Chapter 13: Ghost Riders in the Sky

Before we continue, I like to show you what was happening while we were gone. At camp, Percy was heading to my room in the Big House since after finding out about my curse, I was to stay in the Big House until I was cured and set to return home. Percy walked in to check up on me.

"Estelle? Are you awake?" He asked quietly. The bed was silent.

"Look… Estelle, I know that you're mad. But please, you have to understand. This life… It's not all fun and adventurous. People die… especially the most powerful ones. I… lost a lot of good people, and it still hurts to this day. I just want to protect you from this, Estelle. Please understand. Estelle?"

As Percy checked the bed, he noticed that the figure was too soft to be a human. He uncovered the bed and found a small pile of pillows disguised as a human figure.

"Son of bi-"

[Meanwhile]

["(Ghost) Riders in the Sky", played by the Outlaws.]

Tempest neighed as we dash toward the woods. Sam held on to me tight as we were riding like the wind. Heh, get it? Because of Tempest? He's truly a majestic horse. When we first met, he was friendly with me. It was like he knew me before. But this was our first time meeting. I wonder why.?

Well anyways, he invited me to get on him and I so I hopped on him and he gave me the best rollercoaster ride I'd ever experienced.

Thus led to our current situation.

"Hey Tempest! Let's show Sam what you can really do!"

Tempest ran faster and just as we were about to hit a ledge, Sam screamed as he lifted off towards the air and flew onwards toward the sky.

"WHOO!" I yelled as we scour toward the sky on our friendly neighborhood wind spirit, Tempest.

That's right. Our mount here got some serious horsepower.

[Laughing at her own terrible joke]

A-anyways, Sam was clinging on to me tight as we scour across the sky.

"And where exactly did you find Tempest?!" Sam asked.

"He actually found me! I was walking down the woods and we just met. He invited me to ride him and he gave me a joyride across the sky and the woods! I thought he was some magical horse or something. But it turns out our friend here is a wind spirit."

"A wind spirit?! Like a ghost?"

"Yeah, and we're riding him towards Brooklyn! Like a bunch of ghost riders in the sky! WHOO!"

I yelled as we dive towards the ground. Sam screams as the wind hits us toward the face. You know, I didn't get much horse-riding experience in my life but Percy gave me enough knowledge to understand it. Which is why I got the saddle and stuff from the equipment room. Even on that same day I did research about him too and found out that he's a wind spirit shaped like a horse. I was blown away by that and learned about his powers and such. Apparently, wind spirits are territorial and overprotective but, for some reason, Tempest accepted me.

As we got closer to the city, I saw a highway mostly empty. Mostly, as we saw a Charger Mustang going way above the speed limit, not caring about the safety of others. Good thing there's not much traffic.

"Hey Sam!" I yelled.

"What?"

"Wanna see which horse is the fastest?" I smirked.

Sam understood, "Stella, wai-WHOA!"

Before Sam could reply, I steered Tempest behind the car. I spoke to Tempest about it, "Hey Tempest! That car is a Mustang! It's named after a type of breed of horses. Think you can beat it?"

Tempest neighed and suddenly, lightning was surrounding us and Tempest really put the pedal to the metal. He dashed far faster than the car and made a loud thundering sound as we passed by, scaring the driver and forcing him to stop.

I scream in excitement as we dash on toward the city.

Tempest was a really fast horse. I don't know how on earth he's fast but… dang he's fast. He lifted up again toward the sky as we started to cross the river toward Brooklyn. And out on the side, we see Manhattan. The place where every Spider-man legends began; home of Olympus (somehow) and also where I live.

"There it is, Sam. Good ol' New York!"

Sam was amazed at the view of New York so high up in the sky. The lights were bright at the bottom, with all the cars and street lights shining bright. It's like those scenes you see in movies that show an overlook on cities. Seeing it in movies is one thing, but seeing it in real life is breathtaking.

"Before we explore the city, we have to head back to my apartment, I need to get some stuff in my room."

"But how are we going to get inside? Your room doesn't have a fire-escape latch."

"I'll find a way. Let's go Tempest!"

Tempest neighed and dash on toward the city.

Later on, once we arrived in the city, we stopped on top of my apartment building so I could get some stuff in my room.

"So, how are you going to get inside your room? Percy may have already found out about us sneaking out and may have told your parents."

I snorted, "That's right, you don't know."

Sam gave me a confusing look as I walked toward the edge and dive down. Sam ran to stop me but as she reached down towards the edge, she saw me standing at the side of the building.

"Surprised?"

"HOLY CRAP! You are Spider-man!"

I laughed as I climbed down to go pick up some stuff. I opened the window quietly and snuck into my room. My front door was slightly open, but I could hear chatter in the living room. As I gather my things quietly, I hear my mom.

"Percy? What's wrong?"

Sounds like Percy found out. Should've made the pillows more stiff somehow.

"I see… so she may yet turn up home, then?" Mom chuckled. "She takes a lot after you, you know."

I smirked at the comment as I heard Percy's faint yelling on the phone.

"Percy, I know how much you love us. And I'm grateful for you being an amazing brother to your sister. But, you need to let her grow up on her own. She can't be our little girl forever. No matter how much we wish for it."

Thanks mom… at least there's someone in the family that trusts me enough.

"I did the same to you, didn't I? I let you go take a bath at the River Styx, knowing that you may lose yourself there."

Wait… what?! He took a dip in the river that lurks in the underworld?! Then shouldn't he have the Achilles Heel? Ugh, I hate when he leaves out important details!

"That was different, yes. You were at war. But… deep down, I knew you'd come back. Because I raised that little boy to always be there for those he loves. And now, he's a fine young man with a lovely family and a sister who sees her big brother as a hero."

I started blushing as mom said that. While I'm still mad at him at the moment, I still love my brother. Afterwards, she ended the call, assuring Percy that if I turned up, she'll let him know.

I then hear dad coming out from their bedroom.

"Was that Percy?" He asked.

"Yeah, Estelle snuck out."

"What?!" Dad yelled.

I rolled my eyes. Despite my dad and Percy not being blood-related, they're very similar when it comes to me.

"Don't worry, she'll be fine."

"But, what if the monsters come and-"

"She'll be fine. Honestly, you and Percy are a lot alike."

Thank you, mom!

"Can you blame us? Estelle is our little princess…"

"I know, honey. But she's growing up now, and she needs to spread her wings."

"...You're right… I just hope she's okay."

"Percy is out there looking for her now. She'll be safe."

Dad chuckled, "Percy's a good kid."

"He better, I raised him."

The two chuckled as I saw them hugging.

"But, if it makes you and Percy happy. She's grounded for a month when she gets back," Mom said.

Ugh… MOM!

As I sneak out, I slowly close the window so I don't leave any traces of me being there. I climbed up toward the roof and saw Sam.

"You good, Stella?"

"Yeah, but Percy found out and called my parents. We're so screwed when we get back."

Sam groaned, "I told you this would happen."

I shrugged, "I needed this. Percy was being too stubborn and overprotective. It's like I was suffocating. I need some fresh air."

"Okay, but why am I involved?"

"Because I know you want to see more of my powers, don't you?"

"...damn it… why couldn't I just be a geek instead of a nerd."

I laughed, "Come on, let's go explore the city."

And so we did, Tempest is on standby as he drops us off at Brooklyn; but he'll be nearby if we need to head back. Though you're probably wondering why Brooklyn and not Manhattan. Well first of all, it's the one place Percy would KNOW I'd be so it's not safe to explore there at the moment. And second, every now and then Sam and I would hang out in Brooklyn and just chill, either by one of the old abandoned warehouses or by the parks where we used to play back when we were kids. It was also our one place we go to whenever either of us need to destress ourselves from either family, school or other stuff.

Sam and I then went to a shop that sells old shirts and jackets and Sam managed to find an old jacket that was based on Spider-Gwen outfit from the animated movie.

"Really, Sam?" I said.

"Come on, you were thinking of it too," Sam replied.

I rolled my eyes but was smiling.

Even though I recently found out about the world of Mythology actually existing, the last thing I'd expect is having the powers of a spider and being another variant of Spider-man.

Oh god, what's MY Canon Event?

Let's not think about that. Let's just have some fun.

So Sam bought the Jacket and made me wear it for obvious reasons.

"But I already have a jacket."

"But your jean jacket doesn't have the Spiderman logo on it."

"Not unless I can get a good patch for it."

After we explored around, we stopped by our little hideout which is an abandoned warehouse that oversees Manhattan.

And even more about my powers. We tried practicing on swinging in the warehouse, only to end up with me crashing and hitting a wall most of the time. I've been getting the hang of it, but so far I'm still struggling. Sam on the other hand is just watching and laughing as my face falls flat on either the walls or the ground. We've been having fun while listening to some music on my phone with my bluetooth speaker. The current song we're listening to is "In the Meantime" by Spacehog and our personal favorite, "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone. We love Guardians of the Galaxy, okay?! Can you blame us?!

As we relaxed, I told Sam what I heard from the meeting in the Big House as well as her visit to the Kane family. About the Cult of the Cosmos and their influence across the world. About Typhon and how he stole the Trident of Poseidon and everyone is on alert. About how Percy invited Hazel and Frank to take Sam to Camp Jupiter, another camp for demigods in California. About everything that has happened in this whole week alone.

Still, after all that, I was still mad about Percy's suggestion about Sam's safety.

"He's gonna send you off to California! Separate us so that I can be safe…"

I was quiet as I tried to get my thoughts together.

"It's bad enough we lost touch with… you know… I can't bear to lose you too."

"So you decided to sneak out here to cool off from your brother?"

"Percy went off to find the lightning bolt when he was ten years old! I just… I'm just so sick of him treating me like a kid all the time!"

"Stella, we ARE kids."

"Yeah, kids that fought a flying monster and a giant bull-man!"

I sigh.

"Stella," Sam replied. "This whole week has been one craziness after another. I know you want to prove yourself to everyone, but you need to take it slow."

I took a deep breath to cool off from my rants.

"You're right. I guess I'm just mad..."

"Percy is just being a big brother."

"No, not him… at myself."

Sam frowned, "Why?"

"... I couldn't do anything to protect you from Vulture and… after what happened to your dad…"

Sam sighs and leans on me.

"Stella, that wasn't your fault. You did everything you could. I miss him… but I know he'd want me to be happy and safe."

I smiled.

Maybe I am getting ahead of myself. I mean, I'm still contemplating the fact that Sam's dad just died about a week ago. We knew him ever since I was kid, to lose him after this long just felt… unreal. And then after that it was just one craziness after another. I encountered a spirit horse; met up with some Egyptian sorcerers; found out my cousin is actually dead; several of Percy's friends are powerful demigods and most of all… I'm freaking Spider-man. I have this power to save the world and Percy is stopping me from even trying.

Is it wrong for me to want to follow in his footsteps? To help others I care about? To become a hero like him?

Though, then again. I didn't WANT to be a hero. I just want to be a part of their lives. Helping people, fighting monsters.

The family business!

(If you understood this reference, WE ARE NOW BESTIES FOR LIFE!)

I guess it was a good idea to come here. It was nice to just take a minute to get away from everything and process what's been happening. We just relaxed as we watched the lights in Manhattan when I suddenly felt a strong tingling sense. Seems like my Spidey senses are working.

"Sam, something's coming."

We stood up and had our weapons ready. I had my dagger as Sam took out her sword, she also took her broken spear. She said that it may come useful, but I think it's because she's into the whole Assassin's Creed vibe from it. Makes sense since it's literally Leonidas' spear.

I heard the front gate open and saw several people walking in. They were very shady since they were wearing hoodies and covering most of their faces with them or with beanies.

I thought we'd have time to hide, but apparently not.

"Oi! Miras Muchachos!" Said their ringleader. "Got ourselves some trespassers here!"

The boss had a thick hispanic accent and seems to be around mid-20's.

"We don't want any trouble," I said. "We're just passing through. That's all."

"Funny you would say. Your amiga there reeks of trouble."

The tingling is getting stronger.

"W-what are you talking about?" I said.

"Your friend there has some strong blood," He snarled.

I pointed my weapon at him.

"You stay away from us!" I ordered.

The guys laughed but the ring leader stopped and frowned, "Hold on, your scent… is different yet familiar."

"I-I don't know what you're talking about." I replied.

"Your scent reminds me… of him…" He snarled. "Percy Jackson."

The others snarled as well.

"Well then! Looks like today is our lucky day, my friends!"

"What the hell do you guys want?!" I said.

"Ah, where are my manners," The leader spoke. "The name's Manuel. I make deals for… certain products in the streets, just to get by. But out here, they call me Scorpion."

I snorted. "Really? Scorpion? Why's that?"

As I asked, his goons started to change forms into more beast-like creatures until they ended up becoming hounds. As for Manuel, his hands started growing claws and he started to growl like a lion. But that's not what shocked me the most.

"Oh… you'll see…"

Manuel replied, as a scorpion tail manifested behind him.

"Ah crapbasket." Sam and I said.

Author's Note:

So I bought myself Final Fantasy XVI (16) and… You know what, I'll let my producer answer for me. Nappa?

[Nappa arrives as I leave to my office to cry]

Nappa: Hi everyone, Citizen Nappa here! Let me explain the situation as to why the delay. You see, a while ago, our author here bought Final Fantasy XVI and couldn't focus until he finished the game. Once he did… he never was the same again. Especially since he's a hardcore shipper like most of you. So we do apologize for the delay, but if you have played FFXVI then you surely understand, right?

[Still crying in the office]

Nappa: Dang, he's taking it hard. Like Vegeta had from Freiza. Ah I'm sure he'll get over it. So, be sure to leave a comment, a like and subscr- oh wait, we're not a youtube video. Just, leave a like. Until the next time!
