Elena sat with Bonnie and Caroline outside a coffee shop in New Orleans. It had taken them just over three days to get there, mainly because they hadn't been in a big hurry to reach their destination. They took the time to take in the sights on their journey, plus they'd rested quite often. They had arrived just over a day ago.

Getting away from Mystic Falls had already been beneficial to Elena. There was no one around her looking for her to be someone she wasn't and she didn't see Stefan everywhere she went. Of course, she hadn't forgotten about him or what he did to her. She didn't think she ever would, but she was able to get moments without thinking about him or the war going on inside of her head.

Life was still far from ideal. Elena still got flashes and nightmares. The nightmares were a nightly occurrence. When she wasn't dreaming about being abducted from her home, she was dreaming about Stefan forcing himself on her through compulsion. She honestly wasn't sure which dream was worse.

"I love this city!" Caroline gushed, pulling Elena from her thoughts. "There's so much going on here all the time!"

Bonnie chuckled. "Yeah, it's a far cry from boring Mystic Falls, where there's nothing to really do, aside from a party hear and there and founder's events."

"I don't know that I'd call the supernatural craziness boring," Elena said.

"Yeah, it is kind of nice to get away from that," Bonnie said.

Elena snorted. "Yeah, spoken from three supernatural beings."

Caroline chuckled in response. "So, Elena, how long did you want to stay here? Not that I'm in a hurry to leave."

"I don't know. I don't even know why I wanted to come here. It just sort of popped into my head," Elena said.

"Do you think you've been here before?" Bonnie asked.

"I'm not sure. Maybe," Elena said. As if on cue, she had another flash as soon as she finished that sentence.

She raised her arms up towards her father, who picked her up immediately. They were on some sort of balcony, and they could see most of the city. It was dark.

Klaus pointed out towards the city. "Look, little love. You can see all of New Orleans from here."

"It's so pretty," she said.

"Yes, it is. This is our city," Klaus said.

"You're the king, right, Daddy."

"That's right, little love, and you're my princess," Klaus said before kissing her forehead.

Elena came out of the flash a bit dazed for a second, as she always did. "Yeah, I've been here before. I think I lived here."

"Another flash?" Caroline asked.

"Yeah. Would it kill anyone to mention my name in one of these memories?" Elena asked in exasperation. She really wanted to know what it was. She needed to know who she was.

"Klaus doesn't call you anything in these memories?" Bonnie asked.

"Sure, he does. He calls me 'princess' or 'little love'," Elena told her.

"Aw! That's so freaking adorable," Caroline gushed. She knew Klaus was a murderous hybrid, but the fact that he had such sweet nicknames for his little girl made him seem so human.

"Yeah, it's wonderful, except for people who would actually like to know who they are," Elena said a bit irritably.

"What will you do when you find out your birth name? Will you start going by that?" Bonnie asked. It would be weird to call her friend by any other name, but at the same time, she could understand it if Elena chose that route.

"I'm not sure. I don't know how to be anyone but Elena, but it's not who I am, and it feels wrong to use someone else's name," Elena told her.

"Well, we'll support whatever decision you make. We'll call you whatever you want to be called, but just so you know, we know you're not trying to replace the other Elena, even if you keep her name," Bonnie said.

"It's not just that. It feels like if I keep the name, I'm giving Katherine and Stefan what they wanted. One way or another, I can't let that happen. I don't know though. I don't know what I'm going to do, about anything. Maybe it's a good thing I haven't learned my name yet after all," Elena said.

"It's all going to get sorted out, Elena. It will take a while, but you'll get your life back," Caroline assured her.

"Yes, it will, because I won't let him win. I won't let him take anything else from me," Elena said strongly.

"Good for you," Bonnie said with a smile. She was so grateful that this hadn't destroyed her friend. It would've destroyed most people. That being said, she also knew it wasn't over. Things would probably get worse before they got better for Elena. She was still kind of in a state of shock, and the flashes probably helped with keeping her emotions at bay.

Elena soon got distracted. Something suddenly felt off. It didn't take long for her to figure it out. She felt several inhuman presences.

"Elena, are you okay?" Caroline asked.

"There are several vampires in the area," Elena said quietly. She'd been able to detect vampires for a couple of weeks now. She became sure of the ability when Caroline had come to see her at the lake house. She'd felt it in her.

"You can detect vampires from a distance? I can't do that without touching them?" Bonnie said in shock. How powerful a witch was Elena. She had several abilities that Bonnie had never seen, like the ability to give Damon an aneurism without even trying and blowing out all the windows in the boarding house. Bonnie could do aneurisms as well, but it took a lot of concentration.

"Yeah. I don't know if it's the witch in me or the werewolf, or both," she said.

"Let's forget that for a minute. There are other vampires around us? How many?" Caroline asked.

"At least four or five," Elena said as she surveyed the area. Her eyes landed on a group of men about twenty to thirty feet away. "They're over there."

Bonnie and Caroline followed Elena's eyes to a table all the way at the back. They then all watched as an African American man started walking over.

The man approached the girls and smiled courteously. "Hello, ladies. May I join you for a moment?"

"We're witches. Walk away," Bonnie said dangerously.

"I'm afraid it doesn't work that way," he said as he sat down. "I'm Marcel, and you're in my city."

Caroline snorted. "Your city? Okay."

"Look, I know you guys are new here. I make it a point to know every supernatural being in this city, and I make sure they know me. That's why I'm here. One of my guys spotted you and let me know. I just need to make sure everyone is going to behave themselves," Marcel said.

"Meaning what?" Elena asked.

"Meaning no displays of magic in public and no feeding on the locals," Marcel said. He looked at the blond for the last part.

Caroline glared at him. "I don't feed on people."

Marcel turned the witch next to him. "I also kind of want to know about you. You spotted us from across the way. Most witches couldn't do that. What's your name?"

"I couldn't tell you," Elena said honestly.

"Come on, I'm trying to be nice hear, but I need to know who you are. I heard you say you're a witch and a werewolf. I didn't even think that was possible. I normally don't allow werewolves in the Quarter for safety reasons, but since your friend is also a vampire, I think I might be able to trust, but I need to know more about you. Right now, I just want to know your name," Marcel said.

"So do I. If you figure it out before me, please let me know," Elena said.

"Alright, we're done with this," Bonnie said as she began to get up. She really wanted to make this pompous asshole regret even talking to him.

Caroline pulled her back down. "Bonnie, let's not make a scene in public."

Marcel was barely even paying attention to them. His attention was on the witch/werewolf. She intrigued him. He also kind of felt a connection to her that he couldn't explain. "You don't know your name."

" Nope. You see, a couple of psychotic vampires thought it would be a fun idea to screw with my mind until they completely reengineered it," Elena said.

"You were compelled? Witches and werewolves can't be compelled," Marcel said.

"I've only been a werewolf for a couple of months, and my magic was blocked when I was a child. It broke in a moment of pure rage. The compulsions broke when I shifted into a werewolf. There were so many of them that my mind is kind of shattered at the moment. Memories come back in waves, and most of them are just pieces of memories," Elena explained.

"Um, Elena, I'm not sure it's a good idea to give this person your life story," Caroline said.

"Elena, huh? I thought you didn't know your name," Marcel said, his eyes never leaving hers.

"I don't. Elena was the name of the girl that was murdered so that I could be forced into her life. It's the only name I remember, so I use it for now," Elena said.

"Elena, why are you giving this vampire your life story?" Bonnie asked.

"Because I'm pretty sure I've seen him before," Elena said. She didn't really have much to back that up. There were no flashes of him yet. He just looked familiar to her. He looked familiar, and she felt safe with him.

Marcel chuckled. "No, we've never met. I'd remember meeting you."

"I wish I could say the same. It's possible that we don't know each other. Like I said, my mind is kind of in shambles right now. A century worth of compulsions can do that to you. But you seem familiar to me. I can't place you yet, but something about you tells me I know you. Tell me something. Does the name Klaus mean anything to you?" Elena asked.

Marcel's eyes widened slightly and his body stiffened. He hadn't heard that name in a long time. He hadn't wanted to either. He felt like Klaus had abandoned him when he took off after Mikael attacked. Although, deep down, he knew he wasn't innocent in that situation either, he wouldn't admit that even to himself. "How do you know that name?

"One of the few things that I have remembered so far is that Klaus is my father," Elena said.

Marcel's limbs visibly shook, which was hard to believe because he felt like his body had gone numb. If he were standing right now, he might just crumble to the ground, or at least he would if he were human. He also felt like someone was squeezing his heart. If the things this girl had told him were true, she could only be one person. His sister. "S…Sadie?"
