Jiminy Hopper was leaning against the dungeon wall with his hands in his pockets when Red took one look at him and scoffed, "Do you want dungeon mold all over your coat?! Gross."
Not moving away from the wall, he turned his head and looked directly at her. "Care to explain the feelings behind your emotional outburst, Red? I would be fascinated to know."
Glaring at him, Red said, "I'm fine. Stop trying to analyze me."
Jiminy's lip twitched in amusement, and he said, "I'd say your bark is worse than your bite, but we all know that's not true. Teasing aside, though, you're cunning when you're angry. I think it's the predator inside of you. I was hoping for ideas."
Graham was amused to watch Red's attitude melt away quickly. Jiminy was the only one, other than himself, that could change her mood so quickly.
Red said, "I'm trying. Every plan I can come up with requires one of us to be on the other side of these damn bars," as she said that she pointed to them. "I hate coming up blank."
"What about Blue?" August asked hopefully.
Lancelot sighed in frustration at the dumb question; he didn't think August was an asset to the team; he said, "Locked up too, all on her own, I'm sure. They were smart to wait to ambush us until she went off scouting alone. We should assume they used a cuff to block her magic, and she can't help us. They would have to lock her up separately, too, since they can't risk one of us taking it off her."
"I thought of that," Red said. "It means that even if we get out, we have to find her too before we can escape. I do have a plan for that," she said, smirking.
"That is?" Jiminy asked.
Snow White laughed at his question. She fully understood her friend's plan. "Red, you assume our jailbreak will happen on a full moon."
"Eating everyone is a great plan!" Red objected, knowing what Snow was going to say. "I just need to time everything right."
Robin Hood stayed quiet and watched Grumpy live up to the full meaning of his name. The Dwarf was scowling and grumbling under his breath. Finally, Robin said, "And what are you mumbling, Grumpy."
"Emma could have saved us," Grumpy fussed. "They were prepared for Blue but wouldn't have known what to expect with her. She should have been allowed to come."
David let out a long sigh and then surprised everyone by saying, "You're right."
"David!" Snow objected. "She's…" She grew quiet and whispered, afraid of being overheard, "She's our daughter. It wouldn't be safe."
"No, you're wrong," David responded. "Apparently, I need to remind you that you were younger than her when you started out."
"Because my father couldn't protect me!" Snow yelled. "I was left alone and defenseless! Graham is the only reason I even survived at the beginning. She needs to be kept safe!"
David shook his head, "I can't protect her now! Look at me," he said, indicating the dungeon they were in. "You weren't defenseless because you were orphaned. You were defenseless because your father kept you sheltered. He never prepared you for the real world, and I've done the same thing with Emma."
"We taught her to fight!" Snow snapped.
"Against people who didn't want her hurt. That wasn't really training. That was sparing," David said, frowning at the floor. "If she's forced to use what she learned from us, she will die. I failed her."
Grumpy said, "If you weren't my true King and Queen, I would tell you both to shut up."
"Yeah, because putting it that way isn't rude at all," Red said, amused by his phrasing.
Grumpy actually smiled a bit at that, then added, "Once we left on this trip, that discussion became pointless. I'm just upset that I didn't advocate for bringing her before we left on this ill-conceived mission."
"Now you're trying to push Snow's buttons," Lancelot observed.
"I'm in a bad mood —shocker!" Grumpy said. "I just wish Emma was here. She's clever and magical. We need her."
Everyone was startled when they heard Emma say, "Wish granted, Grumpy. Now, wish for me to get you out of here," she said as she used her magic to unlock the dungeon door.
