Chapter 29

The news of what happened during the camp brought down the already damaged image of the Pro-Heroes. The fact the villains had the gall to attack students and teachers directly, was without a doubt an announcement of sorts, to all heroes around Japan and the world, since out of the 41 students, 15 were in critical condition thanks to one villain's poisonous gas. And eleven got many injuries of varying degrees. The team of Pro-Heroes that were in place were injured and two were in life-threatening condition. And one was missing, possibly kidnapped, just like one student. It was not the best news for the heroes.

And while they captured a few villains. The clear downside was that they seemed to be just part of the cannon fodder of whoever planned the attack.

The day was only getting worse, as soon enough. The media berated the institution that supposedly trained the young heroes, and didn't stop, blaming them for everything gone wrong. And one of the gloomiest facts for the many teachers at U.A. was the villains captured one of their brightest students. It was a hit in their pride.

"We took this whole villain revival thing, too lightly. They've already begun their war... the war to destroy our hero society."

Nezu, the principal said in a gloomy voice as he stared at the rest of the teachers, who seemed to be in the same position. Nezu, whose usually calm demeanor shine upon everyone, seemed rather troubled now. But it couldn't be compared to what All Might was feeling at those moments. The number one hero could only look down. Shame, angry, utterly disappointed with himself. It was the same feeling he had many years ago. All over again. A cruel reminder of his failures, and now they come back.

Midnight saw the look of her colleagues and sighed.

"Even if we'd taken in more seriously, could have we prevented these relentless sudden attacks? Most organized crime has been eliminated since the rise of All Might. So, all that's left is the best of the worst."

Midnight said with a tired voice, as a string of guilt came over her. The memories of the white-haired girl came to her, and she felt anguish, only fearing for the worst. What would the villains do to her? What could they possibly want? They know she is the daughter of one of the most riches families in the world. They most want something from them. But what could it be? She wondered.

"Basically, we got too complacent in this peaceful era... otherwise, there'd be no need for preparations when we realized what was happening," Present Mic said.

All Might was seething in anger, as he was about to burst. He blamed himself. While he was relaxing in the bath, his students were fighting for their life away from him. All Might knew how it would look like, but he truly feels as he was responsible for everything going wrong currently. The villain's attacks, since the beginning of the year. They wanted him, and the kids just ended up becoming victims. Nezu could almost read the mind of the number one hero mind. And slowly he spoke, trying to appease his mind.

"It's not your fault, Yoshinori, don't blame yourself for this."

"But...!"

"I reckon we can't pretend to be undaunted no longer... like how we went and held the sport festival just after that other attack. We... I have failed not only to the principals of U. A but also to our students and the future generations. And now we not only got ambushed by the villains, but they have kidnapped one of our most precious students. This is one serious failure for U.A."

The teachers only nodded slowly. "And it wasn't just miss Nazarick who they took away. But also, the public image of the heroes. And the media is surely having a field day with this."

The newspaper was surely dismantling the hero image with vengeance, and not only the U. A. but every single Pro-Hero agency. The topic of discussion that was already going on, since long before what took place, was again returning. And more people began talking about the topic. Few wanted to speak off and was about if heroes were even a good thing to begin with. The debates, and the many people against or in favor of pro-heroes, were skyrocketing to new heights. As some believe, it was time to get rid of the Pro-hero cult-like lifestyle and proceed to a more stable environment in which, revolves around pro-heroes pushing aside their mask and persona in order to serve in the law enforcement like any other individual, with or without Quirk. The idea of superheroes was a double-edged sword, and many argue that sometimes fame could get to their heads, and give them a self-righteous look in life, making them feel as if they were above the rest, and in some cases even above the law and government. And perhaps it was true since many Pro-Heroes truly believe they knew best. Or in some cases. They would act with greed in some instances.

It also leads to a type of environment that breeds incompetence and too much care for one self-image.

And of course. The other side argues that it was because of heroes that the world has been living in a long peace and prosperity. That having agents capable of reacting outside the law was a good thing. And it wasn't as if pro-heroes could do anything they wanted. They had their own rules and regulations. They follow a code. And the image of a hero could inspire a new generation of young children to try to follow their heroes, creating more people willing to fight for what was right and good in the world.

Each side of the table had its points, without a doubt. Yet, none realized that it wasn't really up to them anymore. They were all getting manipulated in the shadows. They just didn't know it.

"It's truly quite the sight," Midnight said, with a sigh.

"Yeah, they have been pointing out how, miss Nazarick's kidnapping was a target directly to all of us. There is no denying that Galadriel Nazarick is one of the most popular students in Japan, and us losing her to villains really puts us in a bad spot. We have lost the trust of a lot of people," Nezu said.

"Speaking of loss of trust, this seems like the right time to bring something up... it's absolutely clear at this point we have a mole!"

Present Mic said, and everyone felt a sudden change in the air.

"Only we teachers and the Pussycats knew about the training location, so is incredibly suspicious how suddenly, the villains knew where our students were! But we have to consider others suspects too! If a student used the GPS function on their phone, then they could be found!"

"Cut it out, Mic, there is no need to say things like that," Midnight said.

"Like hell I will! We have to take care of this, here and now! Or a new attack could happen to our students!"

"Can you even cough a up a proof that you're in the clear? We can't even declare that one of us ain't the traitor!" Snipe said, angrily.

"Once we start suspecting each other and jumping at shadows. We'll destroy ourselves from inside out. If we're searching for a mole. We shouldn't do it in panic."

"That's right, Mic. We can't let ourselves to fall into panic. Not right now. And for what it's worth, I happen to trust all of you. That said, I have no clear way to prove my innocence. But, regardless, the task at hand is to ensure the student's safety. And in lights of this potential mole. There's something I've been considering for a while now."

Nezu was about to speak about his plan, but before anyone could say anything, someone knocked on the door. And they all felt something in the door. It was a strange type of pressure, very dark and powerful. The pro-heroes there felt vulnerable for a few seconds before it disappeared. Then a small squeaky voice came from outside, and for how it sounds, it was someone terrified.

"Principal Nezu...! Miss Nazarick's parents are here! They want to speak with you... now!"

Everyone in the room felt small as they heard those words. Yet, they knew it was meant to happen soon. It was not going to be pretty, but both Nezu and All Might sighed and nodded to each other. They would take the blame for everything. It was only logical, after all. Their incompetence has led to the capture of a young student, and the parents of said student wanted answers, and perhaps, more.

"Let them in," Nezu said.

The moment the door opened, all the teachers saw an elderly man with quite the stern look on his face, clenching his arms. Nezu and All Might knew that man was Galadriel's father. And they thought that the woman with golden hair was Galadriel's mother. But it seems they were wrong. Because the woman next to that man clearly looked like Galadriel's mother. It was clear to any one of them that, currently. The most gorgeous woman they have ever seen was standing before them.

Long dark hair, a perfect face, flawless in every way. And a body crafted by God himself. But the eyes spoke ill to all of them. There were also two wings on her hips and golden eyes in a yellowish tone. They saw the grief on the woman's face.

"Where is my daughter?!"

The woman screamed as they saw how the ground seemed to break under her pressure. They didn't know what type of Quirk she had. But it seems it was quite powerful.

"Mrs. Nazarick, please let us explain!"

Nezu spoke before being interrupted once more by the wails of the grieving mother.

"Explain?! Please explain to me, how did those villains managed to capture my baby when she was supposed to be protected by her teachers!"

The black-haired woman screamed as she hit the wall with her fits, leaving a hole in it. Whoa, she is strong! All Might thought a bit frightened. But he knew that soon he would have to face the consequences of his inactions. And while he was in his weak form, he stood up. And slowly changed back to his number one hero form, much to the surprise of the woman. Or so he thought, as the woman's eyes seemed to glee in a mocking tone.

"Mrs. Nazarick... I am All Might... and please allow me to ask for your forgiveness!"

All Might bowed deeply, practically on his knees. As the woman stared down at him.

"Toshinori..." Nezu whispered.

"I should have been with them...! I should have saved them! It's my fault this has happened!"

All Might pleaded, as the woman only keep on staring down at him.

"I don't want your apology... I want my daughter. My beloved daughter back! I want...!"

"Now there, easy now, Albedo."

Everyone then saw a tall man entering the room. The gray hair and bear showed exactly who he was.

"But, dear!" Albedo said, dramatically, with a hissing tone.

"Screaming and pointing the finger won't let us rescue our child... no matter how much we try."

"Mr. Nazarick... is a pleasure to see you again. Although, I would have love to see you in other circumstances," Nezu said.

Mr. Nazarick or Sebas nodded at him. Albedo and Sebas had to make sure to act accordingly. Or their plans could fail. That's why they have rehearsal many times, their reactions, and how Albedo would act. Albedo was thrilled to do something out there. Outside of Nazarick. And while she had to pretend to be Seba's wife. It had to be done. At least, it was him, the one she would have to call dear.

"Likewise. But first. I ask for understanding to my wife's worries, it's been hard on us," Sebas said softly.

"Not at all, Mr. Nazarick. We understand how hard can it be for a mother. And is our fault to begin with. Our failures as a school brought pain to your family. Please, in the name of U.A. forgive us."

Nezu said while bowing deeply. And soon enough, the teachers there did the same. It was the only right thing they could do.

"Enough of this! Where is our daughter?!" Albedo said one more time, sounding incredibly desperate, and emotional. She wanted to make sure her acting skills were above the rest. No one would say that the overseer of the guardians lacks motivation or effort.

"Relax, my dear wife. It's not time to despair."

"But...!"

"Mrs. Nazarick, please, let us tell you that the police department is doing everything in their power to make sure to save your daughter. Do not despair. I swear to you that we will find her!"

All Might said with seriousness, as he stared directly at Sebas.

"I know you will," Sebas said, but soon enough. Albedo dramatically sighed, pretending to faint. And Midnight saw it right away. So, she brought her chair and slowly guided the anguished mother down.

"Easy there, easy, everything is going to be fine," Midnight said with a concerned tone. It was not the first time she had to deal with a tormented mother. And won't be the last. But she would lie if she says that, it gets easier. This poor woman looks ready to pass out. She must truly love her child. Midnight thought sadly.

"When we heard about the attack, we came here as fast as we could. But it seems that not only my daughter was a victim of these villains. A few teachers and students were injured too, right?" Sebas asked.

"The students would recover with time, yes... but the pro-hero team, the Wild, Wild Pussycats, were there. And two of their members suffered serious injuries while fighting Regina, the Red Killer."

Nezu said, still remembering the gruesome details of what that red-haired villain did to poor Mandalay and Pixie-Bob. It was so bad that Regina ended up going up in rank after the incident. Aizawa, who was in not such a terrible shape, told them. How, that girl seemed to be just playing around with them, enjoying her time hurting them. The girl was a sadist. And a powerful one at that. Since Regina could take four pro-heroes at once with little difficulty. They raised Regina's rank to an S-Rank. Also, it seemed as if she was high in the Villain league, making it even harder for them to track her down.

"I see... are they in danger?" Sebas asked. "We can help in anything?"

The teachers looked at each other, and even Nezu looked gloomy at the thought of the state of his friends.

"Nazarick enterprise has one of the best medical research centers in the world. And we are currently testing new medicine and treatments. If there is anything we can do to help, we will."

"Thank, Mr. Nazarick... it would surely help us," Nezu said. "Our friends are in a delicate state."

Midnight trembled a bit as she reached the reports from yesterday.

"Mandalay suffered a spine injury... Regina wanted to break her in two. And each of her ribs is fragmented... shattered. Her lungs collapsed and... it seems as if Regina was biting her... like she was a sort of dog or something like that. Mandalay's body looked like she was attacked by a pack of wolfs, and a sizeable chunk of her thighs was missing. Regina was... eating her. That's what Aizawa told us."

Midnight replied, still having a hard time reading the reports. Her stomach was not made for it. And she did not want to even think about how poor Mandalay looked like.

"Oh, my...!" Albedo whispered, hiding her amusement behind concern. She was surprised by how Lupusregina acted. It was truly more than they thought she would do. But then again. The red-haired Pleiades maid was enjoying her time as a villain. Oh, Lupusregina seemed to have enjoyed herself quite a lot. Albedo thought with a smile.

"Pixie-Bob is another of the members in a critical condition... Regina has almost killed her. She squeezed her head to the point... to the point," Midnight stuttered, not waiting to speak. But had to find the strength to do it.

"Ryuko, skull fractured, and... Regina pulled her eyes out... and ate them."

Sebas and Albedo were now incredible, amazed by Lupusregina's action. Eh, alright that was quite a lot, Lupusregina. Both of them thought. Albedo was disgusted by how Lupusregina ate parts of a lowly human, while Sebas was worried about the damages left behind by her. One of their objectives was to bring the heroes to their side with the promise of healing their injuries, among many other things. Nazarick enterprise had to reach every corner of the world. And having a medical research center was one way to do it. And well, they were also experimenting with their potions and many other things. They need subjects to test them out.

But still, it seems as if Lupusregina really did a number on them. Perhaps, too much.

"That's very gruesome," Sebas said.

"They are alive... but barely. And the other students who got hurt are still recovering. It's going to take a while for them."

"We understand."

All Might was about to speak, but then a cellphone rang. He felt the glares of the woman with dark hair, but had to excuse himself out. However, of all the things he expected to hear. The voice of one of his friends brought a new sense of hope to him.

"Toshinori... we may have pinpointed the league of villains' hideout!"

"What?"

"About two weeks ago, one of my men was out canvassing for information. One witness saw a man with patchwork face enter a building... a building that didn't have any tenants. We searched the database for convicted criminals around 20 years of age, but none fit the profile. When we contacted the building owner. We learned that there's a bar inside. A hidden one, though, like a shelter of sorts. It didn't seem connected to the investigation at the time. So, we moved on. But now... the description matches one of the villains who kidnapped your student!"

All Might was breathing hard, and his body seemed to shake tremendously.

"Give the situation. We're going to raid the place as soon as we've got enough evidence... and let me tell you something. We have received anonymous leads to that place, too. It's quite strange."

"Anonymous leads? Someone is giving information out to the police department?"

"Yeah... it seems the Villain League has a mole... or someone wants us to find that place. Regardless, we are going in soon. I want you to be part of our team!"

"I'll be there... I'll make sure to tell those villains that I am here... to fight back!"

All Might would not fail, not anymore. But first, he must tell the parents about the locations of the people who may have their daughter. However, he didn't know that. They already knew.

Hawks stared smiling at Ryukyu, who was awake and speaking, well, barely.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Hawks asked.

"Better... just tired and bored," Ryukyu's voice was almost a whisper, and hard to understand, since the machines keeping her alive and feeding her were loud. Yet, Hawks could see the smile of his friend.

"Don't worry about it. Soon enough, you'll be better. And then we can leave this place."

Ryukyu nodded softly, but a sad smile appeared on her face.

"They told me about my state. They don't believe I'll make it back... you know? To be a hero."

Hawks sighed at the word hero. He truly wants to stop hearing it, especially now. Since things were becoming more difficult for him to distinguish. Yet, he still believed it was possible for him to be a great hero. But every time he thought about fighting crime. The memories of what took place that night hunted him. The cruel reality was that the world was bigger than him. That they were people stronger than him out there, ready to fight. It was humbling and horrifying. But he had to believe otherwise; he has nothing.

"You're strong, Ryukyu. Don't let it push you down."

Ryukyu laughed, albeit painfully.

"It's okay... Keigo... It's okay. I think I'll be fine... you know."

"It's not fine... we can't lose another great hero," Hawks whispered, earning a chuckle from her.

"How is Mirko?" Ryukyu asked, changing the topic.

"She is recovering nicely. You know how she is. Even though she suffered a lot. Mirko is ready to jump out to the streets and kick some villain's ass. She truly wants her revenge."

Ryukyu smiled. "Good, good. Tell her to kick some for me."

"You can tell her yourselves; you know? I am not your pigeon," Hawke smiled.

They kept quiet for a bit, and the only noise in the room was the many machines and tubes keeping Ryukyu alive. Yet, there was something wrong, off about it all. It was something that he has been thinking of lately. An image of sorts. Yet, he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

"Hawks?" Ryukyu asked as she was able to see the troubled face of the number two hero.

"Um, sorry... I was lost in thought, nothing more."

"Ah... you should rest. It's good for you."

Hawks only chuckled. "I'll think about it."

Hawks then suddenly felt something coming at him, and he could only turn back at the door, ready to fight. But what he saw surprised him even more. There, entering the room, a beautiful woman stood, with a gentle smile and small and elegant glasses.

"Miss Ryuko Tatsuma?" The woman asked.

"Uh, yeah... it's me... who are you?" Ryukyu replied with a weak voice.

"My name is Yuri; I came here to represent Nazarick enterprise."

"Nazarick?" Hawks asked, confused.

"Yeah, we are here to see if miss Tatsuma would like to be part of our medical research program?"

Hawks stared at the woman, not knowing how to react. However, it was Ryukyu who was even more confused.

"What's going on?" She asked.

Yuri acted accordingly, and with a sigh, she explained why she was doing it there. "You haven't heard?"

"About Galadriel Nazarick, kidnapping? We have... is all over the news," Hawks said.

"Yes, Mr. Nazarick and Mrs. Nazarick want to provide help in any way they can. Our medical program and our medical facilities are the most advanced in the world. And we take great pride in achieving more than anyone has done. And we are offering a way for wounded pro-heroes to stand up and fight once again."

"That's sound to good to be true," Hawks said.

"It is as good as you heard. We can definitively treat, miss Tatsuma injuries. And provide it, with no cost."

Ryukyu was shocked to hear it. But could it be possible? Achievable? She has already given up her dreams of continuing to be a pro-hero.

"Is true?" Ryukyu asked, and her voice was cracking as the feelings were visible.

"Without a doubt."

"Ryukyu, think about this... you don't know what is going on. Don't you think this is too... good to be true?" Hawks said, not bothering to hide his skepticism.

"But... Hawks... they can heal me," Ryukyu whispered.

Yuri was not happy to be interrupted by the man with chicken wings. So, once more, she stepped forward.

"If you would like, miss Tatsuma. You can contact us anytime you want. We are already giving treatments to Pro-heroes who were critically wounded during the past incidents with the so-called primordial. As well, with two pro-heroes who were attacked by the Red Killer. You could wait for the results if you wish. But, let me tell you. The rate of success of our new medicines is around 99.9%."

Yuri said, with the voice of a top doors man seller. And well, even Hawks couldn't even argue about it. Yet, it all feels off. The Nazarick enterprise was alien to him. And rather, suspicious. But it was just a feeling, and nothing more. Hawks looked at Ryukyu, who was looking at him with desperation, pleading to support her. And he couldn't do anything else, but sigh. Ryukyu whispered thank you and smiled.

"I would like to be part of the... Nazarick medical research program."

"Good choice, miss Tatsuma... you will not regret it."

Yuri smiled, and it was a type of smile that Hawks did not like. This is not normal... everything that is happening. But sadly, for him. It was too late.
