Justice League of Amazons: Dragonborn
A/N: Hello everyone and welcome back to this particular story! Been roughly 2 to 3 years since I last touched this since I got distracted with other stories, but I hope this chapter makes up for the time spent away from this story.
Anyway, not gonna bother rambling, on with the show!
…
Chapter 3
Earth's Orbit. The Justice League Watchtower.
The newly reformed Justice League had spent much of the day ending riots that had occurred across the globe. Of course, many rioters were not happy to see Diana and demanded that she answer for what Aresia had done, hurling abuse at the Amazon Princess. One particular incident stood out when a young woman carrying a wrapped bundle of blankets marched up to Diana and…
SLAP!
Although Diana had a high level of endurance and tolerance to pain and blunt trauma, the slap from the young woman hit her harder than anything she had felt before. Diana held her cheek in shock, and she looked at the young woman who was crying, tears pouring down her cheeks as she glared spitefully at her.
"Give him back," the young woman said through her sobs.
"I…" Diana tried to say when the young woman cut her off with a scream.
"GIVE ME BACK MY SON!"
Holding up the bundle in her arms, the young woman partially unfolded it to reveal a baby boy who would've been a beautiful and healthy bundle of joy but was now a lifeless corpse. Diana could only stare in mute horror as she was starkly reminded of the casualties of Aresia's actions.
The young woman then spoke again through the tears streaming down her cheeks. "What did my son ever do?! What's his crime?! Being born a male?! YOU BITCH! We trusted you!" She sobbed hysterically. "He was the only child I had with my husband, who's dead too, because of your sister," she said through her tears, laying down the dead infant on the ground, the young woman then brought out a pistol and held the barrel to her temple, her finger twitching on the trigger.
Her last words to Diana were, "You wanted a world without men, Amazon? Well, you have it now… AND I WANT NO PART OF IT!" That said, the young woman pulled the trigger and with a loud bang and a spray of blood, grey matter and bone, the young grieving mother had killed herself in front of Diana who was too shellshocked to stop her.
The crowd then went ballistic and Shayera immediately ordered Diana to pull out and head back to the Watchtower to avoid aggravating the public even further. With a heavy heart, Diana had returned to the Watchtower, went straight to her room and lay down on the bed and wept silent tears.
The rest of the Justice League had returned to the Watchtower. Kara had made to go to Diana's room, but Shayera stopped her telling her that Diana needed time to be alone to process everything. Witnessing a young woman kill herself would be a lot to process for Diana, more so that the young woman had been a mother with a baby and a husband.
As the Justice League nursed bruises and scrapes, all of them received ending riots and preventing suicides and looting, the communication line to the Watchtower rang. Shayera immediately picked up the phone.
"Hawkgirl here," the Thanagarian said in a tired and agitated voice. "I beg your pardon?" she asked then her eyes went under her mask and she yelled, "YOU HAVE A LIVING MALE AT STAR LABS?!"
This got everyone's attention and they all began yelling out questions, wanting answers. Shayera listened to the communication line from STAR Labs intently, trying to filter out the noise from the Justice League.
"Alright, we'll be there as soon as possible. Watchtower out!" Hanging up the line, Shayera looked at the Justice League and said, "We've got a living surviving male at STAR Labs, and a mob has formed outside demanding to see him," she summed up the situation for everyone to hear. "We need to get down there and bring the guy to safety! Move out!" she ordered. Although everyone was tired and exhausted, they all scrambled to the javelins and left the Watchtower, re-entering Earth's atmosphere and flying towards Metropolis where the last possible hope humanity had was waiting for them.
…
Star Labs. Metropolis.
Caitlin Snow and Felicity Smoak looked and checked over the test results of Dragonborn's blood. Everything had come up green meaning all was well. Better than that in fact. They exposed a blood cell to some procured bacteria of Aresia's virus and the virus did nothing to the blood cell.
They ran another test to be sure with some samples of Aresia's virus and Dragonborn's blood cells. Some blood cells had died, but they were only a small number.
"Are you seeing this, Felicity?" Caitlin asked Felicity who nodded and replied, "Seeing. Having a hard time believing."
"Do you know what this could mean? For the world now?" Caitlin asked.
"I'm starting to," Felicity said slowly with a nod of her head. "What is it in Dragonborn's body that allows him to resist the virus?" she wondered out loud.
"A scan showed some kind of residual energy inside the blood cells," Caitlin said. "Maybe some kind of radiation that repels most harmful bacteria?" she theorised.
"Maybe that energy is, and I can't believe I'm saying this, magic?" Felicity said.
"Well, given that our new friend is basically D&D on steroids, it's highly probable," Caitlin said as her nose wrinkled in thought. She then shook her head and said, "Either way, if we're right, then Mr Dragonborn could be the key to saving the human race from the verge of extinction."
"What are you saying exactly?" Felicity enquired although she had a pretty good idea what Caitlin was getting at.
"Well, any child born of Dragonborn's blood may be immune to the virus," Caitlin said in response.
"If that even is possible, how do you think Mr Dragonborn will react to that?" Felicity stated questioningly.
"I suppose we'll have to ask him that," Caitlin said as she glanced over her shoulder at the man in question who was sitting calmly in his chair unmoving as a statue made of onyx metal.
"Is he asleep in there? He hasn't moved at all," Felicity remarked.
Caitlin shrugged before she walked over to the man and gently tapped his shoulder. Dragonborn's helmeted head turned to look at her making her squeak in surprise. "What is it?" Dragonborn asked calmly.
"We ran the tests on your blood, Mr Dragonborn," Caitlin said in a small voice. "It turns out you're immune to the virus," she told him.
"I see," Dragonborn said with a nod of his head. "Any reason why?" he asked.
"Well, that's what I wanted to ask you," Caitlin replied. "A scan of your blood showed some kind of residual energy. Could you tell us what that is, if you do know?" she asked.
"Magicka is the only explanation I can think of right now," Dragonborn said.
"Magicka?" Felicity parroted as she moved to stand beside Caitlin in front of Dragonborn.
"The lifeblood of magic," Dragonborn clarified. "It's what allows mages of my world to use and cast spells. Nearly all living things have a core of magicka inside them and many have the potential to utilise it," he explained.
"And what happens if say your… core of magicka runs out?" Felicity asked.
"Those with magicka inside them can absorb ambient magicka to replenish their magicka core," Dragonborn said. "Failing that, one can consume potions of magicka to quickly replenish it," he added.
"Would it be reasonable to assume that if any children you have will a core of magicka of their own?" Caitlin asked.
"I see no reason why they wouldn't," Dragonborn said with a shrug of his shoulders.
"Right," Felicity said nodding her head. As Felicity opened her mouth to ask another question, a security guard came rushing into the room, an urgent expression on her countenance.
"We've got a situation outside!"
"What's going on?" Caitlin asked worriedly.
The security guard said, "A mob has formed outside! They're demanding to see Mr Dragonborn and they're threatening to break in!"
Dragonborn stood from his seat and walked out the room. "Wait! Where are you going?!" Felicity asked him as she scrambled to catch up with the man.
"I'm going to deal with this mob," Dragonborn said simply as he continued to walk unabated and unperturbed.
"Do you not get that you are the last living male on the planet?!" Felicity said to him as she moved to stand in front of him. "That mob could tear your apart or drag you somewhere against your will!" she added.
"So?" Dragonborn replied before he moved past Felicity leaving her gawking in disbelief. Shaking her head to rid herself of the disbelief, Felicity said to Caitlin, "Call the Justice League! We can't let our only chance at fixing things be torn apart by a desperate mob!"
…
The Javelins lands just a short mile away from STAR Labs. Shayera observed the chanting crowd of women gathered outside STAR Labs through a pair of short-range binoculars. "It looks pretty bad, all things considered," the Thanagarian commented as she lowered the lenses and handed them to Helena who looked at the mob.
Kara and Karen who used their super vision to see the crowd both nodded their agreement. "What's the plan?" Karen asked Shayera.
"We need to go in through the back way and take the package out through the back way, or have Zatanna teleport him to the Javelins," Shayera said.
"And if something goes wrong?" Dinah asked playing Devil's Advocate.
"Then we may have to use a little force," Shayera replied as her hand touched the handle of her Nth metal mace.
Then Karen gave a short exclamation of alarm. "Look down there!" The heroes looked to see the front doors of Star Labs open to reveal a black armoured knight exit the building.
"Wild guess, but I think that's the guy," Huntress said dryly.
"No shit," Black Canary said snippily. "What's he doing revealing himself like this?" she then asked.
The black armoured knight looked at the mob of women who were all staring him dumbfounded before a few made to move towards him. The knight then shouted a strange and thunderously loud word that had the League clapping their hands over their ears in surprise and discomfort.
DREM!
An almost ripple effect happened as the crowd that had been on the verge of rioting suddenly were subdued and docile. The knight said some words and the crowd docilely left quietly.
The League had watched what had just happened. "Well, that happened," Vixen remarked in surprise. "Think this guy knows magic like you, Zee?" she asked looking at Zatanna.
"If he does, then it's a magic I've never seen before," Zatanna replied. "He shouted some word, couldn't tell what it was, but it rendered that crowd docile as sheep," she said as she put a gloved hand to her chin in thought.
"Either way, we need to bring him to the Watchtower and ask him some questions," Shayera said as she stepped off the edge of the building and glided smoothly down to land a short distance from the black knight who looked at her.
As Hawkgirl got a good look at the knight, she felt a tiny spike of fear run down her spine as she took in the aura of the man before her. It was a widely accepted phenomenon that all warriors had some kind of aura that differentiated from most mundane people. Some would described the aura as a kind of scent, one that smell of blood and it was that scent that caught Shayera's attention as she looked at the armoured warrior before her.
It was a thick heady stench of blood that rolled off the man standing in front of Shayera. Shayera could only describe it as if the warrior had bathed in a river of blood and intentionally swam towards the ocean of blood. Although the warrior's aura wasn't currently threatening right now, Shayera felt the hairs of the back of her neck stand on end as the warrior stared at her unmoving.
The knight then spoke in a calm raspy baritone voice. "Are you friend or foe?" he asked.
"A friend, perhaps," Shayera said lightly trying not to let her voice crack or show any sign of weakness.
"What is your name, winged warrior?"
"Hawkgirl."
A slight tilt of the head. "Hawkgirl?" the knight repeated.
"Didn't get to choose what I wanted to be called," Shayera said with a slightly sardonic smile on her lips.
"I see." The warrior nodded his head in understanding. "I am called the Dovahkiin, or Dragonborn in the mortal tongue," he said. "What race are you?" he then asked.
"Thanagarian," Shayera said seeing no reason to lie or conceal the truth as the rest of the league joined her on the ground. "What race are you, Dragonborn?" the redhaired Thanagarian asked.
"Human, though of which ethnicity I am not completely certain," the Dovahkiin said.
"Can you prove you're human?" Helena suddenly asked.
The Dragonborn looked at the brunette who did her best to not flinch. After a long moment, the Dragonborn reached under the chin of his helmet and loosened the strap before putting his hands to his helmet and lifted it off.
The heroines had looks of surprise on their faces as they looked upon the Dovahkiin's face for the first time. Shayera could tell right away this man was a warrior through and through and it helped that he had a handsome face in an aristocratic sort of way. Like a warrior king; the kind that didn't hang back in a tent directing armies and letting others fight for him, but the kind that would be on the front lines beside his soldiers.
Zatanna gazed intently at the Dovahkiin; although relatively new to the mystic arts, she had been trained in how to detect sources of magic and just one look at the man before her almost had her reeling at just the sheer power inside him.
The rest of the heroines all stared intently at the Dragonborn who then said, "Satisfied?" Slow nods were made in response. The Dovahkiin then put his helmet back on and asked, "So, may I ask what you are here for?"
"We came to take you to a secure location, until we can make a statement to the public and smooth any ruffled feathers that may have been had," Shayera said in a straight forward manner.
"Very well, then let us get under way," the Dragonborn said.
"Right now?" Mari asked in surprise.
"Yes," the Dragonborn said in response. "No time like the present," he added.
"Umm, Hawkgirl?" Supergirl asked Shayera who was a little surprise too at Dragonborn's blunt acceptance.
"Right. This way then," the Thanagarian said dumbly as she pressed her Watchtower remote and called for the Javelin to meet them.
The Dragonborn gave a hum of interest as the Javelin plane approached and landed on the ground before him. "A flying machine? Interesting," he said.
"Never seen one before?" Black Canary asked the warrior who shook his head in response and said, "No. But, Odahviing sometimes spoke of flying machines created by the Dwemer when they still roamed Tamriel."
"Dwemer?" Power Girl asked.
"Dwarves."
"Ah."
"Well, c'mon, time we get to the Watchtower and get some answers," Shayera said as she climbed aboard the Javelin as did the rest of the League and their new friend.
After everyone got on board, Hawkgirl started up the engines and the Javelin hummed to life before rising into the air before jetting off towards the upper atmosphere.
TO BE CONTINUED…
A/N: There! After such a long wait, I finally updated this! I deeply and sincerely apologise to those of you who have waited so long and so patiently for this story to be updated. And I apologise again for this chapter being so short, but at least I updated it. I cannot promise regular updates for this story, or any of my stories really, but I will try to make an effort to be consistent with updates, however long they may take. I am in the process of trying to update some of my older stories and there's a few that need attention, but it kinda depends what mood I'm feeling when I start writing, which more often than not leads to new stories being created.
*Sigh* Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter despite how short it is, so I hope this shows I'm not dead in this story.
Be kind to one another,
Angry lil' elf.
