Chapter 16: Rooftop Rumble with Monsters!

This day sucks. Why? Is it because before we got ambushed, a second time mind you; Because I was in a heated argument with my brother who always supported me? The fact that I was used as bait to get to Percy? The fact that my brother doesn't actually believe in me?

No, it's because it's a little humid today. OF COURSE IT'S BECAUSE OF ALL THAT!

Sorry, as you can see, I'm having a terrible day right now and the night is still young. Anyways, we're all struggling against these monsters. Annabeth and Hazel are dealing with Scorpion while Frank and Sam deal with Vulture. Percy and I on the other hand, are dealing with the big brute of the group. Or to put it bluntly, Percy is protecting me from the Minotaur.

ROAR

The Minotaur roared as he chased us to an unfinished construction site.

"Stay back, Estelle!" He said.

"I can fight this guy, Percy!"

As Percy and I argue, The minotaur grabbed a metal bar and threw it at us. I jumped up by instinct and shot a web at Percy and lifted him up to dodge it. I may not be as experienced as my brother in bullfighting, but my spider-senses make up for it. Especially since it saved Percy from getting crushed.

The minotaur and Percy have history with each other. As you recall, Percy said that he fought the Minotaur several times. The first time they fought, Percy got unconscious and the Minotaur took mom, but he did take one of his horns; The second time was when he was 16 years old and fought him on a bridge; Percy won that fight easily.

So yeah, they got beef with each other.

"JACKSON!" Minotaur roar.

He should have a name, right? Like what should we call him? Mino? Taur? Taurus? I'll think of something. Anyways, Percy replied.

"Now you can talk, big guy? I always thought you had the brain of a walnut."

Minotaur replied, "Father has given me a powerful weapon. A conscious."

I scoffed, "You can talk, sure. But that doesn't make you smart. You're about as intelligent as a rat."

The minotaur charges at us. He was relentless at us. He kept going with all of his strength. Percy and I kept dodging his attacks and he ended up hitting either the floor or the pillars. Probably not a good idea, right?

Think about it, we're fighting at a construction site of an unfinished building. If Bullhead here breaks the pillars…

"Percy! Don't you think we should avoid fighting here? If we keep this up, the whole site will come crumbling down like Jenga!" I said.

Percy replied, "That's the plan! I'll hold him off! You get Sam and get out of here!"

"Oh come on, Percy! We both know you can't fight Bullhorn here alone! You need support! I can fight! I can-"

"NO!" Percy yelled. "I'm not losing anyone from this bastard, again! Now go!"

I grunted in anger but as soon as I could charge in to help Percy, Vulture swooped in and grabbed me from behind.

"Vulture?!" I yelled.

"Miss me, Estelle Blofis?!"

"Hardly!" I punched her in the face as she let go of me, mid-air.

Yeah, not my best plan.

As you recall. I'm still learning how to use my web shooters. So, in other words, if I don't learn how to use my web shooters quickly, I'll fall to my death.

"Come on, web shooters! Don't fail me now!" I yelled as I aimed my wrist towards one of the bars on the building.

THWIP

A web was shot and luckily hit its marker. I started swinging back to the construction site and was about to land safely, until I collided with a giant bear mid-air.

I groan as I get back up.

"Frank?!" I said. "What are you doing?!"

The bear transformed into Frank as he groaned in pain.

"Sorry, the Minotaur has quite a strength."

Percy comes flying down toward us as the Minotaur walks towards us.

"I thought this'd be easy for you, Percy."

"I was a teen at the time!"

We all got up as the minotaur walked toward us with a giant pillar as a blunt weapon.

"Any more ideas?!" I said.

"I got one," Frank suggested. "But, I don't know if this will work."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I've been working on something with my abilities. Since I am able to transform into a dragon… I've been experimenting."

"Wait, you can turn into a dragon?! Why not do that instead?"

Percy replied, "It won't be strong enough against the big guy here."

"Okay then, Frank, what's the plan?" I said. "Get angry?"

Frank chuckled, "Not exactly."

The minotaur charges forward and lunges the metal bar at us. But Frank caught it with his bare hands.

How?

Simple.

He became a monster himself. Specifically, a minotaur.

"HOLY SHI-" I yelled as Frank threw a punch at him.

"Frank?!" Percy said.

Frank turned around and replied.

"It's still me, Percy."

"Since when can you turn into monsters?!"

"I've been testing my abilities to see if I'm able to. So far, I'm able to be a couple of monsters, the Minotaur included."

"That's freaking awesome!" I said.

"Would be… if I can control it…" Frank grunted and transformed back to himself, "Being a monster takes a heavy toll and makes me go berserk."

Ugh, of course there's a downside! What is this, an anime plot convenience?!

"Estelle, get Sam and get out of here! Now!" Percy yelled.

Before I could reply, The Vulture swooped in and took Percy.

"Percy!" I yelled.

"Stella!" I turned around and saw Sam running towards us. "You guys okay?!"

Frank nodded, "Yeah, just having problems with this guy here."

Bulls-Horn here got up quickly and charged toward us. We all dodge but I used my web shooters and fired a web at one of his arms. He stopped charging and I attempted to pull him with the web, but it broke down quickly.

"I thought these webs were supposed to be strong!"

He lunged a punch at me, but I dodged it and fired a web at his face, blinding him. Frank fires an arrow at his leg while Sam went low and stabbed the other with her broken spear. He kneels down and that gives me the opportunity to strike. I ran forward, got on top of his knee and jumped. I took out my knife and stabbed the minotaur in the eyes. He roars in pain and pushes me away. As he flails in anger, Frank transforms once again into a rhino and charges at him.

"Stella! We need to go! Now!" Sam suggested.

"But-"

"No time! Hazel needs help against Scorpion! Annabeth is helping Percy deal with Vulture right now. Let's go!"

Frank transforms back and replies, "Go! I got this! Help Hazel out!"

We nodded and ran to help Hazel against Scorpion. She's holding up well but she's struggling. "Tempest!" I yelled. Tempest appeared from thin air and Sam and I hopped on and flew up towards a neighboring building that has a water tower on it; Scorpion and Hazel are fighting on the roof but Hazel is struggling. Just as Scorpion was about to throw the final kill, Sam and I jumped and kicked him by the face, forcing him to back off.

"You'll pay for that, chica!" He said.

"Can you stop with the crappy accent?!" I yelled. I fired a web at him but he fired acid at it.

"What is wrong with my freaking webs?!"

Scorpion jumps toward us but we all dodge him.

It's been like this, always jumping from one enemy to another; neither side is breaking nor backing down. I got to admit, these guys are relentless; Bullhead and Pigeon-girl I understand, they got vendettas with Percy. But Scorpion? What does he get out of this?

"So, Miguel. What do you get out of this? I mean, you seem to be doing fine with your operation. Why come out and get your hand dirty in public?"

Scorpion scoffed and replied, "Not much, I got paid to help out. And I got a little upgrade as a bonus. But hey, at least I can get a couple good snacks along the way."

I shivered at what he was saying.

He needs to die. Now.

The three of us kept attacking him with our weapons and abilities. But he was agile and strong. Scorpion manages to avoid our attacks and still manages to counter with his stinger or acid. I tried to tangle or bind him to my webs, but for some reason they just kept breaking easily.

"Why are they not working?!" I yelled. "I thought webs were supposed to be as strong as steel bars!"

Hazel replied. "Considering that your web shooters are magic marks on your wrist, it's possible that they resonate with you, either emotionally or spiritually."

"In other words, she needs to have a fighting spirit?!" Sam said.

"Now's not the time for anime reference, Sam!" I yelled.

"Just be glad I'm not making any Jojo's Reference!" Sam replied.

Scorpion launches his stinger at me but I grab it before he can stab me. Hazel and Sam charged at him, but he instead lifted his stinger along with me and launched me towards them.

We were on the defense for a while now, we all ended up banding together as the monsters surrounded us near the base of the construction site.

"Okay… anyone got any good ideas?" I asked.

"Annabeth?" Percy said.

"Working on it!"

As the monsters continued to draw closer towards us, Typhon spoke.

"ENOUGH!" He yelled, slamming the trident to the ground.

He jumped down from the second floor of the unfinished building and walked towards us.

"I shall deal with them, myself. Do not interfere."

Vulture and the Minotaur bowed and backed off. Scorpion chuckled and shrugged.

"Okay… just one guy this time. Can't be that hard, right?" I said.

Annabeth replied, "Normally, yes. But, Typhon managed to defeat Posiedon in his own turf and took his Trident. Even in that weak state, he shouldn't have been able to do that."

"In other words, he has something up his sleeve," Sam continued. "He may have some sort of technique or a weapon that gives him an advantage against gods or rather…"

"... those with godly blood," Annabeth finished.

Huh, are all children of Athena tactical geniuses?

"Okay, Sam, use that big brain of yours and tell us what's our best play," Annabeth said. Sam nodded and faced Typhon. Annabeth knew

"Well… we know that Typhon defeated Poseidon and took his Trident. But why is that? If he has some technique that gives an advantage against us, why does he need the Trident?"

"Maybe to show off his victory?" Percy replied.

"No… it's possible that he needed the Trident for something. Most likely it's a tool needed for something important. Like some sort of ingredient for a spell."

I frowned.

"Since when did you become an expert?!"

Sam shrugged, "While you were getting checked by the Kanes; I was reading some scrolls and books to understand more about the world of mythology."

Annabeth replied, "How many did you read?"

"...About fifty."

In one day?! Never underestimate an Otaku who can binge watches One Piece in a month.

"Perceptive one, she is," Typhon replied. "But yes, and the last ingredient that is required is the blood of the owner of the Trident. Unfortunately, that is impossible to retrieve. But not from one of his offspring."

"Wait a minute…" Hazel said. "I know what he needs! He's going to invade Olympus by destroying the barrier that protects it!"

Ah, I did recall that Percy said that after the Second Titan War, they managed to form a magical barrier to help prevent any more invasions. Why Poseidon and Percy's blood is required is beyond me.

"Let's just focus on stopping this guy," I said.

As Typhon walked toward us, he flicked his finger and suddenly, a magical barrier expanded from him.

The barrier went past us and just as it did, everyone was falling down, groaning in pain.

"Guys?!" I said. "What's wrong?"

"I don't know, it's like… I'm losing my strength all of a sudden."

As I looked back at Typhon I noticed that his bracers were shining all of a sudden.

"I-it's those bracers!" Annabeth said. "They're the source of his advantage."

Typhon scoffed, "You are correct, daughter of Athena. These bracers were engraved with magic that is said to weaken those with godly blood."

So that's how he was able to defeat Poseidon. That also means that Percy and the others are unable to fight with their all against Typhon. The barrier works like a domain expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen or magical barriers in Black Clover or any other kind of anime barrier. Basically, it can only affect those within range that meets its requirements. Specifically, those with godly bloods.

And guess what.

I'm no Half-Blood.

Typhon scoffed, "The magic is not affecting you. Why is that?"

I picked up Percy's sword along with my knife.

"I'm no Half-Blood."

"I see… Then you won't be much of a challenge then."

Typhon puts the tip point of the trident down on the ground and binds it to the floor. It seems he will be fighting with his bare hands.

That irritated me because he's underestimating me.

"Estelle… run!" Percy said, groaning as he can't seem to get back up.

"I got this, Percy. Just trust me; I'll beat Typhon and get the Trident back."

Percy and everyone was telling me to run or that it's too dangerous, but I ignored them. I'm tired of being treated as someone that needed protection. I can fight too.

I can be strong just like Percy.

Besides, Typhon is weakened at the moment. He can't be that hard, right?
