's a thing!?" The guy shouted.

"Of course, it's a thing! Jeez! Little training and you wanted to jump right into a Huntsman academy. You got a death wish or something?" Yang asked semi jokingly.

"I just always wanted to be a Huntsman, all my ancestors have been Huntsman and heroes." The guy said said looking straight at the ground.

"Well stranger, your story definitely beats mine. Why don't I get you a drink." Yang raised her arm. "Yo barkeep! Get my fellow blonde here a strawberry sunrise."

"Thanks." Jaune chuckled. "Uh, my mom always told me strangers are just friends you haven't met. I'm Jaune Arc." The guy introduced himself.

Yang laughed internally at the weird saying before she exclaimed, "Well I guess that makes us friends! Names Yang Xiao Long!" Yang exclaimed.

The barkeep brought the strawberry sunrise before Jaune and handed to him. Taking a sip Jaune made a pleasant sound clearly enjoying the drink.

"That's good!" Jaune said as he sipped some more.

"Hell, yea it is! It's my favorite drink." Yang said.

Jaune took another sip before taking a deep breath. "Ugh... I don't know what I'm gonna do. If I go back home, it's basically admitting defeat. I'll never hear the end of it from my parents."

Yang couldn't help but feel bad for Jaune, she was going through the same dilemma.

"Vale is so great too! I've been here almost a month. I got a nice apartment." Jaune added.

'Wait a minute.' Yang thought.

"You have an apartment? In Vale?" Yang asked in disbelief.

"Yea, a two bedroom." Jaune said nonchalantly taking another sip of his fruity drink.

"How the fuck did you manage that?" Yang asked even more in disbelief then before.

"I got a nice paying job and a friend of my family owns the building, they set me up with the apartment. I just don't know the point of staying."

Yang couldn't believe what she was hearing. This guy had a two-bed room apartment in downtown Vale, one of the most expensive areas to live in and he was going to leave! A light bulb went off in Yang's head, she had an idea. It was absolutely crazy but maybe it would help them both out.

"You want a roommate?" Yang candidly asked.

"Bwauhh!... What!?"

"You're not the only one who wants to avoid being giving never ending lectures by their parent. So, let's be roommates!" Yang said in response.

"But I'm a stranger!" Jaune exclaimed.

"Ah Bah Bap! According to your mother we're friends or are you calling your mother a liar." Jaune looked at her like she was crazy as she spoke, that made absolutely no sense at all.

"Look! You wanna go to Beacon right?" Yang asked.

"Absolutely." Jaune said.

"So do I. That means we have a year till the next practical exam. I graduated top of my class at Signal so if there is anyone who can get you in shape to at least earn placement for initiation, it's me! So I'm suggesting we become roommates; I'll get a job I could help you pay for the place, then on the off time I can train you as well as keep myself in shape for next year, and to top it all off, we get to avoid parental disappointment!" Yang suggested her genius plan.

To her relief Jaune actually looked like he was considering it.

"Well, what do you say?" Yang asked.

Jaune was questioning all of his life choices as he stood outside his apartment. He just wanted to get into Beacon, become a huntsman like his father, save people, maybe get a girlfriend along the way. Now he was letting a girl he just met yesterday move in with him in hopes of still making that dream a reality.

A box was shoved into his hands as Yang walked up to him saying, "Thanks for helping out, Jaune."

He ended up accepting Yang's crazy plan. He really had no other option. It was go along with this, have a better chance at getting into beacon legit, or go home. If Yang could help him, he would take that chance. She seemed nice; he kept telling himself to convince him this was a good idea.

"Dad, uncle Qrow, this is my good friend Jaune Arc." Yang introduced Jaune to her father and uncle. Her father walked up to him first. He was a tall friendly looking man.

"Names Taiyang Xiao Long. Nice to meet you Jaune." Yang's father introduced himself.

"I'm gonna head upstairs check the place out." Yang said as she walked inside the apartment and up the stairs.

Once she was out of sight, Taiyang had leaned towards Jaune and whispered, "Anything happens to my daughter and they'll never find your body." Jaune paled to the very serious sounding threat from Yang's father.

As Taiyang walked in with a box in hands; the other man, who Jaune assumed must uncle Qrow as Yang called him, walked towards him and said, "You'll be in itty bity pieces when I'm done with you." The man walked past Jaune as well leaving him frozen in place outside.

Jaune had let out a low-pitched squeak as he wondered what the hell he just got himself into.

A window opened up, specifically one of the windows of his apartment and Yang leaned out it.

"Damn Jaune, this place is swanky. Come on, get up here! There's plenty of boxes. I can see it now we're gonna be BFFs, NO! BRFs. Best Roommates forever." Yang said enjoying the play on words and laughed.

Author's Notes: This is a fun little dragonslayer story I've been working on. I plan to update this maybe once a week or maybe once every two weeks so I can put primary focus on team RWVBY. Some things I can say about this, is that Cinder nor Salem will be appearing at all but you will eventually see Emerald and Mercury in some capacity.
Hope you enjoy!
