Prologue

A/N So, I am currently re-reading S1 just so I know what's going on, and I want to apologise to anyone reading this, that I wrote Derek wrong. I'm also re-watching Grey's and I wrote him all awkward and he's not and I'm mad about it. So, I will try to make this season much better.
In 2019, a deadly virus broke out that killed 99.9% of the population of the world. Derek Shepherd had been sitting at his desk, in his office, a very successful CEO of a very boring company that he hated. He was moping about his wife cheating on him when he sporadically decided to quit he found that the virus had taken over.
In 2020, the same Derek Shepherd drove a beat-up old RV through 48 states just to find another living person. He failed. But he did leave a spray-painted message reading 'ALIVE IN SEATTLE' for anyone who was still out there.
In 2021, he met Meredith Grey, ferryboat company worker. The last woman on Earth. He helped her grow tomatoes. Then they fell in love. They were married by the end of the year. Mr and Mrs McDreamy.
In 2022, former nurse Cristina Yang knocked on their front door and almost gave Meredith a heart attack. She occasionally slept in their bed until army Major Owen Hunt arrived and she moved straight into his. Meredith and Cristina bonded quickly into the dark and twisty sisters. And Owen is still living in a truck because he can't get used to being inside again. He was stationed in Iraq when the virus broke out. Managing to get a transport home after his unit walked over landmines. He was the sole survivor. By the time former liar, sorry lawyer, Mark Sloan arrived; the last people had settled into a nice little group that sat around on couches in the street drinking their morning coffee. Which, now that they have a cow, actually tastes good again.
The group was functioning perfectly, the little community was growing, but Mark was alone. He got annoyed, he took the cow to a bar and tied her to a pool table. Then he went to the nearest 'ALIVE IN SEATTLE' billboard and wrote 'MOVED TO PORTLAND' over it. When the group found out, he was banished from the street. A little irrational, but emotions were running high. On his way out he ran into elementary school teacher Arizona Robbins and her girlfriend Callie Torres and shacked up with them for a while. Callie and Arizona met at the White House, and were happy, but after she met Mark, Callie started to think that maybe she wanted more.
Where we left off; Meredith and Derek had decided to go on holiday to the Grand Canyon, Owen had just told Cristina that he loved her and she didn't know how to reply, and Callie had just got into bed with Mark. Oh, and Amelia. Amelia Shepherd was still circling the Earth on the International Space Station in 2022. Sent up as a last resort for the survival of the human race, she watched as the lights on the green planet slowly went out.
