"I'll take you up on that offer when we get home, Ms. Swan." I kiss your strawberry-flavored
lips. "Can I escort you to the bonfire? I'm sure the desserts are being served by now."
"Yes, please."
A couple more people stop us along the way. You don't complain while I shmooze the guests.
By the time we make it to the beach, people are already sitting around the fire, roasting marshmallows and enjoying the other offerings.
I catch sight of Jasper and his friend Alice. They're hanging out with their handler assigned to them for the night. With all the excitement and the water being so close by, there's no way we'd be able to keep an eye on them so Kate hired a babysitter. After the fireworks show, they'll be taken home.
We hit up the dessert buffet and load up a plate with s'mores' ingredients. I grab two long skewers and follow you to where Kate and Garrett are sitting. We share a lounge chair, considering how crowded it is.
You're like a little kid, making sure your marshmallows are perfectly roasted and constructing your little sandwiches. There's really no neat way to eat a s'more, and you're adorable with your messy mouth and sticky hands. Luckily, Carmen thought to provide moist towelettes.
When you're good and full of sugar, we decide to take advantage of the beautiful night and walk along the beach.
You've got your sandals dangling from your fingers, and you're walking in the shallow water.
"We don't spend enough time out here," you comment, breaking the comfortable silence. "I mean, we live so close by and never hang out at the beach."
I agree. "Now that we've launched and the night is almost over, I'll be able to take some time off, and we'll rectify that before you go back to school."
This makes you happy, and we head back.
The fireworks show is spectacular, and the night is a huge success. We raise a good amount of money for the cause and head home on cloud nine.
