It was not supposed to be any different than any other search for food. One dragon in particular was flying over a usual spot that was crowded with food, but also Vikings.

The Night Fury, which has two pairs of wings with a shape similar to a bat: two mobile, ear-like appendages on the back of its head that show its mood and help it hear. She has a pair of large, yellowish-green, cat-like eyes and sharp retractable teeth.

Unlike most dragon species, the Night Fury lacks any kind of horns, only having flaps and aerodynamic fin-like appendages. The tip of the snout is also prominent, resembling the rhinarium of a mammal.

The Night Fury's aerodynamic jet-like wings and sleek body allow it to fly at supersonic speeds, faster than any other dragon. It uses the fins on its tail to help steer and maneuver, however, a Night Fury will be incapable of flying if one of these fins is missing or destroyed, which shows that they are also used for ballast in flight. It is capable of taking flight from a standing start like a pigeon.

This Night Fury in particular had recently became a mother, it had two sons...at least it did. One of her young ones was hunted and killed before she could save it or their father.

Now she's a single mother to her last son as their species is going to be likely hunted to extinction. And in order to survive, she has taken shelter in a nearby nest where she lives under the control of the Queen Dragon. She leads the expeditions to find food for her as she cannot hunt for herself, and they live in safety until she can find somewhere safer that she can raise her son.

But coming across her usual place for food, she was shocked to see the whole place was burned to the ground, but not by dragons: by a rival tribe.

Sniffing around, she had found no signs of any survivors: humans, animal, nothing.

But she heard something faint in the distance, raspy breathing. Following the breathing to its owner, she finds a female human holding something wrapped in her arms.

The woman had auburn hair kept in three separate braids behind her back and has pale skin. She wears a long yellow sleeve tunic, an orange belt, and brown leggings that appear layered. She has armbands and boots with spikes on the sides. She also has a few layers of cloth wrapped around her waist, with her left leg exposed.

But she looked badly bruised and injured, trying to hold on as much as possible.

The female took notice of the dragon staring at her and let go of the bundle in her arms and the dragon noticed that it's a child, barely a year old. The child doesn't seem injured, but the dragon's not sure what this human is asking of her.

"Please...take care of him for me..." the child's mother asks of the dragon before closing her eyes and drifts off. "He's different..."

The dragon listens to the mother's last request then approached the little one. It was plump, small, and adorable. It then began looking into the Night Fury's eyes with its forest green ones. He then laughs reaching up for her. At that moment, the dragon grew attached to it.

The mother Fury reached out her nose and sniffs it as the hatchling giggles and places his hand against her face, causing the mother to coo. That's when she noticed something she has never seen on any other human.

Dragon ears.

In fact, there were many slight differences that made him look like he was some human/dragon hybrid.

"It can't be him...can it?" She wondered, thinking of the prophecy.

Taking the hatchling into her maw, she began to take flight. The sun was beginning to rise, and she needed to head home fast.

As she lead the group home, she was given questionable looks by her fellow comrades about the hatchling, but none spoke against it. They glided through the never ending sea of until coming up to their sanctuary, where she has found a safe place to raise

Once they entered, the dragon's took the stolen and hunted prey and took it to their families and hatchlings.

The Night fury flew up to her nest and found her friend a Deadly Nadder who was looking after her son while she was gone.

"Nadder." The Night Fury whispered to her, as she too fell victim to losing a hatchling to Hunters.

"Yes, Fury?"

The mother then revealed the small hatchling to her and surprising the Nadder.

"A human?" Nadder questioned in shock. "Fury, what are you doing with one of those here?"

"It's mother was dying. She asked me to take care of her hatchling." Fury explains to her. 'It was defenseless and alone, and it didn't fear me.'

'A child not afraid of dragons?' Nadder asked in shock.

Fury pushed the hatchling with her nose towards the Nadder who approached it with caution as the little one just smiled and reached to pet the dragon with a giggle. That's when she too took notice of the dragon relations.

"Unbelievable." Nadder says in disbelief before looking back towards Fury. "What do you plan on doing with him? If he is the Dragon Prince, he will be hunted by dragon and human alike."

"I'll keep him safe, raise him like one of us. And get him somewhere that he can properly be trained for when the time is right." Fury promised as she took the new hatchling to her den where her son rested in the warmth of burned rock.

He had sensed his mother's return and stretched before pouncing towards her. He then stops when he sees his new sibling. Gently, Fury place it on the den floor allowing it to crawl towards its new brother.

At first the young Night Fury was skeptical of about the new arrival, but when the little one reached out it's little paw, her son sniffed it before purring and leaning his head against it.

The new addition to their family then let out a little noise, showing a sign of happiness. Picking it up, she went to her little nest to sleep. Both her little ones fell asleep in an instant by each other's side, as Fury then knew they'd be the best of siblings.

"Protect each other little ones, for you two might be the pathway to bring us a better future."
