The chapter title didn't fully fit so here it is
Hijacking a quest (on accident) and buried alive
3RD PERSON OMNISCIENT THE FOLLOWING DAY
Percy was back in the dungeon again, Mama Mia said he should take a few days of each week off to explore it. Said it would help him gain money faster than just working at her tavern.
Percy personally thought she was just annoyed he walked into her tavern, dripping monster blood and causing a distraction again.
He was partially right, of course. She was most certainly annoyed he dripped blood all over her tavern and caused a distraction again.
Especially since the girls who were working stopped for about five minutes before Mama Mia got in their asses about slacking.
But Mia Grande really did want him to go to the dungeon more, so he and his sister would be better off sooner. They were good kids in her eyes, after all.
So that's why Percy was on floor fifteen, with his outfit back to what it was before he tugged on the rope. It took him over an hour to figure out he just had to will them back into that form, but if anyone asked if it was because his sister suggested it. He wouldn't deny it, just scoff and say he would have figured it out eventually.
He figured if he didn't want to stand out too much he would need to adjust himself to how powerful the adventure here were, he decided a level five would be good, and allow him to challenge himself a little bit. This is why he was fighting monsters using Pankration while on his way to floor eighteen.
Herakles may have been a grade A jerk, but the guy had made a great fighting style. He couldn't deny that. When he was first learning it, Percy figured it'd take at least a year to be decent at it.
But it turned out he could pick up on fighting techniques after seeing it once or twice in action, something he didn't realize until then.
He admittedly felt a bit stupid for that. It wasn't like it was exactly new. He did the same with Luke's disarming technique, Artemis's polevaulting lesson on Atlas, twice. Along with a few other things he's seen.
He figured it might have something to do with how he adapts to certain opponents, how he learned to read the muscles of opponents and to fight without thinking at the age of twelve against Ares so he could predict his opponent's next move, and so he couldn't read his mind mid battle.
Because of learning to read his opponents muscles mid battle to predict them, he slowly became so fluid and unpredictable in his own fighting style that reading his own muscles would prove impossible.
Or how quickly it was that he became silent when walking or running to prevent monsters from hearing him. He didn't notice these until Chiron had pointed some of it out, and they had a talk.
Chiron had hypothesized that the reason he could do this was because of the sea, how unpredictable it was. How water could adapt to fit any container, of how sea life could thrive in harsh conditions.
It made sense when put like that, and it was another thing he would have to thank his father for. But it also made finding someone to test him more and more difficult. Seemingly impossible now he was in Orario.
But he would make do and adapt to his situation as perfectly as one could. He always did, after all. This time would be no different.
The monsters he was facing right now were child's play, a backhand here, a shove into a wall there. It was boring, but kept them busy, at least until he started to laugh and ramp it up a bit.
Then they had run off leaving him to brood, which certainly didn't help, because any monsters that were previously brave enough or maybe stupid enough to face him while he was laughing, ran with their tail between their legs when they saw his expression then.
Leaving him to sigh and put his hands in his pockets as he finally came upon the entrance to floor eighteen before entering. He was getting a bit hungry, so he decided going to a tavern down here for something to eat would be a good idea.
He walked around a bit before finally finding one that looked to be carved from a cliff face, shrugging as he headed inside to grab what he came for.
Entering, he saw a middle-aged man at the bar cleaning a glass with a rage. He wore a green tank top and had brown hair bushy eyebrows, and had a lot of body hair on his forearms and chest.
Percy approached the man behind the bar, hoping against hope they had what was quickly becoming a favorite snack of his here.
"One potato popper, with macha cream, uh please?"
The man stared at him a bit before he pointed to a door on his left, leaving Percy a bit confused. "Oh uh, thanks?" Percy tossed some vali to him as he walked by.
So Percy went to the door, opened it, and walked in before, before he looked around and came to a sudden realization. "I've been fucking scammed."
LINEBREAK, THIRD PERSON LIMITED
Percy was a bit annoyed, he asked for snack, payed for it, and was now in a room with a bunch of people he didn't know, and he was back to brooding because of that. Only for a short time tho, because one of them spoke up, the blonde with honey colored eyes he saw on his first day here.
"The Perseus?" He didn't like that anyone here somehow knew his full name, and he made sure to let it be known as he started walking towards them. "Who told you my name, I haven't told anyone, so you sure as shit shouldn't know it."
She took a step back, before placing her hand on the hilt of her sword. That was fine with him, if he had to beat it out of someone he would. Woman or not it didn't matter, especially if his sister could be put at risk because of it.
Before it could escalate any further, a woman with light blue hair, dark blue eyes, and fair skin. Wearing a dark red robe and white glasses stepped in.
"I believe she was talking to me, Perseus is my alias given by the gods. It means-" He cut her off "Destroyer, yeah I know. It's my name. Originating from my native language and land."
He then directed himself towards the girl with blonde hair. "Sorry for that, I haven't told anyone my full name. So it put me on edge."
She stared for a while, maybe contemplating something. Before she answered. "That's understandable. My name is Ais Wallenstein, it's nice to meet you Perseus."
So a misunderstanding is all it was, at least his luck didn't cause anything to happen because of it. "Nice to meet you Ais, but please call me Percy. Perseus makes me feel old."
Percy learned that they were planning on going to the fifth floor to check out why monsters weren't allowing adventurers to pass. Since he had nothing better to do, he decided he may as well join them.
TIMESKIP: A FEW MINUTES
Percy was walking through the Rivira with Ais, and two Hermes Familia members. Asfi, their captain, and Lulune, who was a Chienthrope.
Apparently they were talking about a quest Lulune went on not too long ago, one where an adventure had died.
Looked like Asfi didn't approve of Lulune going on another one so soon after the previous one. He couldn't say he blamed her given the circumstances, but she was being a bit harsh in his opinion. He wasn't paying too much attention tho, at least until now.
"That black robed jerk tried to blackmail us and you know it. He said he would expose all of our Familia's secrets." it seemed like a good enough reason to accept to Percy, he couldn't exactly see any flaws in her logic.
But Asfi didn't seem to agree. "Lulune, you need to learn to hold you tongue, that mouth of yours is what got us into this in the first place."
Percy scoffed, which grabbed Asfi's attention.
"Is there something you wish to say?" She scowled at him a bit. He side eyed her before responding.
"Yeah actually, there is." He paused to gain his bearings before continuing. "You're being to harsh on her, if what she said was true. Then accepting this quest was perfectly reasonable. A great show of loyalty to her Familia too."
Asfi opened her mouth to respond, but he cut her off. "As for your Familia's secrets, it's not like she spilled any. Besides, I'm willing to bet every Familia has it's own secrets, and that everyone knows that. So a Familia having secrets is itself not a secret. You have no reason to scold her so long as she doesn't let any out, which is doubtful given how loyal she clearly is to you all."
The rest of the walk was fairly quiet from then on, just the tapping of feet along the dirt path they were walking along. Finally they made it with the rest of the group, where they went over what they knee.
Monsters congregating around the pantry, not letting adventurers through, talks on supplies they should get before going down, a general game plan, all that jazz.
But before we could go, Ais needed to do something apparently, not sure what. But I would assume it must be important if she decided to delay the trip for even the slightest bit longer.
She wanted to have someone from Rivira hold onto a piece of cheap adventurers gear before they went down. Not nearly as important as Percy initially thought. But given the fact it smelled like Bell, and she claimed it was important. He decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she wanted to return it to him or something.
TIMESKIP: ONE HOUR
They met up again on level twenty four. Already waiting for them was a purple haired Prum girl, a blond elf, and a brown haired chienthrope, both of which were male.
They went over the map one last time, before Asfi gave Lulune the map to lead us forward.
"The closest pantry looks to be...right over there" Lulune had pointed over to the right as she said that.
But it sounded like the monsters were in the opposite direction, smelled like it too. But even without that he knew they were coming from the left, he could sense them.
Apparently he wasn't the only one, because Ais could too. The 'Sword Princess' as she was called. That was interesting, she might be someone to look out for if that was anything to go by.
TIMESKIP TO A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE RAVINE
As the group walked Percy started to sense something else, of what he wasn't sure. He just knew it wasn't natural, and that was almost never a good thing in his experience.
He made idle chatter with Lulune as they proceeded, trying to keep his mind off of what those unnatural presences could mean.
"So Lulune, what level might you be currently?" She looked at Asfi who nodded, causing me to roll my eyes.
"I'm currently level three. What about you, and your Familia?" It was a good thing he had thought about this, and put some effort into making it work.
"I'm currently level five, as for my Familia? Well they're not exactly around anymore. If it's alright with you I'd prefer not to talk about it. Sore subject and all." luckily it would seem that worked, death of loved ones was apparently a multiversal thing.
"It's a bit of a shame tho, because I have one I wouldn't mind joining, but I can't seem to find them." That was a half truth. He was looking for a specific goddess, but not necessarily to join her Familia.
"Oh? Well if I knew their name I might be able to help." He smiled, she certainly had her faults. But she was kind and loyal.
That put her pretty high up there in terms of character in Percy's opinion, so he'd indulge her. Besides maybe she would have an idea where to look. "I wouldn't mind joining the Artemis Familia, she seems like the kind of goddess who would be fighting right alongside her Familia."
If this Artemis was anything like the one back home. Then that was an understatement, she was a fiercely loyal goddess if you earned hers. She'd fight tooth and nail to help someone who had proven themselves worthy of her loyalty.
It's why despite some of her past actions and prejudices he held her in such high regard amongst the gods. True loyalty was rare among them, and despite her aforementioned prejudices. She wouldn't act on them or allow her hunters to if she were around, unless you did something that would prove her distaste for men was warranted.
"Oh, well sorry to disappoint you. But no one knows where Artemis or her Familia are, and even if they did. Well she doesn't allow any males into her Familia, and doesn't allow her members to form relationships. She'll release them if they wish to tho." He smiled, well it was looking like this Artemis and the one back home were far more similar than he expected.
But that could also prove to be a problem, after all he did wish to speak with her about that wish he made when he first got to Orario. He didn't know why she had tried granting it, but he still wanted to thank her for attempting to help his mother.
He was pulled out of his musings by bumping into Lulune who was stopped by Ais who had put her hand in front of her. Looks like they had finally arrived at where the monsters were.
TIMESKIP: FIFTEEN MINUTES
A green wall like thing was what caused the monsters to be little shits, blocking them off from their food. Yeah, Percy knew he'd be pissed if he was kept from his food. That's about par for the course tho, monsters wanting to eat someone because of someone or something else.
He sighed, he was so done with the multiversal constants. Especially when so many seemed to be negative. "So we just cut this shit down and we can get out of here right?"
He looked up only to find they had already made a hole through it and walked inside, so he followed after them only to find. "Of course it's a fucking room, gods dammit!" He groaned, maybe he should just stick to the Hostess of Fertility instead.
"Ugh, Gross!" Lulune had made her displeasure known very clearly, not that I could blame her but. "Meh, it's much more preferable than the mouth of a dragon, that's for sure."
He got a few stares, the Prum who's name he had already forgotten asked. "You've been eaten by a dragon?" He laughed at that, not at her, but how she phrased it.
"I don't think so, I am still alive after all. No, dragons have tried to eat me. But they failed miserably, I was a bit too hard to chew one time, the other I was just annoyed." He smiled as he said that, with a fond look in his eyes, as if reminiscing good memories.
No one knew how to take that. After all, who talks about being chewed up by a dragon as if it's part of days they miss? Certainly not anyone who's sane.
Suddenly the green wall thing had mended the hole they made trapping everyone inside.
"So, we are in agreement that that is a terrible sign right? It's not just me who realizes this?"
Percy felt the need to ask, luckily the subtle nods at his words reassured him he wasn't wrong in his thinking.
They continued walking down the green room, hallway? Percy wasn't sure what to call it, but it wasn't right, which was made more apparent when he sensed something being used on the wall again.
Aus let out a gasp. "It's here!" and then a bunch of those plant monsters that appeared the day he arrived in Orario made another appointment.
He grinned, and tugged on the rope causing it to once again become the gladiator like armor he wore when he fought the Goliath. He tapped his wristwatch causing a shield to spiral out, and uncapped Riptide. Causing her to once again shine with a fierce light, just as excited for this as him.
He bore a smile as he decided to try something. He knew those skilled enough could use the Mist to warp reality to some extent. So what if he? "Yes! It worked." The others looked away from the monsters temporarily.
He didn't care tho, he was too excited. He had weaved the Mist carefully but quickly so as too ensure the effects of what he had just done would dissipate when he unwound the mist from around himself. What had he done? Used the mist to make himself weaker, about as physically powerful as he was at 14, and as magically inclined as he was at about 12.
It was temporary of course, and much more powerful than a level five adventurer, but he could more easily regulate his strength and speed this way. He was burst from his inner celebration by one of the monsters attempting to attack him.
"Too slow, you didn't think you'd actually be a challenge did you?" He teased the plant like monster, playfully dodging it and swatting it with the flat of his blade as he danced around.
Bullets were slow for him at 14, so of course this monster was.
That didn't mean he would actually underestimate it tho, he wasn't stupid. "Haha, yes! Come on fight me more!" He laughed as he cut them down, using his sword, or crushing them with the edge of his shield.
He spun and kicked one attempting to attack him from behind. Decapitation it with a swift round house, while at the same time he stuck his shield up, allowing one to slam into it. Causing him to spin horizontally and bring his sword up to cut it as it dove past him towards Lulune, effectively killing itself.
Another attempted to attack his right leg as he landed, it didn't account for his left shooting down and stomping it into the green floor, splattering it and creating a small crater.
The Hermes Familia members with them had assumed battle formation not too long ago, holding their own fairly well, Ais certainly had no issue, killing them as quick if not quicker than himself. He gained a glint in his eye, he had always been competitive, and as he was now, Ais was offering a decent challenge.
He would make sure he killed more. So he slung his right arm out releasing his shield as he did, and cut a monster on his left in half with his sword. The shield soared through the air bouncing off of the monsters, cutting some in half and splattering others as it ricocheted off them and the walls, killing 9 in total before it sailed back to him where he caught it and spun splattering a monster with by backhanding it using the shield.
He kneed one monster before piercing it and ripping it up, killing it. One went for his head so he decided to give it a taste. One headbutt made the head of that monster a fine mist, some of its blood getting on his face covering it as he grinned.
He started laughing again, the same kind of laugh he did on the bridge at 16 when he wielded the curse of Achilles, he had thought it was the curse at the time. But seeing it happening now, that same maniacal laugh that caused him as much fear as his opponents, that made it impossible to think he was the good guy based off of the slaughtering and laughing.
He knew inside himself that it wasn't just a side effect from the curse, he was a demigod. They were bred for battle, him more so than others. As a prime candidate of the prophecy of the second titan war, a prophecy which revolved around him. Alongside being a major player in the second giant war and possibly even the one to end it if the prophecy included hurricanes as a storm, and he was the son of the sea? A place which had animals that were beautiful but deadly, that thrived in a beautiful but terrifying environment? Put all of that into one person and it would be no wonder they were prone to intense bloodlust if they weren't careful.
It made some sense, he was a demigod, bred for battle, and he excelled at what he was bred for. Why wouldn't he find some sick twisted enjoyment in being good at what he was made for. Don't get him wrong, the gods had nothing to do with it. This was something he had earned all his own, he refused to let the gods take any credit for it.
It wasn't just his laugh and the way he slaughtered enemies, some dying swiftly, slowly, but always agonizing and gruesome, that made people uneasy. No, it was also his expressions, one that had made gods run in terror, it wasn't the usual brooding expression he wore, or the wolf stare Lupa had taught him. It was something horrifying, even evil looking. Something even being like Kronos or Set would be wary of.
There were no words to describe it other than it brought out an innate primal fear that all beings who faced him shared. A fear only he as an enemy could cause, it terrified all, but also instilled a sense of hope into allies who would see it.
He didn't know what brought it out this time, it worried him a bit too. Not knowing why it had been brought out, but he knew for certain he HATED it. Blood lust is what it was but a finely tuned one, laser focused.
It was something all warriors would hope to achieve, but very few if any ever would. A primal rage and an innate lust for battle, combined into one unstoppable being. To be able to have perfect bearings to be cognizant and suffer no loss in skill or reason as you fought, but instead to gain more due to truly understanding battle and war as if it and you were one. It was a thing of beauty in a way, something to be admired. But also something to fear should you be its target.
He thought they were all idiots, to enjoy being in the thick of battle, to enjoy killing wasn't right. But he did enjoy it, and he hated himself for it. He had thought he had finally learned to keep it from happening, because it hadn't happened since Tartarus...maybe that was it, the dungeon seemed like it was this world's Tartarus. Maybe it also had a similar effect as his own?
He hoped so, because he didn't want to acknowledge that maybe there was something that was fundamentally not right with himself. He didn't trust himself around Estelle when he was like this, it was an irrational thought, he would never hurt her, had only ever harmed enemies even in a state like this. But he was scared of what this could mean, what it could cause.
He HATED himself, hated this part of himself. Wished he could rip it out and throw it into the deepest parts of the Mariana trench. Because how could someone kill with a smile on their face, laughing as they did so?
He acknowledged Ais was cut off from the rest of them, but he also acknowledged she was capable of handling herself, and if she couldn't? Well he would be there to help her.
but for now he kept going, fighting even harder, faster and better. He was angry at himself, pissed that he felt good. He knew this would only cause it to get worse, but he needed an outlet to vent all the anger he felt targeted at himself. Someone else to blame for the time being.
Elbowing one as he punched his sword through another. Kneeing one into two more, killing all three, finally throwing his sword through one as he threw his shield into one to use as a springboard to jump into a mound of them, tearing them apart with his bare hands, before finally reaching his sword and swinging as he turned, cutting five more in half.
More started to appear, over thrice as many as there had initially been. He laughed once more, they were trying to tire him out. That wasn't something they could do even at the age of 14 he could take multiple blows from Atlas, the titan who held the sky, before he himself decided to hold the sky, it's how he got that streak of white in his hair after all.
"Keep them coming! You're no titan, you're not a worldbearer, I can do this for at least a week. Send me more prey, I'm hungry!" He had a feral grin on his face, and the monsters suddenly knew that a true apex predator had shown itself. It bared its fangs and claws at them, before it lunged forward decapitation 6 with the sword and pulverizing 8 more with his shield as he did, they tried to escape, even as more were spawned in, but there was none.
He saw them as Atlas then, someone he deeply hated, he caused his best friend to be captured and an innocent girl to be killed because of it. He had killed his own daughter, someone who he had begun to truly see as a friend. He was what led to Percy seeing the deaths of his friends for the first time.
Atlas was why he felt this way, he must have been, because Percy couldn't bear the thought that maybe deep down, some part of him had always been like this. But he knew that wasn't the case, people often debated on nature versus nurture. Percy knew that this problem he had was the two working in conjunction, his heritage as a son of Poseidon and child of such terrible prophecies was nature doing it's duty. But the abuse from Gabe, before being thrust into a world of gods and monsters, where it was kill or be killed, that way the nurture taking place.
He knew physically he and his comrades would be fine. Mentally and emotionally they would recover quickly. But him? He knew this would scar him for a long time, just like it always did, just another reason to loathe himself.
The wind started to pick up around him, slowly at first, but rapidly gaining speed, his hatred towards himself causing his powers to rise to the maximum allowed as he was now. He sped up, shooting around with a personal hurricane surrounding him, his sword a blur of death as it cleaved the monsters in two. His shield was used as a battering ram, slamming through them as he cleared a path for the Hermes Familia to go through.
He didn't mind being left behind for a while, maybe he would be able to come to some conclusion. To be able to accept this part of him as much as he loathed it, but it wasn't to be that day, just a boy lashing out due to the hatred he had for himself.
His eyes shot open, something happened. He didn't know what, but it wasn't anything good. He sat up and looked around, realizing he had fallen asleep after killing the monsters. Not due to being tired. But being emotionally strung out, he was exhausted.
But that could wait, he jumped up, before running down the way the Hermes Familia had met. He made a promise to himself then, he wouldn't allow that side of himself to come out again, not when there were people around or he had a mission.
He was slowed down fighting the monsters on his way there. Not because they were difficult to deal with, but because he wanted to make sure he didn't go off the rails again.
Thirty meters, that's how far he was from where they were at. When he saw a bright flash of light, he stopped for a second, batting a Viola into the wall with his shield, killing it. There was more now, blocking the entrance to where he needed to go. That wasn't a problem, the issue was doing so fast enough to get there if they needed help, without risking going into another frenzy.
He would go at the same pace as before, until he could figure out a solution to his issue, or if the risk was worth it. It didn't take long, only killing three more before he came to a realization. Water, he summoned water and formed it into discs, launching them at the Viola's with nothing more than a thought, and he was on his way again.
Percy got to the pantry, right as all the Viola's were being killed, the large one having its head punched off by a silver haired wolf man.
The Hermes Familia, the wolf man, an elf girl with black hair, and the ginger haired elf girl stood in front of a man wearing damn near nothing.
Percy didn't catch what was said. But suddenly a Viola even bigger than he one that was wrapped around the pink crystalline object in the center of the pantry appeared, taking the place of the previous one.
The man was praising someone, just as Ais appeared bursting through a wall fighting a woman with red hair. Percy ignored any words being said, instead launching himself forward and punching the crystal causing cracks to form as Ais went for the Viola and the wolf man went after the streaker.
The ginger elf shot some magic at the streaker, as the wolf man jumped up. Allowing the magic which the streaker had deflected to be absorbed into his greaves. Kicking him into the far wall.
Percy was only focused on continuing his objective, punching the crystal, causing more and more cracks to form slowly but surely breaking it, something was up with that green thing embedded into it.
He only stopped when he saw the red haired woman grab something out of the streaker's chest, causing him to crumble before she ate the stone she pulled out. Percy decided to continue on his task, causing the room to begin shaking and falling apart, he smirked. This should cause some positive problems, he hauled his fist back for one last strike, right as the wolf man, the ginger elf, and Ais left the pantry in the opposite direction of the red haired woman.
As he punched the crystal one last time, causing the entire pantry to finally come crumbling down on top of him, burying him underneath hundreds of thousands of tons of rubble.
~~~~~CHAPTER END~~~~~
Note: This will be the last chapter of this story for a bit, I need to situate myself and get ready for something coming soon.
