Just a filler chapter to flesh out friendship dynamics! :)
While the grandparents of the little girl held her by their sides, Callie eyed the bright blue lollipop clutched in the girl's good arm, and the two signatures of the surgeons that adorned her cast on the other side.
"You're really good with kids," Callie remarked, with a wide smile, the image of that little girl burned in her mind.
"I am an pediatric surgeon, Dr. Torres." Arizona nervously said back, not yet used to compliments from the brunette surgeon.
"I know, it's just so much harder to not get along with someone so good with kids." Callie didn't know if she meant the statement as a joke or not, but she was surprised she even uttered the words. Another apology formed on her lips, but she still couldn't find the right words to say to Arizona.
"As fun as this was Dr. Torres, I'm being paged to be good with another kid." Arizona cut Callie off before she could say anything and went towards the door before Callie stopped her once again.
"It uh was fun, Arizona." She tried, stumbling on the words a bit. With a sigh, Arizona looked down at her pager before glancing back at Callie with a smile.
"Good work, Dr. Torres and hopefully now you'll start answering my pages." She teased, her mood lifted by Callie's efforts at a real conversation without hidden insults or disguised like.
One step forward, three steps back, Callie thought, but she finally did feel better about her interactions with the new blonde.
Considering Arizona was still in the OR with her latest case, she wasn't at their usual lunch table where Callie, Erica, Addison, and Mark currently resided.
"How was your burn victim, dream team?" Callie asked her girlfriend and best friend.
"Amazing as usual," Mark gloated while Erica rolled her eyes.
"How about you, Cal? I heard you were scut with Robbins, must've been a nightmare." Erica laughed before picking up a heavily loaded egg sandwich. Addison and Mark steeled themselves for the inevitable Callie and Erica bashing of Arizona, planning to tune them out.
"Actually, it was really fun." The two surgeon friends looked up in shock as Callie continued, "We played with this little girl, and there weren't any major problems so we could hang out a little. She was adorable. She had this cute little tiger stuffed animal she wouldn't let go of until Arizona bribed her with about 50 lollipops from her scrub pocket. Then, we helped her pick her cast colors and signed them. Before I knew it, she was walking out with her grandparents, sucking on another lollipop."
"Okay, sound more excited," Erica eyed her, causing Callie to let out a soft sigh.
"Sorry, I haven't worked with kids in a while, so it was nice, reminds me why we do it." Callie lightly defended herself while she pushed the food on her plate around with her fork. Addison lightly kicked at her foot to get the orthosurgeon to look back up instead of confusingly observing her food.
"That's the Robbins charm." Mark laughed while Addison elbowed him in the ribs, whispering at him to stop stirring the pot.
"Well I'm glad you were charmed, Callie," Erica remarked, getting up with her tray.
"C'mon babe, you know it wasn't like that." Callie huffed, her fork forgotten as it fell onto her plate while the banging sound echoed throughout the cafeteria.
"Yeah," Erica muttered, turning back around before sending one last glance back to Callie, uttering, "I asked you to support me for once, yet you wanna be buddy-buddy with her."
"Damn," Mark whispered to Addison, who ignored him to instead focus on Callie.
"You are not a bad person for being nice to the new surgeon." Addison tried to comfort, but Callie simply waved a hand at her to let it go.
Callie threw her face in her hands, "What the fuck."
"Good luck making that one up to her Cal," Mark remarked, which only made the brunette roll her eyes even more, but before he could add on, he saw Arizona wheeling up behind Callie, which right now would either make or break Callie's day. He debated motioning a slit neck to the blonde, but her wheelies were incredibly fast right now.
"Hey there beautiful faces. I finished up a little early, you guys aren't leaving anytime soon right?" Arizona asked.
"Sorry blondie. I gotta go, but keep our girls company will you?" He finished, sending each of them a wave before running away from the argument that could potentially break out.
"It's what I do best," Arizona teased, sending a wink to Addison who sent her a little kiss back.
"So, you finished early, how did it go?" Addison followed with.
"I'm having the best day, it was great. The treatment seems to be working well, so I don't even think he needs a transplant anymore. I mean his lungs looked so much better than last time." Arizona beamed, her hands twitching in excitement as well.
"That's amazing! When you get a chance, show me his chart, will you?" Addison asked, considering the "closeness" in their specialties, the two often updated each other on patients or asked for advice about treatment plans.
"Of course," Arizona answered before turning her attention to the quiet brunette beside her. Sending her an odd look, she was confused about the switch in the surgeon already, so she spoke up. "I also finally got to work with callie here," Arizona tried, bumping their shoulders slightly which luckily seemed to bring the brunette out of her rut.
"Don't worry, I gave them a full summary," Callie reported back with a light smile.
"All good things I hope," Arizona responded, sending Addison a wondering look, but her friend nodded and smiled.
"Too good I made Erica stomp away," Callie added, explaining her suddenly sour mood.
"Oh shit! I'm so sorry." Arizona turned back to her, running a hand up and down her arm out of instinct.
"Eh, don't be. I personally love it when she storms away," Addison teased.
"Not you too," Callie warned while Addison raised her hands in surrender.
"So changing the subject, Mark isn't telling anyone but Derek walked in on him with one of the neuro scrub nurses, and he now has to do whatever Derek says for a day." Arizona burst out to fill the silence, hoping Mark would understand her telling his secret.
"Get out!" Callie gawked.
"Derek loves his crew. Mark is fucked." Addison added in complete shock.
"He said sometimes he likes the thrill," Arizona shrugged her shoulders.
"I can't believe I ever slept with him," Addison sighed.
"Me too," Callie said in agreement.
"Me three, ugh I just can't" Arizona added, trying to make her voice even and face as neutral as possible, but the sight of Addison's face turning blue and Callie's wide open anaconda mouth, she fell into a fit of giggles.
"Stop it, Arizona. I think I just died." Addison tried to slap her from across the table, and when the blonde tried to lean away, Callie gripped her arms by her sides, pushing the blonde closer to Addison's reach.
"Callie no please don't let her hit me," Arizona wriggled against the strong arms of the ortho surgeon, but the brunette refused to relent her grip.
"Ah, Addie," Arizona whined as she could only accept the punches to her shoulder.
"You're sick." Addison finished.
"I'm sick? You both slept with him, and you both believed me way too fast." Arizona retaliated, but when she saw Addison lean up again to her another hit in, she dove closer to Callie again in a fit of laughter, and the brunette couldn't help but move towards her as well, unable to suppress her giggles.
"He's weirdly convincing." Addison shrugged in her defense while Arizona physically gagged at the thought, making Callie laugh once again.
"He kinda is," Callie got out between laughs.
"Too many people here have slept with Mark Sloan." Arizona asserted but realized her mistake quickly.
"Too many people here have slept with Arizona Robbins." Addison quipped back.
"It's different," she tried to defend.
"Uh huh," Callie said, giving the blonde a side-eyed look.
"If anything, you might be worse. You're new meat here and already way too known around the market." Addison continued teasing the blonde to see her squirm.
"First of all, I haven't slept with either two of you, so ha. Second of all, I at least stay until the morning…usually because we're just falling asleep but point made." Arizona finished her defense, batting her eyelashes every now and then.
"We can fix that first one pretty," Addie responded with a wink while Arizona leaned forward, playing along, and Callie's laugh turned awkward and somewhat choked.
"Then I'll take being worse than Mark. You're worth it. Well worse in one sense, better in another." The blonde played back, a smile threatening to show on her face while Addison laughed back.
"I wonder who can go longer without picking someone up?" Addison questioned and when Arizona went to answer, me obviously, Callie cut her off to pick Mark without a moment's hesitation.
"Hey, I so could beat Mark. I have control of myself. I make the conscious decision to let go." Arizona shot out, her cheeks turning a darker shade of pink.
"You just flirted with Addison." Callie deadpanned.
"Because it's Addison. You can't act like you wouldn't." Arizona gawked and pointed at the beauty that sat in front of them.
"Ooo, we've never played this game before." Addison clapped her hands in excitement.
"What game?" Callie questioned, sending a confused look to her friend.
"Who would you do," Addison said like it was obvious.
"and we will not be starting." Callie sent back, raising her eyebrows higher than Arizona thought was possible.
"Callieeee, let us have fun." The red-head whined.
"have all the fun you want, but I have a girlfriend so that is the only person I will be doing for now and forever," Callie said, straightening her posture as if it somehow proved her commitment to Erica.
"Bleh, whatever. Us singles will play with Mark later, when we stay in and don't pick anyone up." Addison beamed at Arizona, who puffed up her shoulders to prove herself.
"Of course. There's nothing I would rather do." Arizona answered her.
"Perfect because I already texted him his place at 8 pm."
"You're gonna make him lose this competition with that text." Callie burst out with a laugh.
"Stop oh my god! I'm adding that you're both coming." Addie rushed out, her hands flinging in her pockets to find her phone again.
"I would say joining…or arriving as well." Arizona made a subtle correction just in case with a laugh.
"Real mature," Addie hit back, as Callie wiped a subtle tear that left her eye from laughing.
"you know what," Addison leaned up to hit Callie too, and before the brunette could lean away, Arizona pushed her closer to Addison's slap.
"enemy," Callie muttered at her mid-laugh.
"literally," Arizona deadpanned.
"shut up," Callie shot back.
Arizona arrived at Mark's first, still buzzing from her first good day with Callie.
"Hey, Blondie" Mark sweetly started, "would you stop drooling?" he added, eyes wide with Arizona's incredibly long and detailed story of her day.
"Wow, never telling you about my day again." Arizona shot back.
"If there's no hot hook-up involved, then yes I would appreciate it if you refrained from the updates." He teased before avoiding the water bottle Arizona tried to pelt at him.
"Evil," he narrowed his eyes at her, causing her to send a dimpled smile back while she reached for one of the cookies on the counter.
"Aw, but so cute. Now I get why people adopt cats." He joked.
"When Addison?" She asked, trying to get the words out of her stuffed, cookie-filled mouth.
"Now Addison," he replied, looking up from his phone and heading towards the door.
While the three sat and split a bottle of wine, Callie and Erica finally arrived, swinging open the door and leading off with "We are not playing who would you do."
"buzzkills. it's always the couple that ruins the fun." Mark commented.
"fine um truth or dare…no we just played that." Addison tried to think.
"never have I ever?" Arizona offered, which caught everyone's attention too quickly.
"I love the way you think blondie. I love it" Mark was enthusiastic, shaking the blonde's shoulders.
"Thanks, Mark," she rolled her eyes.
The game started tame as Erica led off with Never have I ever dyed my hair, and nobody in the room drank besides Addison who went next.
"Never have I ever stolen anything," which prompted Erica, Mark, and Arizona to take a drink.
"Okay, rebels what did you steal?" Addison questioned with an intriguing smile.
"that's not part of the prompt." Arizona teased, and went next—"Never have I ever sent a flirty text to the wrong person."
"You're killing me," Mark uttered as he took another drink, and Addison and Callie tried hiding their faces while they took sips of theirs as well.
"Never have I ever gotten a drunk tattoo," he smirked.
"I told you that in confidence!" Arizona shouted.
"Oh my god, I have to see it. You cannot hide this from me." Addison burst out, reaching for the blonde who tried wriggling away.
"Fine, fine I have a couple small tattoos." She relented but refused to show them to the group.
"A couple!" Callie joined in.
"whip them out blondie." Mark joked, trying to jab at her again.
"no, no people can only see them if they find them and none of you will be finding them" she huffed getting a few ooos from her friends.
As Callie started next, Arizona turned to Mark and promised to get him back.
"Try me," he laughed while taking a sip as Callie let out never have I ever gone skinny dipping.
"wasted potential Torres," he added, slyly.
"let's not talk about my girlfriend" Erica shot back, and Arizona let out a little giggle at Mark's expense, but it seemed to anger Erica even more.
"so possessive all the time," he hit back, trying to stir the pot while Arizona physically put her hand in front of her mouth to muffle her laugh, and Addison pretended she wasn't following suit.
"never have I ever been in handcuffs" Erica threw out to change the subject while her drink seemed to finally hit.
"why am I not surprised," she uttered looking at everyone taking a sip.
"Mark take that sip back, I do not need to imagine that." Addison cried out.
"Imagine it all you like Addison, my place at 8 pm is always open." He teased back.
"I'm mortified, and just for that never have I ever looked off of Derek's tests during med school"
"cheap shot, Addie." He glared at her while reaching for his drink.
Arizona went next, adding "Never have I ever slept with the entirety of neuro scrub nurses."
"Now I'm just being targeted." he huffed, taking another solo swig.
"you started it," Arizona shot back
"And I can finish it: never have I ever slept with the entirety of ortho scrub nurses at your old hospital and this one." He gave a cocky smile while Arizona started to yell, "Shut the hell up!" Her face turned red faster than he thought was even possible while Addison looked from a red Arizona to an uncomfortable Callie Torres.
"Okay calming it down, never have I ever stood someone up," Callie threw out, trying to not think about Arizona's type being females in ortho.
"wow, I'm surprised no sip robbins" Erica commented in a huff, glaring at both Mark and Arizona for their behavior.
"no not my thing," Arizona said awkwardly.
"oh right relationships aren't your thing" Hahn added.
"no, she just doesn't leave the people she loves," Mark shot back, way too tired of his friend's girlfriend's constant antics and rude remarks. Callie awkwardly tried to clear her throat, and Addie quickly added, "Never have I ever had a threesome" to which Mark once again was the only one to drink.
trying to let it go, Arizona said, "Never have I ever hooked up with several people in this room"
well, "never have I ever hooked up with a Shepherd" Mark let out with a secret smirk as not only Addison lifted her drink to her lips but Arizona as well.
"holy shit, mcdreamy what?!" Callie spit out, while Addison told Arizona to stop messing with them.
"There's other Shepherds…" Mark hinted at with a laugh.
"oh god, which one they were my sisters," Addie screamed in desperation for an answer.
"just one or two." Arizona joked, shimming her shoulder at her distraught friend.
"TWO ARIZONA I SWEAR!" she yelled out, in between frantic breaths.
"Okay okay, I'm kidding just one of them at Hopkins." Arizona held her hands up in mock surrender/
"Little Amelia." Mark explained, "When she first told me I was on the floor."
"of course you were. Honestly, I'm friends with the sloppiest people on Earth." Addison rationalized while Arizona shrugged and muttered a quick worth it.
"Okay, never have I ever been caught in action," Callie countered.
"too many times to count," Mark whispered under his breath, causing every to let out a laugh.
"never have I ever smoked weed." Erica threw out, hiding her shock as everyone but Callie and her drank.
"Are you being for real?" she followed with.
"Are you…never, not once?" Addison probed.
"Torres girl I'm begging you to take a drink." Mark pleaded, throwing his hands in the air.
"I can't I haven't" and when his eyes narrowed she held her hands up, "Seriously never. I've seen the lung scans, no thank you."
"Jesus tell that to Arizona who smokes like a chimney." Mark let out, exposing another one of Arizona's secrets.
"I do not. Only when I'm stressed." she tried to defend herself, caught off guard by this seemingly public execution of her character.
"so you're telling me one day I'm gonna be your surgeon," Hahn said, finally giddy.
"not a chance in hell" the other blonde shot back while the game came to a subtle end. A few of them yawned, while others felt their heads begin to fall over.
