Author's Notes: Hey everyone, sorry it has taken me so to update this story, my muse took a vacation. Trying to see if I can put in an emergency recall to it. As always I own nothing. Will be taking some things from the book. As it seems that the show is divulging from the books not sure how much this will count as spoilers but spoiler warnings for this chapter.
As the feast continued and the wine flowed Sansa found herself in conversation Arianne and Nymeria Sand. They seated themselves on either side of Sansa and Nymeria poured her another cup of wine. Sansa sipped at it cautiously, she had become fond of Dornish wine but she had never drunk to excess and a few cups was all that it took to make her tipsy. She had seen her husband when he was drunk and she did not want to risk blabbing anything out loud.
"So tell me," Arianna said to her; "Are you happy to see your niece again?"
"Of course," Sansa answered honestly; "She was always a joy in King's Landing and she seems to have taken to life here very well."
"Indeed," Nymeria interjected; "She and Trystane seem to have gotten on quite well."
"Yes," Arianna said in agreement; "My brother is quite besotted with her and she seems a clever and sweet girl. She would make a fine queen do you not think?" This last was addressed to Sansa. She for her part was somewhat confused by this question.
"She might," she agreed cautiously; "But her brother is king. And he is to be married to the Lady Margaery Tyrell. Doubtless they shall have children of their own in due time." She noticed a slight look of distaste come across the faces of her two companions. This did not go unnoticed by Arianna, who hastened to smile reassuringly at her.
"You must forgive us. There is a bit of…bad blood between the Tyrells and the Martells, don't let it concern you, it has nothing to do with you Lannisters." Sansa resisted the urge to flinch, she hated to be called a Lannister, even if it was true. To distract herself she went back to her original question.
"I still do not see how she could become queen." Nymeria supplied the answer.
"You see, under Dornish law, the eldest always inherits regardless of whether they are male or female. Not unlike yourself being Lady of Winterfell."
"It is not quite the same thing." She said quietly. Arianna seemed to sense her distress as she rushed to make sympathetic noises.
"Of course it's not, I am so sorry. You must forgive her, Nymeria is given to careless speak. I know what would cheer you up, some really juicy gossip." She giggled and leaned in close to whisper loudly in Sansa's ear.
"I got a letter from my uncle in King's Landing. It seems there has been quite the scandal there. It is not official but it is rumored that the engagement of your sister-in-law, Cersei, has broken her engagement to Loras Tyrell." Sansa was surprised.
"But surely the Tyrells would be gravely offended by such an act. Lord Tywin would never agree to such a thing."
"So you would think and they say that Lord Tywin is indeed furious. Curiously, it sounds as if your father-in-law is furious with your brother-in-law, Jamie Lannister as well. My uncle does not know why but he says that the whole city is abuzz with rumors and gossip." Sansa sat back, not quite sure what to make of it. Then Arianna said something which grabbed Sansa's attention.
"I wonder if your husband will be recalled to King's Landing now that is father seems to be on the outs with his other children?" The mere thought of that horrified Sansa. After all that she had endured in that wretched city she never wanted to see it again for as long as she lived.
"I do not think that is likely," she said hastily; "Even if what you say is true I find it highly unlikely that Lord Tywin will warm enough to my husband to recall him."
"But if your husband was recalled he would go would he not?" Arianna asked, Sansa could only nod in reply. "He is a dutiful sort is he not?" Arianna said; "Just like my brother Quentyn."
"Quentyn?" Sansa said, though when she thought about it she did remember Tyrion mentioning that Prince Doran Martell had another son. Arianna seemed to realize what she had said as she quickly spoke again.
"Oh, did I never mention Quentyn? Yes, he is my other brother. He was born before Trystane and was sent Lord Anders Yronwood as a ward. He is a very dutiful boy, always ready and eager to do whatever pleases Father. Not unlike your own husband and his father according to my uncle, though I think Father is somewhat more appreciative if you do not mind me saying so." Something about the way she spoke made Sansa suspicious.
"Will Quentyn be joining us here at the Water Gardens?" She asked.
"I am afraid not, he has remained with Lord Yronwood, I believe he has a fondness for Gwyneth Yronwood, Lord Yronwood's youngest daughter."
She is lying. Sansa thought. She would not have thought so before but her time in King's Landing had given her a suspicious streak and a willingness to think the worse of everyone. She was not sure if she gave any of this away or not but Nymeria seemed to sense her suspicion as she jumped in to change the subject.
"I heard that when you were attacked by pirates on your way to Dorne you attacked one of them with a dagger." Sansa nodded.
"That is true, though I fear I did not have much success against him." She smiled, a little chagrined at the memory; "Indeed, if Brienne had not been there he would have been the death of me."
"So I heard and my father wrote that he was most impressed by her when she fought Sir Trant. Indeed if he were not so devoted to Ellaria he doubtless would have bedded the lady by now. Who knows, he still might." The two woman laughed as Sansa flushed.
"But in all seriousness," Nymeria continued; "It is not wise to always depend on others for your defense. These are troubled times and ladies cannot always depend on the valor of knights to defend them."
"No, they cannot." Sansa replied, her mind going back to her treatment at the hands of the Kingsguard.
"If you like," Nymeria said, interrupting her thoughts; "I would be happy to show you the proper way to use a dagger." Sansa thought for a moment and then nodded her assent.
Author's Notes: Hey everyone, thanks for being patient with me. School will not be as intense for a while so I will try to get a few more updates sooner. What did you think, I fear if you haven't read the books some parts may not make sense. Till next time please pray for the sick child of a family friend and all others who need prayer. Bye and may Jesus bless you.
