~ELSA'S POV~
"Are you sure you want to be out tonight?" Asks my aunt from the passenger seat of the car that my uncle decided to drive. Usually, my uncle doesn't go or take us anywhere because he's always busy with work, but for once he decided to spend some quality time with his daughter and nieces, even if it meant dropping them off at an Ice Rink, no longer being in his presence for him to protect and know are safe.
"I can easily turn around right now," Uncle Frederick adds, flashing a hopeful smile.
Honestly, a part of me does want to go back home and stay there, but I had promised Jack I'd be here for his first game. I promised Kristoff too. Truthfully, I don't want to miss it either. What I want is to not feel so...afraid. Paranoid. Tired. Angry.
"As tempting as that sounds, Uncle," I say, my eyes never leaving the car window, gluing my gaze to the building's doors that we're parked a few feet away from. "We made a promise to our friends that we'd be here."
Because it wasn't only Jack and Kristoff who Anna, Rapunzel, and I had made the promise to. It was the rest of our friend group as well, all of whom wanted to spend time with us and cheer us up after today's earlier events.
"And we never break our promises," Rapunzel pipes in. "Ever."
"Plus, we're already here," says Anna, "and that'd be a waste of gas."
Uncle Frederick sighs, disappointed. "Very well then."
"You and auntie can stay and watch the game with us?" Anna suggests as she clicks off her seatbelt, my cousin and I doing the same.
"That's okay, sweetie," says Aunt Arianna, "We don't want to get in the way of you three trying to feel...well...normal again. Today really messed that up, huh? Go have fun, and please be careful. Don't go anywhere alone. All of you stick together okay?"
The three of us said our okays and got out of the car after that.
The walk inside and the purchasing of our tickets felt as though it took a lifetime when really it was only five minutes. Every step felt heavy, just like whenever I would walk into school, only heavier, and it's probably due to the bigger crowd. There are more people, more eyes, more stares.
I'm just praying that everyone will be more focused on the players and game than the three of us.
Astrid was the first to notice us and she held no shyness as she called out to us from where she and the others sat, right in the front row. A perfect spot for me to see Jack in all his glory on the ice.
My lips curl into a small smile at the memory of our first kiss on this exact rink. That was one hell of a night. Wasn't even that long ago, and yet...it feels like a lifetime. So much has happened since then. Actually, if my memory is right, so much had happened right after that kiss, and lord do I want to kiss him again. The desire to crush my lips to his practically has my lips itching right now. And as I glance at the ice, my body wanted nothing more than to put on a pair of skates and let go of all my worries. I want to dance on the ice again.
Or rather fall actually. I'm not as good as I once was, but maybe...maybe that will change one day. Maybe Jack will help me fully reconnect again. Because honestly, that night when I got back on the ice, it was Jack I connected with. Not the ice, not the skates, him.
The thought of us being on the ice again sends butterflies to tickle my stomach. A much better feeling than the knots I've been feeling churning inside me all day.
"It's about time you guys got here," says Moana as she smiles happily. "We were starting to worry…"
That's what they've been doing all day.
Worrying.
"So much so in fact," says her cousin Maui right next to her, "That she almost sent a text. Told her and the rest of this weird squad of yours to give you guys some space."
Merida scoffs. "Don't act like you're not part of the squad you wee grandpa." She ruffles his hair and is quick to dodge when he tries to swat her hands away.
"Hey now! You know very well that it's hard to control curls." He takes his hair tie out and fixes his man-bun that she destroyed.
Our mischievous red-headed friend laughs. "Wee baby."
Maui mocks her and I smile, thankful that everyone is being normal.
"So where's Flynn?" Rapunzel asks, looking around.
"And Hiccup?" Anna adds.
"And Eret?" I join.
With how absent he's been, I feel that it's kind of silly to care. He was there in the beginning and it was his party that led to where Jack and I are now.
"Eret is with Heather probably," Astrid scowls, "As always."
"And the other two are with Jack and Kristoff," finishes Bunny. "Was tempted to go with them, but I already see Jack too much already."
"Poor boy is as nervous as can be," Tooth pipes in, giggling. "He doesn't like to show it, but it's so obvious. At least...to me it is."
A blush creeps to her face and I caught her glancing at me briefly before filling her mouth with popcorn and looking at the empty ice rink.
My stomach burns with light jealousy when I remember her crush on Jack.
Her adopted nephew in the eyes of the law.
Principal North's adopted daughter. Like how Bunny is his adopted son.
I should really tell her that Jack and I are together now, especially since she's the one who convinced me to go for it on Halloween.
I should tell all of my friends about him and I actually.
But it's still too soon. I want Jack to myself, and honestly coming clean to everyone is the least of my worries right now.
The chatting continues, making the minutes go by, and it goes on, even more, when Flynn and Hiccup come back, telling us all about how Jack and Kristoff are pumped up and ready to kick ass.
Everything felt normal and I loved it. I loved that no one brought up what happened this morning. Now granted my sister, cousin, and I told them everything through text, so no more questions needed to be answered, everyone is all caught up, but still.
Movement from the rink catches my attention, as well as the attention of the rest of the audience, and upon setting my eyes on the rink, I see the players all start to enter, gliding gracefully and swiftly on the ice.
I scan over and over for Kristoff and Jack, and when I see them, I smile, big and proud. I'm not really a sporty person or fan, I still zone out whenever I go to football games, but perhaps tonight I might actually pay full attention. I don't want to miss a single move of Jack's and also...I'd rather not get lost in my mind right now.
The game starts in the center circle of the rink with a face-off. This is where the referee drops the puck in between the two opposing players who then fight for control of the puck. And Jack...well his speed was something the other guy didn't see coming. It wasn't even much of a fight honestly, and once Jack took control of the puck, the game clock starts its countdown
I watched in amazement as Jack, Kristoff, and the other players moved on the ice, and when it got a bit violent amongst some players I was on the edge of my seat. Sometimes Football would get a bit violent too, but not like this. I stopped breathing entirely when Jack got involved, trying to stop it, and almost got hit himself. Luckily, he dodged it just in time, and when the referee called for a timeout, Jack skates his way over to us.
"Did you guys see that?" He says to us, smiling, having the time of his life. "Almost lost a tooth over there."
"And you're lucky you didn't!" Tooth declares, glaring at him. "Stop getting involved in fights that don't concern you."
"Hey, I was trying to stop it," Jack defends himself, "And it does concern me since my teammate was involved."
"That teammate being Casey Jones," Tooth reminds him, "Who's notorious for starting trouble."
Jack's coach, Coach Lucius, calls him back over, and he leaves, but not before sending me a wink, to which my stomach made flips at.
I hope nobody else saw that, but they probably did. Luckily, no one made a comment.
Suddenly, a new voice reaches our ears. "Hey, guys! What I miss?" The person then takes a seat next to Flynn at the end of our row, who jumps.
"Jesus Christ!" He cries out, startled. "Who the fuck-"
"Olaf!" Rapunzel, Anna, and I all exclaim in unison.
"Oh, I'm so glad you could make it!" Anna says, then turns in her seat to look at our other friends who sat in the row behind us. "Everyone, this is mine, Elsa's, and Rapunzel's old friend, Olaf. Olaf this is Maui, Moana, Merida, Astrid, Hiccup, Tooth, Bunny, and Flynn. Olaf works at the hospital, which is where we reunited after 6 years."
Everyone said their friendly hellos and talked to him as the game kept on. It was mostly him, Tooth, and Anna who talked the most though.
"Oh this is all so thrilling," he says as he watches the players on the rink, "I've never been to a hockey game before."
"Neither have Anna and I," I say, silently agreeing that everything is indeed thrilling.
"Ya know," he continues, "I've never been to any sporty game before. This is a first for me."
Olaf sat in the middle of my sister and I, with Rapunzel next to Anna, and Flynn next to Raunzel, so Flynn had to reach forward in his seat and lean over to talk to him. He was almost in Rapunzel's lap and I could see her face lightly turn red. "Well, let me just say," Flynn says in a smug tone, "that football is waaay better. And warmer. You'll enjoy that one more. You should come to our last game next Friday."
"Ooohhh," Olaf says in awe, "I think I just might."
I smile at this, my heart filling with warmth. "It really would be great to hang out more often, Olaf. I'd rather not see you again in the hospital."
My little joke got a laugh out of my sister. "Ha! I second that."
"And I third it," says Rapunzel.
Just then, the announcer catches our attention by telling us to look up at the scoreboard, which showed people in the crowd on the screen. The camera scanned over the audience and would stop on a few couples, putting hearts around them, and prompting them to kiss. The kisscam. Some couples wouldn't kiss, too embarrassed, while others weren't shy at all. It got some smiles and giggles out of me, a nice feeling, but when the camera stopped on my group and I, my eyes widened.
Oh my god!
Maui and Moana opened their jackets, revealing their shirts that said We're Cousins, which got the audience laughing. Merida and Hiccup were next and they opened their jackets too, revealing the exact same shirt. We're Cousins too. The crowd ended up roaring at this. Their laughter turned to ooohhhs when Astrid kissed Hiccup cheek, surprising us all. Hiccup turned bright red, redder than his cousin's curly hair, and Astrid's face did the same, though not a bright.
"It's tradition," she growled out, obviously embarrassed. "That's all."
"Y-yeah," Hiccup stammers out, his eyes looking at everything but her. "Tradition. Got it. Yep. Cool. Um...yeah."
"You two are fucking disasters," Merida laughs out loud, doing her unlady snorting, which cracks us all up.
"Shut up!" They say in unison, which makes us laugh more.
Next was Bunny and Tooth. I was expecting them to open their jackets too, to reveal shirts that said We're adopted siblings. But they didn't. Instead, Bunny kisses Tooth's forehead, while she kisses his cheek. Siblings, blood related or not, do that, it's normal, but...something in Bunny's eyes told me that meant way more to him than he'd ever like to admit.
The screen then showed me, Olaf, and Anna. I didn't know if the audience expected Olaf and I to kiss, or him and my sister. So I turn to them and say, "Double cheek kiss?"
Anna nods, while Olaf says, "Oh I'm so lucky!"
I briefly roll my eyes and lean forward to kiss his cheek, going in at the same time as Anna. The crowd cheers at this, and when I pull away, Olaf is a blushing mess.
"Guys, I think I'm melting!"
Last in our group was Flynn and Rapunzel. It's obvious they both have a thing for each other, and to be honest, I truly thought Flynn was going to go for it. I mean, he's very flirtatious, very bold, but there are time that his boldness isn't as strong when it comes to my cousin. And this just happens to be one of those times. He looks at her ackwardly and then suddenly gives her his infamous smolder, which makes Rapunzel laugh.
And then she surprises us all.
More so than Astrid.
She grabs the collar of Flynn's jacket and pulls him forward.
Kissing him straight on the lips.
All of our jaws dropped, and they fell completely off our faces when Flynn deepens the kiss.
Welp...if they weren't anything before, they certainly will be after this.
Rapunzel pulls away from the kiss, breathless, and looks at him in disbelief. As if she couldn't believe she just did that. And while she and Flynn looked at each other in shock, everyone in the group was looking at them, not saying anything, waiting impatiently for what's to come next.
Rapunzel pats his shoulder and says, "Tradition." Then she turns back in her seat and looks up at the screen.
That got our group talking at the same time.
"Oh no she didn't!"-Maui.
"You did not just say that! Did she just say that?"-Tooth.
"Talk about a plot twist."-Moana.
"Tradition my ass! Also that's plagarism."-Astrid.
"I've never been so proud in my entire life!"-Anna.
"That was disgusting."-Merida.
"Lucky."-Hiccup.
Hiccup's remark caught Astrid's attention, and she honestly looked offended. "Oh, I'm sorry, is the talking fishbone butthurt that I didn't kiss him on the lips? Was my cheek kiss not enough for you?"
Hiccup's eyes widen in fear. "No! I-I mean, yes, it was enough. The no was for-"
"Because I'll have you know," the fiery blonde continues, "that when I kiss you on the lips, it's certainly not going to be in front of a crowd of people."
Hiccup's eyes narrow in confusion. "Wait, when? What-"
The horn goes off for the next part of the game, leaving their conversation to disappear for another time, but not before I hear Merida mutter, "Fucking disasters."
...
The third period of the game ended with nearly everyone on their feet, watching intensely as the puck went between the opposing players. I stayed in my seat, until the very last moment. Because in that moment, Jack had scored the last winning point for his team, and I couldn't help but jump to my feet and cheer with everyone else. My boy just won the first game of the season!
Jack's teammates all circled him and cheered, fist-pumping him and patting him on the back. And while they celebrated on the ice, my friends and I decided to wait for him by their locker room.
"Man, that whole game was crazy!" Olaf exclaims. "I mean, did you see the way they fought for that circle thing?"
"No, what's crazy is that you," Flynn points to my cousin, "Kissed me straight on the lips. Don't think I'm just gonna let that slide, Rapunzel."
Ope. He rarely ever uses her real name. He must be serious.
Rapunzel acts nonchalantly. "It was just a kiss. Don't make it weird. Friends kiss."
Flynn scoffs. "I think the fuck not-"
Suddenly a familiar voice reaches our ears. "Hey, guys."
We turn and see Eret and Heather making their way toward us, arms locked together. They really do make a cute couple. Astrid would say otherwise though. Suddenly, I remember what she told me about Heather. About how she's sorry that Hans did all that to me. I wonder if she was being genuine or trying to get under Astrid's skin.
"Well, look who decided to show up," says Flynn. "Hate to break it to ya, but the game's over."
Eret rolls his eyes. "I've been here the entire time, stupid. I know I'm not the greatest friend, but I still wanted to show my support to Jack, Kristoff, and the others. Believe it or not, Flynn, I care."
"Uh-huh. Sure."
Eret sighs and looks like he's going to say more, but Heather intervenes. "Regardless, we'd like for you to tell Jack and the others that we said congratulations. And Elsa," my heart jolts when she says my name, bringing the attention to me, "I don't know if Astrid told you already, but...I'm really sorry about what happened with...you know."
I open my mouth to thank her, but Astrid beat me to it. "Of course, I told her. Are you done now?"
Heather nods, unphased by Astrid's attitude. "Yeah. See you guys later." She goes to turn but stops to wave at Hiccup. "See ya later, Hiccup."
Hiccup waves back. "Bye, Heather."
Astrid knocks his hand down and scowls at him, saying nothing, much to the boy's confusion.
Heather and Eret leave after that, causing the atmosphere to be heavily awkward.
"Man," says Maui, "you teenagers are so petty." He laughs at this. "I need to hang out with you guys more often. It's quite fun."
"You hang out with us a lot already," says Moana as she zips up her jacket, shivering.
"And honestly, it's kind of weird," Merida comments. "You're like...1,000 years old and you're hanging out with teenagers? Creep."
Maui scoffs. "You know you all love me. How can you not? I mean, I'm funny, I'm attractive, I'm intimidating, also I'm an adult. You guys need an adult to supervise, especially since...well...um... never mind."
I noticed his glance and knew exactly what he meant, and honestly, it rubbed me off the wrong way. I don't need a babysitter. I don't need to be watched. I think I'm being watched enough already. By nosy people and by my so-called stalker-savior. As politely as I could, I said, "I don't need adult supervision. Thanks."
A look of guilt flashes in his eyes. "I didn't mean any harm by saying that. I just-"
"I know," I cut him off, feeling a little guilty myself at my irritability, "But trust me, I'm not going to wonder off on my own again. Not for a long while."
The atmosphere is even more awkward again, but luckily it was short-lived when Jack and Kristoff appear. They were talking, most likely about what they did in the game, and when they see us, their smiles widen. Jack, however, took off a second later, rushing over to me. I didn't have enough time to prepare, because the next thing I know I'm in his arms, he picks me up, and twirls me around.
"Jack!" I squeal, embarrassed but also enjoying his playfulness. "Put me down!"
"Nope!" He says, still spinning me. "You've had me worried all day. Plus, I just won the first game of the season. Let me have this reward." He then sets me down to my feet, still holding me in his embrace, and does something I definitely didn't see coming.
Something I've been yearning for him to do again.
But not in front of a whole bunch of eyes.
He kisses me.
Right in front of our whole friend group.
