Even though it's a Golden Family Rule to obey their mother no matter what, it's a rule that still gets broken semi-frequently. It's mostly Wonder doing all the rule-breaking, with Chiffon joining in on occasion.
But sometimes, their father breaks the rule, too.
One Saturday, when Victoria is too busy to pick the kids up from training, their father comes instead. The three of them walk out the gate, but their father steers them left when they should be going right.
"Where are we going, Daddy?" Wonder asks.
His father simply winks at him, eyes gleaming. "It's a surprise."
He leads them to an ice cream parlor, with tinted blue windows and clean tile floors. There are nearly a hundred flavours on display in pristine white containers, and not enough time in the world to possibly try them all.
Their father lets them get three flavours each, and they sit by the window and watch the people on the street outside as they enjoy their ice cream. Wonder had chosen bubblegum, peanut butter and chocolate biscuit. They all melt together into an unattractive brown goop that tastes as funny as it looks.
They all have to be quick; their mother is expecting them back at any moment. She'll be mad if she finds out how badly they've spoiled their appetites. It also means than even a tiny drop of ice cream on their clothes if enough cause for suspicion.
Wonder eats his ice cream in record time, taking care not to drop any, and joins his father and sister at the door. He'd much rather stay behind and try more ice cream, but then Mommy would be really upset.
So he relents, promising himself that when he's Victor, he can have as much ice cream as he wants, whenever he wants, and no one can tell him not to.
