Sofia and Alicia are out running errands, leaving Ricardo behind with the napping babies. He stands over Clara and Mariana's cribs with a small smile on his face, listening to Andre play behind him.
"Daddy," the little boy whispers, walking up to him. "Can we go outside?"
"Sorry, mi hijo," Ricardo murmurs. "Not right now, I have to keep an eye on your little sisters, and they're fast asleep so we can't bring them with us."
Andre pouts, hugging the Ricardo wrestle buddy Ricardo had given him as soon as he'd had one successfully made. "Maybe later?" he asks, eyes wide and hopefully. "Please, papa?"
"We'll try," Ricardo says with a small nod and smile. "As long as the weather holds up."
"How much longer will mama and Sofia be gone?" he asks, burying his face into the soft black surface of the toy.
"I don't know," Ricardo says, kneeling down to wrap an arm around Andre and drawing him in closer. "They had a few places to go, so it'll probably be a little bit. I know it's not really fun to hang out inside when it's warm and sunny outside, but we'll make up for it, I promise."
Andre sighs, such a beleaguered sound for such a little guy that Ricardo can't help but smile as he cuddles him closer. "Alright, papa," he relents, heading back to the corner to play with the wrestle buddy and a couple of other, quieter toys he has with him.
Ricardo hums, glancing over at him with a fond smile before noticing movement out of the corner of his eye. Mariana is stirring, yawning as she waves her fists around, looking grumpy. "Oh," he murmurs, picking her up before she can begin crying. "What's wrong, baby girl? You hungry?" He nuzzles into her as he walks her around the room, hoping she doesn't wake Clara up.
She whimpers, and he smiles, rubbing her back soothingly. "Andre," he whispers, and the little boy looks up. "Wanna hold your sister?"
"Yes," Andre says, getting up from his toys and rushing over to the small couch set up just for this purpose. Once he's settled, Ricardo kneels down next to him and puts the baby in his arms, checking his grip before smiling at them.
"There you go," he says quietly, resting a hand under Mariana's head and smiling down at Andre. "You're a good big brother."
He looks pleased at this, staring down at Mariana as she blinks up at him. "I am, papa?"
"Yeah, kiddo. You remind me a lot of myself when Auntie was this age."
Andre blinks at him and then looks back down at his sister, watching as she waves her fists around. "I can't picture auntie this little," he admits.
Ricardo laughs. "Well, she definitely was," he says, remembering their childhood together. He sighs and leans in, pressing a kiss to Andre's forehead, then Mariana's.
His childhood wasn't the greatest, he and his sister both going through things that he vows his own children will never come close to experiencing. "Love you, Andre," he murmurs.
Andre blinks up at him, smiling. "Love you too, papa," he says.
It's all Ricardo needs.
