Previously on Descendants:
"The princess is awake," Carlistle exclaimed. "Mallory's awake!"
Mallory sat up in her bed and she began to sing.
Mallory: I've always been the kind of girl;
That hid my face;
So afraid to tell the world;

"It's you," Justin exclaimed. "you're the girl I've dreamed about so many times!"
Mallory: Do you know what it's like;

Julian, Ella, and Carlistle applauded Justin and Mallory for their singing.
"Bravo," Julian cheered. "bravo!"
"That was incredible," Carlistle exclaimed. "you both should join the school's chorus!"
"That's an awesome idea, Carlistle!" Mallory exclaimed.
"Oh, Mallory, I don't really need to join the chorus." Justin said.
"Why is that, Justin?" Julian asked.
"Because I had already joined the school's chorus, Julian." Justin reminded.
Everybody in the room had to laugh.
On an airplane from Northern Wei, Ben and Mal were thinking about their daughter.
Now on Descendants:
"Oh, Ben," Mal said. "I cannot wait to see our little girl!"
"Now, Mal," Ben said gently. "our Mallory is hardly a little girl, after all, she is 15-years-old now."
"Ben, she will always be our little girl." Mal said.
"I know you're right, Mal," Ben said. "but Mallory's become a woman now."
"I know she is." the queen sighed.
Suddenly, a flight attendant came up to the king and queen, she handed a note to Queen Mal.
"My king, my queen," the flight attendant said. "this letter arrived for you from a woman named Jane."
Mal took the letter from the flight attendant and read it.
"Oh no!" Mal exclaimed.
"What is it?" Ben asked his wife.
The Queen of Auradon decided to read the letter out loud to her husband.
Mal: Dear Ben and Mal,
I bring bad news,
Carlos had passed away late last night.
My Carlistle is beside himself with grief.
My dear husband will be missed by everyone both in Auradon and on the Isle of the Lost.
Love and loyalty should always stand true.
Your faithful friend,
Jane.
"You know what we need to do when we get back, don't you?" Ben asked Mal.
"Yes I do, Ben," Mal sighed. "we need to give Carlos a proper funeral."
A few days after returning to Auradon, Ben and Mal conducted the funeral for Carlos.
After Carlos's memorial service, everyone went back to their homes.
Coming up in chapter 10: Investigation:
"So, what did you find in Carlos's hand, Evie?" Jay asked.
"A spilled cup," Evie answered Jay. "I think Carlos might have been poisoned!"
Mal entered the conference room where Evie and Jay were knee deep in their conversation.
"I didn't mean to eavedrop here, but why would someone want to poison Carlos so as to kill him?" Mal asked, she was puzzled.
Jay and Evie looked at the Queen of Auradon, their expressions were gravely serious.
