Chapter 23

A morning like no other, with the normal traffic in the streets. The usual smell of morning coffee being sold in the coffee shops. The joy and normality of just another day in the life of everyone. Heroes took care of everyone's safety. Only a fool villain would dare to attack in the middle of the city at the sight of the Law and Justice that the Heroes bring. Only a buffoon would dare to do such a thing. Heroes would protect them from any danger. Well, that was what everybody thought. That was the consensus of everyone thinking at this point. That no matter what horrible villain arrived, a hero would always be there to take him out.

Nothing could change that, no matter what. For all the people in the world, that was a universal truth. So smiling and feeling confident about another day. Everyone went their own way until in every single tv or giant screen across the country. Terrible news appeared.

There, just in the middle of a busy street, on the giant screen where everyone could see the horrible view of a destroyed mountain. A news reporter held a grim look on her face. The words couldn't come out. A few tears were visible, too. What could have caused such a reaction to the news anchor? Everyone stared at the screen with worried faces as they watched the Hero Network.

"Here at the Hero Network, we are sorry to announce the dead of Pro-Hero Yoroi Musha, Wash and 32 more pro-heroes."

Everyone stopped. Every single soul around the country held their breath at the news. A silence emerged. A ghostly shadow covered the sun and soon the entire country.

"Reports said that yesterday, around 10:50 pm. A group of pro-heroes, led by Endeavor, organised a raid into a secret facility near Mount Kaikoma. From what our sources know, both Mirko and Edgeshot were being held captive there, yet it ended up being an ambush. A battle emerged between Endeavor and many other high-profile pro-heroes against a group of villains called, The Primordials. Nothing it's known about said group, only that they were six members with incredible power. During the battle, Yoroi Musha and Wash lost their lives. As well as 32 heroes who did everything they could to stop the villains. Ryukyu suffered grievous wounds, and she is currently fighting for her life."

The sunny day twisted itself into a somber one. The sky was gloomy, and the wind felt cold in the skin of the civilian. Old and new. Young and old. Hero and Villain. They could all feel dread at the sound of the dead. As the Hero Network listed the names of the fallen in a lugubrious style. Slowly the bright day became a rainy one.

"The battle ended when a member of the villain group, The Primordials. Used an attack that destroyed a part of Mount Kaikoma. The radius of the explosion was of 10 kilometers, causing strong winds and earthquakes around the cities of Nagasaka, Kobuchizawa, Fujimi and Takato. Adding a tool of 1089 civilians who lost their lives in the incident. First responders are on the lookout for more wounded amid the rubles. We don't know how many more are dead or missing. We'll keep you informed."

Down on the street, people were running from one place to the next. Some of them calling to families living nearby. Others were simply running and doing whatever it was necessary to reach that place. But a question prevails, and it was why are they only hearing about such a thing now? Why they kept it secret for hours? Do they know how important it is for the public to know about such a horrendous event? Especially those who had families there?

Sadly, the news didn't end there.

"The Department of Police and the Hero Public Safety Commission will make a statement in the upcoming hours regarding the activity of the Pro-heroes agencies."

And with those words, Japan and the people who trusted the heroes with their lives. Started the day with the cry of many who lost a dear one that night.

During the next hours, they dedicated every single program to what took place there. Talking about what happened in the Battle of Kaikoma, and what led to such catastrophe. The whole idea of something like this happening was rather hard to believe, yet it did. How?

First, some experts thought that the fact, a pro hero could move such an amount of resources notifying no one, was worrisome. That amount of power and control over others was scary. It also allowed people to know how both the Department of Police and Hero Public Safety Commission worked. It was clear, both organizations weren't working as one. They seemed to compete about who was truly the one protecting the people. Some said that the Department of Police had no actual value anymore, while others said it did. Others had the idea that the Hero Public Safety Commission answered to no one but themselves. And that they allowed heroes to do what they pleased.

But when it came down to explaining what happened, the representative of the HPSC(Hero Public Safety Commission)told the public that they did not know of such activity. The HPSCwas clueless about such a movement of heroes. What came next was a reaction like no other. For the public, it showed that neither the Department of Police nor the HPSC controlled the hero agencies. They were supposed to be the limit, the ones who control heroes from going too far. Yet they allowed this to happen.

Another side tried to defend the heroes. Telling how much responsibility they already had. And sometimes, heroes needed to be above the law. Since, after all, villains don't care about rules. Heroes had to act according to their judgment.

The news of the incident brought to light too many things rotten in the system, but it also led to a movement slowly rising across the world. Some were losing hope in the heroes, others thought they needed more regulations and laws, and others could not believe how people were turning against the heroes who made the world a better place. And slowly, a division emerged around the globe.

Many types of incidents, like the one in Japan made it to the media. All over the world, had similar cases in which heroes would act without cause, where heroes would act behind the backs of the organization responsible for them. Times of vigilantes were long behind, so they had no excuse to act like that, some of the old lawmakers said.

For days the topic never left, and everyone wanted to know more. They deserved answers.

But one question remained as the most important one. Who are The Primordials? And what do they want? Where they came from?

Many questions were still left in the dark, but something was clear. They now catalogued the Primordials S-S Rank villain organization. The amount of power and destruction they held was too much for a regular band of nameless thugs. The fact they killed so many pro-heroes and could destroy a mountain causing 8.0 earthquakes, makes them so dangerous. Adding the horrible fact that only six villains did all of that only supported the idea of them being something else.

No names and no visuals yet. Only what the survivors told the media and detectives of what they looked like. A mystery, without a doubt.

But meanwhile, the world was tearing each other apart about the ramifications of the heroes and the public. At the Health Center, Hawks could only stare with a numb expression at the scene before him. The tubes going inside of her body. The heavy breathing and the machines pumping blood inside his friend made Hawks feel sick. Ryukyu was lucky to be alive. Very luck. Not like many of the heroes who died that day. Their bodies were still missing, just like the hundreds of civilians around the cities near the crater left behind by the giant meteor. Yet amid all that, Hawks' mind focused on one thing.

The power of the Primordials and the strange pictures in those buildings.

What were those things? Who was that strange girl? What it all means? Hawke thought deeply.

He saw those pictures from the caves or buildings, whatever they were. At first, Hawke would admit he couldn't understand it. Never a big fan of history or things like that. But taking his time, he noticed how that strange girl from the paintings looked a lot like the girl who won the Sports Festival. They were similar in every way. And he was not the only one connecting the dots. Some thought the same. But there was something else going on. Hawke thought about the whole incident. From the supposed breakthrough in their investigation. To the kidnapping of Mirko and Edgeshot. Something bigger was going on out there. Hawke felt shivers at the notion of that.

"What could it all mean?"

Hawks sighed, feeling a headache coming.

"Hawks?! It's that you? Thank God, I finally found you!" Hawke turned around and saw Mt. Lady walking in his direction.

She has seen better days. Scratches around her body, a dislocated shoulder, and burned leg. But Mt. Lady would get better, slowly, but she would be fine. However, Hawks knew by looking at the blond-haired woman that she was dealing with many problems. So he greeted her with a smile. A tiny one.

"Yu, how are you feeling?" Hawks asked.

"Better than yesterday. However, my injuries aren't my primary concern right now," she said.

Mt. Lady glanced at the window where she could see a patient in a bed. It was Ryukyu. She gasped. "Ryu! It's she alright?"

Hawks nodded, although his face betrayed him. "She will survive… but her hero days are over."

"What do you mean?" Mt. Lady asked with an almost desperate tone in her voice.

"The only reason she is alive, it's because of her dragon form. It reduced the damage inside of her, but not by much. Ryukyu's stomach, intestines, liver, and all of that... they were not in good shape. It was a miracle she survived honestly. From what the doctors told me, Ryukyu would not be able to eat solids for a year and will have to use a wheelchair for life. So, you know... Ryukyu hero days are done."

Mt. Lady sobbed at the state of her friend. Not believing what was happening. She, like many, was still having a hard time coming to terms with what had taken place a few nights before. But it was too much to think about. Mt. Lady would sometimes break down in the middle of the night. Those beasts, the monsters she fought. What were they? She didn't know. But her resolution to be a hero diminished that day.

"What about, Kamui?" Hawks asked her.

"He is fine… as fine as he can be. Kamui took Death Arms' death, harder than the rest of us," Mt. Lady said with a cracked voice.

"He blames himself for it. Like many others who came back."

"Survivor guilt," Hawks only responded.

They remained silent for a few minutes, not having the strength to say anything. The smell of the hospital, and the sound of the machines made sure Ryukyu's health didn't decline. All of it made for a horrible scene.

"How are Mirko and Edgeshot?" Mt. Lady asked quietly.

"I don't know… I haven't seen them since they brought them back here. They are still interrogating them, but from what Best Jeanist told me. They seem to improve since their arrival here. Edgeshot said that he doesn't remember everything they did to him. Torture and whatnot. But Mirko, well, she suffered more than him from what he said. I think they… rape her."

Mt. Lady's tears felt down as she tried hard to keep herself from crying again. But it was a hard thing to do.

"Yet she is smiling. That's what Best Jeanist said, Mirko is still fighting," Hawks somber looked didn't disappear, but a soft smiled showed upon his face.

"I'm glad, she is a fighter. Hopefully, I could see her soon."

"Yeah, me too. And I think Ryukyu would like to see her as well."

Again, they were silent, only standing there feeling as if the day's priors were finally catching up with them. Hawk's body was sore. His wounds were not as bad as some of the rest. But he could feel the tension in his muscles. A lingering pain on his back. He groaned silently.

"Hawks, what about Endeavor? What will happen to him?"

"I don't know… with everything going on right now. I do not know what will happen. Some are saying he was at fault for the whole thing, while others are defending him. Truly, I can't be sure of what to think. Sure, Endeavor moved the strings for the operation, but it was all of us who agreed to take part in the raid. That's the truth. He was not at fault with this. I don't think we could have prepared for something like this."

"Surely they will see it that way, right?" Mt. Lady said with uncertainty.

"Like I say, it's hard to say what will happen. Right now the Department of Police, HPSC and the Government are debating what should they do. Maybe they are pointing the fingers at each other like always. You know how long it will take for them to agree on something. We can only wait."

"Waiting for something it's the worst," she said.

"It is."

Across the country, a whole new debate was surging, and Hawks knew it would be only a matter of time before they forced them to say something. An apology, or a statement. Hawks dread how the public would react to their words. Would they blame them for everything? For him, the future was uncertain.

"Hawks, there is something I wanted to ask you. During the battle against the Primordials. Didn't you feel strange? As if something kept on watching us?" Mt. Lady asked.

Hawks frowned, but he remembered the eerie feeling of being watched.

"I remember it."

"What do you think it was?"

"I honestly can't tell. But whatever it was, I hope I don't feel it again."

Hawk said as he stared at Ryukyu, hoping things won't get worse. However, what was wishful thinking, since far away the perpetrators of The Battle of Kaikoma were only just beginning.

Staring herself at the mirror, the outstanding leader of Ainz Ooal Gown, could shake the feeling of embarrassment. There she was, with the most cliche evil costume she could think of. Thinking about why she was doing this.

"Pandoras, is this necessary? Don't you think we are going a little overboard? I think we should just lower ourselves this time," Galadriel as she looked at the chains around her costume.

"Mein lady, it would increase the act at least a hundred times!"

"It's that so? But don't you think this costume it's a bit too much?"

"Nein! Lady Albedo and lady Shalltear chose the best one!"

"Ah, of course, those two were behind this... but, well, it's amazing. It's nothing that I thought they would use."

Galadriel sighed, looking at her outfit. Not really a bad one. It was the type of costume, she'll see on a sort of fantasy game of old. One that would bring nightmares to everyone who sees it. "But I look rather cool."

"And mysterious, my lady, don't forget that!" Pandora's Actor said.

They could consider Galadriel's outfit to be rather peculiar. It was the representation of a big evil being held down by chains, a cloak surrounding her body, a mask that was more of a helmet, keeping her face locked behind iron. Blocking any chance of her watching the light of the sun. A condemned soul lingering forever. Truly, Galadriel was stunned by how amazing she looked. A true villainous outfit. Albedo, Shalltear and Pandora's Actor were truly amazing when they put their mind to it. Galadriel almost expected an outfit that would show more skin than anything, but no, this was true, a costume of the leader of the Primordials.

And, of course, she couldn't have white hair with golden eyes. So now she looked like this.

"A perfect outfit for a perfect villain!" Pandora's Actor declared with pride.

"Well, if you say so. Now, please, should we go? I believe we should practice the… thing."

"Mm, of course! Now, remember, my lady, this is a practice. My fellow guardians want to make sure they are doing a good job portraying their villains' characters."

"I understand that, but there was no need to build a secret evil base."

"Nonsense, my lady! We can't afford mistakes! So please, get yourself in the character of an evil being!"

"But I am an evil being already! Remember?! Demon Empress, hello? In fact, every one of us is an evil entity already! We don't need to pretend to be bad people! We already are!"

"It's not the same!"

"How can it not be the same?!" Galadriel asked, bewildered. "We are evil beings, portraying evil villains? What?"

"We are acting! Our characters differ from ourselves! The Primordials' goal is to resurrect the Ancient One and cleanse the world of the fake seed! Each one of us is going to act a character with their one name."

"So, we are roleplaying?"

"It's acting!"

"It's not the same?"

"Of course, it's not! Acting requires skill and love!"

"But, I don't see the point of acting, right now."

"It's practising, my lady! We must flourish from our shells and become the great butterfly with are!… Also many of them are terrible at it."

Galadriel would not argue anymore with Pandora's Actor, so she just sighed and went with it. "Alright, we are acting. Now, let's go."

Galadriel then saw the face. Well, not that she could see Pandora's Actor's expression but there was something she recognized immediately. Galadriel couldn't hold her laughter back as she saw her creation puffing as he stared at her with an annoyed look on his face.

"My dear, don't look at me like that," Galadriel said with a smile.

"I will try, my dear lady," he huffed.

"Let's go."

Galadriel kissed Pandora's Actor cheeks just to make him feel better. "Sorry, dear. I know how important acting and all of this is. I will give my best."

Pandora's Actor's demeanour changed as he enjoys the show of affection from his creator. "I know, my lady."

Galadriel walked to the door where she could see now all the guardians sitting around a table with the Ainz Ooal Gown symbol. She would not lie, but they all looked badass. "Alright, I was wrong. This looks very cool." Galadriel whispered.

Everyone was wearing the same outfit they used a few days ago. And from what Galadriel could see, they seemed excited to start the additional step to bring chaos to the world. That's why Galadriel took their commitment seriously and went on with the roleplaying of her villain character. Besides, she could have fun with all of that. Galadriel had no reason to shy away from acting all mighty. She already does. So with a smirk, she sat down on her chair.

Well, we can use the practices for something. I mean, like, I kind of enjoy the whole thing! It's like the evil version of the Justice League or something! Oh, no, I think I will become edgy again. But you know what? Screw it! I will become the edgiest villain that this world has ever seen! Let's enjoy ourselves, shall we?! Galadriel thought as she let her aura surround her. Making the guardians, who were ready to perform the meeting scene, feel more enthusiastic.

"Welcome, my fellows Primordials. It seems we have many things to do."

Galadriel and the rest would become the greatest group of actors that the world has ever seen.
