Chapter 1

(Red)

I balanced myself on one knee as I slid across the arena. I dug my gunblade into the ground as I tried to reduce my speed and dive back in. I lunged at the boss with my weapon high above my head and swung down until the tip of my blade made contact. It was an ugly cyclops, your typical dungeon boss, but still a slight challenge seeing as though my team was incomplete. Two of my allies were forced into another mission that was just as dire as this one. I sliced through the nasty beast and hit the ground hard. I jumped back as it swung the large bat it was holding in a circle around it, sending anything in its path flying. I wasn't doing enough damage to it. I wasn't suited for that, though. My job was to absorb any and all attacks this thing would throw so my team could take it down quickly, but alas. It was just me and my healer. She pulled a card from her floating Astrometer and threw it in my direction. It dissolved before me and I quickly felt the affect kick in. My abilities were enhanced and I was so much quicker. I climbed the boss until I was at his weakest point. I plunged my gunblade as deep as it could go into its eye and it screamed in agony. I pulled on my weapon in an attempt to retrieve it but it wouldn't budge. I was being thrown around by the flailing beast until it finally collapsed and dissipated into the aether. My blade fell to the ground. I looked over at my teammate who ran over to me with a smile on her face. I pulled her into a tight embrace and kissed her forehead. "You know how reckless you are, right?" She asked, her face pressed against my chest.

"Yeah, we'll, you knew that before you married me, so quit complaining," I shot back as we made our way out of the dungeon.

I crouched down and made eye contact with my reflection in the water from the pond in front of me. We were still a ways from home, so we decided to take a detour to a sanctuary not far from the halfway point between the mission and home. I scooped up some water into my palm and splashed my face. I was exhausted from the fighting, and the walking. I leaned my body back until I was on my bottom rather than my feet and stretched my legs. I felt my wife's hands wrap around me from behind before she moved to sit at my side. She had blue horns that resembled fins more than anything and scales covering her body in patches. Her light blonde hair made her green eyes stand out so well, they almost looked like they were glowing. Her skin was soft and light, unlike my own, and her figure was petite. She was beautiful. "You know, this is calming," she said and she let her finger tips run through the water. "I could stay here for a while.

"Good," I said, sighing. "I'm not moving for a while." I laid down all the way in the grass and looked up at the sky. I brought my arm up to block the sun out of my face.

"Oh, Red," she said. "You know we're on a time limit to get back to the Grand Company and report our findings before they send a rescue team to come and find us. Don't you remember what happened last time we were late because you decided you'd rather play in the mud from the river bank?" She placed her hand on her face. "Just thinking about it is so embarrassing. 'Mrs. Pallet, we were so worried about you. What happened?' And then I got to explain that you thought it'd be more fun to find out what would happen if you started a mud fight with me."

I laughed. That "mud fight" was never a fight. She ended up smacking me upside the head and yelling at me to behave myself. I did kind of deserve it, I suppose, but the one ball of mud I made ended up in her shoes and I had to carry her home. Totally worth it. I continued to laugh even more and she crossed her arms. The look she gave pierced through my laughter, but trying to contain it made my face turn a bright red. She dropped her arms and shook her head, a small smile forming until she was laughing right along with me.

I yawned and stretched. I was exhausted. I examined my face in the mirror of my bathroom. We made it home late last night, but we made it nonetheless. My black hair was messy and my eyes had dark circles around them. My golden brown skin was rough and callouses were forming on my palms from wielding my gunblade. I turned and looked at my side profile. I was a lot taller than my previously mentioned wife, as she reached my chest, and I had a muscular figure from all of my years battling on the frontline in Bazja. Dark scales covered my body in patches and my horns curled out from the side of my head around to the front of my face. I scratched at my chin, feeling like it was time to shave again. I closed my eyes and sighed. I didn't care at the moment, I was just ready to get back into my warm, comfy bed.

I stepped out of the bathroom and walked down the hall to our little bedroom. I was the better decorator, but Asura picked the color of our walls; a minty green that was just so, her. Pictures of our grandest adventures lined them. There were book shelves with little knickknacks along the tops and in the corner stood our wardrobe. It had clothes strewn about all around it. She was in a hurry to pack our things as we were summoned on such short notice to the last mission. I laughed to myself. She was also a bit messy as it was. I loved her nonetheless. I laid right beside her on the bed, but she rolled to face her back to me. She was still fast asleep, so I closed my own and drifted back to sleep, not anticipating what would occur in the coming days.

Hello, and yes. I know this chapter is very short, but I felt like it was good for and introduction to some of the characters rather than the main plot.

Anyways, this story is strictly based off of Squenix's FINAL FANSTASY XIV. I don't own any of the story elements, other than the OC's, as you play the game with a character of your own design. It's honestly my absolute favorite game.

I thought it would be sweet to bring to life the lore my boyfriend created for his character, so I do hope you enjoy!

sincerely, ~PandaWhere
