At New Yoke City Silver screamed and fell onto the dustbin, groaning.
"Ugh, never thought I'd be glad to be back in New Yoke." he said and got up holding his head,
Then he peeled out up a building and spun at the top. Yoke HQ with a blue and a green portal appear up ahead.
"Whoa." he said to see Boscage Maze through the Green Portal, purple rocks floating in the air around Boscage Maze. Canopy platforms and buildings broke and fell down.
Then he saw a stormy No Place through the Blue Portal, purple rocks floating in the air around the city.
At New Yoke City.
"Everything is collapsing. This is terrible." Silver said.
"Is it?" Nine asked and a projector of him appeared. "That seems odd coming from you. As far as I can tell, you only care about your own home."
"Nine, we were supposed to fix this together. Are you doing this?"
"No. This disruption was inevitable once the Chaos Council opened these portals. I'm just taking what I need to keep my world safe. And now I just need the finishing touch."
"Then you're going to have to catch me." Silver said, flew down the building and along the road, dodging vehicles in the opposite direction.
"Don't you realize the power I have in my fingertips? You can't run away from me."
A loud whirring sound was heard and Silver stopped in the middle of the road. The world rotated 90 degrees, sliding him to one side and causing him to crash land on the wall.
"Oh, no. What's happening? Agh!" Denizen yelled, hung on to a lamp post and Nine gasped while generating power, then kept his focus. "Agh!" he said, lost his grip and fell, but Silver jumped across to save him.
"You good?" Silver asked.
"I know you're fast enough to save them all. That's the hero you are." Nine said and Silver ran along the building and caught another Denizen.
He jumped over the gaps, catching another Denizen, and panting in exhaustion. Suddenly, the world rumbled and rotated again.
"Oh, not again." Silver said and slid down.
The world rotated once again and he dodged falling obstacles and caught another falling Denizen. He noticed Denizen 1998 hanging onto another lamppost.
"Hang on. I'm coming." he said and went for it, dodging more obstacles.
"You can't do this forever, Sonic. You're all alone now. Help me, and all of this stops." Nine said.
"No, that's not true. I can save-" Silver started but was hit by an obstacle and slipped up while Denizen 1998 lost grip and fell down. "No!"
Then Prim caught Denizen 1998 and picked him up in-front of Silver. Birdie and Thorn picked him up while the rest of the Denizens were picked up by Rusty's extended arms. Inside the Kraken, Black pushed the levers forward as two Denizens lost their grip on the pole. Mangey and Gnarly caught and saved them and took them on board the Kraken.
"What was that about me being all alone?" Silver asked annoyed.
"You'll never..." Nine said as his projector faded out.
The world tilted back to its normal axis, with metal objects crashing against the ground.
At the Kraken's deck.
"Who was that? He looks like Mangey." Hangry said and Denizen 1998 nudged him; they turn and look at each other.
Froggy and Froggy point at croak at each other, while Mangey growled.
"The fox has betrayed us." Rusty said.
"It's... kind of a long story." Silver said.
At The Grim Nine stopped charging and grunted frustratedly.
"The energy is still unstable." he said on his Regulator. "Sonic's outside the Council's HQ perimeter. Go get him."
In the Void three Grim Birdies caw and swoop toward the red gateway.
Back at New Yoke City Renegade and Rebel glide down to the Kraken and met up with Silver.
"Silver. Should have known you'd be here. Nine finally showed his true colors. I tried to warn you." Renegade said. "We both knew he was changing since this war started."
"She's the last one. Move towards the Yoke!" Rebel said and Prim ran past the doorway, which closed behind her.
"Weird. It sounded like you just said, "Move towards the Yoke."!" Silver said chuckling.
"She did. It's the safest place to keep us away from those giant-" Renegade said and pointed to the sky being torn purple in the background, indicating the Void. "tears that are growing by the second."
"Yeah. I know, that's a problem, but it's the Yoke," Silver said and pointed to the Yoke HQ and the flickering Green and Blue Portals. "hideous eyesore, monument to tyranny, home of the Chaos Council. That can't be safe!" he said and Rebel walked over and faced him.
"Look around, Silver. Nowhere is safe. Where else would you have us go?"
Sonic had an idea, but heard a familiar mechanical caw.
"Oh, no." he said dreading it.
The Grim Birdies flew through the tear in the sky and Nine's hologram appeared.
"I'm tired of waiting for you to accept your future, Sonic! Bring him to me alive." Nine said.
"Are those..." Rebel started.
"Angry metal death birds? Yep. Worst petting zoo attraction ever. These birds are after me. I need to move." Silver said. "I'll see you back at the Yoke in a jiffy." he said to her, spun off the Kraken and along the edge of a building.
He jumped and spun onto the road, with the birds following him as the Kraken hovered towards Yoke HQ's deck. It landed and opened the door, letting all the Denizens out while the Chaos Council view the action on their monitor.
"Fools. As if we'd ever offer shelter to the common rabble." Eggman said.
"We barely have enough energy and reserves to save ourselves." Done-It said and Babble spoke gibberish.
Meanwhile Silver was peeling out on the road.
"Here, birdie, birdie, birdie." he said smiling, looked up at the sky but didn't see any Grim Birdies and exhaled.
One Grim Birdie flew in from across another road and hit Silver, pummeling him into the wall. It tried to pin him down with its foot, but he escaped in time and ran again. It chased him again, knocking over a pole. He jumped over a car in a cross-junction.
"Woah!" he said peeling out again, two Grim Birdies chase him and fire bullets.
Silver weaved to dodge them and turned right along the road. He took the next turn on the right, leaving the Grim Birdies by. Along the alleyway, he looked behind and smiled, but yelped and hit the wall, knocking him out. One Grim Birdie blocked the alley behind him, the other one blocked the other side. They threaten him with a mechanical squawk and open their bullet guns. Silver ran close to one of them and taunted at it. He did the same to the other and returned to the middle; the Grim Birdies fire lasers at him, but at the last moment, he jumped, causing the birds to hit each other.
"Works every time." he said smirking.
At the top of the jump, the Alpha Grim Birdie swooped and grabbed him with its claws, causing him to yell. It flipped and threw him down head-first in the middle of the road, finished off by the other two swooping Grim Birdies and perked up, exhausted.
"I probably shouldn't have made them angry."
With the Grim Birdies after him once again, he turned around and ran. The Alpha watched him run along the road. The two regulars open fire, firing bullets at him. They scan him as they all make a left turn. He broke to a halt and the robots swoop up to avoid the buildings before coming back down and landing on the road facing him. He jump-scared to a Alpha Grim Birdie landing behind him but turned to it as they advance closer to him. The robots open fire and he dodged and Spin Attacked the two regular robots, causing them to collide into separate buildings. Nine's projector appeared while Silver ran.
"You can run as fast as you want. It doesn't matter. I know where you're going, Grim Birdie Alpha, head for the Yoke." Nine said and the Alpha Grim Birdie flew away.
"I won't let you hurt anyone else." Silver said and headed towards the Yoke, going after the Alpha then peeled up the wall. "Agh!" he said grunting and the Alpha looked back at him.
Then he spin attacked the robot on its belly, they both crash on the deck. Silver held his arm and panted in exhaustion as the hologram of Nine appeared.
"Had enough?" Silver asked and the other robots surround him.
"Poor Silver. So brave. So powerless. Bring him to me!" Nine said as the Grim Birdies walked closer and threaten Silver with their lasers.
"Hey, bird brains. Get off my lawn!" Done-It said and loaded up his cane weapon.
"Huh?" Silver said as Babble, Eggman and Deep appear in their mech suits.
Done-It started firing tennis balls at the birds and Silver crouched as they all receive a hit. Babble babbled as the Chaos Council minus Done-It initiate a fight with the Grim Birdies. Then he grabbed an approaching Grim Birdie with his arm and slammed it to the ground. Another Grim Birdie tried to steal the sword off Deep with its beak. He hit it with the burning chainsaw, retrieving his sword, and kicked the robot to the ground. Done-It appeared next to Silver, jump-scaring him.
"This is where you thank us, you miserable rodent." Done-It said and started firing again.
"You're helping me?" Silver said.
"Helping?! More like "Using"!" Deep said holding up Silver and threatening with his sword. "We need your energy." he said and let him go.
"For what?!"
"We'll talk later. Plus, if we don't stop this crazy fox," Deep said as a building was being shattered into purple crystals. "New Yoke City and us won't be around for much longer."
Babble grabbed an approaching Grim Birdie, and threw it across the deck. The Alpha pummeled Eggman with its claws and knocked him to the ground but he fired a bullet from its chest to force the bird up in the air, crashing into the window beside Don't, sliding down.
"Huh. Cool." Don't said.
Then Nine's hologram returned and Babble babbled in protest.
"You're only drawing things out. There's nothing you can do to stop me." Nine said and the Grim Birdies caw.
"Oh, really?" Eggman asked.
"I can't believe I'm saying this, but Eggmen, let's go bash some birds." Silver said and Eggman pushed him aside.
"Behind me, simpleton. I'm the leader here!"
"Au contraire, Mr. Doctor. I clearly lead this multitude." Deep said.
"All right, let's speed this up, Eggmen. We have some belligerent bird bots to bash." Silver said annoyed and the Chaos Council advance forward and started battling.
Deep tossed shurikens at a Grim Birdie, which dodged, cawed and flew towards him.
"Hold still, you confounded cockatoo!" Deep said annoyed.
Then Silver jumped onto another Grim Birdie and held it on its bill. Deep threw more shurikens which exploded the robot while Silver jumped off causing it to crash to the ground and powers down.
"Nice shot!" Silver said.
"Indeed, it was! And now for another." Deep said.
"We're on the same side right now. Remember?" Silver said panicking, with Deep's sword being pointed close to his nose.
"Old habits." Deep said, retracted his sword and flew off.
Eggman grabbed another one and tossed it down towards Silver, who spin attacked it back towards him. He punched the robot up in the air. Babble babbled and punched the robot back down. It hit the ground, breaking its wings as Babble pinned it to the ground and focused on the Alpha Grim Birdie, staring at Done-It.
"Age before baby." Done-It said while loading his weapon.
The Alpha delivered a mechanical squawk frightening him off his seat. It jumped onto Babble and dropped him. He screamed as Silver spin attacked the robot and knocked it off. Babble, Done-It and Eggman shot at it, along with Deep and the Alpha robot fell.
"That one was mine! I saw my shot hit it first!" Done-It said.
"Oh, please! With your eyes, you couldn't hit the ground if it weren't for gravity." Eggman said.
The Alpha Grim Birdie got back up and retreated back towards the void. Nine groaned in frustration as his hologram appeared and started flickering.
"No. Not yet! Not again!" Nine said worried and the hologram disappeared.
"Come back, coward. We are not done." Eggman said.
"It looked to me like he didn't want to go. I think his powers are on the fritz." Silver said.
"How? If he's managed to complete the Prism, he should have nearly unlimited power." Deep said.
"He still needs something. Me."
At The Grim the dome fluctuated; purple cracks appear in the sky while Nine was charging in frustration.
"No. Not again!" Nine said configuring the Paradox Prism as the dome kept fluctuating.
Then he rose up above the tower and looked at the fluctuating dome.
At Yoke HQ.
"This is preposterous! Just having these things in our home is an affront-" Deep said angrily and grabbed Eggman. "to everything we hold dear."
"You know what?! You keep talking, Doc, and my fist will be affront to your face." Renegade said and Babble babbled angrily and pointed at him but Silver broke up the argument.
"Enough! Stop." Silver said.
"They started it."
"They started all of this." Rusty said.
"And we'll gladly finish it! You ungrateful-!" Deep started but was cut off.
"Oh, for the love of," Done-It said, slapped Deep and held his ear. "keep a sock in it, Deep, and let the hedgehog speak."
"I made a deal with the Chaos Council." Silver said and the Denizens gasped.
"You made a deal with these egg-omaniacs?!" Black said.
"Nine is using the Paradox Prism to siphon energy into the Grim." he said and Mangey crawled away through the doors. "He's created this protective dome to keep his world safe, which has accelerated the decay of the Shatterverse started by your portals." he said and Eggman smiled awkwardly. "We're running out of time. We can't escape him anymore, not while he's got the prism. But if we use my energy and the Council's Shatter Drive, we can protect ourselves without doing any damage to the Shatterverse. At least until we can figure out how to stop him. So the deal is, I charge their drive, and they give us sanctuary inside the dome."
"I want to hear it from them." Rebel said with her arms crossed thinking about all the times they worked together.
"The hedgehog speaks the truth. Once the dome is up, we'll let most..." Eggman said and Silver clears his throat at him. "All who wish will be allowed inside." he said and a panel to the Power Core Room faded to transparent.
The Chaos Council looked through it and saw Mangey pressing buttons on the energy extractor.
"Hey. What's he doing with the Energy Extractor? Stop him! Heel, you beast!" Eggman said.
"Oh, hey, look. Efficiency just increased by 38%." Don't said and Mangey smiled, while Eggman looked on in fury.
"So they're going to drain your energy?" Renegade said and Rebel tapped him.
"There has to be another way!" Rebel said and Silver dropped his ears miserably.
"I don't think there is. You've all seen it. The worlds are falling apart. This dome is our only hope." Silver said.
"How much energy are we talking about?" Prim asked.
"Heh, nothing the hedgehog can't spare, I assure you." Done-It said.
"Silver. You realize that you cannot trust the Council." Rusty said/
"I know, but I don't have a choice! Look, I know you don't trust each other, and you probably shouldn't. But right now, we all have bigger problems." Silver said.
"Told you we couldn't trust Tails anymore." Renegade said with his heart breaking while Rebel walked over.
"As much as it pains me to admit it, Silver's right." Rebel said and touched Silver's shoulder. "For once, everyone in New Yoke is on the same side. We're all just trying to survive. Once this is over, we'll go back to freeing the city."
'Unless the energy works with me to.' she thought while Renegade looked at her.
"And protecting our forests!" Thorn said.
"And saving our seas!" Black said.
"And we'll go back to crushing you under our heel!" Eggman said and realized what he said. "Uh, but only after we've saved New Yoke."
At The Grim Nine charged the Paradox Prism as bolts of lightning spiral around the energy beam above it and the dome fluctuated.
Back in New Yoke City Nine's hologram appeared up high with storm clouds rising behind him.
At Yoke HQ: Power core room Silver was in the hamster ball alone, looking at the new gang.
"See you on the other side." Silver said and peeled out inside the ball.
At New Yoke City Nine clenched his face as a lightning bolt was deposited from the storm cloud and hit the Yoke, with cyan sparks flying out causing The Yoke rumble.
"Structural integrity of the Yoke is at 67%. Guy's got game." Don't said.
"Another blast like that and this whole building will collapse on top of us!" Eggman said and Babble babbled in panic.
Rebel and Prim nodded at each other, Chaos Controlled or flew outside the building and looked up at Nine's projection.
"You're only delaying the inevitable! Nothing will stop me from getting Sonic." Nine echoed as two more Grim Birdies flew down.
"We need that shield up. Now!" they said on their Regulator and Silver kept running; the sphere was surrounded by electricity.
"Faster! Faster!" Done-It said and Silver groaned as he kept running with all his might.
The meter started rising and Nine closed his eyes and looked down at the Yoke. Two Grim Birdie kept diving, while Rebel and Prim watched them. Inside, the ball flashed, with the meter rising close to full power. In the Shatterdrive, another ball flashed and grew. More Birdie robots dove down as Rebel and Prim flew upwards. Around the Yoke, the walls of the shield started to rise, passing through them. Nine delivered more lightning bolts to attack the Yoke, but they hit the completed shield instead. The Grim Birdies bumped into the shield and exploded, causing Rebel and Prim to flinch and brace themselves. Nine growled frustratedly and fired more bolts at the shield, to no avail. Inside, the Council and the rest of Silver's gang watched.
"So, it worked?" Renegade asked.
"Of course it worked, you insipid fool!" Eggman said provoked.
"Oh, that's it. Time to crack some eggs!"
Then Mangey helped a depleted Silver past the doorway as his friends gather around him and Gnarly also went over to help him.
"Are you able to function?" Rusty asked.
"Who, me? Sure. Never... better." Silver said exhausted.
Nine kept yelling frustratedly as his lightning bolts feil to penetrate the shield and his hologram disappeared.
Renegade stood there thinking about what would happen next.
'She wouldn't do it, would she?' he thought while Rebel played with her Emerald.
At The Grim.
"Well played, Silver. You might be safe for now... but not everybody is." Nine said.
At No Place it was stormy and Batten, Catfish and Sails held on to a sunken Angel's Voyage.
