Before this even begins, I'm warning anyone who reads this fic. There is mentions of suicide, self harm and other dark images. If that bothers you in anyway, I advice you stop now. This story is based off my own life in a way. All the feelings that Natsu is going to go through is what I went through, his thoughts are my thoughts. But don't worry I'm okay before you ask, but I had this planned for a while now. So without further a do, here is Mending A Dragon's Broken Heart. I hope you enjoy.

"Dark thoughts"

The water violently crashed against the cliff side, wind raging on as lightning and thunder crashed across the sky. A lone figure stood over the edge, glancing out into the never-ending abyss of rough sea with lifeless eyes. Metallic liquid poured down off his hands, coating the grass in crimson. Slowly unraveling the scaley white scarf that draped around his neck, holding it in his grasp as white became red. With gritted fangs he stepped closer to the edge, staring down at the never ending bottomless sea. "I'm sorry... everyone.. please forgive me," he muttered as his hair and vest were soaked from the torrential downpour.

With one more step it could all be over. The pain in his heart that got worse every second of the hour, the voices that droned on in his head till he was on the brink of madness. "I can free you all of this burden," with one last gaze at his scarf that fell from his grasp. One final step is all it took to be free, to be happy. Footsteps grew closer, it was now or never. A puddle that reflected off the ground that showed his broken state, his body that lost it's muscle, his eyes that had lost it's fire. "Goodbye..." He closed his eyes and leaned forward, letting the wind commit the final act.

"NATSU!!!!!"

~A Year Earlier~

Natsu had a slight bounce in his step as he made his way to the guildhall. Citizens greeted him with a smile, he shined his fangs back, nothing could ruin the amazing feeling that he felt. After Acnologia was defeated by the dragon slayers, Natsu being the one that dealt the final blow. He asked Lucy a question, a question she begged to hear so she could say yes.

After falling from the sky, landing right into the blond's plentiful chest, he stared into Lucy's eyes as a small blush took over her cheeks. Realizing the position they were in, he jumped up from her with a deep blush. "S-sorry Luce! Couldn't control the landing," he rubbed the back of his neck nervously with a signature toothy grin.

Lucy stared at him for a moment, blinking a couple times to make sure her mind wasn't playing tricks on her. "N-natsu?" She slowly stood up off the ground, Happy hovering between them. "I-its really you? You didn't dissappear?"

"I'm here ain't I?" He pointed to himself with a smile. "If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be here Lucy, thank you from the bottom of my heart."

"Natsu!" Lucy cried, throwing her arms around Natsu, letting all the pent up emotions she had held back during the war, leaking onto the dragon slayer's chest. The heavy weight on her chest, restricting her breathing had lifted. Natsu was here, he was actually here. "I-I thought I lost you," she whimpered, clutching onto him tightly. "Don't ever do that again, you hear me?!"

A hand was placed on the back of her head as she lifted her head to look up to see his warm smile. "I promise, Lucy," Natsu rested his forehead against hers. "I won't do it again."

"Y-you are such an idiot you know that?"

"Yeah, yeah I am," he replied with a small chuckle.

Everyone smiled at the touching moment, knowing only one more step and they would be together. But Natsu being as dense as he was, wouldn't know love when he seen it, or did he?

A week after the war, Lucy heard her window open. She turned around to see Natsu climbing in, Happy being absent from his side which confused her. She crossed her arms over her chest with a small pout. "Are you ever gonna use the damn door?" She asked with a raised brow.

Natsu turned away with a small pink tinting his cheeks. "Y-yeah, sorry."

'Is he... blushing?' Lucy thought with wide eyes. She never thought he did blush, unless Erza brought up their embarrassing childhood memories of bathing together, which still confused her on the relationship he had with Erza and Gray. "D-dont worry about, I've gotten used to it by now anyway," she waved her hand dismissively with a small chuckle.

This seemed to perk him up as he walked over to take a seat on her bed. "Can we talk? I got.. something important I need to ask you."

Lucy smiled softly, leaning forward in her chair, resting her chin on her hand. "Sure, what did you want to ask me Natsu?"

The blond noticed him bite his lip, his small pink blush becoming deeper. He twiddled his thumbs, looking down to the floor. "I've been.. thinking a lot about us, Lucy. After the war with my brother, Acnologia..." his right hand that was almost completely scarred up to his shoulder clenched tightly. "The fact I learned I'm actually a demon from my own brother, Zeref."

Lucy stood up from her seat, walking over to sit next to him on the bed as she gently cupped his hand in hers. "I don't care what you are, Natsu. Demon, dragon, human. You're still the Natsu that I met all those years ago in Hargeon. The one I..." she trailed off with a small blush, biting her lip as she turned away.

"Love..." Natsu answered for her with a small smile, causing her to whip her head in his direction in shock. "Luce..." he paused for a moment to find the right words. "I know how you feel about me. People may think I'm dense when it comes to feelings, but I'm not. Because I... I-I love you too Lucy."

Lucy stared wide eyed with her mouth slightly agape. The blush that was on her cheeks, deepened all around her face. "Y-you love me?"

"I do," he nodded his head gently with a smile. "After you saved my life from Zeref, I knew right then I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you... which is why I want to ask this question before I choke," he shuffled on the bed to face her completely, grabbing her hands in his with a bright smile. "Lucy... will you.. will you be my girlfriend?"

Tears pricked at the corner of her eyes, a wide smile making it's way across her face. In a matter of a second she tackled him to the bed, planting her lips against his. "Yes! Yes you idiot, of course I'll be your girlfriend!"

Natsu's heart pumped rapidly against his chest as he cupped her cheek with his hand. He leaned in to capture her lips as she wrapped her arms around him tightly. A warmth radiated off his body that brought Lucy in comfort, her body melting against his. Breathing was needed unfortunately, so the kiss had to be broken as she laid her head against his chest with a warm smile, closing her eyes. "I love you.. Natsu."

"I love you too, Lucy."

After that moment they were inseparable from each other. The guild soon learned about their relationship, fully supporting it all the way. Natsu couldn't of been more happier in the moment, knowing he finally had someone to love after Lisanna. Lucy was thrilled, finally claiming Natsu as her boyfriend. Six Months had passed since they became a couple. that's why as Natsu stopped in front of the door of the guild, he lifted his foot to slam against the door as it practically almost came off it's hinges. "I'm here!"

"Finally he shows up, where were you flamebrain?" Gray asked with a small scowl, digging his hands into his pants pockets, leaning against one of the banisters.

Natsu rolled his eyes, walking into the guild. "I'm not even that late, Ice Princess so cool your ice cubes."

"What was that ash for brains?!" Gray butted his head with Natsu's gritting his teeth. "Wanna say it again?"

"I would stripper, let's go right here and now!" Natsu growled, pushing his head against his rivals as sparks flew between the two.

"What is the meaning of this?!" A authoritative voice boomed as the two mage's faces paled. With a clank of her armor, Erza stood in front of the duo with a small fierce glare on her face. "You two aren't fighting are you?" She asked with a slight edge, knowing full good and well they were.

Natsu and Gray swung around, placing their arms around each other's shoulders. "We're not fighting! Right best buddy?" Natsu asked with a forced grin, glancing over at Gray. "Yep, no fighting here Erza! Just hanging out with my best pal."

The knight stared at the two for a moment, narrowing her eyes suspiciously towards the duo before she smiled softly. "Good, glad to see you two getting along. Anyway, we're going on a mission today," she slammed a paper down on the table. "Apparently a small group of bandits, assisted by a small dark guild have been terrorizing a town, our job is to take down both organizations, and contact the council for them to be captured. Any objections?" She asked, glancing over the group.

Natsu slammed his fists together with a small spark of fire. "Alright! Finally, been waiting to knock some heads."

"I agree with flamebreath, I need a good warm up," Gray nodded his head.

"Is that all you two think about?" Carla scoffed gently, causing Wendy to giggle.

"Aye! That's Natsu and Gray for you," Happy chimed in with a smile.

Natsu noticed the amount with a wide grin. "Hey, Luce this will be a good amount to cover your rent for a few months," he turned towards his girlfriend who sat there quietly, glancing down at the floor."

"Well, that's good," Lucy answered quietly, standing up from the table. "I'll go get packed," she went to leave, but not before giving Natsu a small kiss on the cheek before leaving.

Natsu blinked in confusion at her behavior with a small frown. "Did I.. do something?"

"What haven't you done?" Gray retorted with a smirk, before getting knocked in the head by an annoyed scarlet knight.

"Knock it off Gray," Erza scolded the ice wizard before turning to Natsu with a smile. "I'm sure she's just tired, Natsu. Don't think too much on it," she patted his shoulder. "I'll meet you guys at the station in an hour, don't be late!"

With that Erza, Gray, Wendy and Carla left to get ready. "Well, I'm sure we should get ready, huh?" Happy turned to the dragon slayer who looked lost in thought. "Natsu?"

Natsu blinked, shaking his head with a grin. "Yeah, let's go bud."

As he walked back to his home, he couldn't help but think about one thing that bothered him the more he thought about it. 'Lucy.. what's wrong?'

And so begins a new story! I know that beginning had you there for a moment hehe. Decided to tease the future, but anyway as you can see it's Nalu for now. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and I'll see you all in the next one. Later :)
