Season 3 Episode 11

Flashback to the White Room...

In a research room, "This is amazing, Mr Ayanokouji-sensei! Kiyotaka is definitely a genius!"

"A born genius is meaningless. Remember, no matter how bad your DNA is, this place will nurture you into an excellent being!"

"S-Sir..."

"Just because he's my son, doesn't mean you can treat him specially. Even if it leads him to his demise, I could care less." The father then checked on his son via the monitor and it shows a young Ayanokouji playing chess. Looking back at his assistant, "Is that clear?"

"Y-Yes sir! Wakata!"

"Very good. Now return to your post and proceed on with the data and results." He ordered and he complied.

At the same time, 2 more people are observing the chess game. "Isn't this a rare sight Arisu? I don't think I'd see you interested."

"An experiment artificially designed to create a genius. There is no way I would not be interested." A young Sakayanagi told her father who also looks sort of young like around his 30s.

"You never change." He replied and she noticed him. "That one..."

"Oh he's the teacher's son. If I'm not mistaken, his name is...Ayanokouji...Kiyotaka..." He told her and that name will be part of her remembrance all the way...

Present Day...

Time to kick off with the Event Selection Exam as the Commanders, Ayanokouji and Sakayanagi went inside the exam room where there are 2 computers utilized for them to command the event selections. Facilitating them are Chie-sensei and Sakagami-sensei.

"Now we will begin this year's special final exam!" Sakagami-sensei announced and he sure is serious now instead of scheming. "Each class, please choose 5 out of the 10 available events and press the confirm button."

The computer screen first reveals the images of their 24 classmates followed by the 10 events that the classes planned out.

"I was looking forward to the day I would be able to compete with you." Sakayanagi spoke to Ayanokouji. "It is a destiny. As fate would have it."

"Yes...fate and destiny...just like when I first met her..." Ayanokouji thought to himself remembering on day one how he first met Honami and fate started connecting them. As the months passed by, fate connected them completely and destiny has made it's move for them. Okay, back to the exam as Ayanokouji selected Basketball, Typing Skills Competition, Archery, Tennis and Table Tennis as the 5 actual events.

For Sakayanagi, she chose Chess, Flash Mental Arithmetic, English Test, Math Test and Modern Literature Test.

"About destiny, that's quite an abstracting thing for you to say for our case." He told her.

"I am a maiden after all."

"I thought some of your followers call you princess?"

While they're talking to each other, "Even though Ayanokouji worked so hard to get his class into Class C, he has to face Sakayanagi. What a pity for him and I feel sorry for him." Chie-sensei spoke up.

"Please abstain your personal feelings for this." Sakagami-sensei reminded her as he sat down beside her. There is a monitor right in front of them also to oversee the selected events.

"Pardon me." She replied as he fixed his glasses a bit. "Well then, let's decide the event for the first round!"

A lottery appeared and it began randomizing the choices as back to the commanders, "Normally I would take it as gently as possible, but...better give it all you've got with everything you have." Sakayanagi requested.

And back to the lottery, it selected basketball!

Event 1: Basketball

At the basketball court, Kitou, Masumi and Machida are playing for their class and they're wearing green basketball jerseys over their tracksuits while Kayano, Hondou and Ike are playing for their class and they're wearing red basketball jerseys over their tracksuits. The reason for the jerseys is team colours.

"His strategy is to preserve the ace, Sudou-kun, correct?" Sakayanagi guessed to herself while Ayanokouji just relaxed and looked at the screen. "The rule for this event is that only one member can be replaced at any given time." She read that rule on the screen. "However..."

At the court, the game begins as both sides played their hardest. In one scene, Machida blocked Ike while he's dribbling. In another scene, Kamuro tried to stop Kayano from scoring but she's unable to and in another scene, Machida attempted a distance shot which succeeded and the score between Class A and C is 6-8.

In the homeroom of Class C, all watched the gameplay. "You can still fight even without Sudou-kun, no?" Haruka asked herself regarding Ayanokouji.

"Strange. His movements are too unresponsive." Horikita spoke to herself and she's referring to Kitou.

Back in the room, Ayanokouji believed it time. "Let's use the Commander's rule. Player Change. Substitute Hondou Ryotarou for Sudou Ken."

"As expected. This is an easy strategy to read. I really hit the nail on the head." Sakayanagi thought to herself as in the court, "I'll take it from here Hondou. You played decently."

"Sure thing Sudou. Win this for our class!"

The player change is done as Sudou stepped into the court and the game resumes with the basketball now in Kitou's hand as he walked and dribbled to Sudou. As he got ready to block him, Kitous suddenly dashed past him leaving him startled. "What's the matter? You can't keep up with an 'amateur' like me?"

"Dammit! Turns out you played basketball before, didn't you?" Sudou deduced while running to catch up to him. "I wonder why you don't plan on joining the club?" That's when Machida blocked him and Kitou easily tossed the ball through the hoop. Ike and Kayano gasped at his moves as, "You took it lightly until now, huh?" Sudou called out.

"No. And about that question relating to club, maybe the members there are too weak. Just like you." Kitou answered him with a crafty smirk.

"Shut it you rascal! You look like a drunken person in appearance if you ask me!" Sudou replied rudely as the game goes on. Now, the score is 12-9.

"If you can shake Sudou-kun mentally, he will collapse and rage out just like that." Sakayanagi spoke to herself regarding Kitou. "No matter how good your technique is, if your mind is frail-"

"Frail? That's how he usually plays." Ayanokouji corrected her as back at the court, "Hey Sudou, when you're out, the tables turn." Kitou taunted him.

"Say what?! Don't underestimate me!" Sudou now got serious and dribbled towards him.

"Ha! You singled-celled organism." Kitou got ready when Sudou stopped to dribble a bit as Machida ran to steal the ball with his classmate when, "Kanji! Now!" Sudou threw the ball to him shocking the 2 boys as Ike caught the ball and threw it Kayano who caught it, jumped up and score!

In class, all cheered for their classmate's moves and even Horikita smiled at their teamwork. Because of that, Class C won with a score of 16 points while Class A scored 14.

"Heck yeah! We won!" Sudou shouted in victory as Class A was too stunned at the moves. Ike ran and gave him a hi-5 while Kayano embraced him as he smiled at this.

As for Kitou, he's frustrated at the loss. "I will not forget this. This will be the first and the last time I lose to you...Sudou Ken..."

Even so, "Naruhoto. He really has improved. Consider it impressive." Sakayanagi can give him that as in the homeroom, Class C cheered while Horikita analyzed the conclusion. "And so...he quickly drew Sudou-kun as his ace card."

Back at the room, the lottery is used again and, "Next event, Typing Skills Competition." Sakagami-sensei announced.

"Another elective event from Class C? It seems like the luck of the draw also lies here." said Sakayanagi as they began the student selection.

"Sotomura. Time to show everyone why you're the professor in our class." Ayanokouji thought as he selected him.

Event 2: Typing Skills Competition

"Ora! Ora! Ora! All my years and experience in the computer club in junior high have not gone to waste! Oh yeah!" Sotomura thought to himself with an exciting grin as his eyes are glued to the computer screen and his fingers are working like clockwork typing the right letters for some random encryption or code.

His opponent, Kenta Yoshida struggled to match his typing speed up to his but it appears that Sotomura's skill level is much higher than his' and as a result, Class C won it.

In class, "Ha! As expected from our professor!" Sudou cheered.

"For once, he impressed me." Karuizawa exclaimed.

"Me too." said Chiaki.

Event 3: English Test

In a classroom, Shinohara, Kokoro, Karuizawa and Satou are selected to do the test but all 4 girls have some difficulties while their opponents easily did the test with no difficulty and as a result, Class A won it.

Event 4: Mathematics Test

In another classroom, Yukimure, Yousuke, Kikyou and Mii-chan are selected to do the test and they diligently worked throughout the test and likewise, their opponents which also include Miki and Morishige.

Despite the efforts, Class A still beat them by several points in the overall total scores.

Event 5: Archery

At a field, Akito is representing the class as he took aim and fired an arrow. It hit the black zone of the target board which is next to the bullseye zone as he nodded to himself and loaded another arrow. The target board shows that he already fired 3 arrows at the outer white zone outside a black line zone, 1 arrow in the black line zone, 2 arrows at the inner white zone beside the black line zone and 2 arrows hitting the bullseyes zone.

"Wow...he's so cool..." Haruka thought with dreamy eyes.

"Not bad I must say." Sakayanagi told Ayanokouji and in this event, Class C won it.

In the homeroom, everyone cheered for the win as Haruka smiled at this and her heart skipped a beat over Akito. "As of now, we won 3 events while Class A won 2. We definitely will win the events that we submitted!" Yousuke announced to the whole class.

"That means..." Haruka began.

"If we get the next lottery..." Satou spoke next..

"Then our chance of winning the event exam will be higher!" Sakura concluded.

And back to the exam room, the lottery is being used and the next event is Flash Mental Arithmetic and in the homeroom, all of Class C was disappointed.

"Now please choose the students for this entry." Sakagami-sensei ordered.

"I cannot afford to let this one slip." Sakayanagi spoke to herself as she decided on the selections. "Our entries for this one will be Tamiya Emi-san and Katsuragi Kouhei-kun." She then smiled about it. "Yes...this is where you'll be tested Katsuragi-kun. Prove to me that I can trust you..."

"Ours will be Matsushita Chiaki and Ijuin Wataru." Ayanokouji decided as he selected the students.

"The rule for this event is that the class with the highest score wins. Not the overall score." Sakayanagi stated.

In Class C, Chiaki and Ijuin went to leave for this when, "Oi Ijuin-boy!"

"What is it Kouenji?" He asked.

"Remember what I've taught you."

"Gotcha."

All looked at Kouenji with perplexity as, "What did Ayanokouji do...with him?" Horikita thought to himself.

Event 6: Flash Mental Arithmetic

In a classroom where there are 2 large screens, Chiaki and Ijuin met up with Katsuragi and Emi. "I believe we met before..." Katsuragi thought when he saw Ijuin and likewise, he had the same thought.

They sat down in their seats as back at the exam room, "There are 10 questions in total. The further you progress, the more difficult and rewarding it gets." Sakagami-sensei explained. "Dewa Hajime!"

In the classroom, the screens begin the countdown and then, it begins with a 3-digit number and a second later, the numbered changed to another and it goes with Class C finding it really challenging.

As it progresses on with more speed in the flashing numbers, the 4 students diligently did what they can do to get the numbers right.

"Matsushita-san seems to be able to cope with this event..." Sakura stated.

"Look at Ijuin! He's catching on well!" Sudou pointed out.

"Ha! Ha! Ha! I'll tell you something. Ayanokouji-boy asked me to train him on this one." Kouenji revealed to everyone.

"Really?" Yousuke asked.

"Of course Hirata-boy! In exchange, I can sit this exam out and relax." He revealed some more.

"Souka... well at least he did contribute even if he's not participating. I can rest easy on him." Horikita thought.

Back at the exam room, "Down to the 10th question. Answering time is over!" Sakagami-sensei announced.

"Hold on. Isn't that last question too difficult?" Chie-sensei asked.

"No issue about it." He replied as he stood up. "As per Commander's Rule, the Commander can only provide the answer to the last question."

"I will answer question 10. What about you?"

"Same here."

Both commanders have the same thought as they select question 10 and began writing the answer.

In the homeroom, "The last question seems way too difficult!" Okitani exclaimed.

"Ha! Ha! Ha! This is quite an interesting game!" Kouenji stated and revealed this. "The answer to the last question is 7619."

"Ha! How did you know?" Miyamoto asked and the result is out. Katsuragi won it as Sakayanagi smiled at this. "Katsuragi-kun did have experience in this in junior high. Now I can see that you've passed the test. Well done."

The results reveal that Katsuragi answered 8 out of 10 questions correctly, Ijuin answered 7 out of 10, Chiaki answered 6 out of 10 and Tamiya answered 5 out of 10.

And back in the exam room, "We are tied now with 3 wins and 3 losses in the events." Sakayanagi stated.

"I caught up with you. Why do you look so depressed?" Ayanokouji asked.

"One more event...and the fun time is over." She answered as she sat back and sighed about it. Ayanokouji just looked back at the screen as she looked at him with a smirk.

"I will now announce the 7th and final event." Sakagami-sensei announced and the lottery chose it. Chess.

"Ah! I cannot believe this event was chosen last!" Sakayanagi exclaimed in excitement. "The rule allows the Commander to issue instructions for a long period of time. In other words, our abilities will decide the outcome."

"And I'm good at chess." Ayanokouji thought to himself.

"And this is truly a coincidence." Sakayanagi thought to herself as she recalled a piece of memory about her father talking about Ayanokouji being born and raised in the White Room without any understanding on human warmth and other things. No matter, she wanted to give it her all as she and Ayanokouji selected their participants.

Event 7: Chess

In a private room in the school library, Horikita and Hashimoto are the ones playing the board as they waited to get started.

Ayanokouji and Sakayanagi clicked on the chess event and a game simulation flashed in before them.

"Let the final event begin!" Sakagami-sensei announced as in the private room, Hashimoto pressed the timer with Horikita making the first move. She then pressed the timer and he made his move.

Ayanokouji and Sakayanagi observed their game as back in the room, "It's only been a few months since I learned chess. So go easy on me okay?" Hashimoto spoke to Horikita.

"Sorry to disappoint you, but I only learned it in a week." She replied back to him as they continued the game. A few minutes later, "A twisted way to compete, won't you say?" Hashimoto asked.

"it is per Sakayanagi's instruction?" Horikita asked as she made her move.

"You too. Is he someone with excellent skills?" He asked as he made his move.

"Who knows." She replied and made her move.

"Oh well...can I ask you something about Ayanokouji?" He asked as Horikita made her move and he's next. As he finished his move, "I've been thinking since the Deserted Island Exam that Ayanokouji was the one that betrayed us?"

"And why do you think of that?" She asked as she finished her move.

"Just a hunch. Tell me your answer."

"I don't have to answer anything and I don't even know what you're talking about." She replied as he finished his move and she's next again.

"Oh really? But you do look upset." He replied.

"I expected you would shake me up. However, you can't shake my stronghold!" She then placed the White Queen beside and behind 2 of the White Pawns and ended her turn surprising Hashimoto. "I can't afford the time to talk but apparently you can." She added with a bold smile.

"Oh this is getting more interesting." Hashimoto replied feeling the excitement.

Back there, Sakayanagi decided to make a move and gave an instruction that Hashimoto took notice of. "I'd still like to do this but I'm grateful for the help." He then made his move and ended his turn.

The game goes on and Horikita could see that Hashimoto is gaining the advantage. "I can't believe there's this much difference in ability..."

At the same time, "Are you not interested in joining in Ayanokouji-kun? If you hold back, victory will be mine." Sakayanagi told him as he looked at the screen. Horikita is now feeling helpless so, "Is it time for the tide?" He then made his move as, "Now this is finally our match." She exclaimed in satisfaction and the real game begins!

For some time, the commanders give instructions and the players follow them as in the private room, "Oi Oi are you 2 doing it a little too fast? The pacing sure is speeding up." Hashimoto brought up to himself while ending his turn and he's referring to the commanders as they kept making the moves for their players.

"This makes our battle look pathetic." Horikita described as she finished her turn.

"Definitely." He agreed with her as the game progresses on as it cuts back to the exam room. "What do you think Ayanokouji-kun? Does my move reach into your heart?"

"Yeah. It hurts so much that I might be pushed down with just one mistake."

"Don't worry. I know you won't make one little mistake." She replied to him.

"Then I'd be happy if you just surrender."

"That I can't do. If there is a mistake, then I will break into your mind with my ability." They continued the game as Hashimoto made a move to trap Horikita. Ayanokouji looked at the simulation and worked on a move that surprised Horikita and Sakayanagi as she remembered another piece of memory where her father spoke to her about the White Room. At a young age, she vowed to tear it down as back to the present, Sakayanagi decided to end the game as she gave an instruction and Hashimoto made another move trapping Horikita.

Realizing this, Ayanokouji studied the simulation for a few seconds and planned another and Horikita followed it.

"Most impressive Ayanokouji-kun. That move just now...it was impossible for a normal person to pull that off. But I have a reason to win too." Sakayanagi exclaimed with her own point of view.

Genius is a birth factor. The existence of such a facility is meaningless. As someone who inherits a truly excellent DNA, I will prove it to you. That is the salvation that I must do. Also, there is something that I have to tell you...

"Checkmate!"

And it looks like Ayanokouji has seen it coming and as a result, he decided to accept it and with that, Class A won and Horikita felt defeated.

"Oi Horikita. That was a good match." Hashimoto stood up and gave her his hand. She felt uneasy at first but calmed herself down and shook his hand. With that, the exam is over.

Aftermath...

"It could have gone either way until the end but the match with you wasn't too bad." Sakayanagi spoke to Ayanokouji and they're outside the exam. "However..."

"What?"

"That last move...did you really think of everything before executing it?" She asked

"What else is there?" He asked when all of a sudden, "You sure are wicked." They looked to see Tsukihiro approaching them. "It'd be nice if you could just tell her honestly for you should have been the one to win the match."

Sakayanagi was surprised by this as Tsukihiro unveiled his scheme. "At that time he executed that move, it was beyond what he thought was the best move."

"Masaka! Did you forcefully intervene in our exam by tampering with his instruction and twisting the output during Horikita-san's turn?" She then looked at Ayanokouji. "Why didn't you press a charge against it?"

"The moment we began issuing instructions, the entire match was intervened." He answered and she was more shocked than just now.

"Exactly. I went the extra mile to also forcefully intervene on your instructions to ensure your win." Tsukihiro revealed some more. "Do you think he can do something that would make him reveal his circumstances? This is your fault that you gave him the Protection Point and thus, my intervention on your instructions to ensure your win so that the protection point will be easily wasted. Still, no matter how miserable it is, a win is a win so celebrate it while you can."

"You are very good at provoking others I see, you'll will pay dearly for this." A furious Sakayanagi declared before him.

"You children often say very interesting thins don't you?" Tsukihiro asked. "You're more than welcome to try."

They said nothing as Tsukihiro left with his head up high for he has succeeded it removing the barrier around Ayanokouji. "Soon. Very soon...Atsuomi's goal will be achieved..."

Around evening...

In the library, Ayanokouji and Sakayanagi are seen having a game of chess. Interestingly, Horikita, Hashimoto and Katsuragi are with them observing their chess moves.

"Very interesting..." Katsuragi observed.

"Why not you and I have a match?" Hashimoto asked him.

"I'll pass. For I'll lose to you in 5 moves." He replied as he laughed elbowing him lightly.

"So he does have experience in the game and likewise, Sakayanagi..." Horikita thought with observation and now, their game is concluded. "As expected from you Ayanokouji-kun. It's my loss." Sakayanagi told him.

"You're very honest aren't you?" He asked.

"A defeat after restarting from the same step as then. I am happy with this result." She replied as the other 3 are a bit surprised by her words. "Hey I just thought of something. How about the 5 of us have dinner together?" Hashimoto suggested.

"A splendid idea." Sakayanagi replied.

"Agreed. I could use something warm." said Katsuragi.

"My thoughts exactly. Let's grab some ramen." Hashimoto suggested.

"Sure thing." Horikita agreed as they grabbed their bags. "Minna. Please go on ahead. We'll catch up with you all for I need to speak to Ayanokouji-kun about something."

"No problem princess. We'll save you the seats." Hashimoto assured to her.

"And don't be late." Horikita added as they left the library. Now that it's just the 2 of them, "In this special exam, you could have been focused on one-on-one events and compete with me directly. Yet why didn't you do that?" Ayanokouji spoke first.

"I do not want your ability to be known to those around you." Sakayanagi replied.

"So you're being considerate." He replied.

"I am glad I have fought and now I have found my answer." She then stood up. "You are definitely a genius." She acknowledged him as they grabbed their bags and left but right after Sakayanagi kept her chess game.

Outside, they walked together to Keyaki Mall to meet up with the others for dinner.

"You saw me in the White Room before did you?" Ayanokouji asked.

"Since then, I have come to enjoy playing chess." Sakayanagi replied. "I trust that one day I will play against you. I am so captivated that I want to know more about you and even chased after you. Although we never met, I feel like we are childhood friends."

Ayanokouji said nothing as she spoke on. "Please allow me to apologize for one thing."

"Apologize?"

"I told you why I avoid one-on-one events, but that was a lie." She admitted as they paused their walk. "The truth is, I wanted to be with you. Even for just a second. As a friend." She then offered her hand to him. "Together in one place where we can feel the warmth of each other. That was an important thing."

He looked at her hand for a few seconds and then, he grasped onto her hand as she used her other hand to grasp his hand fully. "The warmth of a human skin is not a bad thing. Please remember that well for this is my message to you despite my lateness."

Ayanokouji can see that. "Thank you."

"You're welcome. If Ichinose-san can help you feel the human warmth. So shall I." She replied as she let go.

"Well, one thing's for sure, I'm not worried about what this villain did." Ayanokouji spoke up surprising her. "You see, I owe it to your father for granting me my request." He then took out his phone and showed something to Sakayanagi. "Masaka...you have around 65 million points!? How did he..."

"We met before and before you met me." He began. "Apparently, my father was there also and they exchanged words and after that, he left. It was there that I knew something will happen regarding myself and thus, I made this request."

"You requested 100 million private points so that you can save your own skin should one day, you're on the expulsion board." Sakayanagi realized. "I also wonder, what did you do with the 35 million points?"

"I gave 15 million to Honami after Class D gave her 5 million which sums up the amount to negate an expulsion in her class. For the 20 million, I used Karuizawa to negate Class D's expulsion for I expected that a certain student who was forced to betray her class in the past will be marked for expulsion and at that time, she used to have conflict with Karuizawa but now, they've improved their friendship."

"Now I understand why Ryuuen-kun is still here..." Sakayanagi then smiled at this. "And it turns out, you were one step ahead of those that want you out of this school this whole time. And to think my father would grant you this request. It's so astonishing if you ask me..."

"Tsukihiro can scheme all he wants but he'll never figure out this." Ayanokouji stated as he kept his phone.

"Now if nothing else, let's meet the others for dinner. We can't keep them waiting."

"Agreed. For I'm starving now."

So here it is! Yes, this is how Ayanokouji made those moves to help Honami and get Karuizawa to save someone from expulsion in Class D. If you guys recall in my Season 2 episode 10 where he met his father and Chairman Sakayanagi, he talked about a request that he will ask for once and that is it.

With that, he's prepared for anything the White Room will throw at him and so far, only Sakayanagi knew of this.

I've worked on some new changes, additional scenes and dialogues throughout the special exam so far. Even after the exam, the library scene has 3 more people joining the fun followed by new dialogues between Ayanokouji and Sakayanagi towards the end of this episode.
