…
Monti was glad he didn't screw it up. "Yes. I promise it's safe. Now come on. I'll guard you the whole way there."
If nothing else, the offer of security was tempting, given the final stand they were in minutes ago.
"Lead the way." Was Kurt's eventual answer.
...
Naofumi's group defended the border admirably for some time. The nervousness was growing in everyone with each minute that passed. Monti's absence was making some fear the worst. Naofumi could simply contact him, but both Raphtalia and himself agreed that it'd be a waste of time. They'd maintained their faith in their son as long as they could. The other children shared that sentiment, but wanted to contact him out of pure worry.
Many of the young knight's allies continued to pester him about pleading the shield hero to go north to save the villagers. One of his companions outright compared sending Monti there to dooming the farmers. At first the young knight kept his faith in the shield hero. Naofumi had saved Lute during the last wave and was doing an even better job in this wave. He felt Naofumi was doing a great job...
But allowing a wave monster into his party? In his family? And then to see Monti's behavior at the start of the wave. It gave the young man pause.
He used Naofumi's skill to speak with him.
"Shield hero?" The young knight called.
"Yes... Ake? What is it?" Naofumi looked to his party menu to see the boy's name.
"...It's just that I'm worried and think we shou-"
"Hey~! It's brother, he's back!" Filo spoke loudly.
Most of those who were discussing the issue felt a rush of guilt at those words, Ake especially. He nearly accused someone very close to the shield hero of something terrible. There would be no place at his side if he did that. At the same time though, it was good news.
Monti traveled at a leisurely pace. Not being allowed to fly and needing to stay close to the group forced him to walk the whole way. He was wondering how the hell Filo pushed the wagon all day.
As he made it to his parents at the edge of the village, they noticed that some of the people were clearly not farmers. Naofumi did a double take when he saw Kurtis. He recognize him on the spot. The two shared a look, but didn't speak yet. Kurt helped the overseer and Mia climb off of Monti's back, having been picked up by Monti when he saw their pace was slowing the whole group down.
One quick head count later had everyone in good spirits as Naofumi announced to everyone.
"11 farmers, including the overseer. That is everyone. That's every single person!"
The idea that this far into a wave and there had not been a casualty was unthinkable. It bolstered everyone's spirits as they strove to maintain this impossible outcome.
"See Monti, I knew you'd do just fine." Raphtalia said.
"...Thanks, mom."
Monti had nearly killed Godiva. He had threatened to kill all the adventurers there. He was more dangerous than he liked. At the same time, he had saved everyone and brought them to safety despite the fact that his mind was less than reliable right now. He felt both more and less confident in himself at the same time. Perhaps he needed to abandon thinking of things in such simple terms?
As Kurtis passed by Naofumi on his way inside, he stopped and faced him.
"It's good to see you in good health, savior... I had hoped for more time after our last meeting before I'd have to speak with you again."
Naofumi studied the man's face, guilt clearly evident.
"And why is that? Why are you even out here?"
Kurtis shifted a little, but eventually grew still. "Moments after you left Opaltown, I quit my job."
That got a reaction out of Naofumi, but he let Kurtis continue.
"I'd like to think that I was a good man at some point, but working for Wagner slowly changed me... I'm an adventurer now. When I felt I've done enough good, I'd like to speak with you again."
Naofumi had a few things he wanted to talk to the man about, but he saw the time. It had been just over two hours since the start of the wave.
"What are those idiots up to!?"
"If you really feel that guilty... there's something good you can do for me right now."
Kurtis jumped at the words.
"Name it, savior."
"My immediate party and I will be leaving to face the wave boss. The wave has not stopped even after two hours... Can you and your party help maintain the town's border?"
"We can try, but realistically, it's a tall order."
Naofumi ignored Kurt and spoke to the whole expanded party. "We just received more adventurers wanting to help and two hours have passed. We'll be switching operations. Teal."
"On it." [Living Wall]!
All at once, the seeds that Teal had planted around the village spawned life, growing tall into trees. Trees that grew so tightly together that they formed walls. In an instant, the village had a wall encircling it in its entirety.
"Teal's plants live for as long as they are prepped. So, they should last for quite some time. Even then, they'd still be somewhat useful as a wall of dead trees. Liviccic, you're in charge."
"Understood. Do you mind adding those new adventures before you leave? For communication purposes."
"...On it."
"We're leaving, but before that, join my party."
"Y-You can't forgive me so fast. I-"
"I'm not. Once you join my party, you can communicate with my whole party over long distances, thanks to my shield. Now shut up and do it!"
"Shield...! Understood." Kurtis was nearly thrown to the ground by that revelation, but stayed upright to earn the man's favor.
"Shield hero or not, he is the savior of the heavenly fowl."
The moment he was registered, Naofumi received a notice.
[A party can't exceed 20 party members at once.]
[Commander Shield unlocked]
[Commander Shield]
+1 Hp
[Ability: Lieutenants] Each member of your party may have a party of their own. Those party members are treated as 'sub-party members'. Sub-party members receive most of the same benefits as full party members.
[The rules will become clear via mastery bonuses once mastered]
Naofumi found that interesting, but he had more important things to do. He switched to the new shield and added Kurtis, which added the rest as sub-members.
Naofumi told Leon to take full form and the others climbed on.
"No fair. Why does Leon get to carry the family? That's my job!"
"We know, Filo, but we need to find the others and looking from above helps." Raphtalia argued.
"Too bad, Filo, looks like I'm more useful. Maybe we'll ditch the cart completely and- Ow!"
Filo dug her shoe into his back.
Naofumi picked her up. "Guys, this is serious. People are in danger and it's important to Monti. Stop messing around."
"..."
The two grew quiet. Filo glanced at her big brother to see him not looking the greatest. Raphtalia was holding him and telling him how proud she was of him. He looked like he hadn't slept in days. The mental exhaustion he must be going through... Filo couldn't imagine. Filo decided to be as serious as she could be, for her brother's sake.
...
In the skies
...
If they weren't desperately looking for the wave boss and other heroes, Naofumi would have to admit he enjoyed flying very much and saw why Raphtalia had Monti give her rides.
As they made it over a small group of hills, they caught sight of it...
A large wooden pirate ship with a large shell on its underside flew through the sky. Several large tentacle-like things came from the shell and rose up to the front of the ship. Several strange birds nearly as big as a person maintained a close proximity to the ship.
As they got closer, they saw Itsuki and another archer launching arrows at the ship from a nearby cliff. The idea looked like it had merit at first, but each time the arrow nearly reached the ship or the strange sea creature beneath it, one of the birds would intercept it and die in its place. Itsuki was using some kind of arrow that caused an explosion on impact. Once again, solid idea. However, the explosion kept him from seeing that the arrow never reached the ship.
Naofumi thought to tell him, but he didn't have the time.
Now above the ship, they saw Motoyasu and Ren with their parties engaging the enemy. Motoyasu fought the tentacles that were apparently heads to the creature, while Ren fought a skeleton pirate captain. Naofumi used [Inspect] to see which one was the wave boss.
[Skull Captain] Lv 49
[Kraken] Lv 50
[Dread Seagull] Lv 35
"The kraken is the highest level, so it's probably the wave boss." Naofumi announced
"No." Monti said, trying to focus.
The family turned to hm.
"What do you mean, Monti?" Raphtalia asked.
"The wave boss is down there..., but the boss hasn't even taken damage yet."
"How do you know that?" Teal asked.
"I don't know... Maybe... Maybe it has something to do with the connection between a wave boss and the lesser wave monsters. I can't really understand it, but I feel that the wave boss is in just as powerful a state now as it was when the wave started."
Naofumi considered this.
"If Monti's correct then... The ship itself? Those birds were dying for it..., but it doesn't show info to my [Inspect]..."
"We have no other option. We're going down there." Naofumi concluded.
...
Aboard the ship.
...
Motoyasu had killed five kraken heads so far, but the things seemed just as lively as ever. It even gained its heads back after some time. This led Motoyasu to the conclusion that each head had to be slain at once, or at least before the others revived. He wanted Ren to help, but he wouldn't listen.
Ren had been battling the Skull Captain. He had defeated it twice, but both times it simply revived itself. Still, each time it died, the ship slowed. Ren saw this and concluded that if he kept killing the Skull Captain, then the ship would eventually 'sink' and fall from the sky. He wanted Motoyasu to help, but he wouldn't listen.
Naofumi frowned. "So they just ignore each other and divide up their effort? Idiots!"
Ren and Motoyasu were both being pushed back by the endless advance of their opponents. They both backed up into one another, prompting them to lash out.
"Just ignore the damned skeleton for a second. There are a lot more of these bastards."
"Are you crazy? We're on a ship. A ship! Take out the captain and it'll spawn the boss."
"The kraken keeps the ship up and is the higher level. The damned skeleton is an add. You're wasting your time on an add! An add!"
Suddenly, Naofumi and his party fell onto the ship.
Several well aimed [Fast Fireball] spells hit their mark as each kraken head was struck, burning their face and, more importantly, their eyes. Once blinded, Teal used [Ensnare], turning her fingertips into vines and bringing them together. Lastly, Filo came down in her full form and sliced the heads off of each of the long necks.
On the other side, Raphtalia landed, striking the Skull Captain as she came down. From there, she engaged it in a brief exchange of blows. As soon as it fully turned to face her, Monti came down and mauled the skeleton, lightning sparking off in every direction.
"Hey Liviccic, found you a level 49 super pirate skeleton." Teal said.
"See? Not a waste of time." Liviccic responded.
Lastly, Naofumi landed next to Motoyasu and Ren.
"It's been more than two hours! Stop arguing and figure it out!" Naofumi yelled.
The pair saw Naofumi's team perform very well with their sneak attack, but wouldn't admit it.
"Oh, the shield hero? Why are you even here? Just go guard some village and let us deal with the real issue."
"We've secured the village, but the monsters will keep spawning until the boss is defeated. Naofumi-sama can't defend it forever while you do nothing!" Raphtalia shot back.
Malty was livid. "Demi-human filth? Talking back to me?" She whispered to herself.
"Monti, do you sense the wave boss?" Leon asked
"Yeah... It felt like... It felt like these things are the wave boss, but not really. I don't know how to explain it."
Ren was curious. "How can you sense the wave boss?"
No one answered him. Instead, they watched the Skull Captain return to life, followed soon after by the kraken beginning to grow new heads on the ends of each neck.
They all watched the scene, trying to piece it together.
"The shadows!" Teal shouted. "Their shadows are all weird. They don't follow the light at all, they're not even on the side they should be. They're something else. Mom!"
Raphtalia began chanting her spell as Ren got angry at being ignored.
"Hey. I asked a questio-"
A small amount of fire shot right past his face. As he looked to the source, he saw Leon. Leon moved past Ren slowly and deliberately towards his mother. He never took his eyes off Ren as he stared a hole through him. Ren was now aware that things were not settled between the pair.
"What the hell? I said I was sorry."
[First Light]
With the bright light active, everyone could see the smiling, sinister faces within the shadows. Instinctively, Monti struck at the shadow of the Skull Captain, releasing some kind of force. Seeing this, Ren struck the shadow beneath the kraken's necks. It released a similar force.
Itsuki and his party boarded the side of the ship after seeing the boss was spawning. They reached the ship using one of Itsuki's skills, [Blink Arrow]. As they made their way over to the others, they looked at the situation.
The forces became visible and as they brightened, they converged above the ship, swirling together, becoming something.
"That's it." Monti said with a growl.
From the lights spawned a huge fish-like creature, pale with a pink aura, with rows of sharp teeth and small clawed arms.
[Dimensional Soul Eater] Lv 51
It cried out with a mighty shriek and let its power be known. The force made nearly everyone stop dead in their tracks. All, but one. Monti transformed into his full form and leapt at the wave boss. He once again tried to coat his body in lightning, but it'd only do so in sporadic patches. His befuddled mind and need to prove himself as more than a wave monster drove him to the type of straight forward attack that'd be expected of Motoyasu.
He sunk his claws and teeth into the flesh of his enemy, striking over and over again with his tail. It admittedly did good damage, but it left him wide open. The wave boss began charging a ball of green energy. Monti saw this, but kept at it. He had tunnel vision and it was going to get him seriously hurt. Just before the attack was launched, Naofumi intervened.
[Air Strike Shield]
The forming barrier forcibly separated the two before the attack could be released. Once released, it struck the barrier and left it cracked, but holding.
Monti landed on the ship and transformed back, realizing his blunder.
"Monti! Do not act so rashly. Your father named you as one of the few to give orders after him. Don't make him regret that." Raphtalia scolded him.
She hated scolding him, but it had to be done. Before he hurt himself.
"Father? What the hell?" Motoyasu asked, thinking of the little bit he heard about their party dynamic until now.
"Lightning seems to do well enough against it." Itsuki commented.
[Thunder Arrow]
Motoyasu and Ren saw what he was doing and followed up themselves.
[Thunderbolt Slash]
[Lightning Spear]
The three attacks became one and with a force that had nearly thrown a few people from the ship as it hit the soul eater with great power.
The very next moment, it came through the smoke roaring. Not a single Hp lower than before it attacked.
"That makes no sense. That kid dealt lightning damage to it." Itsuki said in frustration.
"That isn't true..." Teal said, thinking a moment.
"It obviously is, that kid-"
"His name is Monti. I believe the damage he dealt was purely physical, with the added bonus of his lightning amounting to nothing... We should try other elements and pinpoint and exploit a weakness, if possible. Otherwise we need to focus on physical attacks."
"We don't need you to tell us that!" Itsuki was being ordered around by a child and he couldn't stand it.
"Do as Teal said, Filo, Leon!" Raphtalia called.
[Fast Tornado]
[Fast Fireball]
Both attacks hit, both did a small amount of damage. In response, it began charging that same blast again.
"Those seem to work, so just lightning immunity? Everyone fall back behind my shield."
The family did as instructed, but no one else did. All three heroes attempted to interrupt the wave boss' attack, but no one was fast enough.
The next attack struck at the section of the ship right below itself. The shock wave threw everyone back and Motoyasu's mage ally fell off the ship entirely. Motoyasu saw this and called out to her.
"Rino!"
Leon ran off the ship and transformed, flying down to save her. He dove past her then had her lightly land on his back before correcting his flight and began to fly back to the ship. As he did, the kraken's newly formed heads attempted to intercept him, but a strong breath of fire convinced them otherwise.
The moment he could, Leon transformed back landing on the ship with Rino.
The moment Leon and the mage were back aboard the ship, Motoyasu thanked Leon. In his mind that was a different from thanking Naofumi.
Leon ignored Motoyasu and returned to his father's side.
"Great job, Leon!" Raphtalia praised him.
"We aren't letting that thing use that skill again. Bring it down and keep it there." Naofumi said.
The group nodded.
Motoyasu went to the young mage's side and made sure she was okay. Most of the rest of the team was near her too, just as concerned.
Itsuki seemed too focused on the fact that Naofumi's group was hogging the spotlight to do anything himself.
Ren at least took out the Skull Captain again the moment it stood up instead of standing there, doing nothing.
So that left Naofumi's party to do the job.
Leon began chanting as Filo used [High Quick] to appear next to the beast and begin peppering it with kick after kick, using [Wind Walk] to stay up in his face. The monster's response was to begin charging its blast again.
After Leon was done chanting, Filo jumped away from the boss.
Leon strained himself a bit as he cast a spell that even had Teal double take.
[Zweite Hellfire]
Several orbs of fire appeared all around the ship. Following Leon's hand motions, the fire converged on the boss covering him completely in fire.
"An intermediate spell? ...In two days? From not even knowing magic!?" Teal couldn't believe it.
Teal was dumbstruck by Leon's talent. Even with her superior intellect, she wasn't quite to the point of casting magic herself. It really showed her how talented the rest of the family was.
"Now, bring it down!" Naofumi ordered.
Monti had already transformed and climbed the mast of the ship, waiting for the order. He leapt at the boss with enough force to break the tip of the mast. The soul eater was still busy trying to shake the fire off of it as Monti closed the distance and spun his whole body, laying his weapon and tail into its head and launching it into the ship.
The moment it hit the ground, Teal rooted herself into the long dead wood of the ship and began wrapping newly grown roots and vines around the enemy.
[Undergrove]
"Now! Lay into it!" Naofumi called.
His family began striking it all over, while Teal focused on holding it down as best she could. As the roots began to crack under the strength of the boss, they thought it would free itself.
[Binding Shadow]
Itsuki began launching attacks at the boss as well, the first one assisting in keeping it subdued.
[Bull's Eye]
Next he hit the boss with an arrow that created a small circular area on the boss. Every attack that hit that area was considered a 'critical hit', dealing 50% more damage and ignoring temporary buffs and debuffs.
[Scatter Shot]
Oddly enough, the arrows were so perfect in their aim that they seemed to curve around others to hit their mark, the small bonus area the last skill made, which faded right afterwards.
Ren came up next and switched to an odd blue sword that had its own sheath
[Sealing Slash]
He struck the boss, then sheathed his sword. Afterwards, he switched to his old sword and used normal skills.
[Flurry of Blades]
Ren's blade began to glow yellow, then in the next instant, he slashed six times. It was so fast that even Ren couldn't keep up with his own movements.
[Sword Quake]
Then he finished his combo off by stabbing the boss, then using his skill to rattle the whole body with painful vibrations.
[Diving Lance]
Motoyasu had leapt high into the air and came down hard on the beast, sinking the blade deep into him.
[Trident Torrent]
He then spawned a large amount of water at his spear's tip. Normally, it was used to blast enemies with high pressure water, but in this case it was used to free his spear while dealing some extra damage.
[Air Strike Javalin]
He then jumped off the monster while launching his spear again.
As everyone kept attacking, its Hp continued to drop and at a great pace too, but Teal was at her limit. The beast broke free and returned to the sky, beaten and bloodied, trying and failing to cast its spell.
"Why isn't it attacking?" Raphtalia asked.
"My [Sealing Slash] binds the last spell or skill used by my opponent."
"For how long?" Itsuki asked.
"Until I bind someone else. If I never use the skill again, it'll never use that spell again."
"So it can't do much to us now?" Malty probed.
"Not with its favorite little trick... It might have other moves." Teal added.
"Not anymore." Naofumi said, taking three steps forward.
[Sunder]
Motoyasu thought he knew how strong that attack was, but he was wrong as usual. Back when [Sunder] barely overtook his own [Triaina], Naofumi wasn't wearing his armor. His recently upgraded armor. And [Sunder] did damage based on his defense stat. Now it was 35% stronger than it was the other day and, with all Naofumi's might, he sent the attack at the soul eater. It was nearly torn in two and its remains fell at the front of the ship.
"We did it, Naofumi-sama! Now the village is-" Raphtalia began to cheer.
"No, not yet!" Monti warned.
Everyone looked around... The wave continued.
"Wha-"
A second wave boss came up from the floor and made itself known with an already charged blast. Only Naofumi's group was safe behind his shield. With the others using so many skills and abilities in quick succession and now receiving a second blast, they were more or less out of the picture.
Naofumi didn't know what to do. It took all of them to kill the last one and he foolishly used his once a day skill too early. They could have easily finished the other one off normally. It would have taken longer, but not more than five minutes and it was unable to blast them anymore. After that, he could of used [Sunder] on this new one and been half way done with the fight at worst.
He was even told that waves could have multiple bosses, but never entertained the idea...
"What do we do now?" Filo asked with a sad look on her face.
Naofumi understood why. With only their small group, they could still beat it, but it'd take too long. By that time, the village might be overrun and then everything they worked for would be for nothing...
"I'm going to use that shield."
Everyone but Leon knew what he meant. The others wanted to argue him out of it..., but at this point?
"Do so... Just remember that we are right her next to you." Raphtalia reassured him.
"Understood."
"Listen up. I have to switch shields. Some of you will lose communication." Naofumi waited to hear them affirm that they heard him.
Naofumi navigated his menu to his goal. The [Wrath Shield].
The moment he switched to it, he was surrounded by a dark aura. His clothes were made of magic thread and his armor was blended with his crystal ore. Without intending to, his outfit underwent a drastic change alongside him. His armor expanded, forming a full armor set of a twisted shape, obsidian in color.
The Skull Captain stood up one last time. It went to strike Naofumi, but Raphtalia intercepted the strikes a few times and managed to strike it several times. Once it was low, it slipped past Raphtalia and struck Naofumi, doing only a small amount of damage, but [Self Burning Curse] activated and took the undead out for the last time.
As before, their goal was to knock the enemy down, but most of them were running low on Mp and had to entertain the horrifying idea that there would be a third. Teal readied some wooden spikes below the boss as Monti and Filo rode Leon above the enemy and the three came down on it.
Raphtalia stayed at Naofumi's side, trying to rouse him from the angry daze he was in.
Every terrible thing that happened to Naofumi was playing itself on loop in his mind. Being transported to this word, being accused and found guilty of rape, being hated by so many people. Only derailing briefly to other things that happened to others that would anger him, like Raphtalia's past or the Gaelion incident. The whole thing had him so mad he couldn't think straight. He thought of killing Malty while she was down, Motoyasu and Ren too. He'd indulge this terrible feeling for just a moment.
But no sooner did he have that thought than he thought of Monti. Monti was also fighting a terrible feeling, compelling him to do horrible things... And yet he hadn't caved.
He looked to Raphtalia who was speaking to him, but he couldn't hear her that well. He looked to the kids that were fighting the boss.
"What the fuck do I have to be mad about really? I'm surrounded by people who care about me. Each of whom are admirable in their own way. I have the future ruler of this country as my ally... I actually have a lot of allies. Those defending that town. Erhart, the witch, Beloukas. I have a lot... So, quit bitching!"
Naofumi could hear Raphtalia now.
"I know you're strong enough, we-"
He placed his hand on her head. "Thank you. All of you."
[Sixth and Seventh conditions for F*mi*y *r*st series have been unlocked]
That terrible force only ever captured Naofumi's heart before because he thought they were dead. With them alive right in front of him, he was strong enough to fight the curse off.
The Boss struck the ship, or more accurately the spikes, with a shriek. Naofumi ran forward and placed the shield against its flesh. [Self Burning Curse] began to activate and engulf it.
The Hp bar of the creature was going down, but not fast enough. Naofumi wanted a way to end this quickly, but even this evil power was too slow.
For the first time in a long while, [Menu Plus] activated.
[Notice] [Help Menu]
[Suggested action: Shield Prison + Change Shield (Needle) + Wrath Shield = ?]
Naofumi stared at the screen a moment. He didn't hesitate after he read it.
[Shield Prison]
The prison encased the boss, but it immediately started fighting its way out. Naofumi wouldn't give it the chance.
[Change Shield (Needle)]
Needles impaled the boss all over, doing a little damage, but not much.
Suddenly, with the shield effect active in just this way and with the wrath shield out, he saw a new skill available. He started speaking in a voice that wasn't entirely his own and saying things he wasn't meaning to say. Part way through he realized he was saying the phrases necessary for the skill. His power surged as he finished the incantation.
[Iron Maiden]
A massive decorated Iron Maiden appeared in the sky, twisting the clouds even more so than the wave itself. The [Shield Prison] rose and continued to rise until it was within the grasp of the now open Iron Maiden. The doors attempted to shut, but didn't immediately break through the [Shield Prison]. Naofumi forced it shut with an accompanying clenching of the fist.
The doors forced themselves shut as the dying gasps of the monster cried out. The sky lit up in a display of power and the Iron Maiden faded, leaving the soul eater to fall past the ship, dead.
Naofumi looked to Monti, who gave a thumbs up.
No more bosses.
Naofumi and his party came in for a group hug as the other three heroes and their parties stared in disbelief.
"You did well, hero."
Came a voice that Naofumi couldn't place. He turned toward it. At the head of the ship was someone new. She was a sleek, long haired beauty wearing a kimono. Which made no sense. Naofumi knew that no one around here even knew what a kimono was and yet this new person was wearing one. Naofumi looked around. The wave was still going on!?
"Monti! Is she a wave boss!? What's going on!?" Raphtalia was panicking.
"...No. she isn't..." Monti said in confusion.
"Then why is the wave continuing!?" Teal was also panicking.
The new woman glanced around.
"Only one of you is worthy of the title of 'hero'? Tell me, hero, what is your name?"
Naofumi didn't like this. They were all running low on resources. "Is she also an enemy?"
"You should offer your own name before asking someone else theirs."
"Ah, yes, how rude of me." She opened up her fans and took a fighting stance.
"My name is Glass. Feel free to consider me your enemy..."
"Goddammit, I hate being right."
"Now... let us begin the true battle of this wave."
.
[Author's Notes]
Through careful planning and a little good luck, they are making it through so far with zero deaths.
I changed the exact nature of the three other heroes' mistakes to make them seem more reasonable. Still dumb, but not full retard.
The big change here is how the soul eater fight went down. Naofumi has three more teammates with power similar to Filo. With that, Naofumi was able to take down the first boss without resorting to the curse series.
And yes the heroes helped, because there doesn't exist a justification for them to set around doing nothing. So any perceived increase in their intelligence is not intentional.
The reason they were able to fight the second soul eater without Glass interrupting them was simple. They got there way sooner. They secured the town an entire hour ahead of canon. That allowed them the time to battle it and win before she made herself known.
I would have liked to have wrapped up the wave this chapter, but had too much stuff to cover.
Both one of the Soul Eaters and the Skull Captain were killed by curses. They are both undead; as a spirit and skeleton. Liviccic will finally have good undead!
I noticed I got far fewer reviews last chapter. Which is the thing I care about, not views, follows or favorites. I like the input and conversations. Was it because of when I uploaded it? Did you guy not like the chapter? Did I introduce too many minor character? What did I do wrong?
