Here I present myself with a new translated chapter!
Honestly, there's not much to say, so let's go straight to the reviews.
Sagittipotenta: Well, it's true that Rías is pretty beaten up in this story, but that's what this is about. It's not just her that's evil, it's all Demons in general and they have their own explanation for why they're evil. If you don't like that these characters are the antagonists, or if you don't like that Rias is so banished, then maybe this story isn't for you. After all, this is a fanfic and it's about everyone's preferences, it's completely normal that you don't like certain things.
Kashifek: I think I went a little overboard giving that spoiler hahaha. I just hope you can enjoy all these chapters and not be so anxious for chapter 79 to come.
With nothing more to add, it's time to begin.
Enjoy!
Issei was sitting on his bed with a rather thoughtful expression on his face. Up close you could witness that those thoughts were tormenting him a bit.
"Why do you have that wrinkled face?" Ophis magically appeared as in all her appearances.
The Goddess placed her hand on Issei's head and patted his head a couple of times rather tenderly.
"It's nothing, I was just a little worried." Issei stated with a slight smile as he watched Ophis worry about him.
"Rossweisse said goodbye in a hurry and looked quite altered." Issei replied, remembering how the Valkyrie had bolted for Asgard because of something Odin had told her.
"I don't think you should worry for now, she's strong." It was Ophis' simple reply that at first worked to calm him.
In fact, her words took him back to quite recent memories.
"Speaking of strong people, I remember now that almost all of my opponents were from the Khaos Brigade, and they all ended up dead or locked up." The protagonist commented, gaining Ophis' attention.
"What are you getting at with that?" The Goddess stopped stroking Issei's head to tilt her face rather interestedly.
"Well, I feel I must apologize to you..." He clarified, rubbing his hair with some nervousness. "You had summoned all those people for so many years with great effort to help you get your home back when the time came, and I feel that your plans were completely ruined because of me."
"You mean them? The reality is that almost all of them never agreed with my plans, so it never bothered me what happened." Ophis bowed her shoulders, indicating how little she cared about that issue.
"Besides, they never knew the real reason why I create the Khaos Brigade. I can only say that everything went just as Elohim said, so you shouldn't think about it anymore. Anyway, there is only the last test left before that happens..." This could only be heard in Ophis' thoughts, where the Goddess seemed to be somewhat satisfied to see that everything meditated was going as planned from the beginning.
"Hey, are you okay? You just stared off into nothingness a few seconds ago..." Issei stated as he waved his hand in front of the Goddess' face.
"Oh yeah. I was just remembering the last time I met Elohim and Great Red. It's amazing that such a weak God could have such incredible power as to predict that you would be born 1000 years from now." Replied the Goddess matter-of-factly, catching the young man's attention.
"Speaking of powers, there's something I want to ask you." Issei's comment gained the attention of Ophis, who looked at him intently. "I recently developed a healing style that literally appeared out of nowhere." Issei couldn't help but get serious at the question he was about to ask. "Since God told you exactly all the events that were to come in the future, I was wondering if it was that he talked about this development, since I seem to be the special focus of attention in his Prophecy."
"He said you would ask this." That was not an answer he would have expected.
How accurately could he have deciphered the future?
Now that he thought better of it, this must have been quite a burden to have to drag such a power behind his back.
"He also told me not to tell you about it. He told me not to ask you any more questions about it. He told me not to use that power until you fully understood where it came from. And lastly, he told me to be patient so Great Red and I can explain everything to you when the time is right." Culminated the Goddess, getting Issei quite confused.
"I still don't understand the reason for hiding all this from me if I'm supposed to be a key player in all this."
"The future is not something to be trifled with. Usually, predictions this accurate are the ones capable of saving the world, or destroying it. The fewer people who know about it, the better it is for everyone." Was Ophis' blunt reply, which quite caught Issei's attention.
"Now that you tell me this, I remember that the God hologram had said that one of his predictions to save the world almost ended up dooming it completely. But, the truth is, he had been rather vague in describing those events. In fact, he only made a small mention of it." The brown-haired man stated, remembering that day when he ascended to heaven in order to be aware about the prophecy that involved him firsthand.
"It is for that reason that I cannot tell you anything. If a single event comes to transform, that simple fact could trigger the doom of all the realms. Especially when we've already reached this point." The Goddess stated with some seriousness, which was rare to see from her.
Issei seemed to instantly understand all of Ophis' explanation and her reasons for not telling him about it. Although his curious mind could not help but wander at the woman's last words.
What did she mean when she stated that they had crossed a point at which return was impossible?
"From what I can see, your presence in the coming nights will be a fairly common occurrence, Ophis." Declared Tiamat, who was making her presence known.
"Is it a nuisance?" The Goddess asked her unable to help but raise an eyebrow.
"Of course not." Tiamat chuckled at her as she sat down next to her and grabbed her shoulder affectionately. "Everything has been more fun since we've had you around. I have to admit I was a little scared at first, but now I feel like you're one of us, and I can assure you that Penemue and Rossweisse feel the same way."
A small smile appeared on Ophis' face at the kind words of the woman who belonged to her own species.
"Thank you for accepting me."
CHAPTER 64: SEKIRYUUTEI REVOLUTION!
The walk to the Academy after a hard training with Penemue seemed to be quite refreshing for Issei. The young man was accompanied by his four best friends as they talked to each other with a cheerful air around them. The only one who didn't seem too into the conversation was Ophis, who was riding on Issei's back while holding the man's suitcase over her head with both hands, giving her a rather peculiar look.
The only ones who didn't seem to be as engaged in the conversation were Issei himself and a certain Valkyrie who had a face not at all common to her.
The Sekiryuutei couldn't help but narrow his eyes as he noticed that serious and bitter expression decorating the face of Rossweisse, who had been strangely silent during the entire journey to the academy.
"Something's going on..." Thought the only man in the group to himself.
Earlier Ophis had made clear that Ross was strong enough to take care of whatever trouble she was in. But for her to come back like this only indicated that the problems hadn't been solved in the slightest.
As he thought about what might be bothering the Valkyrie, time passed so quickly that he didn't realize they were already inside the Academy. He was only able to notice thanks to Ophis, who got off his back and handed him the suitcase to say goodbye.
"You heard that? They said a new inspector was going to check out the Academy for the rest of the week. Some of the girls have already seen him, and they say he's very handsome."
"Is that true? Maybe that's why they called that meeting in the gym."
"They're probably going to introduce him since he's supposedly not only handsome, but has great recognition and respect for how well he does his profession."
"That sounds amazing!"
Issei listened to the various conversations of the female students, managing to get a serious look on his face.
Somehow, he had a very bad feeling about all of this.
"An inspector?" Tiamat asked with some intrigue. "I hadn't heard anything about it."
"I'm not aware of it either. Clearly this is all rather sudden." Penemue stated as she crossed her arms under her breasts.
Issei looked at her for a short second.
Penemue was a woman who was characterized as someone who was very dedicated to her work. Therefore, he found it rather curious that even she did not know about the arrival of this so-called inspector.
Soon Matsuda and Motohama arrived to cut off this deductive train of thought.
The three teachers separated from Issei when they were assigned a completely different position for obvious reasons.
Issei stopped in the middle of the whole crowd of women next to Matsuda and Motohama. Gasper didn't take long to join him.
The 4 assembled men looked up as they saw Rias' father standing in front of the microphone.
At that very instant, Issei knew something strange was going on.
After all, Sirzechs was the headmaster of the Academy, while Zeoticos could be considered the owner of said establishment.
Not that that fact was strange, what really caught Issei's attention was that this man had gone to the trouble of attending something of such a lowly status for the Demons.
"As the owner of the Academy, I am pleased to say that we will have a very qualified new inspector in our midst for the remainder of this week." Rias' father stated with his typical smile, causing some murmurs to begin to spread among the female students.
"This man is connected to a lot of really important social circles and families, so I hope and pray that you girls don't create any problems for him during his short stay at Kuoh Academy." Zeoticos cleared his throat, allowing time for those words to sink in for both teachers and students.
"All of this being cleared up, I would like to introduce Inspector Lucius Almighty."
Various cheers began to be heard throughout the gymnasium as a very muscular man over six feet tall took the stage, giving various greetings of thanks that were especially directed towards the female students.
"Lucius Almighty? That guy I've seen somewhere before and I'm sure he didn't have that name..." Thought the brown-haired man with a raised eyebrow as he continued to clap.
Lucius stepped up to the microphone and cleared his throat a bit before he began to speak.
"As you already know, my name is Lucius. I will be here for a couple of days to inspect all the buildings and..."
The man continued speaking, but Issei didn't seem to hear him anymore.
After all, that voice had made him remember who that man was.
He could never forget such a pedantic tone that characterized the God of Thunder.
"What the hell is Thor doing at the Academy?" The brown-haired man wondered with much confusion.
"I didn't know that even the Gods used pseudonyms. Seems completely ridiculous to me." Tiamat commented under her breath with a roll of her eyes.
"That's it, I hope we get along." The now recognized with his true identity finished his speech, receiving various applause from the crowd.
On this occasion, Issei did not applaud. All he did was divert his gaze to a certain person.
When he saw Rossweisse did not seem at all happy in the presence of the God, he knew perfectly well that this guy was directly involved with what was bothering her.
And indeed, that bad feeling was only increasing.
A few hours later...
"As we are nearing the end of the cycle and we did not have many swimming tests because of the very late insertion of the discipline, we will do a little test on your ability tests." Everyone was listening intently to Professor Rossweisse who was in her swimsuit while reading from a notebook.
But, if you focused more on all the students, you could see that Issei was looking at her in a much deeper way than the others. As if he was trying to find the answer to something that is bothering him quite a bit.
"I don't want to be too demanding for the short time we have been together, so I would just like for this year to continue with the typical work in the pool that we had been doing until now. The only thing I ask of you now is that you participate in even 70% of the following activities..." Rossweisse continued to explain, but Issei no longer seemed to hear her.
The brown-haired man closed his eyes as he rested his knees under his chin.
Apparently, he had already made up his mind.
In the next few minutes, everyone had jumped into the pool and was enjoying themselves with great joy.
Everyone, with the exception of one person.
Issei remained seated outside the pool with a completely subdued expression as he remained oblivious to all the fun.
"I know you don't like the water, but remember to join in now." Rossweisse sat down next to him, getting Issei to give her a sidelong glance. "If you want you can even get in those clothes. I understand that a lot of girls here might turn into something very annoying because of the physique you're hiding."
"I don't mind that." Was Issei's simple reply, getting Ross to look at him with some astonishment.
"Then why don't you want to swim?" She asked, getting Issei to look at her for a short second.
"I'm not going in the pool until you tell me what's bothering you, and why that guy came to the Academy." Rossweisse was quite surprised at the brown's words, as it had taken him no time at all to realize that something had been bothering him.
Was it that easy to realize it?
"That doesn't matter." Rossweisse returned to her usual expression, though she was a bit more solemnly noted. "You'd better get in the pool before I start giving you negative notes."
"I already said I'm not getting in until you tell me what's going on." Issei insisted again, getting Rossweisse quite annoyed.
"What's going on is none of your business." The Valkyrie got up from the ground with a clearly annoyed expression on her face.
"Don't keep asking questions and do your homework. Otherwise, I won't bother having to give you extra lessons." She culminated, then turned away from Issei with clear annoyance in her steps.
He only deigned to look at her for a few seconds, and then his gaze focused back on the water.
"It doesn't matter if you don't want to tell me. I'll find a way to find out what's going on."
A few hours later...
Issei finished putting up one of the many exterior decorations of the Old Academy Building. Gasper, Kiba and Koneko were also there in some nearby areas, doing their own work.
The others were also helping, only they were in charge of the interior decoration.
Issei was slowly coming down the stairs, adorned by a somewhat conflicted expression.
"What's tormenting you, mate?" Ddraig's voice echoed inside his head, causing Issei to smile ruefully.
"Is it that easy to notice?" He wondered in his internal chatter with Ddraig, listening as the dragon made a tonal gesture to indicate to him that it was. The protagonist lowered his gaze, his face becoming much more serious in the process. "What worries me is that I can't figure out Rossweisse's problem before the Rating Games..."
"Is that? Are you kidding me, brat?" Issei couldn't help but blink a couple of times at his mate and brother's statement.
"You know? Personally I'd love for us to have a showdown against that guy, since his aura is really impressive. But..." Ddraig cleared his throat, then continued, "I can understand that you have another goal much more important than a fight that won't bring you anything, maybe just raise your demonic rank, but nothing more. Remember that the only one who decides in the end is you." Culminated the dragon quite seriously in his final words.
"I understand, but how am I supposed to tell that to Rias?" Issei rubbed his hair as he continued the talk with his dragon brother.
"As I said before, that decision is only up to you."
"But..."
"Listen." Ddraig interrupted him before he continued speaking.
His tone was rather unusual, so Issei was a bit surprised.
"All your life your own parents made you understand where it is you would never get to. Still, inside you the fire kept growing in the hope of breaking all those chains they imposed on you. Now, that fire has grown to the point of breaking free from all kinds of oppression. Do not let that flame be extinguished by your condition as a servant. Especially since you no longer owe that brat anything."
"Ddraig..." Was all Issei could say at such words from the dragon, managing to make the dragon smile.
"This moment requires you to abandon that insecure and indecisive personality that chases you everywhere. This is the time to become a real man, Issei. Because if not now, maybe later it will already be too late." Ddraig finished his speech while giving Issei time to take in all his words.
The dragon couldn't help but smile proudly as his bearer lowered his gaze for a short second, but then lifted his face with unparalleled confidence and conviction.
"That's the way I like it, mate." Ddraig said with an emotion coated nod after witnessing his mate's attitude.
"It's time for you to make your own decisions regardless of what others say or do."
Ddraig's eyes flashed flaming as he pointed to say his last words:
"The only one who can decide one's own fate is oneself."
Issei clenched his fist tightly as he nodded, indicating that he agreed with Ddraig's words.
And as if it was fate, she appeared.
"Good job, Issei. The back is almost complete." Rias arrived and perched next to her servant, admiring the view. "I just wanted to tell you that we're done for the day. Remember to get things settled before you leave."
"I know." Issei nodded with a slight smile as he grabbed the cart covered in festive items.
"Before you go, we'll have a meeting today to decide our strategy against Sairaorg and his servants." Rias raised her voice a bit so that it reached Issei, due to the fact that Issei had already moved a bit away.
"Oh, yes. About the Rating Games..." Issei stopped in his tracks, getting Rias to look at him in confusion.
He turned his face slowly to give her a smile, then dropped the bombshell:
"I don't think I'm going."
Rias went completely static at such a statement. She was finally able to conceive those words as Issei resumed his march to put the materials away in the gym.
"Wait!" Rias stepped forward with a clearly upset look on her face. "What the hell does that mean?! Is that some kind of joke?! Because I'm telling you right now that I don't like this!"
"It's no joke, it's just like you heard." Issei stated without even stopping to look at her. "Anyway I said I'm not sure. Maybe I do go." He bowed his shoulders at the end, indicating that he really didn't care much about what she was saying.
"But what the heck?" Rias couldn't help but grab her hair in slight frustration as Issei disappeared from her sight.
"Is he playing me? I just hope that attitude isn't going to hurt us this Saturday." The redhead commented rather worriedly.
The thought of losing the chance to be able to rise as the most powerful young Demon...
Just thinking about it made her brow furrow like never before.
Issei carried the wheelbarrow calmly in the dusk of the day. His calm expression changed when he heard a small scream along with a sort of thump.
The young man wasted no time and peeked his face over the back wall of the gym to see what was going on.
His skin couldn't help but bristle at what he was seeing.
In front of him was a Thor who had his hand outstretched to the side of Rossweisse's sad face to corner her against the wall.
"Are you saying you don't want me here?" Thor taunted her as he held her hand against the wall tightly to keep her from escaping. "Come on, it'll only be a few days!" The man cooed with a chuckle, getting the Valkyrie to lower her gaze with even more sadness.
"But I was supposed to be quiet until my birthday, and Saturday is still several days away." She said in a low tone, trying not to anger the God.
"It's only a few days, does that change anything?" Thor gave his animated laugh, only to get a completely frightening smile. "Besides, remember that you won't be able to get away from me again when that day comes. So I'm simply being nice so you can start getting used to your new life." The God squeezed Rossweisse's hand very hard, causing her to close her eyes from the unrelenting pain.
"I don't know what the hell is going on here, but you'd better stop now." Thor looked over his shoulder, making out glowing eyes that seemed to be bearing the intentions of killing him right there.
"Issei..." Rossweisse said with clear astonishment in her tone.
"Oh..." The god raised both eyebrows at the sight of the newcomer, then smiled. "What do we have here? A hero?" Thor clearly scoffed.
"I'm no hero, but you'll be a dead man if you don't let her go right now." Issei clarified, sharpening his gaze even more.
Hearing that, Thor's smile disappeared for a few seconds.
They both remained completely static until the God's smile returned to his face.
"I remember you. You are the Sekiryuutei, we had a chance to talk once." The man stated, earning a nod from Issei.
"I remember you too." Issei said, not looking away from the god.
"I also remember you coming with the Dragon Queen Tiamat, and to be honest with you..." Thor widened his smile a bit more as he let go of Rossweisse's hand. "The last thing I want is to get in trouble with her for treating her protégé like a punching bag."
"Yeah, she's a little scary sometimes, especially when she's angry." Issei stated with a sideways grin as he watched Thor chuckle.
"Alright, alright. I'll be going..." Thor gave Issei a small pat on the shoulder, and just then the God's eyes flashed with imminent danger.
"But you won't be able to keep me away for much longer. Such are the Laws of Asgard." He concluded, then disappeared through a celestial magic circle.
"What the hell is wrong with this guy? He already gave me a bad feeling since that first time I saw him..." Issei said to himself without noticing how a Rossweisse was looking at him with a very serious expression.
"Issei, I thank you for helping me. But don't ever do something so reckless again. Threatening a god as important as Thor could mean the start of a war with Asgard." The Valkyrie clarified, getting Issei's full attention.
"Why was he doing this to you? What does that ceremony have to do with your birthday?" Issei asked all the questions, making it quite clear that he hadn't taken Rossweisse's words to heart, something that seemed to make her quite angry.
"I already told you to stay out of all this!" She pushed him away somewhat roughly in order to get away from him.
"But, I just want to help..." Issei commented as he reached out his hand in vain to reach for the Valkyrie.
"You can't." She stopped, only to look at Issei with a very sad look on her face. "Please understand. I'm only taking you away from all this for your own good. I would never forgive myself if something happens to you because of me."
Those were her last words before disappearing through a magic circle, leaving an Issei standing there with words in his mouth.
Still, the clarity of his mind and his target could not be taken down so easily.
In fact, there was nothing and no one that could stop him now.
Later, at the Hyoudou Residence...
Issei was stroking the hair of Tiamat and Ophis, who were curled up on top of him while resting their faces on his bare chest.
His gaze seemed somewhat serious as he continued his caresses, as he had yet to fall asleep like the two of them.
"Are you sure you called him, mate?" Ddraig's voice echoed inside his head, getting Issei to nod slightly.
"Since I have so short a time for Rossweisse to decide to speak on her own, I thought taking a plan B wouldn't be a bad idea. Since that old man is always busy, the best I could do was to call him to have a meeting this Friday." Issei explained, then lowered his gaze with some suspicion. "Come to think of it, he sounded a lot more rushed and hectic than usual, in fact, he practically cut me off before I could ask him any questions."
"I get the feeling this has something to do with that such a ceremony." Ddraig stated, receiving a nod from Issei.
"I was thinking the same thing. Apparently, it's something really important for Asgard if they're all that upset." Issei commented, then putting a hand to his chin. "By the way, you wouldn't happen to know anything?"
"The fact that you think I was involved with ridiculous rituals of lesser beings when I was still alive offends me." Ddraig clarified in a relaxed tone.
"I should have guessed..." Issei thought with a nervous bead of sweat.
Just then, Ophis brought Issei's hand over his head unconsciously. That action brought the smile back on her face, and, consequently, that adorable gesture was accompanied by a smile from Issei.
The protagonist rubbed the Goddess' hair, managing to make her give a small sigh of relief as she leaned even more against his chest.
"Sleep well, Goddess of Infinite Appetite."
END OF CHAPTER!
I hope you enjoyed this!
As you could see, the first signs of radical changes from the original work are already appearing. All of this will culminate in the line between this story and the cannon being completely separated from now on.
And yes, this arc will bring one of the most shocking battles and resolutions yet. Or at least, that's how I see it.
I just hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it, since from here on I feel like the written chapters brought quite a lot of emotions.
And as I always say...
Thank you very much for reading!
