The White Picket Fence Dream

Sweat dribbled down his forehead and rolled down onto his eyes as Elliot wiped them away with a hand towel hung around his neck, surveying the acres of upturned soiled they had been working on.

Men of various age congregated around him and the green John Deere tractor he'd been working with taking in the fruits of their labor. It had taken more than a few weeks to finally finish tilling the 10 acres of land in their farm and now they could start sowing for the year.

The hybrid couldn't be more satisfied from the result. He and his workers had hustled diligently as soon as the frost receded getting the ground ready for the year. Now it would only take a few days getting the seeds planted and he could finally rest for the first time in weeks.

The setting sun cast a glare on his eyes, bringing a long day of work to an end. His HUD blinked into view and the time was 6 PM. Turning to his workers, he gave a grin towards the weary men.

"That's it, men! Good work! You can all go home now!"

The workers obeyed with relief and dispersed to leave for home. Elliot brought the tractor back to the warehouse before locking down the farm and drove for home. He hoped that his children wouldn't mind having him around now that the immediate workload was gone.

Miles of Ernèe countryside sped by his window as he travelled home. The golden rays bounced off of miles of freshly tilled earth from the surrounding farms. Elliot mused as his gaze momentarily shifted to the barren fields before turning back on the road.

'Spring's still early. I can feel a bit of frost in the air. Maybe we need to wait a bit before planting.'

His car rolled onto the large farm that was his home, stopping inside the worn stone barn converted into a garage. Gravel crunched under his well-worn boots as the hybrid padded up to the rustic farmhouse, the sounds of children giggling coming from inside soothed his weary soul as he entered the humble domicile.

"I'm home!"

""Daddy!""

A boy and a girl scampered from the direction of the kitchen and into the living room. The children immediately divebombed him as he wrapped his around them tightly. A blonde woman came into his view shortly, wearing an apron and a smile on her face.

"Welcome home cheriè! How's your day?"

Elliot smiled as he picked up his children and faced his wife. The beaming smile on Charlotte's face banished whatever fatigue he felt from the day's labor.

"Same old, same old. What're you and the kids doing?"

"Baking cookies. The kids wanted to help and let's just say they've made quite the mess."

"I can see that. You've got some flour on your cheeks. Did the kids touched your face with flour on their hands?"

Charlotte realized her disheveled state and gasped. The French woman started wiping her face with her hands to in an attempt to get rid of the mess. "How is it now? Did I get all of it?"

Elliot chuckled, seeing that there's a smudge of flour still caked on Charlotte's right cheekbone.

"Close. You've missed a spot."

The hybrid shifted his grip on his son, allowing his shoulder to support the child. His arm came up and brushed away the debris marring his wife's beautiful complexion.

"There. Now you're beauty's back."

The laid-back compliment sent Charlotte blushing up a storm. The French woman struggled to reply to the hybrid. "I-Uh…. thank you, dear."

The woman's cute display of genuine embarrassment got a chuckle out of Elliot. He let his children down and gave them a look. "Kids, go to the kitchen and wait for us. I need to speak with your mother."

"" Yes daddy.""

The children padded back into the kitchen, leaving both Elliot and Charlotte in the expansive living room. Tranquil silence filled the room that hung for a moment before it was broken by Charlotte.

"Cheriè? Is something wrong?"

Elliot said nothing. The hybrid simply wrapped his arms around his wife and pulled her in for a hug. A deep sigh that carried fatigue and relief escaped him as he sank into the embrace.

"Oh nothing…. just want to let my beautiful wife know how much I appreciate her."

"Mon dieu, tu es tellement un séducteur habile..."

The chiding statement in Charlotte's native tongue served to make Elliot smirk. It being punctuated by her mellifluous accent alongside her breathy tone only made it sounded more like a compliment than anything else.

The couple enjoyed the embrace in silence, basking in their other half's presence. The obligations from life kept them busy, so to be able to savor a brief moment in each other's arms was a reward to the hybrid.

Pulling back, Elliot could see the emotions portrayed within Charlotte's lilac eyes. Admiration and deep love borne from their shared experiences was still burning as strongly as all those years ago in the Academy. His hand came up to caress his wife's cheek before bringing his lips ever so close, slowly getting closer until…

"Daddy! Mommy! The cookies are done! Hurry up!"

The intimate atmosphere that enveloped them shattered under the exuberant voice of their daughter. The two adults pulled away from the embrace with varying responses.

A bemused chuckle came from the French woman, "Oh well, let's save this for another time. Come on, let's see what the children are up to."

Charlotte turned to enter the kitchen. Before she could take a few steps, her wrist was grabbed by Elliot and she found herself gently pulled back, forcing her to turn around.

"Elliot? Wha-!"

The hybrid left her no room to ponder. Elliot pressed a quick kiss on her lips, pulling away with a mischievous grin that left her flabbergasted.

"Why put off what you can do now? Now let's go see what's the result of your baking. I'll start working on dinner."

Charlotte gaped, then she started thumping her fists at Elliot's chest. Embarrassment and nerves made Charlotte peeved at her husband for pulling such a dangerous move to her heart.

"Espèce d'idiot! Ne fais pas quelque chose d'aussi embarrassant comme ça!"

A laugh poured out of Elliot as he tried to calm Charlotte down. Eventually he succeeded and his wife soon settled down. A peeved pout came from the woman who was none too pleased at the shock her husband had subjected to.

"I'm not making you dinner for that."

Elliot simply shrugged, not too bothered by the punishment.

"That's why I've the one making dinner today. Let's go."

The two pilots came together and entered the kitchen hand in hand, to see their children watching the oven excitedly for the finished confectionaries.

"Alright kids! Let's see what's the results are!"

Elliot wrapped his hand with a cloth before pulling out the tray in the oven. The family of four happily spent the time approaching into night savoring the baked cookies and a sumptuous dinner around the table.

Plain as it may be to many, the time spent amongst family was something Elliot wouldn't trade for anything. He sincerely hoped that such a time would still be around for years to come as his children grew up.

Author's note: Hello again everyone! Sorry for the long silence since the last posting. RL's been taking its toll and that leaves very little time to write. Rest assured that the main story is still in the works but taking a much slower pace since there's a lot to change in the current chapter and I want to make sure everything's good. In the meantime, have some of the side stories that had been bouncing around in my head.

Thanks to a reader here, Kurenai lui for the inspiration. They outlined what they thought about possible pairing and they came up with reasons with the Elliot x Charlotte pairing. To be honest, I've never thought about Charlotte being underrepresented in my story since there's been a lot of fanfics posted about Charlotte and she's considered one of the most popular character in the OG story. I don't think there's anything I could do different to make her anymore popular but since there's a demand for the ship, I'd gladly oblige. So here's a side story for the ship.

There's two more side story featuring each of the heroines that you guys suggested as Elliot's potential partner. They'll be posted together with this one as a bonus. Think of it as my way of apologizing for the long time away. I hope you all would enjoy them just as much as I had writing them.

There's a few French sentences in here. For those of you who are French, don't crucify me if there's any mistake. Blame OpenAI and ChatGPT for it.

Have a good one, you guys. OtherJAckK out!
