Chapter Two: Sacrifices for a Savior
The night Ciel and her brother had been taken will always be engrained in her memory. Her brother had grabbed her hand and ran with her in tow. Ciel remembered the blood of the servants. Their bodies, mutilated beyond recognition. The twins ran to the family room in hopes of finding their parents. Instead what they found was forever burned in her brain. Their mother, and their father. Even Sebastian. All lay in a puddle of their blood. Their throats slit. Her mother had blood and torn skin under her nails once pristine nails from where she tried to pry off her attacker. Her father's knuckles were bruised and bloodied. Sebastian, the poor thing had gone out trying to protect his family. Forever loyal to the end. Sirius quickly pulled his sister away from the sight. Desperately trying to find someone. Anyone that could save them. As they ran down the hallway Ciel spotted Tanaka's grey hair. The twins cried out for him. The elderly man ran to the Phantomhive twins. Pleading for them to hide quickly and to be silent. He quickly led them to the drawing room, but before he could shut the door to hide the children away he fell to the ground. "Tanaka!" she had steamed for him, but he never woke up. Sirius held his sister close. A man stepped into their view. He smiled as he spotted the children. "Hello little ones`" He reached for the children slowly in a poor attempt to not frighten them "Where are your parents-"
Right as he made a grab for them Sirius bolted, still holding his sister in tow. Ciel remembered hearing the man curse them. As they continued to run down the halls, smoke began to waft in the air, filling their lungs. She felt her lungs grow tighter. Her lungs desperately cried out for air but her coughing would let her take it as the smoke intruded their senses. She felt her legs growing weaker. Her brother was yelling for her to just hang on a moment longer. That they would be fine. Everything was going to work out. They were so close to the door. To escape from the smoke and the bloodied bodies. To fresh air so she could breathe with ease. y she had to do was hold on a little bit longer. Sirius spotted the door at last and about cried in relief, but those joyful tears could wait just a moment longer. Sirius pushed the doors open with his free hand. The twins ran out to the yard. Sirius and Ciel collapsed on the grass, Ciel welcomed the fresh air after her coughing got into control. The twins looked at each other. Taking in their disheveled appearance. Covered in cuts and bruises, soot and ash from the smoke and flames covered them. The children turned to their family home and watched in horror as the manor was engulfed in flames. She still sees that horrible sight every night she goes to sleep. But she knows she'll remember the feel of large hands grabbing her and her brother. The Phantomhinve twins quickly learned that night that their escape from the flames had only led to their enslavement.
They had been thrown into a cage that same night. Covered in dirt and grime. Sirius held Ciel close. They never saw their faces. The men and women who had taken them always wore masks that obscured their faces. The twins always tried to stay in the far corner of their cage, a desperate attempt to protect themselves from the cult's dirty hands. Ciel for the first time in her life felt helpless, before though she had been weak she had her family to keep her safe. But there was only so much a child could do to protect another. They had grabbed her first. They laughed as Sirues tried to pull her back to him but they quickly shoved him back, a sick promise of his turn would come soon enough. They had laid her on an altar that night. She still remembers the sight of the brand. The smell of the hot iron. A woman shushed her gently like a mother would to calm a child, running her hands through her matted hair. As a man held her down to keep her from squirming. The pain. Her words could not describe that pain as that cursed brand met the pale flesh on her side. Searing into her. The smell of her own skin being burned. Ciel screamed. She cried. Her tears were now in control. She cried and wailed until she could do so no more. Her voice gave out. That awful smell was still there long after the brand had been placed.
After they were done, branding her like cattle. Ciel always tried to forget what happened next. She felt if she remembered those awful things she would truly lose what little sanity she still had. Hands and touch. She began to despise physical touch. It made her sick to her stomach when she remembered hearing the leader's buckle be undone. And what he did next.
She still tried to forget.
Once they had their twisted "fun" they threw her back in the cage with her brother. He tried to comfort but Ciel only flinched and pulled away. She didn't want to be touched anymore.
The next night she was forced to hear the same thing happen to her brother. She hated it.
She hated them. She hated herself for her weakness, she hated she couldn't protect herself and her brother. Their lives had become a living hell. Truly death would have been kinder, but she continues to have faith in her older twin.
Sirius tried to keep them from taking her again. She always would hold onto him when they tried to pull him away from her and place them on that dreaded altar as well. One night as the twins huddled together, Sirius whispered a promise in her ear. One to keep her safe, to escape. To make sure once they got out they would never be hurt again. He hooked his pinkie in her own and smiled brightly. Ciel felt a small pang of jealousy. Even now. When things were at their darkest. Even after the boy in the cage next to them died those awful men dragged his body away as if the little boy's death was nothing more than an inconvenience. He still smiled at her. Despite his tried to stay positive for her sake because she was scared that she would join that little boy next. He had pulled her hands away from the bars. Taking her hands in his own promising to protect her. Sirius had never lied to her before. So she believed him. They would get out of this nightmare alive. They would go home. They would play games and eat sweets. Their parents might have been gone now but they were still Phantomhives. In time they would always return to their home like faithful watchdog
That same night. For the first time in who knows how long Ciel and Sirias hugged each other tightly, curling up in a ball in the hope to shield the other from any harm. That was the same night Ciel prayed like she had been doing ever since this nightmare began. She prayed to God, to his angels. She prayed to the heavens desperately for someone to find them and bring them home, but the heavens never seemed to hear her pleas. She and her brother were in hell. She begged for an answer of some kind. What could they have done to deserve this? Had they not been punished enough? Ciel held onto her brother tightly. Hoping with all her heart and soul someone would save them both.
The next night she realized that not only had her prayers for help been ignored, but that cult had turned her brother into a liar.
This night was different than the others. As the leader spoke, he spoke of offerings, how the destinies time had come and high glories lamb would be the first to offer to their king. They listened to that dreaded metal creek as their cage was swung open. They had chosen. It was a meaningless, pointless, and ruthless choice. She tried. She had tried desperately to hang on to her brother. Her nails digging into her brother's flesh. Trying with all her might to keep him close but it was no use. She cried and screamed as they took him away. She had begged. Please! Don't!" as she watched helplessly as they once again placed him on that cursed alter outside of the cage. Her brother kicked and screamed, begging them to let them go. She could only watch helplessly as they began their ceremony. Her tiny hands gripped the bars helplessly turning her knuckles white. She'll never forget his words as she watched that damned man raise that cursed knife over his head "Beneath the protection of the moon with its thousand face-" Ciel screamed Someone please save him! Please I'm begging you!" her pleas died on her lips as she watched that knife run through her brother's stomach. The sight of the blood pooling from his now limp body. The flow seemed to never stop. Pooling over her brother's resting place like a vampiric waterfall. The light slowly left his once lively eyes. And enter into a covenant with me!"
In that moment something in her snapped. For the first time in her life, Ciel felt nothing but hatred. Her tears no longer fell She felt it boiling over, it felt like that anger and hatred would never go away.
They took everything. Her mother. Her father. Her brother. Her innocence. Yet they had the audacity to want for more.
Ciel only stared at her brother's body, her grip on her bars loosened and she fell to her knees. She had lost her hope. No one would save them. There was no God. If there was. Why did they not hear her prayers? Why did they not save her? Save her brother. Why would anything that was supposed to save and forgive let this happen to her and her family?
She almost didn't notice the wisp of black smoke filling the ceremonial room with a soft rumble. She didn't care anymore. She just wanted to make them pay for what they had done to her. "All of you." She hissed. They turned to her. "All of you" She repeated. "I'll kill all of you!" She screamed. Her tears were no longer sad, they were angry. All she felt was pure anger and hatred. She didn't notice at first as her brother's blood poured off the altar it began to boil. Bubbling until it swirled into a shapeless cloud of black with many ruby had eyes and pearly white teeth. Ciel's kidnappers and her brother's murderers whispered and murmured in excitement. As it slowly began to take shape into something that was terrifyingly beautiful and approached her. She could hear the gentle click of heels against the stone. She felt something tilt her head gently. All she saw was black, black feathers, black legs, and arms, black healed stilettos shoes. The cultist continued to talk amongst themselves as the creature examined their sacrificial lamb and it spoke. Its voice is hauntingly beautiful Answer me." It whispered "Who has summoned me, in the pursuit of pleasure and wealth? Calamity and tragedy" The creature caressed the child's face like a parent would to comfort a scared child. Ciel subconsciously leaned into its touch, it had reminded her of how her father would comfort her when she had been upset. He would never comfort her again. Those monsters had made sure of that. "Yours is no small sacrifice, so little one. Who is the fool who spits upon God? For a brief moment, Ciel's words were caught in her throat before she finally met its eyes. Ciel stared at ruby red eyes and grabbed its hand gently. One last desperate attempt for salvation.
"Help me." She whispered so softly that it only reached the demon's ears.
It smiled at her. It smiled a wicked grin. Fangs that looked sharp enough to shred flesh apart with ease. She held the thing's hand as tightly as she could. "Please". she begged. The creator's hand slipped away from her frail hands and observed the cult in front of him. One finally approached him. Pathetic praise left his lips. It annoyed him to no end. You are not the one who summoned me." with just a flick of a wrist the man was dead. Ciel could only watch as the blood bath began. She didn't make a peep until it flung a now decapitated body into her cage. She let out a frightened yelp as the woman's body exploded on impact beside her. Her blood splashed on the girl. Covering her dirty shirt and pale skin with it.
Their eyes met. The demon smiled at her "Is this not what you desired little one? To kill them all?"
Ciel slowly backed into the far corner of her cage as it confined to speed to her After all it was you who called me." Ciel shook her head. "No, I...I didn't call for anything like you." She whispered. She watched as it turned into a snake. Wrapping itself around her cage. "No, I'm sure it was you. You are the one who denied the essence of God and cursed this world did you not?" It shifted back to its previous form. Sprawling itself on top of her cage, drumming his claws as if he didn't have a care in the world. Ciel listened to the rhythmic sound as it continued In return for this unfortunate sacrifice you gained the right to have your wish granted." It purred. Ciel's back met those cold bars. "But I didn't-" She paused. Realization dawned her as her eyes slowly turned to the alter. her words barely a whisper. "By sacrifice, you don't mean.." She couldn't bring herself to finish her thought. The demon smirked as she saw her connect the dots. "That's right, the price you paid to summon myself. A demon was none other than the soul of your dear brother."
It turned into a wisp of smoke and reached to the altar. Shifting back she watched as the demon grabbed her brother's head tilting it so his soul's eyes met her own. To give the life of blood one is quite a drastic measure, now I understand how I was summoned.
Ciel watched as it took her brother's body, stood him up, and brought it closer to her Rejoice, Sacrifice, Wish. A contract with all three of these conditions has been fulfilled I will become your servant, working for you until the day your wish is granted and I claim your soul." Ciel let out a choked sob. "You're lying." She whispered. "How could I have sacrificed Sirus's soul" A part of the mist grew turning into a black wolf and approached her. "Unfortunately it is true, if the ferry fee is not paid then I would not be here in the present world right now." Her eyes fell on the blade in her brother's belly. "No. Your lying? I-I didn't sacrifice his soul." She watched his crimson blood continue to drip. She grabbed the bars and screamed. "You're lying!" I didn't want this! I want him back! Give Sirus back!"
He laid Sirius's body back on the altar. and sighed. I was wondering what kind of human you are since you called so loudly for me, But you are nothing more than a baby chick who has yet to pull off the shell from its head."
The demon returned its full attention to her. Turning from a bird to an octopus to a goat. Whether you like it or not little one. You summoned me. That realty will never change for all eternity and consequently, the paid sacrifice will never return, for all eternity." It shifted into a bat, hanging itself from the roof of her cage. Though if you wch for me to disappear, That can also be arranged, after all, you have paid a huge sacrifice after all." He returned to his first form. "But whether you wish to enter a contract and have me grant you a which or not is completely up to you. I have already received the payment for summoning me so as I said it is up to you."
Ciel's thoughts were going a million miles an hour.
The price was paid.
Her brother was dead.
He'll never return.
If she didn't accept his death would be in vain.
No one would be happy she was the one who survived.
Elizabeth would be heartbroken.
Mother and father are gone.
She looked at Sirius's body.
Nobody who would truly listen to her was alive.
If she did this.
If she accepted.
She would never get to see any of them again. Even in death.
But she had already denounced God. And cursed the world and his angles.
Its grin became wider. "Now... Choose."
She looked into the eyes of the demon. Time will never rewind. They're never coming back. She made her design. She promised herself to make the ones who had hurt her family pay. She would not break it. She would not let her brother's sacrifice be in vain. She would never become the person they had wanted her to be. Instead, she was going to become so much worse.
He knew what she decided. "Now, what do you desire, little one?" his velvety voice purred.
"Power, I want power." The demon could taste her anger. The hatred in her soul as she reached for him, her savior once more.
"I want the power to take revenge on everyone who did this to us! To never be weak again!" She grabbed his hand. Her nails dug into his flesh.
"I'll make a deal with you!"
