Loki remembered the touch, the feeling, the warmth. How could he forget..He didn't dare to dream to ever feel it again...Loki gets an unexpected visitor
Please read, enjoy and review :)
He let the branch slide through his hand as he watched it absentminded. A few fragments coming through, words, voices, pictures..
How long had it been?
The question haunted him recurrently these days. Since that one day..
The day she came here..
How much time did pass by since he went out there, destroying the loom?
Time had always been linear to him and for everybody else it still was this way. Yesterday was past, tomorrow hasn't been written yet, the present was the only thing concrete, tangible.
For Loki, it wasn't anymore. For him, time was just another variable now.
But how much time did pass by for them? He almost got lost on his thoughts, when he heard something.
At first, it was just a rustle..
.. a whisper..
Like leaves that are blown over the ground by the wind.
Loki thought it was the branches. They crackled a little, particularly when there was a lot of going on on the timeline. He had to make sure that everything was okay. So he looked at the branch he held in hand, his eyes rolling inwards, getting cloudy.
He looked inside the branch. But everything was okay, nothing suspicious, no Kang variant, no disruption.
Just a girl, leaning against a wall outside the bar she liked so much.
Outside the bar she went with him, when he had tried to convince her about going back with him to fix the loom. When he had told her that he didn't want to be alone. That he wanted to be with his friends.
But he also wanted to save this.
All if it.
All of them.
And you..
And then he felt something. A touch on his shoulder..
"Loki"
He shivered, letting the picture in front of him fade away.. coming back to his physical form. The gently placed hand on his shoulder. He remember the touch, the feeling, the warmth.
How could he forget..
He didn't dare to dream to ever feel it again.
Tears started to well up in his eyes.
"Mother"
Then he saw her smile, her soft, blue eyes, her long blond hair, braided, falling over her shoulders. A tear was running down his cheek and before it could fall she catched it, her hand caressing his face gently.
"Loki, my son"
He leaned into her hand, his heart melting, everything inside and outside of him trembling. The touch was so overwhelming.
"How.. how can you..?"
Frigga shook her head slowly, her smile could have melted ice.
It certainly melted this ice runt..
How could she be here? How could she come this close to him? Touch him..It felt so good and also teared something open. Something that had been closed. Had to be closed, given the circumstances.
"I am a mother, Loki. I have my ways."
Another tear ran down his cheek, it was a strange feeling, long forgotten..
.. but relieving..
The timelines moved, making room for her next to him. He watched it with fascination. It was something special, they had never done this before. The branches even formed kind of an abstract chair for her, so that she sat on the same height.
Like in those days, back on Asgard, when they had dinner together. Or when she sat with him, teaching him magic, practicing a new trick.
He looked at her, still couldn't believe she was real. Still waiting for her to disappear any moment. She turned her head and placed her hand on his again, caressing it.
"A thousand years, Loki, and I never seen you like that.."
His mother pointed at the timeline on which he was still holding onto, near his heart. Loki had forgotten about it and realized he was almost clinging to it now. She looked at him with the knowing look of a mother.
"You love her"
It wasn't even a question.
No need for a question.
And no need for an answer from him.
So they sat there in silence for a moment, mother and son, touching each others hands and hearts. Lokis voice was rough and he stumbled, as he broke the silence.
"I thought.. I would never.. see you.. again.."
He still couldn't grasp what was happening here but now everything came back to him in an instant. The last time he had seen his mother, before he had fallen from the Bifrost. After his fight with Thor..
Before New York..
And everything Mobius had shown him when he first came to the TVA, how it all was supposed to happen. The trial before Odin on Asgard, his cell, the books she had sent him..
"Frigga is the only reason you're still alive and you'll never see her again."
How she came to him, not in her physical form, because she wasn't allowed to. But nevertheless came to visit him, to see him, to talk to him.
And all he cared about was his hate for Thor and Odin, his failed attempt to rule earth, that Odin has locked him in this cell. Unspokenly using his mother as a messenger for his brother and father.. to sprinkle salt in old family wounds.
To distract from his own bleeding wounds and his hurt..
His hurt ego..
"Does Odin share your concern? Does Thor..?"
All the pain and the grief came back to him. All the things he said to her.
And the worst..
"Than am I not your mother"
"You're not"
He looked deep into Friggas eyes and placed his own hand above hers. It felt so wholesome but everything inside told him that he didn't deserve it. Her touch, her gentle smile, her love..
"Mother, I am so sorry.."
But she just shook her head and took his face into her hands, looking straightaway into his soul.
"Hush, my son. I don't have much time. I wanted to tell you how proud I am of you.."
With those words Frigga stood and took both of his hands in hers once more.
".. how proud we both are"
Lokis eyes widened and tears shot into them..
Proud..
His mother was proud of him..
Odin.. his father was proud of him..
"And I wanted to tell you something else.."
She made a pause and came nearer, holding his hands tightly.
"Don't put your roots down here forever, Loki. I fear for you to waste away because of a self-imposed solitude."
Loki looked at his mother, deeply moved and torn apart.
"I can't leave here. It is my.."
Frigga smiled at her son one last time.
".. glorious purpose, I know, my son. And you grew beyond yourself and beyond all our expectations. But as your mother, it is my duty to remind you that you don't deserve to be sitting here alone forever, Loki."
"You really think you deserve to be alone?"
Her physical form slowly faded away before his eyes, but her last words were full of emotion..
.. and love.
"Your brother was right, Loki. The throne suits you ill. But not because you don't deserve it or because you're not a good king.. but because you deserve to be loved.
A last breeze caressed him..
Her scent..
And for one moment he saw a small black haired boy, who was giggling with excitement and joy, a firework emerging from his hand.. and beside him a proud mother who took him into her arms.
And at that moment all he felt was love.
A/N:
I loved writing this Chapter. I think we all need more Frigga/Loki scenes, because every time he's with her you can feel his love and care for another person. They had a beautiful connection despite all of their family problems.
Maybe we get to see them again in a movie..this would make me soo happy =)
And I wanted him to know that he's seen and loved and that they're proud of him..especially Frigga
And of course: mother knows best!
