Becoming President
It was easy. Government officials, bureaucrats, the media, and the public are always easy to convince, I just need to smile here, wave there, promise this, passionate speeches to rile the masses with half-truths and half-lies to serve them better while giving me more power. The power that I need to continue this crusade to a country I had promised to serve with all of my might, forgoing any convention and reason that lay the foundation of a democracy, a power to strip more of that Idea ironically to save it. If it takes a demagogue to do it: "I have no choice."
Mexico is a testing ground, a villainous thing to say but it is the truth, the country is too important to ignore, a core state that I have calculated that the U.S needed without question; the list is short, there are only 6 countries that I saw indispensable for America to flourish. The core part of the empire, that's what U.S. Leftists often called it, but a shorter list, ones without Europe and the Middle East.
Canada, oh Canada, how important you are for your brother. The UK, specifically England, it is the son's time to take care of his old man. Australia, resources of minerals, New Zealand, because of New Zealand, Japan as a foothold on Asia proper, and Mexico, human resource, a population ripped to be taken and used. There are some others of course to be taken into consideration, Singapore, Korea, and Israel, but all of them are not as important as those 6; they are optional side quests.
Canada is more or less secure; its population is easy to influence by soft power alone; those mooses in the north could bellow all they want on how different they are from the USA, how different their country is from their brother down south, ignoring that we are the same our banking and housing market, the economy is almost interchangeable with each other only with them managing their Healthcare in exchange of exponential economic growth that they cannot sustain in the long run. What they did is noble, the right thing even, but they are running out of cash reserves and trust from businessmen, and after that the common people to keep an illusion of economic stability; they are not the United States, where it can print as much money as they want for our army is unchallenged, with the dollar being backed by the power of the U. S state, there isn't one out there will question America's power as a hegemon, without the U. S military, we will be in economic ruin, and unfortunately Canada's military is better to not be discussed. Sooner or later in combination with idealism, political degradation, and mismanagement of the economy by ideological motive will destroy them.
The UK is equivalent to America what Greece was to Rome, it's a cultural base and a main staging point to keep an eye on the East (well Europa and middle east), checking for any growing power that could challenge them.
Australia and New Zealand are resource tiles, with any minerals and foodstuff that could sustain America's industry and population.
Japan, the foothold of the Pacific, is our strongest and most important ally; they are more or less almost our equal, in exchange for our military protection they will handle the technological front and economy, being also a new possible cultural center to follow with Japan taking the lead on how to conduct public order.
(See Japan is America's wife XD, the relationship between two countries is interesting lol, an outgoing extrovert just barges into an introvert room and forces them to be more open.)
And then there is Mexico, America equivalent to Rome's Germania, unruly, barren undeveloped, but with a massive population and land that has the potential to be profitable with time while also being a good ground for military recruitment, the country is essential for the U.S to have any discussion to seriously be more inward and focus at the domestic matter without retreating too much from the world stage and give its role as a hyperpower to another country like China or Iran. The thing is, unlike the other imperial core, Mexico is a wild land, full of culture, people full of will, and strength that isn't easily bent and manipulated to follow our… Wants. They are a state, a good one at that, even with a corrupt government and cartel problems; the honest and hardworking people of Mexico somehow managed to build an impressive economy. They are industrious; the kind of people you want to be your neighbor and even family. And because of exactly that we need them more than ever.
That's why my view on Trump's rhetoric toward Mexico is stupid as hell, the guy has some good ideas, but the way he handles our southern border is idiotic instead of investing them with money to improve our relationship making the wave of immigrants stay in Mexico so they will not cross the southern border, he chose to antagonize them. The Democrats also don't escape my ire, you can't just let anyone in, you need to vet them first, and give them the necessary resources to flourish and education so they will not be a burden if you just let them in instead of finding the land of opportunities; those strong-willed people that deserved better lives will be exploited in the underbellies of the criminal world, given unfair wages, etc. There needs to be a middle ground, not extreme measures!!!
For 150 years we have treated them lesser than us, well, no more! They are our friends, neighbors and after the many immigrants that have settled in the U.S, they are family!! In the same way that Britain and Canada are to The U. S. And we've treated them poorly, centuries of humiliation and exploitation must be stopped, we must hold our hands together for a brighter future. No more will there be a preferred nation in the imperial core, all shall be treated equally with dignity, for we need each other to be victorious, no more masters and slaves, only cooperation for each other's benefits.
I trust Aaron to help me. He seems to be gleeful at me wanting to make Mexico our focus. Though he was chuckling evilly when I proposed it to him, I know that his heart is in the right direction, Aaron would never think to exploit Mexico, we've discussed this at length with each other and we both agree that Mexico must be by our side.
Rebecca also supported me, but she was afraid that something would happen to me, after the assassination attempt at the Dakotas the girl has been worried sick every time I made these daring decisions, but after she made a phone call to a girl called Jessica to have a shipment of trucks to Mexico and give the contents to the asset there, she was strangely calm and collected. Whatever it is, the business meeting with the strange woman to set up something at the warehouse made her happy. To my confusion of course, but I chose to ignore it, just a weird quirk of the old money girl I guess.
"I must admit, Senator Nathaniel, what you're planning is ingenious and very generous. This the first time anyone had given us any offer like this! How did you convince the industrial base of your state to invest in Northern Mexico? I mean I have no intention of disrespecting you after what you have done for us, but you're just a senator, you are powerful enough to have this much influence that almost half of your medium and lower manufacturing industries relocate up there is incredible!" the Mexican President said with astonishment and his staff also looked befuddled. I heard whispering in the back of the room but only a faint and something about Jesus?
"You have to thank my wife for that, she's the one that made all the major industries have a united front in Michigan and the rust belt. As a result we have a common goal with my wife using the money I earn to make cooperation between companies smooth, it's almost like they are controlled by one person alone! She's incredible at making them work together." Rebecca for all intents and purposes is my secretary and treasurer while I'm good at making money I'm not good at handling it, that's what Rebecca forte is, heck her hand is so full at managing our family assets that she has to quit her job! All the money I made was immediately invested in other companies in the rust belt to give them a cash injection in a desperate gamble to kick the industry running. Rebecca had done such a wonderful job that now most companies in the rust belt have given them a 30% stock percentage. I don't know how much influence that means to the companies that were Rebecca's job is, as long as it is not 50 percent plus I don't mind what she's doing. I do not want to control the rust belt industries after all that would be bad for the economy.
(Naruto you dumb fool!! You don't need 50 percent ownership to have a major influence in a company! 30 percent means that for the majority of those companies you are the largest shareholder and that means the almost defecato in charge!!!)
"Then we must thank your wife also then, with this northern Mexico could be prosperous. But still are you sure about this Mr. Nathaniel? Northern Mexico is famous for the cartels." the man said the last part in a whisper. "Especially after there's a rumor going around that a cartel founded by special forces is now practically killing its competition with such proficiency you would think they are trained U.S special forces." the man said seriously.
"That's the reason why I wanted to invest in northern Mexico. The best thing to do to combat them is beating them at their own competition as the main industry at that place. If we give the poor people of northern Mexico a means to better their lives without the cartel, providing an alternative and essentially better service we could replace the cartels as Mexico's main industry. We can slowly choke the cartels while also gaining an important trade partner for my state, it's a win-win situation for all of us!" With the growth of industry infrastructure will follow and with infrastructure following logistics could be better, and better logistics means better control for the central state, curtailing the absence of the law. Plus more infrastructure and industries means cheaper stuff to consume, making the blackmarket as a secondary option for trade in Mexico as we provide better service, price and hospitality without any gun possibly pointed at your head.
This is also a first step for us to have borders just like the Europeans with each other, making movement between countries better and more accessible; that means more workers to the state and the reverse is true for Mexico who desperately need high skill labor that the U.S is overflowing with. Truly I couldn't see the downside of this plan, Mexican American cooperation is the best thing we could do since the marshall plan! And to think all of that could be derailed with American extremism, foolish. (Both left and right)
"So do you agree with my plan Mr. President?" I can't hide my excitement! This deal alone will make me able to win the US presidency without questions! And at first I thought this was just to soften the blow of me not supporting Trump or the democrats, but it seems I was wrong. This is more than that: this is one of those deals of the century, the ones you learn in history books. I truly have mastered the art of the deal. Rather than use this as me to defend myself I could attack the two parties, pointing out their squabbling ineffective for America and strengthen myself as a solid third and best choice! Any third parties I'm making will have a wide support after I founded it. In addition this will help me when I plan to become governor of Michigan, the economic benefit will only be felt when I take the reins and this will also show me as not just a popular populist that could just talk but a competent-no genius administrator. Hey you gotta take free propaganda wins at times.
"OF COURSE!" The man jumped to take my hand and shake it furiously with a smile on his face. "Mr. Nathaniel, you have Mexico, my party and my entire administration as an ally. We can't wait when you become president and will lead the world to a better future." He said with tears in his eyes.
"You could trust me Mr. President, Mexico will always be a US friend and equal," I smiled, "without question. "
……
We can see here Nathaniel's obliviousness of what his Allies, and even his wife are doing XD
Ah the misunderstandings, I love it. At this rate, he's going to be emperor accidentally.

Cartel
Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico
CJNG, Hired Gun,
"Run! Run!" Pietro screamed for his life and for his brothers to join him. Gun fires and explosions permeated the tiny town, some of his brothers listened to him while hail of lead was raining to turn them to minced meat. And others choose to stay only for their defiance to be quickly answered with them falling to the ground, blood flowing from their chest and head. Some of those heads exploded by what he guesses being hit by a 50 bmg with matters now staining his CJNG uniform. He tried to follow his leader as he led the retreat to their stronghold but every order he made was quickly countered by the unknown forces as if they had eyes in the skies.
Pietro doesn't know what to do. He was just pressed into joining the gang and had no training whatsoever besides some basics of handling a weapon and how to follow orders from the more trained members of the gang; they are the ones who usually know what to do as most of them were once members of the Mexican military and even special forces!
At first he doesn't like it for the same reason anyone in the North doesn't want to join them, they have families and friends that were killed by cartel members, even if he's poor, he would not turn out to be the same ilk that killed the ones he knows and loves. That way of thinking was quickly blindsided by him once his pay was given by the cartel, equal to an American 10.000 dollar, an amount almost unheard of in his town. Safe to say Pietro quickly shut his traps about any complaints to the cartel, it's bad to bite the hand that feeds you after all. Besides what other alternatives he could do anyway? The government never helped him to make a proper living, as for too long he had wasted his 20s not finding any good jobs to support his family as the prices of commodities was too high for him to purchase relative to his salary before he became a cartel member.
The cartel gives him security and financial independence, stuff that the state should've given him, and even a community he could trust to protect his son! Say what you want about the cartel but they are a family driven initiative; the moment you join one, your family will fall under their protection, and that means other gang members will think twice to even think of a possibility to attack them. And for a cartel like Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), it's thrice. Their reputation is infamous, and one maybe except the Sinaloa cartel would even dare to attack them. They are all trained, equipment legally and illegally sourced from the U.S, almost every one of them have some sort of protection, hell they even have a tank! Well more of an armored vehicle, but compared to what the other cartels have; they are effectively an army. Even if Pietro is just a recruit there's no doubt in his mind after years fighting and training he's equal to the average Mexican soldier, his commanders are even more trained than him with one coming from every military branch except the Mexican marines: those self righteous bastards.
So when a no named gang started to attack the CJNG, he wasn't worried that some upstart trying to take the cartel lands, they'll be dealt with soon enough. That was 1 month ago, it only took one month for that confidence to shatter. It wasn't only the CJNG that was being attacked, the sinaloa, Mandelin, Los Zetas, almost all the largest are being attacked with coordination that Pietro never heard from any other cartel, heck even the government!
Whoever they are, they are trained, deadly, and motivated, with equipment that even the richest and most well equipped gangs could only dream of having. The cartels doesn't know whom they should blame, each other or the government when neither of them is responsible, so the classic tactic of targeting civilians as retaliation wouldn't work here, he knows because the Los Zetas had tried it, beheading some random daughter of an official trying to give them a message to stop, only for the mysterious enemy to focus on them and hunt them down and hang them at a public square at towns saying their tactics are futile, the Zetas tried to target more civilians but the enemy doesn't care and as a retaliation would only kill any Zetas that is involved in the kidnapping, murder/execution and the occasional rapes that they had recorded themselves to send a message to the enemy. Safe to say they're the ones that's getting the brunt of casualties, to the relief of the other cartels, sure we kill some civilians here and there but the Zetas they're not human; they're brutal!
The Zetas taking the brunt of casualties doesn't mean that the other cartel organizations aren't taking heavy losses. Their smuggling route has now become a war zone. The trade of cocaine and meth to the Americas is now being choked, with many smugglers found dead with headshots in their heads as night now can no longer be a cover for them to move the drugs. It's not like they patrol the border, no, that vexing of their business was handled by the U.S. Border patrol, the enemy somehow knows their storage facilities and just waits for any smuggler stupid enough to pick it up and send it and wait for night to finish the job. They tried to move the storage facilities, but that was met with anyone trying to move it being shown in video bleeding and pleading for their lives to be spared in the dark web. As a result no ones brave enough to cross the border, even desperate street rats.
"Pietro!" one of the more senior members of the cartel screamed at him. A bullet briefly grazed the cover as he took the main spotlight for the enemy, his role as leader of the group was clear as day. Acknowledging his command Pietro took cover at the same spot as him.
"Yes sir?" His group leader pointed at a ridge, a glint of light was visible and Pietro saw it with his eyes briefly only to duck as fast as possible as 5o BMG sniper fire was fired at them. Dust and dirt was lifted in his surroundings and he prayed for God thanking him that the bullet didn't penetrate the rock they're covering from. "No, sir. "
"Seriously? C'mon man just this once," he said while a grenade exploded near a group of his brothers and the sniper skillfully took down 2 guys with a collateral shot.
"Sir, I have a family, unless you want me and everyone here to get killed, maybe we should…"
"Retreat?"
"Yes, sir. "
Another explosion was set off and limbs and blood rained from the sky, as it's raining men (hallelujah) while screaming for their lives.
"You know what Pietro, let's retreat," relief rushed through him, thank goodness that the CJNG was mostly runned by rational men,not like those damn Zetas.
"You guys can't retreat!" the enemy said through a microphone with an accented Spanish. Realizing that they're American and everything has turned to shit ever since that senator was in Mexico, his leader and him just look at each other in silence.
"We're fucked. "

Just 2 or 5 more chapters until the Covid arc (Still not used to saying it.), and we can finally get into the meat and the butter and disaster that is the 2020s lol.
And yes the first option won in the poll easily
