As Sango crumbled to the ground, she wept for Kagome. She couldn't believe any of this was real. After all this time spent in this world, they were just now learning a painful truth regarding the boy she had fallen in love with.
Even as he watched his companion cry, Miroku sighed and attempted to console her. As much as it hurt him to do this, he knew that it was only right to put a wedge between the two. This could not go on; it would only hurt Kagome and Link in the end. It was time to put an end to their relationship and finish their duties in this world.
While bent down and rubbing her shoulders soothingly, he whispered to his beloved softly. "Come Sango. We should talk with Inuyasha," Yet he had a feeling talking it out with the half demon would not go as smoothly as he hoped.
After helping her to her feet, the two made their way back to camp, yet as soon as they viewed the flames of the fire ahead, they heard Kagome's soft laughter resonate through the forest.
"Are you really trying this again, Kagome?" Link's voice asked, a small groan escaping him.
"Come on, let me touch them!" Kagome pressed surprisingly seductively.
Sango and Miroku came to a complete stop a few trees away from the camp, and as they looked on, they saw the priestess and young swordsman battling it out for dominance against one another. Not wanting to interrupt their open display of affection, Sango pulled Miroku down behind a bush, and they looked on.
As she tried in vain to reach out and grasp his pointed ears, Link attempted to keep her at a small distance, but the little priestess wasn't making it easy on him. With his hands fully grasping both her small wrists, she was surprisingly capable of pushing all her weight onto him, and he laughed softly at her attempts to touch his ears. "Last I remember, you forced yourself on me, and we both know what happened after that."
At the very sight of Kagome attempting to climb onto of Link, all modesty replaced by the seductive stare in her eyes and Link's surprising smirk, Sango blushed and covered her eyes. What were they doing?
Despite the slayer becoming flustered at the scene, Miroku was not the least bit thrilled at what he saw. In fact, he clenched his staff tightly. This was going too far.
"Touch what?" Sango whispered to Miroku. "What happened after?" It didn't make sense. Back at the Hot Springs, Kagome had explained she and Link hadn't gone that far yet. Surely nothing besides kissing had developed between the two.
"I forced myself onto you?" Kagome asked questionably. Pausing momentarily as she fought against Link, the priestess pondered to herself. Remembering, she smirked deviously at Link.
While their fingers were entwined with one another's, Link was taken aback by her devious smirk and his force against her weakened slightly. It was then he found himself pushed to the ground onto his back with her above him on all fours, smiling at him.
"That's a risk I'm willing to take," She responded back before lowering herself onto him and capturing his lips with her own.
Blushing profusely at his predicament and unaware of the watchful eyes of their two companions witnessing the entire scene, Link found himself stuttering embarrassedly as she pulled away. "K-K-Kagome …" Link hadn't been prepared for her rather bold behavior nor her kiss, but he allowed her to do as she pleased.
Again she kissed him and it was short, merely a simple peck before Kagome pulled away, blushing just as Link. Yet before she could give him a chance to say anything, she leaned in once more and kissed him; this time her lips pressed against his more passionately and much longer. The act was so intimate it left the watchful eyes of Sango and Miroku flustered.
Closing his eyes, Link found his hands suddenly resting at her waist, his own lips moving against Kagome's. While lost in the moment, he felt her fingers caressing his ears and he smiled against her kiss. Her touch relaxed him and he fell into a stupor of just the two of them. Reaching up, he placed a hand behind Kagome's neck and drew her deeper into his kiss, much to her surprise.
Realizing their intimacy was going too fast, Sango chanced a glance at Miroku, who was none too keen on the romantic act between the two. A slight vein had appeared on the side of his head. He looked as if he were a father who had caught his daughter in the acts of a forbidden love. Rather than suddenly show up and embarrass the two, Sango searched around and spotted a small twig. Taking it quickly, she snapped it in half, and the sound resonated loudly.
To their relief, a reaction happened between Kagome and Link, but it was not one they had hoped for when they suddenly heard Link cry out in pain. Kagome had sprung up so quickly, ending the kiss abruptly that she suddenly lost her balance and fell onto his lap rather hard.
A painful groan escaped his throat and his elbows almost gave out on him while he had attempted to sit up.
Blushing profusely, Kagome quickly apologized to him, though before she could move away, she felt something rather hard rub against her most intimate area beneath her green skirt; it certainly didn't help matters when he kept moving in his painful struggle. For the first time in her life, she had felt it, a man's erection.
Understanding passed through Link's gaze just as Kagome's stare fell below his belt, and he blushed before catching her gaze with his own. It was as if they had fallen under a strange trance, and neither felt a reason to move away from the other, but their dazed longings were short-lived.
When another twig snapped, this one much louder, Kagome and Link realized their situation and immediately separated from each other. The priestess fixed her blouse and skirt and ran her fingers through her slightly messy hair while Link fully turned himself away from Kagome, his back turned as he sat there hiding his shame.
A moment passed and Sango and Miroku realized it was time to walk back into camp. As the slayer offered a small smile to the priestess who looked slightly composed and red in the face, Miroku on the other hand did not seem pleased.
"Oh welcome back guys!" She replied, watching as the slayer and monk placed their large piles of wood upon the ground a small distance away from the burning camp fire. They had been gone for a short time and had collected so much that she was sure they wouldn't need so much. "That's a lot of wood. That'll last us all night!" Suddenly realization hit her and she realized she had said something rather dirty without meaning it. Embarrassed, she covered her mouth, but Sango and Miroku didn't seem to catch on.
Sitting down in front of the priestess, Sango couldn't help but blush slightly at their earlier actions. "Is something wrong?"
Kagome shook her head, smiling like an idiot. "N-no I'm fine."
As he approached the two, Miroku turned his gaze to Link's whose back remained turned to them. "Link," He called rather harshly than what he meant to. "Are you okay? You seem a little stiff."
At the monk's comment, Link stiffened and his gaze fell onto the slight bulge in his beige pants. He really didn't want to explain the situation; it was rather embarrassing.
Because Link was in a bad spot, Kagome immediately took action and scooted closer to his side before placing her hands upon his shoulders, massaging them lightly, much to Link's sudden discomfort. "Oh I was just about to give him a massage! H-he was telling me earlier how stiff … "
Noticing the glare Link sent her from over his shoulder, Kagome found herself sweat dropping. She hadn't meant to say it. 'I can't stop … why did I say it like that?' Gosh what was wrong with her? Kagome wasn't one for having a dirty mind, but for some reason, she couldn't get the image of his… Realizing her mind was going there, Kagome shook her head to clear her thoughts. 'No what are you doing Kagome? Bad, bad bad!' "from all the traveling this morning," She finished, laughing as she continued rubbing his shoulders.
"He sure looks it…" Miroku replied before sitting down to tend the fire; he forced himself to look away from the boy for now. As of now, he was too riled up to say anything.
Since they took the bait, Link and Kagome both released a breath, and as Kagome spent the next few minutes attempting to remove a knot from his shoulders that wasn't even there, Link finally was able to turn around and converse normally.
It wasn't long before Inuyasha returned with their supper for the night. The half demon had successfully caught a small boar and two small rabbits during his hunt, and the group stared hungrily. "I'm back. There wasn't much out there to find."
"It's been some time since we've had rabbits," Miroku commented, pleased with the catch.
While Inuyasha sauntered off in the direction of the river just outside of camp, Kagome looked at Link, noting his pale complexion from earlier when she sat on him too roughly. She hadn't meant to and she felt awfully terribly about it. It was then that she decided that she would give Link a little breather while chasing after Inuyasha. "Hey wait for me, Inuyasha!"
Inuyasha stopped and turned towards her baffled. "Huh? What do you want? I'm just going to gut our supper."
Taking the dead rabbits in her hands, Kagome only smiled. "I know. Let me help out."
He blinked at her. "Why? You never volunteer and you always complain about the smell and that you don't want guts on your hands."
"Well I decided that it's about time I learned!" She said with determination. She was already fifteen, so it couldn't be all that terrible, right?
Shrugging at her, and glad for the extra pair of hands, Inuyasha led the way with a blushing priestess following behind.
The moment that the two disappeared from view, a shadow loomed overhead the group, and looking up, they saw Kirara and Shippo above them.
"We're back!" Shippo replied before leaping off of the twin tailed feline and onto Link's lap, much to Link's displeasure.
Crying out suddenly, Link hunched over and held himself, hoping to soothe the throbbing he felt. He tried not to make a big deal out of it, but it was not something he could overlook so easily.
Seeing that his friend was in pain, Shippo leapt off his lap and placed his two hands onto his legs, trying to find the source of Link's pain. Was he injured somewhere? "Hey are you okay? I'm sorry! Are you hurt somewhere?" Shippo asked, searching him for any signs of a wound. "You don't look so good…"
"I'm okay…" Link assured him with a weak smile.
Shippo wasn't sure if he should believe him or not. Link certainly looked in pain, but he was putting on a fake front so as not to worry him. "Well you look a little pale. You better not let Kagome see you like that or …" Sudden realization came over him and the small child searched the camp curiously. "Hey where are Kagome and Inuyasha?"
"They went to clean our dinner for the night. They'll be back soon," Sango replied, stroking Kirara on her lap lovingly.
Was that true? "Really? Kagome's never cleaned the food before. She always says it's gross." Looking back at Link, Shippo grinned. Maybe she was trying to impress Link.
Pleased Shippo had returned unharmed and Kirara just as well, Sango patted the empty space beside her. "So how was your journey back to Southern Swamp? Did Hideki make it back alright?"
Smiling, Shippo scampered to the slayer's side and found himself telling all sorts of things that had happened since his absence. "It was great! Hideki was a little afraid of falling off Kirara, but he got used to it after a while. When we got there, we saw the two witches and they asked us to join them for some tea, but Hideki and I didn't have time to stay and chat. When we told them we were off to bring Hideki back to the Palace, they all but escorted us there themselves!"
While hearing Shippo's story, Link finally felt the pain ease away, and it wasn't long before Shippo was sitting beside him, waving his hands around excitedly.
"Everyone was celebrating! There were lots of Dekus crying too, and Hideki reunited with his dad and they were both crying," Shippo smiled at the memory. "Then the Princess came out and she was all over him!" Leaning into Link, Shippo whispered into his ear. "I think she might like Hideki."
Hearing this, Sango and Miroku laughed.
"Well you must tell Kagome and Inuyasha when they return," Sango replied.
Shippo eagerly nodded before pulling something small and wooden out from his pocket. "I will. The Princess told me to give this to Kagome. She said it was a gift as thanks for looking out for Hideki." He showed them the small intricate hairpin with small painted flowers along the edges. There was a faint and pleasant aroma that emanated from it.
OOO
As she absentmindedly skinned her first rabbit, with Inuyasha gutting the board right beside her, the priestess found herself lost in thought; she was thinking of her earlier actions with Link and the thought had her blushing once more.
She honestly couldn't believe what had come over her. After the others left to get firewood and to hunt for their supper, Kagome remembered introducing Link to a game of Go Fish with her deck of cards. It was a simple game without many rules, and she was sure Link would find it enjoyable enough.
Flash Back
"Go Fish," Kagome said after shaking her head to Link's question if she had any queens of hearts. While she watched him draw a card, Kagome found that she just couldn't concentrate on the game, as fun as it was.
Her eyes wandered towards Link's face, following along the curvature of his almond shaped blue eyes to his beautiful blonde locks fanning around his face and tied slightly behind him in a short ponytail. Once before she had touched his hair and it had felt very soft under her touch. There was an instance where she pondered what he might look like with longer hair, especially pulled up in a high ponytail; the very image had her blushing.
Fanning herself with the few cards in her hands, she attempted to refocus onto the game. Fortunately, Link hadn't noticed her sudden discomfort and was calmly staring at his cards thoughtfully.
"Do you have any fours?" He asked, but she replied with a no to which he drew another card.
"Do you have any Jacks?" She asked. When he searched through his handful of cards, he pulled two out and handed them to her.
As the game continued, they were very close to finishing the game. Unfortunately, Kagome was too caught up in staring at Link to notice that she was losing, but it wasn't so much of a big deal to her.
"Do you have any Kings?" Link asked. When he noticed she was simply staring at him in a daze and not listening, Link blinked. "Kagome?"
Snapping out of her daydream, Kagome refocused on him. She hadn't heard what he said and blushed. "Huh?"
"Do you have any Kings?" He asked again, smiling at her reaction.
Looking through her cards, Kagome tried to hide her face from Link's view. Somehow, she had a feeling he must have noticed her staring at him. Shaking her head, she searched through her cards, and did not find any Kings. "Go fish."
While Link drew another card, Kagome's thoughts once again returned to Link. For some reason, she couldn't help but stare at his lips. Images of their first kiss on the hillside filled her thoughts, but she felt that her first full on kiss happened a few days ago back in the ancient past of Termina. It was during their search for Inuyasha when she and Link had stopped to avoid the storm by hiding inside the bark of a tree. That was the moment she and Link shared their first passionate and long kiss together and had become much closer in regards to their relationship.
Noting her smile from across him, Link wondered what was going through her mind. Was it possible she had a good hand to use against him in this game of Go Fish? If that was so, then he realized he should force his attention away from her and onto the game more seriously.
The feeling of his lips upon hers at the time had been amazing and had sent her mind spinning. There was a brief moment where she wondered if it was Link's first kiss, but he seemed more experienced than her. Thinking back on it, Kagome remembered sharing her first kiss with Inuyasha and it had been awkward and somewhat clumsy at first; it didn't give her sparks and had felt dull and almost one sided, but with Link it felt real.
Was it bad that she wanted to kiss Link right now? 'I mean, there shouldn't be a problem, right? He is technically my boyfriend … so … if I wanted to kiss him it should be fine.'
It wasn't just Link's kiss that had Kagome's mind spinning with lustful thoughts. Looking at his ears, Kagome felt her mouth part slightly in awe. In a way she envied him for having such long and beautiful pointed ears. Right now she also wanted to reach out and touch them again. Thinking about it had her running her thumbs in a circular motion over her cards. "His beautiful pointed ears…"
Glancing up suddenly at the words that had left the priestess's mouth, Link found himself blushing at the sight of Kagome. Her eyes were clouded over, staring at him deeply with a look he had never seen before. "Uh … Kagome? What did you say?"
Blinking, Kagome suddenly gasped and covered her mouth with her cards. "Oh my gosh! Did you hear me?" She asked, and from his laugh, she guessed it was so.
"Every bit of my 'beautiful pointed ears' heard you," He laughed at her suspense, finding her reaction rather cute. However, his laughter faded when he suddenly felt a pair of hands grasp his ears suddenly, tugging on them much to his surprise. "Stop," He protested, and attempted to pull himself away from her touch. Link hadn't noticed her approach him so closely.
She pouted and lowered her hands. "But why?"
How could he explain to her that her simple caress upon his ears aroused him greatly? "They're sensitive."
Kagome smiled at this. "Okay … I just won't pull on them!" She replied before throwing herself onto him, her chest brushing against his before she reached for his ears once more.
At his surprised gasp, she began making circular motions with her thumbs against the lobes of his ears. For a moment, he seemed to like to it, melting in her touch.
"Kagome … you must really stop…" He found his breathing a little heavy as her breath brushed across his cheek. Her ministrations to his ears were nice, but with her so close to him, he began to feel a certain eagerness build up inside him. When she refused to stop, he had no choice but to take her wrists and pull them from his ears gently. "Kagome."
Refusing to give up, Kagome pulled against his strength to break free and reach out once more, but he would not have it. Eventually their fingers became entwined with the others' fighting for dominance as they pushed against each other.
"Are you really trying this again, Kagome?" Link asked, a small groan escaping him when she refused to give up.
"Come on, let me touch them!" She pressed, the words falling from her mouth somewhat seductively.
"I forced myself onto you?" Kagome asked questionably. Pausing momentarily as she fought against Link, the priestess pondered to herself. Remembering, she smirked deviously.
End Flash Back
Gasping at the memory that happened a few moments earlier, Kagome couldn't help but blush from head to toe. What on earth had come over her? "I can't believe I just did that!"
At her unexpected outburst from beside her, Inuyasha jumped and squinted at the priestess. What the hell was she freaking out about now?
Looking at the skinned rabbit at her feet and the half skinned rabbit in her hands, Inuyasha placed a hand on her shoulder. "What are you complaining about? You're doing just fine!" He pointed to the rabbits. He didn't get what the big deal about skinning animals was if they planned to eat them. "I thought you said you wouldn't complain this time?" He questioned, and at her surprised look, he continued. "Listen it might not look perfect but it's good enough," He rolled his eyes at her dramatic cry over the rabbit.
Looking at the rabbit at her feet and the rabbit in her hands, Kagome frowned. She couldn't believe she actually did it. It didn't seem as gross as she had thought it would be. Looking back at the boar Inuyasha was gutting earlier, Kagome saw the blood and organs lying off to the side and his hand bloodied up to his wrist.
Kagome made a face suddenly and almost vomited in her mouth. Maybe skinning was okay but she certainly wasn't going to gut an innocent animal!
Noticing her attention shift to the bore, Inuyasha noticed how her face paled slightly and he shook his head. "Why don't you go wash up and head back to camp. I'll take over from here. I'm pretty sure Shippo will be happy to see you."
A light lit up in her eyes suddenly at the mention of Shippo. "He and Kirara are back?"
He nodded. "I smelled their scent a few minutes ago."
Elated by this, Kagome hurriedly thanked Inuyasha and quickly washed her hands before running back to camp to greet the small child and feline. The moment she arrived, she saw her friends gathered around the fire, talking, and she heard Shippo's voice the loudest of her friends. "Shippo!"
Looking away from the others, Shippo's eyes lit up and a wide smile spread across his face at the sight of Kagome running towards him with open arms. "Kagome!" As he bounded towards her, he leapt into her arms and Kagome held him close to her chest.
"I didn't think you'd be back until the morning," Kagome replied, smothering him with kisses and hugs. "I missed you," She cooed, and he replied that he missed her as well.
Sitting down beside Link, she listened to Shippo as he retold his adventures during his absence from the group. He explained to Kagome that Hideki had returned home safely and that there was a big celebration upon his return.
Kagome felt a warmth in her chest from hearing this. "I'm sure his father was glad to see he was alive and safe. I miss him already."
Nodding at this, Shippo suddenly remembered he had something to give to his mother. Searching his pockets, he pulled out a small hairpin and handed it to Kagome. "The Princess wanted to express her thanks for looking out for Hideki and bringing him back home."
As she took the small hairpin, she awed at the intricate flowers painted upon its surface. Ever so gently, she placed it in her hair behind her ears. "How do I look?"
Shippo grinned at her. "Beautiful!"
It wasn't long before Inuyasha finally returned with the food. He had expertly sliced them into thin pieces before sticking the meat onto sticks to place over the fire. A few mushrooms had been gathered as well and they were also roasting near the fire.
After Inuyasha had seated himself with the others, a heavy silence fell upon them. It was a silence that puzzled Shippo, and the child looked around at everyone.
Unable to control his thoughts, Miroku abruptly stood up from beside the half demon, and it had caught the attention of all his friends. "Inuyasha, could you help me collect some more firewood?" He asked somewhat sternly.
Blinking at this and staring past the monk at the large quantity of wood stacked off to the side of camp, Inuyasha begrudgingly nodded. "Sure…" The half demon wasn't stupid; the monk was clearly upset about something.
As Inuyasha followed after Miroku, Shippo and the others watched as Sango excused herself to follow after them. The gang looked amongst themselves in confusion. They hadn't a clue what was going on.
"But we already have enough firewood for three nights!" The child exclaimed confusedly. Looking at Kagome, whose lap he was seated in, he tugged on her white blouse. "Hey, did something happen while I was gone?"
Kagome and Link exchanged looks. They weren't sure. They honestly hadn't noticed; after all, they had been a little caught up in their distractions for a while.
"What do you mean?" Kagome asked Shippo.
The child frowned before looking back in the direction his three friends had left in. Something was definitely going on. "Well while you were with Inuyasha cleaning our food, I noticed Miroku was unusually quiet and he looked upset about something…" He admitted. Somehow he doubted he and Sango had a fight because she seemed normal and not angry.
"Really?" Kagome asked.
Now that he thought about it, Link realized he had noticed something off about his companion as well. Ever since this morning, he was sure Miroku had been looking in his direction, almost glaring, then when he and Sango returned from gathering firewood, there was a strange tension in the air and in the manner in which he spoke. "I admit I have noticed somewhat. Perhaps he is bothered by something?"
Kagome wondered what could be wrong with her friend Miroku.
"Did he and Inuyasha have some kind of argument that you remember?" Shippo asked.
Both the priestess and swordsman shook their heads negatively at his reply which only confused the child further.
Smelling something burn, Shippo suddenly saw that the meat had caught fire and waved his hands frantically upon Kagome's lap. "Kagome the meat!" He cried.
Surprised, the priestess immediately reached over and pulled the stick with the sliced meat away from the fire before blowing on it. Fortunately they had managed to save it in time.
OOO
Venturing rather far and out of earshot of the camp, Inuyasha couldn't help but grow agitated at the lack of communication between his two friends and him. Something was definitely wrong. When Miroku refused to stop and discuss whatever situation had happened, Inuyasha took the lead first. When Miroku realized he had stopped following, he turned to Inuyasha.
"What the hell is this all about?" He asked, watching the slayer and monk exchange looks. "If you've got something to say, then say it. You guys are starting to piss me off!" Upon noticing the monk staring at him rather hard, Inuyasha squinted his eyes and crossed his arms. "And don't think I haven't noticed you're strange behavior Miroku. If you've got something to say, then say it! Stop glaring at everyone!"
At his outburst, Sango seemed almost apologetic and lowered her head. "Inuyasha it's about Link … we …"
"We what?" Inuyasha asked. What the hell was going on with these two? Why were they mentioning Link all of a sudden?
Before Sango could say any more, Miroku stepped towards Inuyasha. It was about time for Inuyasha to confess the truth and take responsibility. "Don't try to hide it from us any longer Inuyasha. The peddler has informed me earlier today about the fate of Link and this world. Termina is an afterlife and Link is no longer a part of the living."
Amber eyes widened at his response. What the hell? For a moment, he didn't know what to say. Inuyasha and Link had warned that peddler not to say anything until Link was ready! Now things have turned out like this. Fuck! "Listen … I was … Link was going to tell you guys eventually but—"
"Eventually?" The monk questioned agitatedly. "And how long were you both planning on waiting? Until after summoning the Goddesses?" He asked, and at this Inuyasha glared.
In hopes of calming Miroku down, Sango placed a hand upon his arm, but he was insistent on ignoring her. Sighing, the slayer looked to Inuyasha. "How could you keep something like this from us? If you had told us sooner…"
His friends were ganging up on him, and Inuyasha had the sudden urge to crack his knuckles and raise his fist, but he held back. It was that fucking peddler's fault. Why did he have to ruin things right now? Couldn't he have at least given them a chance first to see what would happen in the end? "And IF I had told you guys sooner, it wouldn't have changed anything!" He barked back. "It would not have brought him back to life!"
Miroku nodded. "Exactly! Link is dead, Inuyasha. And here Kagome has this small hope that she and Link will be together in the end; you know it's impossible. How do you think she is going to react when she finds out? Are you just going to wait until the very last moment before crushing her?!"
Annoyed, the half demon stepped closer to the monk and in one swift motion, grasped him by the collar of his robes and glowered at him. "You think I haven't already thought about that? Of course I'm concerned about Kagome's feelings! We both are. Why do you think it's so difficult right now for Link to tell her?!"
Sango frowned, but she understood where Inuyasha was getting at.
The half demon continued. "Just imagine if it were you in Link's place. How would you tell Sango?" Looking at the despondent slayer, Inuyasha frowned and shook his head. "Of course she would want to know, but then no guy would want to make a girl worry. If it were me, Miroku, I wouldn't say anything until I was absolutely certain it was the end for me."
Grabbing his wrists, Miroku pushed the half demon off him. "And what makes you think the Goddesses will grant such a wish?" He asked, and at this, the half demon blinked in surprise. "I overheard you and Link talking earlier. You even had the audacity to bring up using the Sacred Jewel!"
"Damn it! You're not getting it!" Inuyasha remarked, cracking his knuckles.
A strange shadow fell over the monk and his eyes suddenly became dark and unseeing. "No, I perfectly understand, Inuyasha. I understand how close your relationship with Link has become since our arrival to this world, but what makes you think that there is even the tiniest bit of hope out there for him? Link is dead. There's no saving him. From the very beginning, our duty was to establish peace in this world! If we change that, this purgatory curse will remain until it's destroyed!"
Because of all of this, Inuyasha scratched his head irritably. Damn it this was pissing him off! Why couldn't they side with him? "I don't know! I kept thinking maybe there would be a chance we could ask for a second wish!"
Sango frowned. "That was your plan? You're going to ask for more wishes? The Great Fairy told us we only have one wish, Inuyasha."
"Well I'm trying okay! At least I'm trying to do something for Kagome and Link!" Inuyasha barked back defensively. Couldn't Sango and Miroku see that? Were they blind?
Of course Miroku only shook his head in disapproval. Foolish. If Inuyasha really cared, he would think more of Kagome's feelings and the cold hard truth she'd later figure out. "The only thing we can do now is tell her the truth," He explained, and at the sight of Inuyasha turning his back on him and Sango, Miroku reached out and grabbed his shoulder. "She has a right to know, Inuyasha."
"Get the fuck off!" Inuyasha pushed his hand away before turning to face the two. "Have you lost your mind Miroku? Do you know how she will act for the rest of our travels if she knew? She would be broken if not worse, it would destroy her!" He explained, hoping it would dawn on them from past experiences. "I'm not about to have that happen. I'd rather have her smiling her ass off than seeing her look dead inside! I don't want to see that look on her again…"
Sango frowned. No she didn't want to see Kagome suffer. When she saw the sadness radiate from Inuyasha, she knew he regretted his past behaviors with Kikyou and how it had upset the priestess; it was one of the biggest reasons it never worked out for the two. "I'd rather not see her like that again," She replied dismally. I really do wish she and Link could be together, Inuyasha. I am hoping there is a chance the Goddesses will allow us a second wish, but we can't be certain…"
What was the right choice? Was it okay to let Kagome suffer with the truth or was it okay to let her enjoy her final moments with Link until the very end? Was there a chance the Goddesses would give them a second wish? Should she listen to Miroku or Inuyasha? Sango didn't know. She was confused.
Inuyasha sighed. "This is what I was trying so hard to prevent from happening. I understand Link is dead. Bringing him back to life would be a miracle, and there's always that small chance that he could stay with us in the end. If I can get that to happen, then wouldn't that be enough?" He asked his two friends, who only silently listened to him. "For now, even if there might not be a chance to save him, let them at least enjoy each other's company while they still can. Let them have good memories. Let's not force any pain upon them either."
Despite Miroku's disapproval, Sango only nodded. "You're right Inuyasha. I'm sorry."
Glad someone was listening to him, he placed a hand on her shoulder, realizing Sango was close to tears. "Let's at least try to do something for Kagome and Link. I'm sure we can get the Goddesses to grant our request."
"You're both foolish," Miroku replied disdainfully. Even Sango has sided with the half demon.
Looking away from Sango, Inuyasha glared at the monk. "You need to calm your fucking ass down Miroku. This isn't about you. It's Link's problem, not yours. If he feels the need to tell her sooner, then let him be. Other than that, keep your mouth shut and don't say anything to either of them," He warned.
Unfortunately Miroku was against Inuyasha's ideas. "I can't promise you anything."
