Tony looked at the bottle of wine and the two glasses on the table. There was still some left and it would be a shame for it to go to waste so maybe he should pour them both another glass and take it into the living room where she was. But was that really the right thing to do? After all she was his boss and you don't have a glass of wine with your boss. Of course they almost had an intimate dinner together-well only because Mitch had been stuck in Boston due to fog and Robere-Roberto-Bob-Bobby had guilted him into staying and keeping her company. Maybe he should just go for it. They had already told each other their most embarrassing dating moments and played basketball together. In a way it felt like they had become a little bit closer. He could still see her smiling and hear her laughter. So then why not? He poured them both a glass and went back into the living room. She looked up when he entered the room. He was holding two glasses of wine and walked over to the front of the couch. He sat down beside her and handed her one of the glasses.
"So there was some wine left and I hated to see it going to waste." He said hoping the explanation would be enough.
"Yeah, we certainly wouldn't want that.' She smiled.
They took a sip of their wine
"Good wine." She said.
"It is. You have great taste."
"Thank you."
They were both silent for a few moments contemplating what a bizarre and yet intriguing evening they had spent together all because of fog.
"So some evening huh? I mean compared to going bowling."
'It was and I'm still sorry about that."
"Hey come on, it wasn't your fault. I mean it wasn't like you planned for Mitch to be stuck in Boston or for Robere to be so manipulative. "
She laughed. "Yeah, he certainly was. But I think in his own obnoxious way he was only trying to help."
He nodded. "Yeah, especially since he thought we had a lover's quarrel." He chuckled.
She shook her head. "Yeah. and no matter how many times I told you to go he wouldn't let up."
"Well you know it is always our fault!" He grinned at her.
"Mother wouldn't certainly agree with that."
He raised an eyebrow. 'She would?"
"Let me tell you something about my Mother. Nothing is ever her fault."
"I'll keep that in mind. But come on she had to have said she was wrong at one time or the other."
She shook her head. 'If she ever did it would only be for a very good and special reason."
"Well I have to admit I'm the same way. It is very hard for me to say I'm wrong."
"At least you acknowledge it. Like when you said you were wrong about Grant."
"Okay, yeah I was wrong. But let me tell ya something. If he had been attacking you he would have walked away limping."
"He would have?"
"Yeah, I won't sit back and let anyone insult or manhandle you."
"Because I'm your boss."
"No, it isn't just that. I would do the same for Mona or any woman. But it was like I said to Professor Morrel. You're good people."
Angela grimaced at her name. "That certainly wasn't a highlight in my life. I mean you seeing me naked and her lewd comments."
"She was way out of line. It was then I knew I couldn't go out with her."
"Well thanks again. I guess this is the second time I ruined one of your dates."
"What date? I was going bowling!"
She smirked. "Come on Tony. You were wearing a suit and aftershave. You mean to tell me you were going bowling with the guys?!"
"Okay, I wasn't going bowling. In fact since we're being honest I had actually invited her here."
"You did?"
"Well yeah, you said it was okay."
'Oh sure it is. "
"And you all were supposed to be gone but when you told me you were staying I panicked."
"Well since we're being honest. I actually had made dinner reservations at Chez Rene."
'You did? Why didn't you go there then?"
"My Mother."
"Mona?"
"Yeah, she convinced me to stop being a big shot executive for one night and instead be a homebody."
"Ah, I get it. A homebody."
"But, I don't think she expected it would be you I would end up spending the evening with. Well not the whole evening."
"I get it. I get it."
"In fact I think she would find it all very amusing. Once she got over the shock of course."
"So then maybe we should just keep this between us then huh?"
"I think that is a very good idea."
"But, hey no problem there's always another chance for a date with Tonya."
"Well I hope you do. It would make me feel better."
"Angela, come on! I said it wasn't your fault. Things just happened. I mean Mitch canceling because of fog, and Robere convincing me to stay. It wasn't like you planned any of this."
"I know. But it was still nice of you to stay and keep me company."
"Well hey you're the boss and good people."
She blushed and her face got as red as her dress.
He noticed and took a long swallow of his wine.
"So.."
"So.."
"Please ladies first."
"So how do you think Mother and the kids are doing?"
"Well I think the kids are having a ball and Mona is wondering what she got herself into." He laughed.
"I hope and think you're right. I know Jonathan was disappointed about letting Wilbur go-and thank you again for convincing him- but I hope he is having a good time regardless."
"Well hey as I said: BORN FREE!"
"I just hope he doesn't come home with a new pet."
"You think he will?"
She scoffed. "I know my son. He probably already found one."
"You're not big on animals are ya?"
"Well, I don't hate them. I think some are cute like puppies and kittens. But animals like snakes and lizards? " She shuddered.
"So then where did he get his love for creepy crawly things?"
"His Dad."
"Ah, I see."
She didn't want to say anything more about Michael so she quickly changed the subject.
"So tell me about Tonya."
"You want to know about Tonya?"
"Well why not? Did you go to high school together?"
"Yeah, we did."
"So you dated?"
"We went out a few times but then I met Marie."
"Your wife."
'Yeah, and we got serious and then got married." His voice trailed off.
"I'm sorry Tony."
"Thanks. But hey you know how it feels."
"I do?"
'Well yeah, you said your husband left you."
"Oh yeah. But that's a little different than your wife dying."
He nodded.
The mood took on a melancholy tone. After a few moments he clapped his hands.
"Hey enough of this gloom and doom."
"You're right."
"So anymore embarrassing moments you care to share?" He grinned.
"Oh, I don't think you realize what you are asking."
"Oh really? Well this sounds intriguing."
No, it's late but I'll tell you sometime."
"Okay then. It's a date." He realized what he said and backpedaled. "I don't mean a date."
"I know."
She set her wineglass down
"I'm going to go to bed now. Unless you need any help?"
"Oh no. Go on, I have everything under control."
"Okay." She walked to the staircase and turned around.
"Tony?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you. For everything."
"Anytime Boss."
