Down on the Bayou
Note: The next few chapters will be originals, made by yours truly. Characters from one of my favorite anime shows will be appearing in 1 of these chapters.
(Third-Person POV)
*Our story begins in bayous of Louisiana. A thunderstorm was happening in the bayou. Animals were scurrying to find a place to hide. In the river, an egg capsule was floating downstream. Just then, it got caught on the river bank & opened. Two cards came out. Suddenly, lightning hit the card & it started to glow yellow. A Brachyceratops appeared. It roared as lightning flashed across the sky*

(Maya's POV)
*It's been a few weeks since we went to the rainforest. Today, Max's Mom was sitting at the he kitchen table, reading cookbooks & looking worried. Max, Rex, & I noticed & went up to her with Chomp, Ace, & Lulu*
Max: Hey, Mom. What's wrong? You look upset.
Aki: Oh, it's nothing. It's just . . . *she sighed* You know how the annual neighborhood potluck is next weekend?
Maya: Yeah. We know Max has been looking forward to it the most.
Max: Yep! Just thinking about all that delicious food makes my mouth water!
*He started drooling. Rex sighed & I giggled. Always the bottomless pit*
Aki: Well, this year. I wanted to make something different. But the thing is . . . *she motioned to all the cookbooks on the table* I think I've cooked just about everything in every cookbook I have. I don't know what to do.
Rex: Are you sure? Did you really read through all of them?
Aki: Yes. Twice. And I've cooked every single one of them. At this, I don't think we'll be able to go this year.
Max: What!? But Mom, we have to go! We can still go even if we don't bring something.
Aki: I know, honey. But I just don't feel right going without bringing something to share with everyone. *she sighed again* Well, I might as well go do some shopping. Not like it'll make much difference.
*She got up from the table & left the room*
Maya: Poor Mrs. Taylor.
*Max watched his Mom leave. He hated seeing her like this*
*Later, we went to the park to play with our dinosaurs. But Max wasn't really playing. He was just sitting on a bench, looking down. Just then, Zoe ran up to us with Paris*
Zoe: Hey, guys! Are you excited about the potluck? I know I am. My Mom is making -
*I covered her mouth before she could finish*
Maya:*whispering* Shh! Ixnay on the Otluck-Pay.
*She took her hand off my mouth*
Zoe: Why? What's wrong?
*Rex & I pointed at Max, who didn't seem to hear us. Thank goodness*
Rex: Max is upset because his Mom is sad that she can't think of anything to make for the potluck this year.
Zoe: Oh.
*Suddenly, we all heard a familiar beeping sound. Max perked up at it. We all took out our Dino Holders*
Max: Another dinosaur! Let's go!
*We all nodded*
*We all ran to the D-Lab. Reese was already typing away at the computer. On the screen was a picture of the United States of America. A red dot was flashing on it*
Maya: Reese! Where's the dinosaur?
Reese: In Louisiana. Just outside of New Orleans.
Zoe: Hey! Isn't that place known for having some the best food in the world?
Max: Yeah. You're right. Maybe we'll find something for Mom to make there.
Rex: Good idea.
Dr. Spike Taylor: Excellent! *we ran towards the teleporter* Hey, bring me back a Mardi gras mask or some beignets!
Max: Sure, Dad.
*We pressed a button on our Dino Holders & a rainbow light surrounded us*
(Third-Person POV
Reese: Doctor. Mardi gras was three months ago.
Dr. Spike Taylor: What!? No way!
*Meanwhile, on Zeta Point, Dr. Z & Seth were looking at a map of the United States of America, with a blinking red light on it*
Dr. Z: Another dinosaur! Alpha Gang! Get in here on the double!
Ursula, Zander, & Ed:*off-screen* Coming, Doctor!
*They ran into the room & saluted*
Ursula: Present and ready for orders, Dr. Z!
Dr. Z: Excellent! Now listen up! A new dinosaur has appeared in New Orleans, Louisiana. So get moving!
*Ed's eyes started going all sparkly with drool coming out of his mouth*
Ed: Louisiana! Known for the best food in the whole world! Let's go!
*He ran out of the room as fast as his short legs could carry him*
Zander: Whoa. I think that's the fastest I've ever seen him move.
Ursula: I didn't even know he could move that fast.
(Maya's POV)
*In our rainbow light, we appeared in a wooded area with shallow water around them*
Zoe: Whoa. Where are we?
Rex: Looks like we're in a Bayou.
Max: Bayou? What's that?
Maya: It's a slow-moving creek or a swampy section of a river or a lake. They are usually found in flat areas where water collects in pools.
Max: Wow. There are a lot trees here too.
Maya: The Bayou is home to all kinds of plants and animals. *I took out my sketchbook* Plants and animals I hope to get some sketches of.
Zoe: You have to bring that sketchbook with you everywhere, don't you?
Maya: You know it.
(Third-Person POV)
*Meanwhile, high above the Bayou, the Alpha Gang was in a three-seater bicycle with a balloon attached to it*
Ursula: Come on, come on! Move it! We've already lost one card to those brats! If we lose another one, we'll never hear the end of it from Dr. Z!
Ed: Yeah. It'll be nonstop yelling for who knows how long.
Zander: So we'd better find that card ASAP.
*Just then, Ed stopped peddling & jumped up*
Ed: And once we do, we'll celebrating by eating all the Louisiana cooking we can eat!
*Zander also stopped*
Zander: Gumbo! Jambalaya! Beignets! We'll eat em all!
Ursula: What are you doing!? Keep peddling!
*Suddenly, they started to drop from the sky*
Ed: At least it's a rental, right!?
Zander: Yeah, on my card!
*And they crashed & landed into the swamp on a tiny rise in the water*
Ursula: Why did you idiots stop peddling!?
Zander: Sorry. I guess we got excited and -
Ed: Uh, guys . . . Why are those logs moving?
*Ursula & Zander turned, seeing several figures moving towards them in the water*
Ursula: Those . . . Aren't logs.
*They were actually crocodiles. The Alpha Gang screamed*
(Maya's POV)
*We walked through the trees, looking for the dinosaur. Suddenly, we heard a loud scream*
Maya: What was that?
Max: Think it was the dinosaur?
Rex: Let's get it out?
*We ran towards the scream & saw the Alpha Gang running through the shallow water as they were being chased by crocodiles.
Zoe: Oh. It's just the Old Lady again.
Ursula: I heard that! I'm not old! Zander! Ed! Call out Tank or Spiny already!
Zander: Oh, right. *he took out his Apha Scanner* Alpha Slash! Go, Spinosaurus! Splash down!
*Spiny appeared & roared, scaring off the crocodiles. The Alpha Gang stopped running & panted*
Ed: Finally. I'm exhausted.
Ursula: Me too. But, *she turned to us* I have just enough energy to fight you brats & take your dinosaurs. *she took out her Alpha Scanner* Alpha Slash! Go, Tyrannosaurus! Flame up!
*Terry appeared & roared. Then Ed took out this Alpha Scanner*
Ed: Alpha Slash! Shake it up, Saichania!
*Tank appeared & roared. All three dinosaurs stood in front of us*
Max: Let's go guys!
*We all nodded & took out our Dino Holders*
Max: Dino Slash! Go, Triceratops, roar!
*Max swiped his card & Chomp grew to his big size*
Rex: Dino Slash! Carnotaurus, blow them away!
*Rex swiped his card & Ace grew to his big size*
Zoe: Dino Slash! Parasaurolophus, bloom!
*Zoe swiped her card & Paris grew to her big size*
Maya: Dino Slash! It's time to shine, Lambeosaurus!
*I swiped my card & Lulu grew to her big size. She, Chomp, Ace, & Paris charged at Terry, Spiny, & Tank. All seven of them fought ferociously, knocking over a few trees & scaring some of the animals away. Just then, Terry grabbed Lulu by the neck with his teeth & threw her into a rock wall*
Maya: Lulu!
*I reached to pulled out my move card, but suddenly, Terry swung his tail at her. He missed, but the force of his swing was so strong that it sent me flying into the Bayou*
Max, Rex, & Zoe: Maya!
*Lulu roared & ran after me. I landed in the water with a splash. As I landed, I hit my head on something & everything went black*
(Third-Person POV)
Rex: C'mon, guys! We've gotta find Maya!
Max & Zoe: Right!
*They called back Chomp, Ace, & Paris, turned them back into their mini forms, & ran into the woods*
Ursula: Hey! We're in the middle of a battle here!
Rex: We've got something more important to do than deal with you three stooges!
*The D-Team disappeared into the trees*
Zander: Well. That was rude.
Ursula: Hey, do you think this counts as a victory?
Ed: Well, they did forfeit the battle, so yeah. I guess it counts.
*The D-Team ran through the trees as they searched for Maya*
Rex: Maya! Where are you!?
Max: Maya!
Zoe: Maya, answer us!
*Just then, they heard rustling in some nearby bushes*
Rex: Maya? Is that you?
*But instead a herd of ran out of the bushes, filled by the Brachyceratops*
Max: That's not Maya! That's a Brachyceratops!
*Chomp suddenly got excited & ran up to the dinosaur. He nuzzled against it's leg & it nuzzled back*
Zoe: Aw, that's so sweet! Chomp made a new friend.
Rex: Yeah . . . Maya would have loved to get a stretch of this.
*Max & Zoe saw how worried Rex was. It didn't surprise them, since Maya was the only blood relative he had. Max put a hand on his shoulder & Zoe held his hand*
Max: Hey, don't worry, Rex. We'll find her.
Zoe: Yeah. She may not look it, but she's tough.
*Just then, Rex felt something against his leg. He looked down & saw Ace nuzzling it. He smiled, bent down, picked up Ace, & hugged him*
Rex: You're right, guys. Thanks.
Ursula:*off-screen* Ah. Such a touching scene.
*The D-Team turned around & saw the D-Team behind them*
Max: You guys followed us!?
Zander: Well, we figured if we followed you, you'd lead us right to the dinosaur, brat.
Ursula: And now that you have, we'll just take it. Get em, boys!
*Terry, Spiny, & Tank made their way towards the D-Team & the Brachyceratops*
Rex:*in his mind* Don't worry, Maya. I'll find you as soon as I deal with these jokers.
*In another part of the swamp, Maya floated in river, unconscious. Lulu found her & reached to her to help her, but a crocodile made it's way towards Maya. Lulu roared at it, but it just snapped his teeth at her. Just then, a figure in a boat came rowing in. While a smooth-billed ani distracted the crocodile, the figure pulled the unconscious Maya into their boat & paddled down the river. Lulu followed them*
(Maya's POV)
*I kept blinking in & out of consciousness. While I did, I was seeing a man rowing a boat, a bird resting on the side of the boat, & Lulu walking next to the boat. Then I saw what looked like a boat in a giant tree (look up "Mama Odie's Tree" on "Disney Wiki"). Then everything went black again*
*When I opened my eyes again, I saw Lulu in front of my face, her big head coming in through the window*
Maya: Lulu? *I sat up & looked around. I was laying in a hammock in a room full of candles, plants hanging from the ceiling, a cauldron in the center of the room, & pictures of circles on the walls* Wh - Where am I?
?:*off-screen* Ah, so you're finally awake, child.
*I turned towards the voice & saw a man with dark skin, black hair in dreadlock, brown eyes, a white skull painted on his face, & wearing a black top hat with bones on it, an alligator teeth necklace, a green vest, a purple sash around his waist, rep striped pants, black shoes, & holding a black staff with a purple bal on top (look up "Witch Doctor Reference Sheet" by "SqueakyNoodle" on "DeviantArt") with a smooth-billed ani on his shoulder*
Maya: Aah! W - Who are you?
Doctor Gervais: Easy, child. No need to be afraid. My name is Doctor Gervais. I'm a Witch Doctor. And this my friend, Mojo.
Maya: A Witch Doctor?
Doctor Gervais: Do not worry. I'm nothing like the witches you've probably read about in your fairy tales.
Maya: Oh. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been so rude.
Doctor Gervais: It's alright. I'm used to those kinds of reactions. *he went over to his cauldron & scooped whatever was inside into a bowl. I nervously backed away as he handed it to me* Oh, don't worry. It's just gumbo. My family's very own recipe.
*I slowly took the bowl & took a sip from it*
Maya: Oh. It's delicious.
Doctor Gervais: Thank you, child. *then he petted Lulu's head as she poked in from the window* And you're quite welcome, my scaly friend.
*I was surprised by what I was seeing*
Maya: You seem awfully calm for someone facing a alive dinosaur.
Doctor Gervais: Oh, I've seen a lot of strange things in my time. A live dinosaur is nothing new to me. Plus, a place like this swamp would most likely be the perfect place for a herbivore like her to live.
Maya: Oh. What kind of things have you seen?
Doctor Gervais: Oh, things you'd probably never believe. Though I am curious how you found our dinosaur friend.
Maya: I found Lulu with my . . . My friends! Oh no! They're still fighting the Alpha Gang without me! I have to get back to them! Come on, Lulu!
*I started to run towards the door*
Doctor Gervais: Hold on, child. *I stopped* Allow me to come as well. I must make sure this Alpha Gang doesn't cause anymore damage to the Bayou.
*He walked out of his house*
Maya:*in her mind* How . . . How did he know about the Alpha Gang? I didn't tell him.
(Third-Person POV)
*Meanwhile, back at the battle, it was more like a game of chase, as the D-Team & their dinosaurs, who were back in their full size, ran with the Brachyceratops, as the Alpha Gang's dinosaurs, after plowing over all trees & plants in their way. Just then, the Brachyceratops stopped, glowed yellow, reared it's head back, & thrust it forward, launching arrows made of lightning at Spiny, zapping him & causing damage*
Ursula: Ah! That was Lightning Arrow! Terry, get it!
*Terry charged towards the Brachyceratops. Suddenly, a voice cried out*
Maya:*off-screen* Thorn Whip!
*A massive thorny vine appeared & headed straight towards Terry & Tank. Terry dodged it, but the vine hit Tank, causing damage*
Zander: Ah! Where did that come from!?
*Everyone turned & saw Maya, riding on the back of Lulu with Doctor Gervais behind her*
(Maya's POV)
Max, Rex, & Zoe: Maya!
Maya: Hey, guys. Sorry I'm late. My new friend helped me find you.
*Doctor Gervais waved my friends, & my brother, & jumped off Lulu*
Doctor Gervais: It's a pleasure to meet the D-Team I've heard so much about. Max Taylor. Rex Owen, twin brother to Maya Owen. And Zoe Drake. ** As well as Chomp, Ace, and Paris. *my friends & brother all looked at me confused & I just shrugged. then he turned to the Alpha Gang with a glare* And it's my displeasure to meet the Alpha Gang. The one's who are bound to cause trouble to the balance of nature.
Ursula: The only thing that out of balance here, pal, is your fashion sense.
Zander: Yeah. Those pants are clashing with that vest.
Doctor Gervais: Insult me all you want, but you cant change what the future has told me. The wheels of fate have already begun to turn. One day, you and your leader will fail to achieve your ultimate goal.
Ed: Oh yeah! We'll show you failure! *he took out a Move Card & swiped it* Dino Swing!
*Tank bite down on the Brachyceratops' tail & swung him around several times before tossing him away, turning back into a card*
Zoe: Oh no!
Rex: Alright, Ace. It's our turn! *he swiped his Move Card* Cyclone!
*A tornado came out of the sky & surrounded Ace. He was then surrounded by a whipping winds. He charged at Tank, grabbed her by the tail & swung it around. It let get & Tank hit one of the trees & turned back into a card*
Ed: Tank!
*He ran to the card & picked it up*
Max: Nice one, Rex! We're up, Chomp! *he took out a Move Card & swiped it* Electric Charge!
*Chomp was hit with a bolt of lightning, charged at Spiny, & hit him with a burst of electricity, knocking him back. He then turned back into a card*
Zander: Spiny!
*He went to pick it up*
Ursula: Alright, brats! You may have gotten a few lucky shot, but *she took out a Move Card & swiped it* Volcano Burst!
*Terry swung fire in his mouth & sent the fire at Lulu, Chomp, Ace, & Paris. The fire went underneath them & caused a lot of damage*
Max: Chomp!
Rex: Ace!
Zoe: Paris!
Maya: Lulu! *in her mind* If we don't something, we could lose the dinosaur! What do we do!? *Just then, I got an idea. I pulled out the Saltasaurus Card we got from the Amazon Jungle* I don't know if this'll work. But it's worth a try. *I swiped the card in the slot on my Dino Holder**out loud* Dino Slash! Please, help us!
*The Saltasaurus appeared & roared*
Max: Whoa! Since when could you do that!?
Maya: Uh . . . Always, I guess.
Zoe: See if you can use it's Move Card too!
Maya: Right. *I took out Saltasaurus' Move Card & swiped it in my Dino Holder* Aqua Javelin!
*The Saltasaurus reared up & was surrounded by water. Then it launched the water like spears at Terry, hitting him & turning him back into a card*
Ursula: Terry!
*She ran to grab the card. Once she did, a giant foot stomped in front of her. She slowly looked up & saw Lulu, Chomp, Ace, Paris, & the Saltasaurus looking down at her. Doctor Gervais stepped up to Ursula from behind Lulu. Just then, Mojo flew down & on his shoulder*
Doctor Gervais: You three. Leave this swamp and never return.
*His eyes flashed purple, making the Alpha Gang scream. They ran towards the water, but stopped then they realized where they were. Then they were surrounded by crocodiles. They screamed again & ran into the Bayou with the crocodiles right behind them*
*We went to Doctor Gervais' house boat, where he served us his delicious gumbo*
Max: Wow! This is the best gumbo I've ever eaten!
Maya: Told you.
Zoe: The spices all blend perfectly together.
Rex: And the meat and vegetables are go tender and soft.
*Even the dinosaurs were enjoying it*
Doctor Gervais: I am pleased that you like it, children. In fact . . . *he reached into his pants pocket & took out a piece of paper* Why don't you take it home? Consider this my gift to you.
*We were all surprised by this*
Maya: But we couldn't. You said it was your family recipe, right?
Doctor Gervais: Yes, it is. But I think my Mama would understand. Especially if it's to make your Mother happy.
*Now we were really surprised*
Max: H - How did you know?
Doctor Gervais: Let's just say . . . My friends on the other side told me. *hee winked & we all looked at each other in confusion* Also, I believe this rightfully belongs to you.
*He took out the Brachyceratops card & Move Card*
Max: Oh yeah! I almost forgot about that.
*I took the card*
Maya: Thank you so much, Doctor Gervais.
Doctor Gervais: It's my pleasure, children.
Before we left, I did some sketches of the bayou*
*A week later, the whole neighborhood had gathered in the park for the potluck. Everyone had brought something to eat & it was all delicious. But the most popular thing by far, was the gumbo Mrs. Taylor had made from Doctor Gervais' recipe. She also made beignets for dessert, which Dr. Taylor couldn't get enough of*
Mrs. Mulberry: Why, Aki. I've been to Louisiana many times and I never had gumbo this delicious. You must share your recipe.
Aki: I'd be happy to Mrs. Mulberry. Although, you should probably thank my son and his friends. They found it.
Mrs. Mulberry: Really? *she turned to us* Where did you kids find such an amazing recipe?
Max: Uh . . .
*He looked at us, nervous*
Zoe: Let's just say, we got it from a new friend.
*I looked out into the crowd & for a split second, I swore I saw Doctor Gervais stand in the middle, with Mojo on his shoulder. I rubbed my eyes & they were gone*
Rex: What's wrong, Maya?
Maya: N - Nothing. Must been seeing things.
(Third-Person POV)
*Behind a nearby tree, Doctor Gervais was watching the kids*
Doctor Gervais: Good luck, kids. Your adventure has only just begun. Two of you are going to have your lives changed forever. I only wish there was more I could do. *Mojo squawked* You're right, Mojo. The wheels of fate have already began to turn.
*Then he walked into the forest & disappeared*
*Meanwhile, back in the Bayou, Ursula, Zander, & Ed were stuck in a tree in the middle of the swamp. Below them, alligators were swimming around the tree's trunk*
Ed: So how do you think it'll be until Dr. Z decides to come and rescue us?
Ursula & Zander: Not for a long time.
*Just then, Ed's stomach growled*
Ed: I'm hungry.
*Ursula & Zander groaned*
