So heyyyy yeah new Pokemon fic. So I know I have Total Chaos, but after some thinking, I realize that Sifics arent for me, I like reading them but actually writing them, with the protag knowing what was going to happen, yeah that was hard. I bow to people who can write that stuff. So after some thinking I decided to write a new Pokemon fic, an alternative world where Ash begins her journey a year early, kinda with how Paldea works kids can start a year early than ten, since Poopy the elite four is nine...and I thought it would be funny that when she goes back to Kanto she would already be a Champion Rank Trainer, I think that would be funny and hilarious with her rivalry with Gary.
Also warning for Gary bashing in later fics, and even Professor Oak bashing cause we got a better grandpa figure in Clive I mean Clavell! Anyway I hope you all enjoy this, please leave a comment!
Taking a deep breath, a young child sat down on a chair. The child bites at her lips, swinging her legs back and forth before she grabs the mouse of her computer opening the email.
A video begins to play, joyful music sounding from the speakers as a picture of a castle appeared on screen, the words Naranja Academy appeared on the screen.
"Taking lessons from tradition-growing stronger and greater!" The video flashed with various scenes. Some students sitting at their desks listening as a teacher lecture about something on a board. A group of students crowding around a table as another teacher lifts up an old fashioned pokeball and then that of a statue of an old man in what looked like a library.
"It's time for you too- dive into the world of Pokémon!" A pokeball was thrown into the air, aiming right at the sun before the video turns into an office, where a man wearing an orange suit sat behind a desk doing some paperwork. He looks up, his gray eyes blinking, "ah! It's started!" He coughs behind his hand and stands up, "my apologizes Miss Ketchum, I am not use to the modern day technology that is used these days. Now allow me, Director Clavell, welcome you to Naranja Academy and Paldea as a whole! Paldea is a sprawling region bustling with lush nature and magnificent landscapes! It is also of course," the man lifts up a Pokeball, "home to the mysterious creatures known to us as Pokemon. They reside here in great numbers in fact," the man throws the pokeball, releasing a small orange mouse like Pokemon with a tuft of fur on its head and yellow cheeks. It scoters along the floor, before leaping up to cling to the man's shoulder.
"Pokemon can be found living all over: in the seas, in the skies-even in our cities and towns. We humans coexist with Pokémon, as we both help one another live and thrive. Naranja Academy is here to help you learn even more about these precious partners. Within our halls, people from all regions gather here to study together. And as Pokémon trainers, they have their Pokémon do battles, growing alongside them while our robust curriculum coursework helps our students draw forth their fullest potential! It is within these halls that you will find your friends, your Pokémon and your true self. We the faculty and the staff at Naranja Academy can't wait to welcome you with open arms,"
The video died down as it turns off, and red eyes blink, "well… that was informative," she whispers as she pushes herself out of the chair. Heading to the mirror she frowns as she stares at her reflection. She was wearing a white button up shirt, with an orange tie wrap around her neck which matched the orange shorts with yellow stripes. Her rubs her hair through her short black hair, a frown on her face as she headed down the stairs from her loft, "Mom! I look ridiculous!"
"Nonsense Ash!" Her mother, a beautiful woman with brown hair tied up in a ponytail with her bangs framing her face. She wore a pink shawl over a yellow shirt and blue skirt that went to her knees. Like her daughter she had red eyes which gaze at her daughter sadly. "I think you look adorable,"
"Mom," Ash whines, "me looking adorable isn't going to help. Why did dad have to choose not only the fanciest school in all the regions but the farthest region of all!" She pouts crossing her arms, "
Delia sighs, closing her eyes. Her daughter has been complaining about this all Summer, when at the end of her last year it was discovered how bullied she was.
Pallet Town of Kanto was small, the only reason it was on the map was because of it being the hometown of Professor Oak. He brought fame and glory to the small village when he and his Charizard fought against Agatha and her Gengar in the finals of the Indigo Cup, and then facing off against the then Elite Four, and even becoming Champion of Kanto. So when he retired from being Champion, giving the title of Lance Blackthorn and settling down to create his Pokemon Research lab. Though because of his history in the line of working with Pokémon many eyes are still on him, him and his family. In Delilah's generation it was Professor Oak's son, Edward Oak who everyone had praise and spoke highly of. But he was a few years older than her and thus she didn't feel the scorns of the adult who felt like it was idiotic to go against those with the blood of Samuel Oak in them.
Her daughter was not that lucky. Ash was around the same age as Edward's son, Gary, the two even sharing the same class. Unfortunately unlike his father, Gary has gotten it into his head because of who his grandfather is that no one could ever stand up to him and that everyone should just give up. Her daughter didn't like that, for she wanted to be a Pokémon Trainer as soon as she was old enough to understand what a trainer was. So when she didn't bow her head to the young Oak, Gary made it his goal to make life hell for the girl until she gave up.
To stealing her homework, to tripping her in the halls, to even accuse her of cheating, he did everything in his power to make her fail. The teachers were no help either, for they believed Gary over some no name girl who they believe wouldn't accomplish anything.
It all came to head during the last day of school when they got the scores to their finals. Her brilliant daughter had gotten a higher score than Gary and he did not take it well. A screaming match erupted between the two, Gary accusing her of cheating as there was no way she could had beat him and her saying she didn't. It ended with Gary pushing her which wouldn't had ended so badly if she hadn't been standing atop of the stairs. Luckily for everyone, it only had gain her a broken arm but parents were called. Gary and the teachers had thought that things would be pushed under the rug, but Delia at the time was dealing with rush hour at her restaurant and so Ash's father was called.
Everyone in Pallet knew that Delia and Ash's father were not married, they had met in their young adult lives and decided to have some flings together but they were never officially together. Many had thought that meant that Ash's father was some no name who wasn't in their lives, so the headmaster had not been expecting the Earth Master Giovanni Sakaki to walk into his office. Which of course led to a screaming match between him and Gary's mother, Hera. In the end, the Oaks and the Academy had to pay a heavy fine unless they wanted to get sued and Ash had been pulled from said Academy.
Delia had not taken kindly to Giovanni doing so without her jurisdiction, but he had pointed out that he had allowed her to make every choice for their daughter and he had respectfully take a step back unless Ash had called him for advice.
"I know you are upset and angry at me for taking her out of Little Start Academy but she needs a place to thrive, Delia. Even now with the knowledge of me being her father they will keep all their attention on the Oak brat and I don't want that for her. Let me get her accepted at the school that I went to when I was growing up. It's only for one year, and that one year will make a great difference when she goes on her journey next year."
With those reasons, she had relented and had agreed to enroll Ash into Naranja Academy, in Paldea. Luckily they didn't have to buy a whole new house, using one of Giovanni's vacation homes. The only problem was that Ash did not take the news kindly. She thought it made her look like she was running away, though that wasn't the truth at all.
"Though I do hope Gary grows up a bit while we're here," she thinks to herself opening her mouth but stops when Persian walks over.
Ash stares at her dad's starter, giggling when Persian nuzzles her cheek. Wrapping her arms around her neck, she looks up when she felt a hand rubbing against her head and looks up to see her dad staring down at her, "Seems like you are already in your uniform and everything," he mutters, a soft smile on his face. "I know you don't like all of this Ashlyn," Ash frowns at the use of her full name, pouting at him, "But its only your first day, try to give it a chance. You don't know but you may like the Academy here,"
Ash sighs, shoulders slump at this, "Alright…but I still think I look dumb in this thing,"
"Between you and me," her dad whispers, "I hated the uniform as well," he then looks over to mom, "The school contacted me. Ashlyn will be staying here a bit longer. Apparently there's something very important for her first day that hasn't arrived,"
At that moment, the doorbell rang, and mom smiles, "Maybe that's the very important thing we're waiting for. Ash, get the door would you,"
"Okay, mom!" Ash smiles running to said door. Grabbing the door handle, she swung it open, looking up at the old man that had been on her introduction video. He had white hair and a goatee, matching with the white glasses that he pushed up on the bridge of his nose. He wore the same orange blazer with six Premier Pokeballs attached, over a black collared button shirt. He also wore white pants and shoes to complete the outfit, "Hello…Director Clavell?"
He smiles, "That is correct. Do forgive the intrusion. You are, Miss Ashlyn, correct?"
"Ash," she corrected, rubbing the back of her neck, "Only dad calls me Ashlyn…and my mom but that's when I'm in trouble,"
"Yes," the Director laughs, "Miss Ash, on the behalf of the academy, I must apologize for the late arrival of your enrollment documents. May I come in?"
Ash nods her head, stepping aside to allow the Director to step inside. Her parents walked over, approaching the Director. Clavell stares at her dad for a bit, his grey eyes meeting her dad's black eyes before he sighs, "Master Sakai, Miss Ketchum, I have come with the final documents," he holds out the packet file, Ash's mom taking them.
"I will admit it is slightly concerning," her dad remarked, "that it took the day my daughter was to start attending the academy to receive these,"
"And I completely understand that Master Sakai," Director Clavell sighs, "Due to circumstances that the Director before me refuses to tell me, the whole academy has been going through an extreme staff restructuring. In fact, the only Professors still working at the Academy are Professor Jacq and Professor Hassel, everyone else were all hired during the summer. This is in fact my first year as Director, but rest assured those who have been hired are of the most excellent quality. However, because of these changes many things behind the scenes were delayed, such as Miss Ash's enrollment documents,"
Her mother nodded her head looking worried, "But other than that, Miss Ash's enrollment had no more problems. From her placement tests I must admit I'm surprised with how Little Start treated her. She is clearly a very bright child," Ash saw her mom's gaze soften at this and her dad's smirk of pride, "that is why we decided to place her in Class 1-A, most of the children in there are around the age of 13 with a few 10 years old but we think she will not only be able to handle it but thrive," he then turns his gaze to Ash, "Now then, I think it's time to go to the main reason I came to your residence,"
Ash blinks, "There's another reason Director,"
"Please, just Mr. Clavell, Miss Ash," he smiles at her as Ash nods her head, "and yes there is another reason why beside bringing your documents to your parents. A most important thing," Ash blinks at this, looking to her parents who smile with amusement, "But the inside of your house is hardly the place for it. Would you come outside?"
Nodding her head, she follows the Director outside, hardly hearing her mom's call to grab her hat and bag. She watches as Mr. Clavell takes several steps outside before turning to the daughter and father. Ash watches as he takes out three Pokeballs out of a pocket from his blazer her eyes widening as he tosses them in the air, "Time to come out of your Pokeballs, dear Pokemon,"
Ash's mouth drops open as she stares at the three Pokemon that stood before her. The one on the left was a green cat, blinking up at her with pink eyes before it turns its head up, looking at her snooty as it curls its fluffy tail around its front paws. The one on the right was a white feather ducking, with teal webbed feet that matches the large teal coif-like crest that covered its head. It shakes it head, smoothing its feathers against its crest before stepping a bit closer to the Director, eyeing Ash's dad fearfully. The one in the middle was a bipedal crocodilian with a mostly red body and a white stomach and face. Two yellow tufts were on top of its head. It had three teeth poking out of its jaw, one in the middle of its and two on the lower jaw. Its little black eyes stares at Ash before it crawls towards her, wrapping its stubby arms around her leg.
Ash couldn't help but giggle, her red eyes wide, "These…these are Pokemon,"
"That's correct. The academy provides each student who enters its hall a Pokemon of their own,"
Ash's head snaps up, "What…really?! But…but I'm 9! In Kanto we don't get our first Pokemon until we're 10!"
"Well here in Paldea there is no such…limit," Director Clavell remarked, pushing his glasses up, "We figure as long as a child is under a guidance of an adult, and given help, that they can have a Pokemon. I'll ask you to choose which among these three you'd like to have as your partner. The one on the left is Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokemon," Sprigatito goes to lick its paw, ignoring Ash. "The one hugging your leg is Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokemon," Fuecoco rumbles, nuzzling her leg and Ash couldn't help but realize its scales were warm. "And the one besides me is Quaxly, the Duckling Pokemon," Quaxly shivers, hiding behind the Director's leg.
"This is amazing," Ash whispers, "I mean…I have been thinking of what starter I had wanted…but I was thinking I would have Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle to choose from," and she had done her research on those three Pokemon since she was six. Bulbasaur was a fierce little Pokemon, who could learn all three of the specialize spore attacks easily: Poison Powder, Sleep Powder and Stun Spore. Which made capturing wild Pokemon easily. When it evolves into Ivysaur and then Venusaur, those spore attacks did great for it as it loses its speed, using them and its vines to strike at their opponents, and give it time to charge its more powerful attacks such as Solar Beam.
Squirtle was more on the defensive side of the Kanto Trio, its shell getting stronger and stronger each time it evolved. When Blastoise hides in its shell it could easily withstand a Thunder Attack, its shell nigh impenetrable. Also while the defensive shell was the main prize for any Trainer who chooses Squirtle, it can still do great damage with not only its water attacks but its hard skull and crushing bite that could break bones if it wanted too. But Ash always knew she would never get a Squirtle, even at a young age of four Gary had laid claim to Squirtle.
The fire type Charmander, was a backhanded sword of the Kanto Trio. Many wanted to choose it as their Starter, seeing the way Champion Lance commanded his Charizaed. But while the Charmander line is a fire-type, gaining the secondary flying type once it evolves into a Charizard, it still has dragon type blood in its veins. Many trainers are frightened and confused when their Chameleons stop listening to them, as with each evolution that blood awakens in them, making them never back down from a challenge, even against an opponent with a type advantage. With its sharp claws and intestines flames, it could pull a victory with the odds against them.
"How am I going to choose," Ash whispers even though her eyes flick to Fuecoco, who was still clinging to her leg.
"Well take your time," Mr. Clavell gently said, "There is no need to rush. And while I do wish I could stay and see which one you'll chose, I must be off to my next house visit," Ash looks up, watching as he turns his gaze down to the house across from them, "I'll be at the house just over there. Once you have made your decision, come find me," he nods his head at her dad, "Now if you'll excuse me. Until next time we meet,"
Ash pays no mind to the Director as he leaves, watching the three Pokemon. Sprigatito was still ignoring her while Quaxly quacks, waddling a bit after him before his shoulders slump and he quacks sadly. Fuecoco chirps as Ash gently pulls it off her leg, but cradles it in her arms. "I knew the Academy had courses on Pokemon battling…but I didn't know I'll be able to have my own Starter now!" she then meeps as a hat was placed on her head, turning around to see her mom smiling, holding her brown school bag in hand.
"Well…your father and I wanted to keep this a secret," her mom smiles, helping her place her bag on, "Now…I made sure to pack everything you needed. You'll be staying in the school dorms," her eyes water, at the thought of her daughter leaving home a year early but she shakes her head, "I want you to promise me that you eat healthy, and not forget to eat because your distracted on Pokemon training…and not to just gorge on sweets, though I did pack you a sandwich, its a bit of a walk to the city where the Academy is…oh and remember to call us on your Rotom Phone, you got it with you right?"
"Yes mom! I do!" Ash pulls out the red case Rotom Phone from her pocket, holding it out for her parents to see, "And I promise to call you each night,"
"Good," her dad stated before he kneels down, "Study hard, Ashlyn, and don't hold yourself back. While you have taken your mother's last name you still have the Sakai blood running in your veins, so I expect you to work hard," Ash gulps at this but her dad then gives her one of his rare but kind smiles, "But I expect you to have fun, to enjoy yourself and not stress yourself. Whatever choice you make, whatever you want to do in your life, there is no wrong answer,"
Ash smiles, setting Fuecoco down before wrapping her arms around him. She felt her dad stiffen before he returns the hug, holding her close. The two were like that a bit before they pulled apart, Ash smiling brightly while her dad coughs, "Now…I suggest you go meet Director Clavell down the road, the opportunity might give you an idea on who you want as a Starter."
"Right," Ash nods her head, smiling at her parents, and whips around to start walking. But she squeaks as she spots the Quaxly walking down the road, its feathers poof up, "Quaxly! Wait!" Ash bounded after the little duck, Fuecoco chirp trotting after her while Sprigatito sighs rolling its eyes as it follows them in a slow pace.
A few minutes, Ash was panting as she clutches her knees, breathing in deeply. Looking up she glares as Quaxly splashes in the small pond, the little duck not listening to her once to slow down. "This walk was so I could get to know you guys," she whispers, sighing when Sprigatito walks right by her, ignoring her to sniff at the flowers. Only Fuecoco stood by her, nuzzling her leg. Sighing she looks up when she hears a chuckle, Sprigatio mewing happily and running up to a girl who looked about the age of 14 with long black hair that was mostly tied in a ponytail, though three bangs stuck out, the two larger ones being green. She had large, angular orange eyes that shone with curiosity at Ash. She wore the same uniform as Ash, a white tinted blue shirt with orange shorts which she wore black leggings underneath. She wore a magenta arm brace on her right arm, that covers her knuckles and stop halfway up her forearm.
Ash watches as she bends down, petting Sprigatito's head, "Hey Sprig! What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with Mr. Clavell?" she turns to Ash, "Unless you're these three's trainer now," she laughs when Sprigatito mews in annoyance, bapping at her face.
"No," Ash shakes her head, "They're not mine…well one of them will be. Mr. Clavell told me to choose and and I thought that I could get an idea on who I want as a Starter if we walk together…but Quaxly had other ideas,"
"Not surprising," the girl chuckles, turning her gaze to the duck who was now splashing in the small fountain, "I help the Director care for these little guys during the summer so I know how wild they can be," she then blinks, "Wait…choosing…are you that new girl that moved up the road? Mr. Clavell told me that these three were going to be for a new student from the Kanto Region, you're them aren't you?"
Ash nods her head, "Yeah…I'm Ash Kectum, I'm from Pallet Town,"
"Buenas! Nice to meet ya Ash!" the girl grins, almost as wide as Ash's own smiles, "I'm Nemona Luis,"
"I must say, I wasn't expecting you so soon Miss Ash," the two girls turn to see Mr. Clavell walking towards them from the huge mansion, "It seems you have met Miss Nemona. She will be in the same class as you, Class 1-A. She's not only the student council president but also a Champion Rank Trainer, one of Naranja's best students. If you need any guidance come to her,"
Nemona smiles, a light blush on her face, "Aw…Director you're making me blush…anyway," she shakes her head,, "Normally I live in the school dorms, but during the holidays, home is here…whaddya say, new neighbor-wanna be friends?"
Ash blinks at this, eyes widening before she shyly nods her head, "S-sure!"
Pneumonia smiles, slapping her hand onto Ash's shoulder and making her squeak, "Love that enthusiasm! We're going to get along just fine!"
Mr. Clavell chuckles, "On that note, Miss Ash," Ash turns to him, "Have you decided which of these Pokemon you would like to be your first Pokemon?"
Ash frowns, staring at the three Pokemon that stood in a line before her. Quaxly kept turning its gaze to the Director, before turning back to Ash with fear in his blue eyes. She couldn't help but frown at that, "If I chose Quaxly, I don't think we would ever get along. It has too much of a connection to Mr. Clavell…it might not even listen to me at all," Ash thought before turning her head to Sprigatito. She had thought of choosing Bulbasaur when she thought of having a Starter, since Grass Type Pokemon have an advantage against Water Type Pokemon like the Squirtle that Gary would choose. And it was a cat Pokemon, it would be funny if she chose a cat Pokemon since her dad's Starter was a Persian. But seeing the sneer on its face, the fur on its spine rising up, Ash grimaces, shaking her head. She then turns to Fuecoco, who was hopping up and down, waving its little arms. Ash couldn't help but laugh, walking up to it and scooping it up, "I chose Fuecoco, Mr. Clavell,"
"That's a good choice!" Nemona smiles, watching as Fuecoco crawls up onto Ash's shoulder, "The burning hot sparks it scatters will fry any and all plants in a flash!"
"Fuecoco seems to have taken quite a liking to you Miss Ash," Mr. Clavell remarked with a smile, "As this is your first Pokemon, make sure you raise him with love and care. And of course, be sure to keep him tucked away safely in his Pokeball when needed," he advise, handing Ash Fuecoco's Pokeball, which she accepted with a smile, "Also a reminder that you can give him a name if you wish to,"
"A name," Ash whispers, turning to Fuecoco who blinks at her. She then began to run through a list of names that she thought match good for a fire typ;es, going through about a dozen which made Nemona and Mr. Clavell laugh before she finally found one that Fuecoco liked, "How about Apollo? He was not only a god of the sun but music…"
Fuecoc trills happily, nodding his head and making Ash laugh, "Alright then, Apollo it is,"
"You two are going to make such a good combo," Nemona smiles before she looks down as Sprigatito rubs against her legs. Smiling sadly, she looks to Mr. Clavell, "Sir, can I choose one of these Pokemon too?"
Mr. Clavell blinks at this, "Oh…but did you not receive a Pokemon when you enter the academy, Miss Nemona,"
Rubbing the back of her neck, Nemona grimaces, "Not…officially…I entered the Academy last year, when they were doing a change of hands and Director Harrison was busy with his retirement. So my year group last year never got their Starters…so my family allowed me to use their Pokemon so I can do my classes last year…I had to give them back during the summer," she sighs, a flash of pain in her orange eyes, "But, my dad's Pawmot gave me one of her eggs, so I'll be raising a Pawmi again, but it'll be awhile until its strong enough for a real battle when it hatches and…" she smiles weakly, faltering to a stop as she bends down and picks up Sprigatito, "I kinda bonded to this little guy when I help you and Mr. Jacq raised these three during the summer…" Nemona blinks as Mr. Clavell chuckles.
"I think this is a splendid idea, and I wouldn't dare break a bond that I can see has grown between you and Sprigatito, Miss Nemona. But still my deepest apologies to the transgression that you and your fellow yearmates went through last year…" he frowns, "Do they need Starters as well?"
Nemona shakes her head, "No, Mr. Jacq gave those who didn't have a Starter Pokemon that Trainers didn't really want. Its kinda a problem that the Professors in the Regions are realizing their having, for Trainers who want to complete the Pokedex, they have to catch Pokemon but that just crowds the corrals that the Professors have …I think they're planning on updating the Pokedex to just have a scan feature," she scratches at Sprigatio behind the ear, making the cat mew and purr, "Though it gave Mr. Jacq plenty of Pokemon to give out to the new first years… its just that my parents…they didn't want me to have a random Pokemon as a Starter…not good enough for someone of my standards," she rolls her orange eyes, annoyance shining in them. But then she breaks out a smile, "But anyway…you here that little one? You and I are going to be a team Spirgatito?"
For once a small smile grew on Sprigatito's face instead of the leer. It purrs, nuzzling its face against Nemona's cheeks making the older girl laugh, "Alright! Alright that tickles, little guy!" she scratches at his chin, "also…what do you think of the name Masquerade? I think it would suit you, especially when you evolve into your final stage," Sprigatito puffs out his chest, pride filling his pink eyes at the name.
"Alright then," Ash blinks as Nemona turns to her, "Now that we both have a Pokemon, there is only one thing left to do!" she grins, taking a step close to Ash so suddenly that it made the younger girl quickly stepped away with wide eyes, "You and I should have a battle,"
Ash's mouth drops open, staring with wide eyes, before she flickers them at Mr. Clavell who nods his head. Then a wide grin grows on Ash's face, giddiness welling up inside her as excitement pulse in her, "Yes!" her red eyes burn with passion and glee at the thought of having an actual Pokemon battle, "Yes please!"
Ash's Pokemon- Apollo (Fuecoco)
Nemona's Pokemon- Masquerade (Sprigatito), Pawmi Egg
