Elsa's POV
.
.
.
The Haunted Rooms that Mavis's father had put together took up the entire second floor of the hotel. The little area where the elevators and stairs are located is where the line is being held, which thankfully isn't long, and even better, there are two lines. One line is for the left corridor and the other line is for the right corridor.
My friends and I chose the right.
"Alright, newcomers," says the staff member in charge of the right line as my friends and I lined up with the others. "The rules are simple: No running, no violent behavior, no sticking gum on the walls, no touching props, and no getting ahead, which means that every room must be done in order. Every room will have a door connected to the next room that says 'Next'. Just follow the arrows."
I peer my eyes into the hallway and counted the rooms. "Wow," I say out loud, gaining someone's attention I'm sure. "That's a lot." 40 rooms altogether, but 20 rooms each on the left and right. God this hotel is huge. I can see my parents hosting banquets here.
"Does that make you nervous, Snowflake?" Asks Jack as he playfully nudges me, causing my heart to flutter at his nickname that I view as an endearment now. "I'll protect you during the entire thing if you're scared."
"Trust me," I say with the roll of my eyes and blush in my cheeks. "This is not scary."
My sister thought otherwise. "Uh...I don't know Elsa. Do you not hear those screams? They sound terrified."
Kristoff chuckles from in front of us, where he stood with my cousin and Flynn. "I thought you were all excited for this. What happened to my-I mean our brave Anna?"
"Nothing! I'm still brave. I'm just..." she grimaces when another scream pierces our ears and unknowingly grips my arm, "a little concerned is all." Kristoff chuckles again and it makes her glare. "It's not funny, Christopher ."
"It is to me, Annie, " Kristoff remarks, smirking triumphantly as my sister gasps.
Her jaw was left agape as she gazed at him with wide, shocked eyes, fully offended. "How dare you?!" She smacks his arm multiple times with her free hand and continues to smack him as she finishes speaking. "My. Name. Is. Not. Annie!"
And much to my confusion, Jack starts singing. "Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love ya, tomorrow! You're always a day away! Come on Flynn, I know you know this song."
Flynn shakes crosses his arms and shakes his head. "Uh-uh. Nope. I don't sing, and just because I'm an orphan does not mean I know every song to Annie."
"That's a damn lie. You totally sing when you're alone, especially Annie songs."
"No I don't!"
And thus, their bickering began.
The next few minutes of our wait consisted of Jack and Flynn lovingly insulting each other, with Kristoff occasionally agreeing with both of them, while the girls and I merely stood in silence as the scene unfolded. However, somewhere along the line, I get a text message from Rapunzel.
R: Where did you go? You were gone for quite a while. I would have texted, but I figured you were somewhere in the building having fun so I didn't wanna bother
I look up at her, but she kept her eyes on her screen, waiting for me to reply, which I quickly did, making sure my sister wasn't paying attention. Luckily, the boys had her full attention.
E: Lol yeah I was still in the building. I was just wondering around. Sightseeing and trying to find some quiet. I'm not used to loud parties like this
I hated that I lied to her, especially since I know she can keep a secret, but a secret like this, Jack and I, it's the one secret that I want to keep for myself for a while. She and the others will find out eventually when I want them too, but right now...this new relationship will be between just Jack and I. No one else.
R: Ah yes. They don't compare to the usual business parties lol
E: Definitely not
She didn't have time to reply back because as soon as I sent my text, the person in charge tells us it's our turn to go, which sends a flock of butterflies to destroy my stomach. I really wasn't all that nervous until now, but luckily for me, Anna's hand, which she entwined with mine, brought me some comfort.
"You ready?" She asks, braver than what she was before.
"Only if you are," I say, smiling a genuine smile, which brightens at the sight of hers.
"Heck yeah! Let's show these Scooby Doo wannabe monsters that we're not scared!"
But of course, we both failed. We all did.
The second we walked into the first room, a skeleton dropped from the ceiling, which caused all of us screamed, and Anna...well she ended up breaking one of the rules. She made a run for it. I called out for her the second she let go of my hand and had zoomed forward, but it was Kristoff who took off after her, laughing hysterically like the rest of us.
"Jesus Christ, we have to do every damn room?" Asks Flynn, who already looks so done with being scared.
"Aww are you scared?" Rapunzel teases as she links her arm through his and pulls him forward, leading us all through the dark apartment like room. "You could always just make a run for it like Anna did. You'll get done faster."
"Yeah, Flynn," Jack agrees, nudging his friend, "go make a run for it. You're used to that right?"
Worry flashes in Flynn's eyes and defensively he says, "What the hell is that supposed to mean?" whose tone surprises us all.
Jack, taken aback, isn't sure how to respond at first. "Uh...nothing. I was just saying you should be used to running since you're in sports. Football, Track, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball...you've done them all, so running is a natural talent of yours."
Flynn's features relax and he chuckles, more out of nervousness than in humor of his misinterpretation. "Oh-" If he planned on saying more, he was unable to because of the screams that filled the air, which sounded a lot like Anna.
"Well, there's my sister," I comment and jump out of my skin when someone dressed as a zombie jumped out of the corner we were about to turn into. Rapunzel had screamed and took off like Anna did a moment before, only instead of letting go she takes Flynn with her, rushing past the zombie. Me on the other hand, I stayed put, but accidentally buried myself in Jack's chest, completely out of fright.
Jack laughs and says, "Yo, thanks zombie dude. You scared the shit out of me, but I've been wanting her in my arms since I got here. I owe you one." He holds out his fist, which the zombie pumps against his own.
Embarrassment stormed through me badly and I quickly pull away from him, not daring to look him in the eye. "I'm going to have a heart attack if they keep popping out like that," I mutter to myself as I quickly rush past the stranger in the zombie mask.
"Well how else should they pop out?" Asks Jack from behind me. When he makes it to my side, he links his arm through mine like Anna had done before.
"What do you think you're doing?" I ask, but did not pull away from his touch.
Jack cocks his head to the side like a confused puppy and smiles. "What? Can I not be your partner? Anna and Kristoff are partners, as well as Rapunzel and Flynn. They left us too, so I mean...you're the only partner I have. Plus, since they're not here, they won't see."
"Hmm I don't know," I smirk as I kept my eyes ahead, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious and the arrows on the wall. "You and Zombie Dude seemed to get along very well. But I do suppose you can hold on to me."
"Because you like it right?"
"Because I know you'll need me to comfort you when you get scared."
"Um excuse me, it was YOU who got scared and cuddled up against ME!"
"The past is in the past. Let it go, Frost."
Jack's chuckle reaches my ears before another set of screams do, followed by very vulgar words that belonged to Flynn. Jack and I were sent into a laughing fit as Flynn, wherever he is in the room, said curse word after curse word.
"I wonder if he's close by in this room or is just being very loud in another room," I say as we walk into the next room and continue exploring.
"I'm pretty sure him and Rapunzel are way ahead of us. They're most likely already in the third room by now," he says and I couldn't help but laugh at the thought of my sister, who must be farther ahead.
"And I'm pretty sure Anna and Kristoff are already done." A part of me wished we were too, but another part of me liked being alone with Jack again. I'm sure he likes it too.
"Do you want to break some rules-"
"No, Jack, I am not going to kiss you."
Jack's full hearted laughter, a big reaction I wasn't expecting, confused me until he said: "I was going to say 'Do you want to break some rules and make a run for it?' We're not supposed to run, but the others did. Jesus! And here I thought you loved my kisses."
Embarrassed once again, I thanked God for the dark lighting for the billionth time. "Oh my god," I laugh, which sparked his laughter again. "I'm sorry. I thought-" but I continue laughing, overwhelmed with...silliness. Happiness. It's all I've felt since we kissed. It's a high that I want to always feel. Always and forever.
Huffing, he removes his arm from mine to cross it with his other one against his chest. "Oh I know very well what you thought, Elsa ."
I giggled one more time before trying to speak again. "Look," I say and reach for his hand, the only thing I'm comfortable doing in public, even though no one else is around for it to be considered public, "if you want to run out of here, I'm all for it. I just thought you'd like to stay alone for a little longer. But if you're scared and you can't protect me because of it then I completely understand."
"Hey," Jack says in full playful offense, "I've been doing an amazing job at protecting you. You're not hurt or dead, so cut me some slack. I think I'm doing a good job so far."
"Yeah, so far. " I repeat then giggle at the upcoming events of him being scared. "We still have more rooms to go through."
And I pray the Lord will help us get through them all.
Jack and I were laughing pretty hard by the time we finished the last room and reunited with the others, who we saw on the other side of a door that said 'STAIRS'. The four of them were hyped up, smiling and laughing and talking fast all at once. Just seeing them all having a good time, even Kristoff, made me feel good.
"Oh my gosh, Elsa!" Anna exclaims when she sees me and dashes towards Jack and I. When she makes it to me she makes no hesitation in taking hold of my hands and jumping. "That was so thrilling!"
Laughing I say, "So you enjoyed it? Didn't seem like it the second we walked through the first door."
Anna rolls her eyes but laughs. "I was taken off guard. Not my fault. Oh and did you see Mavis's text?"
My brows narrow in confusion "Text?"
Rapunzel jumps in and says, "She messaged a bunch of people in a group chat inviting us to stay the night-"
"For free!" Flynn interrupts, more excited than Anna. "And I don't know about you guys, but I am so ready to check out the rooms here that aren't covered with Halloween decorations and full of people in costumes that I want to punch."
Anna throws her hands up and cheers. "Yes! Let's do this. A hotel sleepover on Halloween. This night got 10 times better."
I wasn't so sure about that at first since I'd rather not sleep in my costume, but when we got our room numbers and keys and found the rooms, seeing the beds changed my mind. Exhaustion hit me like a truck when I saw how comfortable the beds looked, and when I sat down on the one bed closest to the door, I was reminded of my bed at home.
"I hope you guys didn't have anything planned," I say to my sister and cousin (Jack, Kristoff, and Flynn are in the room next door). "Because I think I might crash right here, right now."
"Aww man," says a voice from behind us at the door, "And here I came to invite you for a movie marathon."
Astrid stood by the door, her hair no longer in a braid, flowing beautifully in loose waves over her shoulders and down her back. She really should wear it down more. I guess the same could be said for me. I don't think I've ever worn it down. It's always in a bun and braid. I wonder if Jack would like it down?
"Hey Astrid!" Rapunzel greets, happily. "Where the heck have you been?"
Astrid shrugs before she leans against the doorframe. "Here and there. I got back the moment Mavis sent her text and quickly found Merida-"
"She was with my cousin by the way," Says Merida, who popped her head out from the side of the doorframe. She flashes a grin to her very best friend and continues. "She said they just ran into each other, but Hiccup was missing for just as long as she was. They found me together. Coincidence? I think not."
Astrid rolls her eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say. Anyway, you girls want to take this sleepover to our room? I don't know if you've noticed, but these rooms are more like giant apartments that are able to fit at least 20 people in them. We'll make pallets on the floor and fight over who gets the beds and couches to sleep on."
A figure comes up from behind them, who I couldn't quite see, just the shadow, but when I heard his voice I knew. "I hope us guys are invited. Equal rights, man."
"Yeah," says another familiar voice. "Plus I'm down to see girls fight."
Merida smacks both Jack and Flynn and says, "Comments like that is the reason why you're not allowed over. Only Bunny, Maui, Kristoff and Hiccup are allowed."
I was able to see the boys now, since they moved to stand in front of the door, and both of them wore the same offended expression that set Anna, Rapunzel, and I giggling.
"Wow, rude," says Jack, who glances at me and smirks. "I bet Elsa wants me." His word choice sent me blushing. "To come over I mean." His correction did not cool down the rising heat in my face, which is getting hotter because I know everyone can see it in the brighter lighting.
Oh my god, Jack, shut up.
Luckily, Flynn makes Rapunzel flustered too. "Yeah, same for Rapunzel. We all know she wants me. Both to come over and as a lover." He winks and Rapunzel ends up laughing nervously as color stains her cheeks.
"Get over yourself," she says, but her eyes said something else. "The only one who wants you is you."
Jack surprises me by sliding his arm around Flynn's waist. "I want you, baby boy." He puckers his lips and leans forward, which causes Flynn to push Jack's face back with his hand.
"Sorry," says Flynn, trying not to crack up. "I like my men muscular like Maui, Eret, and Kristoff."
I couldn't tell if the offense on Jack's face is fake or genuine. "Are you saying I'm not muscular enough for you, Flynnigan? Seriously? Is that it? Okay first of all," he sassily sticks one finger up.
"Ah shit, here we go again." Says Merida, which nearly made me burst into an ugly fit of laughter.
"Looks don't matter," Jack went on, "It's personality. The heart, and I have one helluva big heart and personality. Second," a second finger joins his first one, "You should have put a ring on it when you had the chance, honey. You'll never find another like me."
Flynn ends up snorting. "Yeah, dude, that's the point."
That's when I lost it, along with the other girls. Merida probably the loudest of all. And Jack, despite getting dissed on-he's all about fun after all-laughs too. Actually, I think he laughed harder than Merida.
Afterwards, when we've calmed down some, Jacks says, "How do we not have our own reality show? Step aside Kardashians. The real divas are here! We'd be a hit."
"Yeah, well," Merida says, obviously holding back a smile, "I'm about to show all of you a hit unless you start moving. I want to watch some Halloween movies, specifically Teen Wolf and Hocus Pocus."
"And Corpse Bride!" Says Anna.
"Edward Scissorhands!" Rapunzel Adds.
"Nightmare Before Christmas!" Jack adds after her. "It's my Halloween favorite and I say we watch it first." He had mentioned the movie earlier tonight when we were at his house, and I secretly agreed with him to watch it first. "Thanks for the invite, by the way. I knew you couldn't resist me."
Merida chuckles rather than scoff. "Trust me, Frost, I'm doing this for my benefit, not yours. If I don't let you and Flynn tag along, who knows what kind of trouble you'd bring us."
"So in other words," Astrid takes over, smiling, "she wants us all to babysit you so you don't get us kicked out of the hotel."
"Damn," says Jack as he hangs his head low. "Looks like I can't scratch that off the bucket list."
Flynn pats his back and says, "It's okay, bro. Your dream will come true one day." He looks at Merida and Astrid then. "We accept and promise to be on our best behavior."
Jack's head snaps up so quick that I felt a phantom pain of whiplash. "Whoa, hold up I didn't agree to that."
Flynn turns him around and starts leading him to what I assumed was Merida and Astrid's room. "Too bad, so sad. Let's go."
Merida says something under her breath which makes Astrid giggle, and soon all of us are in their room, identical to the room I was just in, and waiting for us was Hiccup, Kristoff, Tooth, Bunny, Maui, and Moana, chilling out in the living room area. The only one missing from our group (which I do like to consider Maui to be part of now), is Eret. He's most likely with his mystery girl.
Maui throws his arms up and say, "There they are! The gang's all here, minus Eret who's too horny to join us."
Astrid groans and says, "Don't make me gag." Which is weird, because whenever sex is mentioned that's not targeted toward her, she's never squeamish about it. I wonder why she's squeamish now? Is it possible that she has a crush on Eret and the thought of him having sex with someone else is awkward for her? She's never shown signs of liking him before. Maybe it's just the thought of our guy friend having sex that has her so disturbed. I agree that it is weird thinking of Eret in such...positions. Or perhaps there's an entirely different reason that I don't know about that's the cause of Astrid's uneasiness.
Anna, already way too invested in the gossip, asks: "Oh my god, is he finally sleeping with Ruffnut? Did her charm finally work on him? Is she the mystery girl he's seeing?"
Flynn and Astrid laugh together, which gave me a feeling that they knew something that we didn't. "Ruffnut wishes it was her," says Astrid, whose expression quickly turns bitter again as she sits on the arm of the couch, right next to Hiccup. "Hell, I kind of wish it was her too. But it's definitely not her."
And Flynn confirms it. "Yeah, girl," he says to Anna, "it's definitely not Ruffnut. I know that for a fact."
Astrid cocks her head to the side and drills her gaze into him. "Is that so? And how do you know this?"
Flynn looks heavily nervous, and his eyes instantly land on Maui before he looks back at Astrid, giving a look that said 'oh shit I shouldn't have said that', which was enough proof for all of us to know that he knows who Eret's mystery girl is. His eyes then quickly scan over the room, trying to find an escape. Or perhaps it's simply so he doesn't combust under Astrid's killer stare.
"Uuuhhh anyone want room service?" He rushes over to the TV, where the hotel phone sat next to, and brings it to his ear. "I'll ask for a lot of popcorn, candy, and other snacks. Any requests?"
Maui smiles as he shakes his head and takes a drink of his Fiji water. "Should have kept your mouth shut, man."
That made Astrid suspicious again. "Do you know who it is too? Because it sure does sound like it."
Maui shrugs as he takes another swig of his water. "Maybe I do, maybe I don't."
Moana, who is sitting next to her cousin on the floor, both leaning against the couch that Hiccup, Tooth, and Bunny sat on, nudges her cousin in warning. "Maui if you know something, don't be difficult. Tell us."
Mischief flashes in his eyes that reminds me of Jack, who I notice is standing next to Kristoff, who is sitting in the recliner next to the lit fireplace.
Maui shook his head, still being difficult. "I don't think Eret would appreciate me sharing his secret, which I do know. Spilling his beans is messed up. Plus, I think you already know who it is, Astrid. You sure made it sound like you did."
Astrid, obviously frustrated that he used her words against her, runs a hand through her hair, and inhales deeply. "That's because Eret is terrified of Ruffnut. He'd give up all of his limbs before he slept with her. It's simple logic that even the dumb can understand. But you know what? I don't care if you know or not. This is literally the most stupidest conversation I have ever had and I don't want to talk about it anymore."
"Then let's not talk about anything at all," says Anna as she walks behind the couch and pulls out the pillow Bunny was sitting against, whacking him across the head with no hesitation.
"Oi!" He yelps. "What the hell-"
And from the top of her lungs, my sister screams: "PILLOW FIGHT!" And away she went, whacking Bunny again then Tooth then Hiccup and starting a war that I never thought I would ever have.
Tooth grabs the couch pillow behind her and is the first to join my sister, Rapunzel being the second, and Jack the third, leaving no more couch pillows for the rest of us to use until Merida comes back with the pillows from the two bedrooms.
Bunny, Kristoff, Hiccup, and I stood by as the others pretty much attacked each other and after a few moments of watching, Kristoff surprises us all by attacking me first. I stumble backward at the force of his hit and drop my pillow, so in shock. I expected Jack, Anna, or Rapunzel to attack me first. Not Kristoff.
He bows and says, "Sorry, your majesty. It appears my hand slipped."
I find myself grinning and say, "Oh, you really shouldn't have done that." My confidence must have thrown him off because his smug smile turns into a frown. "Hey, Anna!" I call out to her, easily gaining her attention. I point to Kristoff with my thumb. "Wanna team up?"
Her running over to my side and immediately hitting Kristoff with no pause whatsoever is the answer she gives me, but I wasn't able to join her due to someone else attacking me, and that someone is Jack.
"Tell your wild sister to leave my boy alone," he says as he throws his pillow back, ready to bring it forward and hit me again, but I acted quickly and hit him in the stomach first.
"No can do, Jackson, " and never have I ever felt so witty.
Jack and I fought for a while before Merida takes him down. Literally. She tackled him, which caused me to move on to the next person available, which ends up being every person in the room because I couldn't choose who to go for next. Gotta make it fair, right? This goes on for a while, I'm not even sure how long, but eventually we all tire ourselves out, and are huffing as though we're all in the worst shape possible.
"Okay," says Flynn, whose huffing is amusing since he has played the most sports out of all of us. He should not be so out of breath. "Can we please order room service and watch those Halloween movies now? That's the only reason why I came over. Not to nearly die in a pillow fight."
"Aww," Merida taunts, "but I thought you wanted to see girls fight?"
"Not against me !"
The group and I laugh at this and I say, "I could really go for a movie right now. Specifically The Nightmare Before Christmas." I cast a glance at Jack, who responds to me by beaming happily. And instead of refusing me like she had done with Jack, Merida agrees.
"Okay, I'm down for that."
A few minutes later, all makeup, jewelry, and other accessories are taken off and a pile of blankets is made on the floor in front of the TV. Astrid, Rapunzel, Anna, and I sat on the couch and on the floor in front of us sat Hiccup, Flynn, Kristoff, and Bunny. Next to Hiccup, laying down on their bellies since there's no more room to lean on the couch, is Merida and Moana. Next to Bunny, sitting between him and Jack, who is sitting in the recliner that he scooted closer to the couch-closer to me-is Tooth. She took the liberty of leaning against the recliner, and on the other side of Jack's recliner is Maui.
All of my focus was on Tooth though. Now that the night is becoming calmer, coming to its end since I know everyone is going to be asleep before the first movie ends, my mind is going back to mine and Tooth's conversation earlier this night. The one we had in the bathroom that, in all honesty, has already changed my life so much, and for the better too. If it wasn't for that conversation, I wouldn't have the boyfriend I have now.
Oh geez, I really don't think I should call him that. It's too early; we haven't even gone on an official date, but...I don't know...I like the term.
I wonder if Tooth has questions about how everything went down between Jack and I. She must, but not once did her eyes tell me she was eager for any answers. Maybe she already knows what must have happened. And while I know she gave me her blessing, being in the same room with her after her confession to me and after mine and Jack's confession to each other (among other things), I can't help but feel guilty.
I feel like I'm breaking a Girl Code rule.
My phone buzzes in the pocket of my dress and I pull it out, thankful that Anna, who is sitting beside me, isn't in a nosy mood. The text came from Jack, which read: Looks like we're watching those Halloween movies after all. I admit as much as I would have liked for it to have only been us watching them in my room, having a big sleepover in Mavis's hotel is awesome too
Elsa: Yeah, it really is. I've never had a sleepover with friends before. Anna and I have always slept over at Rapunzel's in the past, who doesn't count since she's family, and now we pretty much live with her, so that also doesn't count. My parents would kill Anna and I if they knew this sleepover consisted of guys too
Jack: Luckily for them, the boys and I are perfect gentlemen
Elsa: Indeed :D
Jack: And just to be clear, you've seen The Nightmare Before Christmas before right? If not I'm probably gonna have to break up with you lol
Break up. As in what people in relationships do. This really is really serious between us. Like...really-really. Smiling, I type back my response.
E: Of course I've seen it. It's a classic.
J: Yaaasss and you are a classy girl with good taste. Both in movies and your men
I held back a giggle and begged my eyes not to look over at him.
E: Don't make me reconsider dating you lol
Dating. As in this is going to be on going. How strange.
J: Ah man :( and here I was about to ask you a really corny question that would have definitely made you reconsider but also blush madly
E: Which is?
He must have already had his text typed into his keyboard bubble because as soon as I sent my text, his text came flying in a millisecond later.
J: Will you be the Sally to my Jack?
I had to bite my bottom lip from giggling and grinning too much and when I finally look up at him, he's already looking at me with a goofy smile on his face. I did indeed blush and it deepened in color as I typed back my response.
E: No I won't be the Sally to your Jack...I'll be your Elsa
Jack's response is slower than his previous ones and I forced myself not to look back at him, keeping my eyes glued to the TV screen the entire one minute he had me wait. When he replies, I tried not to look too eager.
J: Wow. Now THAT'S what I call corny
He's quick to send another text.
J: Haha I'm sorry. I couldn't think of anything flirty since you caused my heart and brain to malfunction. I ruined the moment didn't I?
I slightly nod my head, knowing he would see it. E: Oh? Was that us having a moment? I hadn't realized lol and yeah it was definitely corny wasn't it?
J: You know what that means tho right? You're corny, I'm corny, soooo….We're simply meant to be ;)
I understood his reference and felt my cheeks burn again. However, I'm unable to reply back because Anna is suddenly resting her head on my shoulder, like she used to do so long ago, which drifted my emotions targeted towards Jack to something else. To her and the future of our relationship, which I saw in a positive light now more than ever before.
Yawning and snuggling deeper into the crook of my neck, she says, "Best Halloween ever."
"Yeah," I say, agreeing with her 100% and looking back over at Jack, who is smiling fondly at my sister and I. "It really is."
Trick or not, this whole entire night has been an amazing treat.
And I hope I can experience more nights like this for the rest of my life.
