This chapter was supposed to come out on Friday but I got sucked down the Palworld rabbit hole...
Should I give Cutiefly a gun? Maybe...
Anyways, Please enjoy!
Hala sighed as Mr. Fischer finally- finally decided he was done talking. He was a good man, owned his own business, treated his Pokegirls well, and was generally a good citizen but lords of the islands he could talk! A large hand landed on his shoulder and Hala turned his attention to his oldest and strongest companion.
"Hari." She rumbled. The imposing Pokegirl stood at 6'2 and was a solid, sturdy wall of muscle. Her face was stocky yet marred by countless scars and a milky white eye, the result of taking an opponent lightly. Her long beautiful dark blue hair had long since grayed to a shining silver and was pulled tightly into a ponytail that cascaded down her strong back. Her cream colored skin of her G cupped chest was spotted with the many battle scars of her proud life, a stark contrast to her proud, unscarred back. A ring of yellow fur grew from her hips that covered her dark blue legs that did well to preserve her modesty naturally. Hala smiled and covered her too large hand with his own, the roughness comforting him more than any softness could. She was a proud and storied warrior, one he was proud to call his hoa uhane.
"Apologies, Hariyama. I shouldn't have let it go so long." Hala apologized. The stoic Pokegirl nodded before casting her eye to the rest of the people gathered. Hala joined her in observing the community meeting that had been set up. It was a common thing on the island, perhaps not as common as traditions called for but alas the world had moved on from those days. People from all over the island had come together in the community center gymnasium. Several tables had been commandeered for the dishes that had been brought.
Hala could pick out a few notable figures in the crowd from his spot near the main stage. His former student seemed to be mingling with a large group of people. From the way Kukui was waving his hands he must be on a tangent involving a move. Nurse Joy seemed to have dragged a blushing Officer Jenny towards the punch bowl, intent on making the good cop socialize. Hala smiled, Jenny is a good girl but she could stand to be more sociable outside of her patrols. Give her hell, Joy.
The laughter of children brought Hala to the wider crowd. A group of children were playing tag under the watch eyes of many of the community's Pokegirls, the most boisterous being a pair of blue headed twins. The terrors weaved in and out of adult legs causing much good humored chaos in their wake. Before anyone could complain, a woman who was a spitting image of the girls scooped them in each arm without missing a beat in her own conversation. Her husband and Abe laughed with the skilled matriarch. Good to see the Fisk family, but I wonder where their oldest is. On that thought, where is Abe youngest as well? If I recall they're attached at the hip at these things?
A surprised cry followed by hearty laughs drew Hala's gaze. At one of the tables were fellows of his generation. Anela and Principal Oak were courteously laughing at the expense of Mr. Beeker, the man's Machoke all but doubled over in laughter herself. A sharp dressed man with a monocle and mustache had laid down a flush, handily beating Beeker's measly pair. Hala would feel sorry for the hardware owner but he was still upset from the last poker night.
As the clock ticked down and some of the last people and Pokegirls trickled in a flash and boom drew Hala's attention to the open exits. The scent of rain filled the space quickly as the sky fell and a downpour sprang to life. He grimaced as he realized he would most certainly be walking home in the mud tonight. Damn, of all the days to wear my flip flops.
"Hari." His Pokegirl rumbled and gave his back a slight rub. Hala checked his watch to confirm that it was time to start.
"Thanks, old girl." He smiled and took the stage. The sound of his feet stomping on the stage softened the low din of the crowd. Once he was assured that all eyes were on him, he dropped his stoic facade. He had a reputation to maintain but this wasn't a grand tradition he had to officiate. This was time to be among peers and fellow Melemeleans.
"It is good to see you all once again. It has been too long since our last gathering. I know there have been some issues bothering you and this will be a time to address those grievances. But before that I have a list given to me by the council to announce." His booming voice echoed across the room as he led the meeting. Hala pulled the list and his glasses and started to drone on about the upcoming projects from the council.
Abe sighed as he leaned over to Jack and his wife. "Ugh, I know it's probably good stuff to know but I can't help but space out when Hala gets to this stuff."
"Ha! I know what you mean. The man can capture a crowd any other way but not even he can spice up a list of road repairs." Jack whispered back as his wife giggled as his twin daughters played with their mother. "Say, forgot to ask but where's the little clover? She feeling under the weather today?"
Abe shook his head, his eyes filled with worry as they drifted to the open doors. The rain was coming down in solid sheets now and would no doubt be soaking anything or anyone unlucky enough to be caught outside right now. "No, she told me she was taking a day trip with her friends. I assume it's her usual group. Maybe even roped that pink haired girl and new kid on board too." He spared a final glance at the torrent. "Sure hope they got back before this storm hit. Forecast didn't even say anything about it."
"Huh didn't know they were taking a trip. Is that where Lana went?" Jack asked.
Lawai giggled slightly. "Oops! Sorry, I think I forgot to tell you." She gave a sly look to her husband. "To be fair, I was preoccupied after you got back yesterday." Jack blushed with a slight chuckle.
"-and that should be all. Now that the boring stuff is out of the way I suppose it's time to get to the meat of the meeting. And I don't mean that beautiful ham from Abe." Hala joked and drew a couple laughs from the crowd. A few seconds passed before Hala clapped his hands. "Well then, I guess that concludes the official business! Please feel free to stay and enjoy the wonderful food brought!"
The soft din returned as many people stood to make their own plates. Hala joined the line, mingling with his Islanders. He couldn't help but overhear a few conversations as he waited. Or maybe I'm just nosey.
"Oh, I hope that Michael boy is alright in this rain." Anela said, looking towards the rain-filled doorway.
"Ah you worry too much Anela. He seems like a smart boy. Hardy too." Beeker assured her.
"Maybe, but he just seemed to be getting better. I swear I've never seen a boy as dirty as when I first met him. You'd think he'd been living in the jungle!"
"Ha! You never know, he just might be! Bought some of my best camping gear."
Hala smiled. He had met the respectful young man that had caught his former student's eye.
"I don't know why she's not picking up. She should have gotten back by now surely." Mrs. Masaki sighed in frustration as she redialed her phone.
"Honey, don't worry so much! She's with her new friends. I'm sure they had too much fun today and she's just tired. We'll probably get home and find her asleep, maybe even with that Michael boy." Mr. Masaki laughed. To which his wife just glared at him.
"You just want more pictures for your scrapbooks." "Guilty."
Hala frowned as he heard that. He had been a Kahuna of Melemele for a long time. In all that time he had learned to trust his instincts and the sinking feeling in his stomach unsettled him.
"Maybe they were invited to Michael's for once. I've seen him at our home more than my own husband." Lawai giggled.
"Hey, that's not fair." Jack pouted before he frowned. "But that's not a bad idea. Hey Abe, your daughter's pretty close right ,would you have his parents number?"
Abe scratched his head. "Uhh no I don't. All I know is they moved to Akala, or was it Ula' Ula? Now that I think about it Mallow gets kinda cagey when I ask about his family."
"So does Lana." Lawai frowned.
"Hari." Hariyama rumbled and the hairs on Hala's neck stood up. He had long since deciphered the different grunts of his partner. She was warning him, herself having been put on edge by a powerful presence. Hala slowly scanned and found something he revered and dreaded in the same breath.
She hovered just inside the light spilling from the gymnasium doors. Her ebony skin all but consuming the light. The white markings around her face and torso that their ancestors would one day copy for their own war paint barely made a difference. They drew attention to her slender toned waist and bouncing C cup breasts, accentuating her curves. However the same couldn't be said for her arms. Instead of hands her wrists ended in large keratin shields, covered in bright beautiful yellow and orange feathers. Her plump lips were drawn neutrally but her eyes always held a simmering, focused wrath. A long orange spiky mohawk trailed from her head down her back.
Hala felt the world fall away as he stared at Tapu Koko. No one seemed to notice the appearance of their island guardian but Hala couldn't blame them. Many would be lucky to catch a glimpse of her. Hala had the privilege of knowing Tapu Koko, having been appointed Kahuna by her decades ago. However he also knew that she would not be revealing herself so frivolously. No, she wasn't here as their enigmatic living god, nor was she there for an intimate encounter with her chosen Kahuna. She was an omen, and not a good one at that.
Shouting drew his attention long enough for Tapu Koko to disappear before he could turn back. Mallow had flung one of the doors open. The young girl was soaking wet, covered in mud and had stripped her shirt off.
"HELP! WE NEED HELP!" The crowd parted quickly as the group pushed their way into the gym. They were quickly met by Nurse Joy and Mrs. Masaki along with the several guardians. Hala pushed his way to the front to see who was hurt. Despite the blood covering them most of the children were unharmed as they were hugged by their parents.
"He-he-h-" Lillie tried to speak through her tears only to be shushed by her butler Hobbes.
Mrs. Masaki and Nurse Joy were already performing first aid as Jenny radioed for an ambulance. Michael was blissfully unconscious as the 2 medical experts worked to stem the blood from the 3 long deep gashes in his chest. The bloodied shirts next to him mean the children had used them to stop as much of his blood as they could.
What happened? Hala thought as the paramedics rushed in to care for the obviously injured and check up on the others.
16 hours earlier…
Cutiefly yawned as she stretched her legs out in front of her. She pushed her back deeper into the side of my neck as she got comfortable. Rapp mimicked her yawn from my right shoulder as she tried in vain to get a few more seconds of sleep.
What makes me the best pillow? I wondered as we waited in front of Mallow's cafe home. The verdant chef was inside finishing the final prep work for our hike's lunch. I had tried to sneak in to help but a ladle to head persuaded me to sit outside and wait for the others. Rapp had shown up not too long after. She had a pair of ripped jeans with black boots that looked comfortable enough for today. She had wrapped a plaid hoodie around her waist with a shirt for a band that she'd no doubt sent me already.
"Where's your swimsuit? Didn't Rotom say there's a lake?" "I did!"
Rapp just raised an eyebrow as she pulled her collar to the side so I could see the top of her suit. Fair enough. She shooed me to the side and tucked her legs under her as she leaned into my shoulder. My role as a pillow had begun.
Surprisingly the next to show up was Sophocles. The smallest and well, roundest of our group came running up the road out of breath. He stopped in front us panting to catch his breath.
"Wow, I didn't expect you to be here so early. Figured you'd be the last." I commented. Sophocles blinked in surprise as he looked around.
"Wha- but Mallow told me 7. Where is everyone?"
"Heh, looks like you got tricked. Actual time is 8 so you're about 30 minutes early."
"What?!" Sophocles shouted indignantly. Rapp scrunched her nose and grunted in annoyance. Sophocles blanched until the irritable punk calmed down.
"Careful, I'm not sure but I think she bites." I said with a smirk. I had to bend away from the sudden pinches on my side, "Owowowowwww, you win!"
She huffed as she leaned further into me. Sophocles, brave or stupid one, decided the danger had passed and sat down on one of the patio tables. He pulled a small figure that looked like him and extended a core from it. Plugging it into a laptop from his bag, its eyes shine a keyboard down for him to start working.
"Hey, that's pretty cool. Where'd you get that?" I asked, already having a good guess.
Predictably he puffed in pride. "My own invention! A portable wireless keyboard on the go! Universal compatibility and a seek, charming design!" I looked at the miniature figure of him. Well, he's got some confidence. Still jokes aside, it was incredible. Sophocles had essentially miniaturized a projector and made the projection interactive. Considering his age it wasn't a stretch to call him a prodigy. He also pulled a couple of diagrams and blueprints up before turning the screen to me. "I've actually begun designing Mk. 2. Check it out!"
Mk. 2 was even more technical but I recognized that it was intended to completely replace the need for a screen. An all in one interactive projection that he could do work on. It seemed he was lacking a power source small enough but powerful enough to run it.
"I've been toying with the idea of having Togedemaru power it but the problem would be how to harness her energy effectively. I mean…while I'm sure she wouldn't mind me plugging a cord into her I'd just rather…not." He said with a slight blush.
"Well I remember Mallow saying you're pretty skilled with Electric types. I'm sure you'll figure something out." I commented. Mallow hadn't actually but I knew that I was technically sitting in front of the Electric Trial Captain so I could stretch it a bit.
He smiled a bit before getting back to work. The sound of tires pulling up signaled Lillie's arrival. Her usual sundress was replaced with a slightly more practical outfit of a T-shirt and jeans. Only slightly as they were both blindingly white. She gave Hobbes a quick hug as he handed her a duffle bag with a pokeball design.
"Jeez, Princess. I hope you didn't pack the kitchen sink too." Rapp teased as Lillie joined us.
"No? I just packed my swimsuit and a couple towels?" Her confused head tilt was just adorable as the joke passed over her head.
"She means you packed a lot." A soft deadpan voice called from behind us. Rapp screamed and jumped up. I might have yelped as I turned with her. Lana's snickering face was behind us. She wore her usual white and blue shirt and pants. Only difference was her flip flops had been replaced with tennis shoes, probably just loose enough she could slip them off at the first sight of the lake.
"You little-" Rapp lunged at Lana who started a game of cat and mouse across the patio.
"Um," Lillie quietly tugged on my sleeve, "I didn't pack too much, right?"
"Nah if it's just towels then you're okay. Mallow's probably gonna have more stuff than you since she's feeding all of us." I reassured her. She smiled and we continued to watch Rapp chase a cackling Lana. Right before she could get the slippery water trainer under her thumb a defiant roar split the air.
Charizard circled us before making a solid landing. Kiawe quickly dismounted and unpacked his bag from her harness. Then surprisingly he unbuckled the harness from the Fire-Flying type and helped her out of the gear. Once she was free from the leather straps she gave us all a wave and a blown kiss before a powerful flap of her wings sent her skyward once more. Damn she's even faster when she doesn't have all that gear.
"Hey guys! I'm not late, right?" Kiawe called as he dragged the harness up to the porch. His normal black and red shorts had been swapped for a pair of orange and white board shorts. Still he was rocking the shirtless scene.
"Nah, Mallow's still prepping. No Charizard today?" I inquired as I opened the door for him. He laughed and shouldered the gear as we entered the cafe. The smell of breakfast and possibly some of the lunch filled the air and we could hear the clatter of Mallow working in the back.
"No, not today. Grandpa has a Grand Trial today and asked for her. He must be confident that this Trainer is good enough if he's using her." He explained. Mallow opened the door to see us all in the dining room.
"Oh good! I was about to ask for help packing stuff. Come help me Michael. Kiawe you know where the storage is, right?" I squeezed past Mallow, who totally didn't purposely push herself against me to mess with me, to get to the kitchen. 8 bento boxes sat neatly arranged on the counter alongside fresh bread, cheese, and fruit. A couple containers of Pokegirl food were filled to bursting and I imagine the berries were there to add some flavor and nutritional value.
"8 boxes? Expecting someone to ask for seconds?" I questioned as I started packing the food into bags. Mallow giggled as she wrapped the bread and cheese.
"No, Rapp didn't tell you? She invited some of her friends. Tupp and Zipp, I think?" I winced at the names of the future and even possibly present Team Skull members. They weren't as annoying as you might expect from seeing the anime but that didn't mean they weren't vulgar and generally dudebros that acted like they were the hottest shit.
"I'm surprised you agreed. I thought you would be against them coming if what they did to Lillie's house was true. Didn't she say they brought down a chandelier?"
"Pfft. Yeah I was at first. But Rapp said they'd be on their best behavior and the first thing they would do is apologize for that." She giggled, finishing up the wrapping. I put the last stuff into a bag and threw it over my own shoulder. Mallow lifted her arm and a bouncing Bounsweet jumped from the counter to run up her arm and sit her plump behind on Mallow's shoulder.
"Shall we?" She asked.
"Ladies first." I said holding the door open for her. She giggled and gave me a pat on the cheek before entering the dining room.
"Yo, yo, yo, yo! What's happenin, people! Ya boi is in the house!" A loud voice called out and we all turned. Tupp strode in with all the confidence of a thug leader. Zipp followed behind him with a neutral expression.
"Hey, what are you guys doing here?" Kiawe said with a bit of shock and heat in his voice.
"What's up? We got invited. Got a problem with that?" Tupp taunted a bit before a sharp cough brought his attention to a glaring Rapp. Damn, raised eyebrow, tapping fingers, add a book and glasses and she'd pull off an impression of my witch librarian from high school.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" She asked, gesturing to Lillie.
"What? What do you-" Tupp started before a quick elbow from Zipp actually shut him up.
"We're very sorry for what we did at your birthday party." "Oh, right….sorry and stuff." Credit where it was due, Zipp actually tried. Tupp, well…3/10.
Lillie, the kind soul that she was, just smiled and accepted their apology. That settled it everyone gathered their bags and followed me out to the stream that I knew would eventually grow to the river that would lead to the lake. Conveniently it would run right through my base camp so I could pick up anything I forgot.
The walk was filled with chatter among everyone. Mallow, Lillie and Kiawe seemed to break into their own little group. I wasn't able to hear what they were saying but judging by the flames, Kiawe was getting fired up. Sophocles was lagging behind and not because of his normal aversion to physical activity but because he was scanning local wildlife. Cutiefly had elected to help him by coaxing some of her Bug Type friends out for him. Totally unrelated was the aerial dances she would get in with the flyers. Rapp had elected to hang with her crew and get into a heated discussion. The amount of hand signs Tupp was throwing you'd think he was casting a spell.
"You seem right at home." Lana commented as she caught up to me. I blinked and gave her a questioning look. "The way you walk. It's like how I swim. You just know every inch around you."
My eyes widened in realization. I was pretty comfortable in the jungle now. I wasn't stumbling about making tons of noise and generally being a fool. Instead my steps were deliberate and energized. I didn't even realize I was actually consciously slowing down so the rest could keep up. Huh, guess I have gotten used to living out here.
"You've been out here since summer started, right? Have you ever camped this long before?" She asked, with a slight head tilt.
"Ah, no actually. Used to hate camping in fact. Guess I just grew to love it when I didn't have a choice."
"What do you mean? You can just go home right?" Lana asked.
I subtly looked around. Everyone else was still busy in their own conversations and Rotom had floated a bit further ahead. Now was a good time to test the waters with the rest of my friends. And who better than the Water trainer right? "Hey Lana," she tilted her head as she gave me her full attention, "what would you do…if you couldn't see your family anymore?" I asked.
Lana stumbled for a second as she paused. "I would be really sad…" she said, the concern palpable in her voice.
"Yeah…" I responded. Before she could dig deeper I recognized the coming waterfall and called out to the rest. "Hey, we're coming up to my camp. If you need to rest this is a good spot. We're not taking long though. I wanna get us there before lunch."
I could feel Lana's eyes on me as I started helping people down the cliffside with my climbing rope. When I finally got down, everyone was already inspecting my camp.
"Hey, you've spruced up the place!" Mallow commented. I smiled as I looked around at what she meant. I had extended the cave entrance with a tarp to prevent any stray rain showers from soaking my sleeping spot. I had cleared a bit of the soft ground nearby with tools gifted to me by the hardware store owner and had planted some berries that were further out than the natural Sitrus surrounding us. A couple of spouts had already grown and soon I would have more berries than I could even share with the local Rattata and Bug Types. A couple of chairs surrounded the folding table I had scavenged and the grill. My scavenged storage had expanded alongside my wardrobe, enough that I was washing laundry in the stream (downriver enough that Magikarp wouldn't spray me and far enough up that it wouldn't harm the Poliwhirl family) and had installed my own clothes line.
"Damn no wonder you're Pokegirls are so good…" Tupp and Zipp said, staring wide eyed at the other side. Rows of dead, frozen grass and tree limbs showed where Vulpix had been perfecting her Aurora Beams and Icy Winds. Next to that was what I liked to lovingly call Po Dojo. Pancham and I had piled sand and river rock to create her own exercise zone. A couple of boulders carried all the way from the rocky cliffs, something I barely allowed after Rotom translated that Pancham would love the workout, were scattered around the sand pit. The largest were left unmolested for now but there were numerous shattered victims of Pancham's training. Cutiefly's own training had been a bit…complicated. The little Bug Type was obviously keeping up with her teammates but she was less focused than them. She much preferred play fighting or even just sparring to anything dedicated. The only training I found that could keep her attention for a long period of time was her own aerial course. A series of vines had been looped throughout the trees. The knot in them meant if Cutiefly grazed the side as she passed, it would pull with her and trap her. While I have had to rescue her several times, she was rapidly improving her flight skills. Although I imagine she just wants me to rescue her so she can give me a "special reward" after.
"My own little slice of paradise." I smiled at everyone. We set out soon after Sophocles finished his bathroom break. The flower field came into view and the girls gasped at the beauty of the familiar sight. Butterfree danced on the wind while Cutieflies and Ledyba collected nectar and pollen.
"Damn, that's a lotta Pokegirls, yo." Tupp whistled at a passing Butterfree. The butterfly giggled before flying out of reach of the now heart eyed boy. We followed the river, briefly pausing to pay a respectful wave to Poliwhirl before exiting the field. The light chatter returned but this time I didn't have Lana to talk too. Instead the blue haired girl seemed to hang around Mallow and Lillie but I could catch her staring out the corner of my eye.
"Man, Mankey, key!" An energetic call caught our attention. I saw a familiar set of Mankey in an adorable position. The monkey girls seemed to be recovering from a training session with a bit of light grooming. The larger one was laying on her smaller partner's chest and enjoying having her short hair picked through and stroked.
"Hey those Mankey look familiar…" Mallow muttered and Lana nodded. The smaller one watched us as we passed a respectful nod sent my way. They must be tired if they aren't gonna pick a fight today. Shame, they're really good training partners.
"The fork!" Rotom called out excitedly. The river fork had indeed arrived. I looked down the left side and could see the beginning of the grassy plain that I had found Vulpix in just a little over a month ago. Crazy how fast time has been going.
"Alright, we're following Rotom now. Please keep your hands inside the train, she might use them to masturbate." I quipped.
"I will not be gentle with them!" She backed me up. A cascade of giggles signaled our start down the right river. The jungle I knew slowly faded and was replaced by an even denser verdant biome. Trees steadily grew as we walked down hill to follow the flow. Deep green vines looped from the canopy and underbrush thickened to a point we were pushed single file against the river bank. The Pokegirl's behavior changed too.
With the exception of particularly territorial species, most PokeGirls are neutral to humans passing through their territory. There might be the occasional display of force to tell the trainer not to come close but it was usually a "don't bother me, I won't bother you" mentality. The hairs standing up on the back told me we were being watched. Not just watched… I thought as I saw obsidian eyes of a Murkrow follow us from on high, a Paras' almost hollow eyes didn't even blink when we crossed in front of her burrow, they're studying us.
Cutiefly flew to land on my shoulder, a vanguard and warning to any would be challengers. Kiawe, Rapp, and Tupp also fingered their pokeballs in preparation. The further we walked, the darker and more hostile the jungle became. Then it suddenly opened to the joy of Cutiefly. Another flower field just as beautiful as the last bordered right up to the lake. Cutiefly jumped from my shoulder and buzzed right to what had really caught her attention, a colony of Cutieflys who welcomed her immediately. The Bug Types immediately started an aerial dance and wrestling match. Comfortable with Cutiefly having her fun I turned to survey the lake. The river continued to this smaller flower field till it spilled into the lake, whose crystal waters reflected the midday sun. The lake was surrounded by cliffs to the right and more jungle, albeit a more welcoming looking jungle.
"I'm surprised we don't see any Ribombee. There's usually one or two in a colony this size." Lillie noted as she watched Cutiefly dip and dive through the air with her twins. There were differences among them, butts and breasts, skinny and more chubby but I could tell which was my girl. She was leaps and bounds faster than the others who seemed eager to try and catch their tamed sister. Atta girl.
"Maybe they're out foraging?" Mallow asked, to which Lillie only shook her head.
"No. In a colony environment, a Ribombee will almost always delegate food gathering to Cutieflys. They focus their energy on protecting the colony or training new Ribombee."
"Why do that? Couldn't they all gather food and train together?" Sophocles asked.
"Ooo! Let me, Master!" Rotom interjected as she pulled up pictures of Cutiefly and Ribombee and flew around to give everyone a look. Damn, that's what Cutiefly is gonna look like?
The example Ribombee had long silky platinum blonde hair with brown tips. Her breasts were only a size larger but her hips and ass had grown more curvaceous and seductive. Her legs and arms were still covered in yellow and black fuzz like a bumblebee but I could see the large amount of pollen covering them.
"Ribombee's average between 30-38 inches, over 3 times the size of the average Cutiefly! They also boast more powerful control over Type energy. Because of this, when in a colony, Ribombee are considered the leaders and protectors! In fact a colony of Cutieflys will never form without a Ribombee to offer protection.'' Rotom explained, "When a Cutiefly in evolves, depending on the size of the colony and their relative power, they will either be trained by the older Ribombee in how to lead in order to help protect and expand the colony or they'll leave to start their own colony!"
"Wow, so the whole colony operates on a Ribombee." Lana said.
"Yep! In fact, Ribombee are so intertwined into colony dynamics that in the event of the death of Ribombee the colony will collapse." Rotom solemnly explained. I saw Kiawe bow his head in a quick prayer.
"That's kinda sad…" Mallow said as she watched the Cutiefly play. "What happens to the Cutiefly?"
"They'll either join a new nearby colony that welcomes their sister or they'll supercharge their evolution and attempt to regain their colony!" Rotom explained. "This happens a lot in colony and herd based groups. It's a rough wild life." She swooned and I caught her out of the sky.
"What about captured Cutiefly? What happens when they evolve while they're under a trainer?" I asked. Rotom's face fell and she attempted to look away. "Rotom? What's wrong?"
"Uhh- well you s-see…"
"Come on, just tell us, spark plug. It can't be that bad." Rapp said as she leaned on me to stare Rotom down.
"U-um well, I might be wrong," Lillie nervously started.
"Bug Types have a habit of wanting to be released to join colonies or partner with a mate. Fairy types have been known to just abandon their Trainers on whims." Kiawe stated bluntly, likely to spare the girls feelings. I stared at him in shock.
"What…what do you mean?" I numbly asked. Rotom seemed to resign herself.
"Bug Types often partner for life once they reach the end stages of their evolutions. They will often ask their Trainers to be released and if the Trainer refuses the PokeGirl will become difficult to manage until they're released…" she explained softly, using one of her "arms" to rub the other.
"And…and Fairy types? I asked weakly. That can't be right. I know we see Pokemon ask to get released but it can't be that common right?
Tupp snorted, "Fairy Types are freaks, yo. They're tricky in battle and in training. Ain't surprised they would just up and leave." Rapp gave him a light glare but nodded.
"Fairy Types were only classified recently. They're still being studied but that's a common trend. Even looking back on Pokemon that got reorganized and it holds up." Rapp said. My head spun as I took in the information. Fairy types just leave? There has to be a reason. What causes them to leave? Bad Trainer? Gardevoir is Fairy right? She can't tell emotions so maybe it has to do with an emotional state?
"There are Trainers who've had the same Fairy Types their whole career." Lillie offered. "I think there's a gym leader in Galar who's had them for 70 years."
Opal! I realized. I forgot about her. She's been a gym leader for like 70 years of course.
"So if there's anyone who knows how a Fairy operates…" I thought. "Rotom remind me to look up anything published by that gym leader." Rotom nodded and I saw her start opening search engines.
Mallow gave me a small hug from behind, "Are you gonna be okay?" She asked.
I watched Cutiefly dive sharply causing two of her pursuers to crash into each other. She was giving her sisters a hell of time in a game of tag. The light framing her cute smiling face as she laughed. I took a deep breath and smiled.
"Yeah I'll be good." I put a hand on hers. "Thanks for asking. I'll cross that bridge when it comes." I can't imagine she'll want to leave but if she does well…who am I to stand her way of her happiness? One more breath and I looked at the group. "Anyone see a place we can set up?"
"That beach looks big enough." Lana said. Everyone agreed and I whistled for Cutiefly to join us. She waved goodbye to her wild sisters and buzzed up to me. I quickly hugged her to my chest. She looked confused for a second before smiling and returning the hug as best her tiny arms could.
The beach was short, barely a football field, but it was more than enough for our group. Lana immediately slipped her shoes and pulled her shirt up. Her blue one piece suit hugged tightly to her petite body as she sprinted down the beach to the water. She tossed her pokeball and Poppilo joined her in the cool wet world she so loved.
Everyone spread out and tossed their own PokeGirls. Sophcoles pulled his mini computer out and started doing…something with the lake water. Lillie, Mallow and Rapp walked to the forest for privacy to change. I narrowed my eyes as I watched Tupp and Zipp watch them leave. "Hey Pancham," I caught the little bear's attention before she could pick a fight with Turtonator.
"Pan?" She tilted her head in acknowledgement.
"Keep an eye on Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum over there. If they try taking a peek at the girls, dunk their heads." I instructed her. Pancham gave a wicked grin and thumbs up before she snuck into the forest. Confident in her abilities, I decided to help Kiawe set up the grill.
"Surprised you carried this thing the whole way." I commented as we pulled the legs out. "Could have told me so we could have taken turns."
He laughed, "No no, it's alright. It was a good workout. I've been carrying stuff like this since I was able to walk and help the farm."
"Still…" I trailed off before I heard shouting.
"PAN!" Pancham's loud war cry carried over the beach as she wielded a screaming Zipp like a bat against a fleeing even more terrified Tupp and Rotom?!
"WAHHH, SAVE ME MASTER!" The group sprinted past us before Pancham swung Zipp and caught them both. She let go of the swing and the two flew out into the lake.
"Hmm, good arc. Nice speed. 8/10." I smirked.
"Why not 10/10?" Kiawe asked with his own smirk.
"Depends on the splash." I said. They landed with a good size splash. However they weren't underwater for long as a Water Gun sent the perverts flying up and back to the beach. Poppilo and Lana laughed from the water as they landed.
"9/10." I amended my score as a livid Rapp arrived flanked by a scowling Mallow and embarrassed Lillie. Rapp was wearing a hot pink bikini top with a black flame pattern rising from the bottom of the cups. Luckily for my heart rate and sanity her bottoms seemed to be more board shorts than thong. Mallow's lime green two piece with red flowers looked exactly like her anime counterparts but just hugged her so well. Lillie wore a white two piece that had a large ruffled top and modest skirt. She held her large white sun hat low to hide her embarrassment. Lord, no I'm in the PokeGirl world now. Arceus, give me strength.
"Give me one reason not to castrate you…" Rapp growled in a low voice. Tupp and Zipp turned green.
"H-hey come on Rapp! It's not like that! You know we wouldn't peek at you! Princess and Green are-" Mallow scowled deeper as Lillie hid behind her. "I-I mean-" Rapp started cracking her knuckles.
"He said they wanted to watch Lillie and Mallow since they were less likely to beat them up! And that you weren't worth the effort to spy on!" Rotom threw the boys under the bus with a giggle that quickly turned to a screech as I snagged her out of the air.
"And why were you with The Dumbass Duo?" I said with a bit of heat.
"Uhhhhh- research?" She nervously said.
I tossed Rotom to Tupp who barely caught the distorted Ghost. They kept pleading for mercy right up until Rapp started chasing them. I was still getting used to the anime tropes but it was kinda funny watching her chase them, sharp teeth and eyes white in rage and all.
A quick tug on my shirt turned me around. Mallow had gone to unpack lunch next to a very nervous but wisely silent Kiawe. Lillie was nervously stuttering, "T-thank you…for having Pancham…"
"Ah, no problem. Sorry those three did that. I can't speak for the boys but I'll keep a tighter leash on Rotom."
"No, it's okay. Just a ghost type prank…" She trailed off, "but if she did…get any pictures…"
"Into the trash with Extreme Speed." I reassured her and got a smile.
"Um, w-would you help me set up an umbrella?" She asked and smiled when I nodded. After we set up her umbrella, I decided to sit with her on her towel and watch Rapp chase the boys. Zubat was already called into the fray by her trainer and with her air rival on the move Cutiefly had joined in. Pancham had roped a very surprised Salandit into an impromptu wrestling match with Turtonator. In an unlikely combo, Vulpix was sitting calmly enjoying the sun next to a splayed Trubbish. I sighed as I took in the day. There were a lot of clouds in the sky but I didn't see any that would make me concerned.
A giggle caught my attention and I looked at Lillie. "Sorry," She smiled, "you just looked so relaxed."
I raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"
"Oh, it's just…you usually look so serious." She said, watching the others. Kiawe and Mallow were working the grill. Well more like Mallow was ordering Kiawe to set the table with Bounsweet while she cooked. Lana and Poppoli had started to race and damn if she wasn't giving the Water type a run for her money. Sophocles seemed busy analyzing the lake's waters while Togedemaru took a sunny nap next to him. Rotom seemed to have given Rapp the slip and was flying around to do her own photography of the landscape. I should really look at her catalog soon. She really enjoys taking pictures. "It's nice to see everyone having fun."
"Yeah I guess it is. But wouldn't you wanna join them?" I asked and she looked away sadly.
"I-I would but…my condition… It makes it hard to have fun, even with my friends. " She said softly. I grimaced as I realized. Foot meet mouth. I guess growing up in a world where you're scared of the main social focus you'd miss out on a lot. "I…I just wish I wasn't such a coward…" She lamented. Oh, can't let that stand. Here's hoping an anime speech works.
"Coward?" I scoffed. "You're probably braver than you give yourself credit for." She looked at me wide eyed.
"But- But I can't touch PokeGirls! I can't even get near them!" She protested. I snorted.
"And has that stopped you from trying?" She blinked and I forged on. "You've tried touching and playing with them in the past, right?" A nod. "And you're probably gonna try again, right?" another nod. "Well there you go!" I said as I stood up to head to the water. "That's what makes you brave."
She gave me a questioning look and I smirked back, "Being brave isn't about not having fears. It's about having those fears and trying again and again until you overcome them." I ruffled her hair through her sunhat. "And I have a feeling you'll overcome."
I decided to leave Lillie alone to digest my Motivational Speech™ and waded into the water. The water was cool and refreshing against my skin as it soaked through my shirt. After I was chest deep I turned to look for Lana and Poppilo. She was just out here wasn't she? I turned and scanned the beach but didn't spot any blue skin or hair. They didn't get out-
I yelped as the back of my shirt was grabbed and I was drug under the surface. I was spun around by a smirking Lana. She gave me one last cheeky grin as she booped my nose and mouthed 'you're it'. Oh it's on- holy shit she's fast!
I was apparently sorely outmatched. I tried, I really tried to keep up with them. I followed Lana deeper into the lake, breaking for air far more often than she had too. "Luckily" for me she didn't go too far whenever I had to breach the surface so I was able to at least pretend to chase her through the water. However, it was like one of her legs slicing with grace through the water was worth 4 of my clumsily strokes. I didn't even try to tag Poppilo. The sea girl's mermaid-like tail was on full display as she literally swam circles around me as I followed her master. Pro: I'm getting a hell of a show between Poppilo's tits and Lana's legs. Con: God, they are quite literally playing with their food right now.
Lana turned briefly to catch my attention as I dove under once again before turning into a forest of aquatic plants. The light filtered through the light greens and yellow of seaweed to form a sunken grove. PokeGirls swam around us with speed that spun my head. I was only able to catch glimpses of mermaid-like tails or flowing hair like silk before they sped off, either to get away from the strange humans or to catch the normal fish that inhabited the waters. Damn I should have brought my fishing pole.
I finally lost her inside the seaweed trap she had led me too. I scanned the area hoping I could spot a flash of blue around me. Then something grabbed my legs and I just locked up. Like a fainting goat, I just stopped moving and slowly sunk next to a struggling Lana. She let go of my legs to slap both hands over her mouth to keep her from letting out her precious oxygen in her overwhelming laughter. I rolled my eyes as she got herself under control. You know, I thought as I observed her, she has really pretty eyes.
I realized she had stopped "laughing" and we had ended up just staring into each other's eyes. A blush ran across our faces and she drifted a little closer. She gave me a smirk as she jumped into my arms. My blush went red hot as I held her close to me. I forgot, she's the bold one…
Whatever moment we were having was brutally stomped. A large shadow moved through the seaweed until it was in front of us. I felt my eyes widened as I saw the flash of white teeth and claws, and yellow, glowing eyes from the shadowed flora.
"BLBLBLBLBLBLBLBL!" We all shouted as we turned to get away from whatever was making the water it's home. Poppilo got between us and the creature and shot a Water Gun at the encroaching mass. The pressurized stream of water energy shot from Poppilo's open mouth and ripped through the seaweed but didn't hit its target. The shadow dropped with frightening quickness to avoid the blast but it gave the Sea Lion PokeGirl enough time to catch up to us. Lana swung onto Poppilo's back to hold on to the speeding PokeGirl's shoulders while Poppilo simply grabbed by my shirt collar. The Sea Lion breached the surface at record speed and we made a beeline for the shore.
"OUT OF THE WATER! GET OUT OF THE WATER!" I shouted to the shore in between the mild waterboarding I was receiving from the emergency ride.
"What?! We just got in foo!" Tupp shouted back, him and Zipp throwing up some hand signs. Thankfully they were close enough to the shore that they were thrown back onto sand when we crashed into them.
"Ugh. Spin cycle sucks." I groaned as we all untangled ourselves.
"What's wrong guys?/Is everyone okay?" Kiawe, Mallow and Lillie joined us all at the waterside.
"What's the big idea? Can't pump the brakes on your flippers?" Tupp angrily accused Lana. Lana's face grew stormy and glared back at the lighter blue head.
"Poppilo is a great swimmer. We just needed a stop and your fat head is just big enough."
"What?!"
"Hold on before you roast him, let's tell the others, Lana." I encouraged her. She stuck her tongue out at Tupp one last time.
"There was something big under the water, near a seaweed forest."
"Big? Like a Gyarados?" Kiawe asked with some concern. If Charizard were here they wouldn't have to worry but a Gyarados is a struggle to contain without a powerhouse like her. Lana shook her head.
"I didn't get a good look but I think it was green and white. Not blue."
"Ha, I bet you got scared by your own PokeGirl. Look," Tupp marched up to the water's edge before turning back to us. "Nothing to worry about!"
The sound of rushing water cut him off.
…
"...it's right behind me. Isn't it?"
Water cascaded off the hulking mass rising up. Kiawe and I rushed to the front of the group with Turtonator and my girls right behind us. Green feathers covered her body from head to clawed toe and dripped more of its accumulated lake water. Her arms were the exception as large white feathers flared from her elbows down her wrists giving her wyvern-like wings that ended in clawed hands. A long serpent-like tail also covered in green feathers and ending in large white tips rose up showing off more of her rising mass. She just kept rising until she was easily standing at 10 ft tall and easily outweighing all but Turtonator. Long white hair flowed down to cover most of her curvy voluptuous body, through which we could see a single red eye with yellow eyebrows glaring out at us.
We all tensed as the mysterious creature took a deep breath…and then she crossed her eyes and threw her winged arms out. Her tongue lolled out of her mouth as far as one of our arms and her feathers and hair stood up as she let out a ridiculous call that sounded more like a clown car deflating than a vicious predator.
"DRANNNNNNNNNMAAAAAAAAAA." She bellowed out as water flung everywhere.
Everyone held their breaths for a moment before…
"Pfft." I couldn't hold my laughter in. I don't know if it was the adrenaline crashing, the absurdity of the situation, or her silly roar but it broke a little cord in me. My break caused a cascade of laughter among us as Dranpa-no Dranma continued making silly sounds and faces.
Once I got a hold of my laughter, I was able to take a better look at the Placid PokeGirl. She was indeed over 10 ft tall standing heads and shoulders above us. Her feathers and hair had quickly dried and left her standing more akin to a cloud than a drowned lady. Her breasts were a bountiful if slightly sagging DD cup with white nipples and her ass and thighs were jiggling with each of her silly movements. A long thick tail sat right about her butt cheeks teeming with muscles. It really struck me how wyvern-like she was. Her wings almost seemed like they stuck out from her wrists rather than folding into more robust feathers like most of the harpy-like bird PokeGirls I had seen. It offered her the full use of a hand and probably still allowed flight or at least gliding. I guess she is a Dragon type after all.
"Grandma Forest!" Lana and Mallow shouted in tandem as they hugged the wild PokeGirl. A look of confusion (with a hint of annoyance?) flashed in Dranma's eyes before it was quickly overtaken by recognition and happiness. She pulled the two into a tight hug squishing the girls into her breasts.
"Dranma!"
"God I would kill to be them…" I heard Zipp whisper to Tupp and Rapp and I saw the other 2 nodded their heads.
"Uhh, Master?" Rotom caught my attention. "She might recognize them but I wouldn't suggest any more random hugs…Dragons are kinda…temperamental with unknown physical contact."
"You're not scared of a little skinship, are ya, sparkplug?" Rapp teased.
Rotom smirked before getting close to whisper in Rapp's ear. "Give me a little and I'll show you how much I love…skinship." She punctuated the teased with a long, slightly tingling lick up Rapp's ear that caused the punk to shudder. Before I could tell her to knock it off Mallow and Lana turned to us.
"Guys, this is Grandma Forest. She's the one we were telling you about." Mallow explained.
"When we were little, we got lost in the forest. We almost fell off a cliff but Dranma saved us." Dranma blushed and rubbed their heads while waving off any praise.
"She says, "It's no big deal. I couldn't let such good children get hurt, now could I?" Rotom translated for us. "She also asked your names!"
"Good girl." I praised the Plasma PokeGirl who smiled and blushed.
"I'm Kiawe of Akala Island. It's an honor to meet you." Kiawe said with a formal bow. Dranma pinched his cheek a little before giving a good look at Turtonator. The (junior?) PokeGirl straightened up slightly under the stare of the older Dragon before a smile broke out from the Normal one.
"Huh?" Tupp grunted as Rapp and Zipp pushed him up. "Oh yeah! Yo, check it Dranma. We the hottest young crew you've ever seen! I'm Tupp rocking the mic, with Rapp and Zipp breaking the beat!"
…
A beat pass as Dranma started at the young wannabes. I swear I saw sweat drops form around people's heads. Dranma just pursed her lips before giving them all a pat on the head and moving on. The crew sank to their hands and knees behind them as a depressed aura surrounded them.
"Hehehe! Talk about rap and burn." Sophocles laughed as he stood up to Dranma. "Good to meet you I'm-" Sophocles was cut off as Dranma was gently poking his stomach with a talon.
"Dran-Dranmaaa" She crowed.
"She says 'Well at least one of you is getting enough to eat.'" Rotom burst out laughing. Sophocles was down next to the crew shortly after.
"U-Um!" Lillie nervously stood in front of the PokeGirl. "M-miss Forest. I have a lot to thank you for. When I joined public school…I was terrified that I wasn't going to make friends… I was afraid they would be mean or different because of Mother…" Lillie took a deep breath. Dranma stared respectfully, giving her full attention to the girl in front of her.
"But there were two girls who didn't care who Mother was." She looked up firmly at the Dragon. "They brought many days of friendship and you're the one who saved them so one day I could have more friends than I ever thought possible." Lillie bowed. "So thank you!"
I smirked. Brave indeed…
Lillie left herself bowed for a second as the emotional high of thanking someone who had saved her friends' lives wore off. However she wasn't expecting the white wings that enveloped her in a soft and comforting hug.
"Dranma, Dranma, ma."
"That was, 'Yada yada yada, happy to help a cutie like them and you.' Also Granny you should check the now limp body you're carrying." Rotom said.
Dranma blinked before looking down at Lillie in shock. The blonde was foaming at the mouth with swirling eyes from the close contact with a PokeGirl. As the others got Lillie sorted out I approached the now depressed and on all fours Dranma.
"Hey, don't worry about that…she's got some trauma she's working through that you didn't know." Dranma looked up at me. "I'm Michael."
Dranma stood up abruptly and with a hard look. I took a step back as the several times bigger than me PokeGirl loomed over me. What's going on? Why'd she get so serious all of a sudden?
Everyone was on edge as Dranma stared me down before she put a soft hand on my chest, right over my mysterious scar.
"Dranma." She growled in a low rumble. She brought her other hand up and opened my shirt to inspect my scar. I was uncomfortable to say the least but a panicked Rotom kept flashing the words "Let her do it" stayed any freakout I would have had.
"Dranma…Dranma.."
"Uhh- She says 'I know that must have hurt and still hurts. Find solace in the friends you have.'" Rotom said. "She has a point, Master! It looks pretty old and I don't think anyone here would judge you."
"What? What's wrong?" Mallow asked as she joined us. Dranma removed her hand and Mallow let out a large gasp. Everyone got a look at the 3in scar that crossed above my heart.
"H-how did-" Sophocles started to ask but was cut off by a sharp glare from Rapp.
"I don't know." I admitted. "I don't remember a lot of things and this scar is just one of them." Not entirely a lie, how I got here was still one hell of a mystery.
"It doesn't hurt…right?" Lana asked softly, her eyes locked to the jagged nature of the scar tissue.
"No, it's fully healed." I shook my head.
"When-" Kiawe started to ask before a loud clap from Rapp cut him off. She turned to glare at everyone.
"Everyone listen up!" She commanded. "It's obvious he doesn't want to talk about it right now. So we all shut up and leave it till he wants to talk. Got it?!" Everyone nodded. "Good. Now…Mallow, how's lunch looking?" Mallow barely was able to tear her eyes away from my scar before saying.
"It's, uhh, it's all ready. We even have enough for Grandma Forest." She said hoarsely.
"Then let's eat. I'm starving." The hot headed pinkette declared.
"Yeah only cause of all that running you did." Sophocles snickered as he started moving to the table.
Mallow reluctantly left me and Grandma Forest behind to help serve the table. I rebuttoned my shirt and felt a clawed hand landed on my shoulder.
"Dranma." She grunted
"'Sometimes you humans need a push.'" Rotom translated.
"Geez got all that from a word?" I joked with the Plasma girl. "But thanks. I probably needed to get it out of the way."
"Dranma?" "'and the other secret you're hiding?'"
"One bridge at a time. Also how would you even know that?" I asked incredulously.
"Oh dragons, Master. They're such bullshit."
We waved goodbye as Dranma took to the air. Mallow really went all out for lunch and had made everyone their own burger and sides, even Dranma had gotten her own plate. After paying our compliments to the chef and cleaning up Dranma had decided it was time for her to go. I didn't blame her when I saw the clouds swiftly rolling in on the horizon.
"We should go too. Looks like a storm is coming in." I pointed out.
"What? I didn't see any reports of rain today?" Kiawe joined me in looking out over the treetops. Sure enough dark clouds had begun forming slowly and were pushing towards us. Luckily it was enough to light a fire under everyone's ass. Sophocles, Tupp and Zipp set about cleaning up our mess while Kiawe and I disassembled the grill. The ladies went into the forest to change back and luckily the Dumbass Duo weren't stupid enough to try round 2 against Rapp.
"There, that should keep it in place." Kiawe said as we tightened the last of the secure vines I had found. We had decided it would be quicker if one of the PokeGirls carried the grill out for us and Pancham was selected to backpack it.
"Alright Pancham, let me know if it gets too heavy. I'd prefer we just drop it and come back for it than get caught in the storm." Pancham waved me off and started to jog in place, likely to get used to the extra weight she had on her back. I scanned the beach for trash and stragglers as I saw the girls leave the treeline.
"Alright let's go. I definitely want to get out of here before the storm hits." I said. Everyone nodded and we made the trek back. A chill went up my spine as we passed through the flower field. The Cutiefly colony were watching us from under the larger fact Cutiefly shot them a suspicious look reinforced that something was definitely wrong. I couldn't tell exactly what was bothering them but I definitely didn't want to stick around and find out.
The jungle was even worse. The PokeGirls were even more aggressive. Murkrow, Pikipek, and Spearow watched us from the treetops while Paras, Yungoos, and even Rattata followed us from the shadows of the brush. Claws, talons and teeth flashed and were definitely rattling our more fearful members. Lillie had basically fused to my back for protection and Sophocles was one wrong move from leaping into Kiawe's arms.
"Master…" Rotom said queasily, stumbling through the air. "Something's wrong. Something's really really wrong."
I held my hand out for her to rest on and she practically deflated into my palms. "What's wrong, Rotom?"
"It feels like…someone or something is just…telling me to be mad. To be angry. The other wild PokeGirls too…" She said while rubbing her "temples". I frowned and put her in my front pocket. I nodded to the more experienced fighters and we all tossed out our PokeGirls. Cutiefly and Zubat took hovering positions above us, daring the fliers to come meet them. Turtonator and Trubbish waddled alongside us to form a solid against the trees while Vulpix and Salandit (much to the displeasure of the Fire/Poison Type) took a position against the river we were guiding ourselves with.
This turned out to be a kind of bad thing. We had our protection out and that made the wild PokeGirls surrounding us back off. However, judging from the growls and chirps sent our way and our PokeGirls showing off their own intimidation displays, it only served to anger the residents. It also slowed us down significantly. Our own fearful members combined with Turtonator's speed and girth with Trubbish…it wasn't looking good.
It would only take a small drop to cause a flood…it's a shame we got more than just one drop.
A sudden crack of thunder heralded the falling of rain. All at once, the bottom of the clouds fell out and water came down in powerful sheets. Darkness fell quickly as the clouds choked any of the last remaining light rays of the mid afternoon sun.
"Get away from the bank!" Lana shouted over the roaring rain. The river was swelling from the downpour pushing us further into the brush. A panicked Salandit climbed on top of her Trainer's head and Vulpix was pushed against Lillie. Thankfully she was too scared all around to freeze up from contact with a PokeGirl. The wild PokeGirls were not happy about our sudden shift in position. The growls were deafening and then all at once they attacked.
Zubat was hovering over her Trainer when a Murkow's sudden cry signaled an attack. Zubat was quickly tackled out of the air and the two tumbled before the Poison Bat could throw the crow off. 3 Pikipek attempted to dive onto us as well but Cutiefly spun a quick Fairy Wind to blow them off course. A Yungoos and Paras jumped Trubbish with a dual Slash attack. A blast ripped out as Turtonator quickly punished 2 more Yungoos attempting to attack the back of the Fire Dragon Type.
"We need to move! Spread out!" Kiawe shouted, turning to command Turtonator to Flamethrower more PokeGirls rushing from the brush. Sophocles screamed and hit the muddy ground as a Spearow swooped low to attack him. Togedemaru released herself from her pokeball and launched a desperate Discharge. Good news, Spearow, Murkow and Pikipek were quickly dropped from the air as their muscles locked up from the super effective attack. Bad news, so did Zubat and Cutiefly, with only Cutiefly getting back up in the air with some effort.
"Sophocles! Direct attacks! No AoE!" I shouted. I turned to a buzzing Cutiefly, "You good, hun?" She nodded through gritted teeth and threw a Stun Spore to paralyze a Machop that had engaged a dodging Pancham. Pancham quickly spun on her heel and drove her other foot into her opponent's sternum.
"Is Zubat okay?" I asked Rapp who nodded.
"Just a bit dazed. We have to get out of here. I don't know what's got them all pissed but they'll keep coming the longer we're here." I scanned the fights that had spread us out from each other. Kiawe and Zipp were covering our backs. Any PokeGirls that dodge the poison artillery of Trubbish were being pushed back by flames and explosions. Lana, Tupp and Mallow were fighting against a group of Water PokeGirls from the river. Water Guns had pinned the 3 behind trees as the pressurized water stripped bark off them. Togedemaru was sticking close to a cowering Sophocles launching small electrical shocks at anything that got close, not powerful enough to be a move but enough to deter the Yungoos that had surrounded them. Wait…where's Lillie?!
"Kyahhhh!" Lillie screams snapped my head to where she was. She had been separated by 2 Yungoos, who were slowly stalking her. Credit to her bravery, she had apparently found a sizable stick to keep the closing teeth away from her. That was until one of her wild swings were caught in the teeth of the encroaching danger.
"Fairy Wind! I shouted. Cutiefly sprung into action literally using my shoulder as a springboard with surprising force. She spun in a tight spiral with sparkling pink wind trailing her. One of the Yungoos had lunged to attack Lillie but was blown away with opening wounds as Cutiefly arrived in style.
I didn't even get a sign of relief as I saw why the Yungoos had been slowly stalking her instead of just attacking. Lillie fell backwards as a large PokeGirl stepped from her hiding place. She was easily as tall as Turtonator and had just as much muscle. Her brown fur outlined her muscular frame giving her an appearance not unlike a detective's coat. Her B cup breasts were perky with pale nipples that stood out against her tanned body. A toned flat stomach implied intense training. Her blonde hair was long and pulled straight back and with the yellow streak that came from her shoulders all the way down her furry tail gave it a continuous look. Her fingers ended in sharpened menacing claws and her teeth were bigger than that. It was obvious she was the leader of all the Yungoos here and we had just been led into her trap.
"Gumshoos…" She growled in a beastly rumble before pulling her hand back, claws glowing with the white Normal energy of a Slash.
I don't know when my body started moving. Maybe it's because I realized Cutiefly wouldn't be able to turn in time. Maybe it's because Vulpix and Pancham were already engaged. Maybe it was everyone's scream of horror. She's gonna…
I was already there when the claw started to fall.
She can't… I thought as I desperately slid in front of her. My eyes locked with the bloodshot eyes of the PokeGirl. Eyes that were filled with recognition…and more malice.
I can't let her die… I thought as pain bloomed from my shoulder to my hip. The blood rushed to my ears and the ringing started. I saw the bloodshot eyes fill with shock, horror and regret all at once. I felt my body hit the ground and muffled voices screaming. A blue and white light was the last thing I saw as I felt my eyes close.
The sound of shearing metal and horns grew louder. A voice calling for me to hang on. The blood soaked piece of metal pinning me to the seat of my car seemed to grow even larger as I looked at it.
She can't die like me…
