Chapter 15: Look, He didn't Want to be a Half-Blood
"What were you thinking?!" Percy yelled.
Sam and I stood there while we were scolded by my brother for sneaking off camp and got ambushed by monsters.
After our fight with the Minotaur and Scorpion, Percy and his friends took us to a roof in Manhattan. From there, we're being punished.
"If we didn't arrive on time… I don't want to think of what could've happened!" Percy yelled. "How did you even get here so quickly?!"
"I had help," I shrugged.
"Who?!"
Suddenly, a loud neighing was heard in the distance. As we looked toward the direction, we saw Tempest flying down toward us.
"Shoot," I said. I was hoping to hide Tempest so that they can't take him away. But here he is, showing himself to the world.
"Okay, fine! You got me; this is-"
"Tempest…" Percy finished.
I frowned, "You know him?"
I saw Percy's expression and then everyone else's. It was filled with shock… and sorrow.
"...He was Jason's…"
Oh… that makes sense.
"Tempest? Why are you here?" Hazel asked. "We've been looking all over for you."
Tempest replied with his usual neighing.
None of us understood him, except Percy.
"Promise? What Promise?"
"Hold on, you can understand him?!" I asked. "How?"
"Horses are also Poseidon's children," Annabeth answered. "Therefore, they can understand each other."
"Okay, but he's not a horse. He's a wind spirit."
"Yeah, I'm just as confused as you are," Annabeth replied.
"We'll talk about this later," Percy said, gesturing to Tempest. "Right now, my main concern is you, Estelle."
I sigh as Sam asks, "How did you guys find us?"
"Frank went out first to find you and saw you guys in Brooklyn when he was a hawk."
"Say what?" Sam said.
Hazel explained how Frank can transform into any animal due to his family curse. While Sam was amazed, I had a more shocking revelation about this.
"Wait," I said. "So those pictures of your daughter and her pet platypus, that was you?!"
Hazel tried to hide her laughter while Frank was blushing and replied, "...She's a huge fan of Phineas and Ferb."
While Sam and I are in trouble, we couldn't help but think of an amazing skit we could do with Frank turning into a platypus and using a 1950's Fedora.
Oh… Marie is going to love it…
"Frank!" Percy yelled. Frank jumped and cleared his throat.
"Sorry, Percy."
Percy sighs and rubs his forehead.
"It's my fault," Sam said. "I'm just intrigued by all you guys' abilities. I mean, Hazel can move the earth; Frank can transform into animals and Percy can control water."
"And you, Annabeth? What's your ability?" I asked.
"Taming your brother."
And that's why Annabeth will always be considered to me the bravest hero.
"Stop trying to change the subject, you two!"
"S-sorry," Sam replied.
Percy spoke, "Just, why? Why cause all this trouble? Can't you see that I'm trying to protect you?! What you just did was dangerous and reckless!"
I sigh in frustration, "Look, I'm sorry, okay?! I know it was wrong for me to sneak out and have Sam follow along with me. But I was really frustrated, okay?!" I finally let it all out. Everything I needed to say. "You hid this life from me! You lied to me, and the only reason you revealed everything was because you had no choice. You were going to hide this from me my whole life! And when I got these powers, you started taking control of my life! You made my choices without my opinion. And don't get me started on Camp! Most of the campers started seeing me as some threat or monster! Do you guys honestly believe I'd hurt any of you? You're my family! You all came to all of my birthday parties, my school events, our freaking family vacations!"
Everyone was silent as I rambled on with my frustration and anger.
"The only family I ever knew was you guys! So it pains me that you hid all of this from me! Especially you, Percy! You were my big brother, my first role model! Why would you keep this from me?!" I yelled.
"Look, I didn't want to be a Half-Blood!" He yelled. "I didn't want to spend my life looking over my shoulders and be afraid of whatever lurks in the shadows! I didn't want to spend most of my childhood fighting monsters; wars and gods! All I ever wanted was to be normal! To go to school without causing damage; to hang out with friends out in the open; to live here, with you and mom and Paul! But I can't! Want to know why?!"
I was staggered at Percy's frustration.
"It's because I'm a god damned Half-Blood! A freaking super-warrior that had to spend his life fighting for a world that doesn't know he exists! A freak to regular people like you! And the ones that DO understand me and Annabeth and the rest of us end up DEAD! Just like…"
Percy stopped abruptly.
"Like who?" I asked. "Jason?"
"YES!" He replied. "And not just him, there were others. Bianca Di Angelo; Zoe Nightshade; Charles Beckendorf; Michael Yew; Silena Beauregard; Ethan Nakamura and many more! All died for saving a world that doesn't even know they existed once! Fighting for selfish gods or just to see tomorrow! And I don't want that for you! This life is not for you."
"Why not?! How is this okay for you and not for me?!"
"BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT STRONG ENOUGH!" He replied. "YOU'RE NOT READY TO FACE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF YOUR ACTIONS!"
Everything went quiet after that. Annabeth and the others just watched quietly over the sibling squabble.
I, on the other hand, was shaking with fury and heartbreak. Tears were starting to appear on my face after what he just said. I mean, Percy has always said that I was going to be amazing in the future. So what changed that? What made him think that I wasn't good enough for this life of adventures and fantasy? Yeah, lots of good people died in the past, but things must have improved since, right?
Percy took a deep breath, "You're just not ready for the responsibility this life will force upon you, Estelle. You're not ready to face the consequences of your actions. Tonight clearly showed that."
I faced away from Percy, angered at what he said to me.
"I'm sorry, Estelle. But once Carter finishes it, we're curing your curse and sending Sam to New Rome in California. At least there, she'll be safe and live a long, happy life. It's for the best, for both of you."
I stayed quiet and refused to face Percy. I was so angry at him that I didn't want to see his stupid face.
Percy sighs, "We best head back to Camp, everyone. We don't want to alert the monsters of our presence and lead them to us."
As Percy ordered everyone to get ready to head back, I started to get a strong tingling from my Spider-Sense.
And it was a big one.
"Percy…"
"Not now, Estelle," Percy replied.
I tried to warn him of the coming danger, but he wasn't listening. The Spider-Sense was getting stronger.
"Percy!" I yelled.
"Not now!"
"Something's coming! Something big!" I said.
Just as Percy was about to reply, sharp quilled feathers were launched between us. A large figure flew above us and as we all looked up, we saw our deadly neighborhood harpy, The Vulture.
Percy cursed.
The Vulture lands on top of a water tower nearby and chuckles.
"Well, well, well…" She said, "Looks like the rat took the bait…"
"What?" Percy said.
"Crap! I forgot! The reason we were attacked earlier was because-"
"We wanted you, Jackson."
We turned around and I saw Scorpion climbing up to the roof with his tail out. The Minotaur was right behind him and climbed up, with his bare hands. The trio surrounded us and we all huddled at the center.
"Estelle, Sam, stay back," Percy ordered. "We got this."
"It's not them we should worry about…" I said as I focused more toward a taller behind.
The three monsters weren't the big threat she sensed.
They were his pawns.
"Estelle?" Hazel said as she saw me. Everyone looked at where I was facing and up above was a man walking toward us. I couldn't get a good look at his face, for he was wearing a greek helmet and armor. But he was pretty tall and bulky, like Vincent D'onofrio in Daredevil.
But what I think terrified Percy and the others the most is that the monsters are bowing to this man, who is also holding a trident. You know, a trident. A big fork that you tend to see in pictures of… Poseidon… Oh, that's not good. I recall how in the meeting at Camp, Chiron informed them how Poseidon, Percy's dad and the god of the sea, got his butt whooped by the father of all monsters.
Typhon.
"...You…" he said, looking directly at Percy. We were all shaking in fear because this guy, despite being very weakened and mortal-looking, was able to beat Poseidon on his own turf; gave these three monsters special abilities AND they bow down to him.
If that's not a red flag, I don't know anymore.
"Typhon…" Percy said. He draws his sword out, so does everyone else.
Typhon replied, "We finally meet, at last. The man who freed me from my prison."
"What?!" I said. "You freed him?!"
"By accident!" He replied.
Typhon smirked, "As a reward for freeing me, Percy Jackson. I'll let you live. As for your friends, however…" He looked toward his minions and nodded at them. They all got up and went into an attack stance.
"...Are not up for discussion."
Author's Note:
*TFS Nappa walks into my office*
Nappa: AUTHOR! WHAT DOES THE FANFICTION WEBSITE SAY ABOUT OUR VIEWING LEVELS?!
Author: Huh? Oh, let me check. It wouldn't be a lot but- NANI?!
Nappa: WHAT?
Author:…IT'S OVER 9000!
Hi everyone, just a quick update but rest assured, the next chapter is coming. The Writing is done, just waiting on the editing and making sure it's good. Just a heads up though, it's a bit shorter than the usual 2.5K words but it should be emotional(ish). I just want to say thank you for the 9k views on this story on Fanfiction as well as the 4K views on AO3. I have never gotten this much views in just a short amount of time but it motivates me to be better. I hope that once I make my own official original book series in the future that I can continue working on this fan series.
Also, I like to ask you something. You see there were some scenes I wanted to write but I felt like it would be out of place but I can't get it off my head so I want to ask, would you like to see a "Deleted Scenes" or "Bloopers" afterwards? Like Rush Hour where they show bloopers after the movie.
Also, I have plans to make a three-story series focusing on Samantha Stacy where she would go anime-like journeys and get involved with a Japanese-American Valkyrie and Lucas Stone (Sadie and Walt's adopted son). It'll involve the Angels, Demons and The Cult of the Cosmos along with a bit of Chinese Mythology. It will also include a tournament arc because it's not anime without a tournament arc. I already planned out who the final villain is but I won't spoil it. There will be a lot of references and inspirations from: Jojo's Bizarre Adventures; Bleach; Naruto; and Dragon Ball Z. If you have seen these anime's, that's good. If not, that's okay.
For now though I will be focused on Estelle's story. This three-story series is something that has been eating at me since No Way Home and after Across the Spiderverse, I got even more motivated.
So again, thank you all for your supports and comments and all in-between. Next chapter should arrive soon this week or next week.
TFS Nappa: And if you want to really hasten it, leave a small donation of-
Author: SHUT IT, NAPPA!
TFS Nappa: But we need it!
Author: And who's fault was it for ripping off the writers for Skygina 3?!
TFS Nappa: I gave them a fair wage.
Author: YOU THREATENED THEIR LIVES!
TFS Nappa: But they lived, right?
Author: Oh, God damn it, Nappa!
Anyways, thank you all and until the next update. Also, would you like to see more of these little funny skits of me being involved in the Team Four Star universe? Specifically, Nappa? I did it in my Caleo One-Shot series and I kind of enjoy it.
