Chapter 26: A Rematch That Shook The Heavens, Literally.
Only a couple more blocks before I can reach the Empire State Building. Percy says the only entrance to Olympus won't allow mortals like me to enter. However, since the barrier is down, I should be able to just fly up there. However, I need a ride.
And there's only one spirit that I know can give me a lift.
"Tempest!" I yelled as I swung across buildings. I'm starting to understand why the other Spider-Men love doing this. It's really thrilling and fun; so long as you don't run out of webs. I still recall that scene in the second Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire where he runs out of webs suddenly and falls on top of a building. Then there's that one scene where he fell on top of a car.
I felt that.
Anyways, as I was getting closer to Olympus, I landed at a building nearby the skyscraper. I called Tempest once more, hoping he's nearby. Luckily, he was as I heard him neigh out in the distance. I look ahead and spot him flying past buildings and towards me. I'm glad he's close by, but it still raises the question. Why is he always nearby? Horses are always free-spirited creatures, so why is he always staying near my location?
"Hey Tempest, I need your help. Think you can give me a lift up to Olympus?" I asked Tempest. Meanwhile, thunder and lightning were becoming more active above. It seems that the gods are really putting up a fight against Typhon. Tempest was frightened by the noise, but I calmed him down.
"I know boy, it's scary. But I need to do this. I'm the only one who can save them and I need your help. Please?"
Tempest calms a bit and looks at me; finally, he neighs in agreement and allows me to climb on him. He dashes high above the skies like a plane ready for takeoff. It's a good thing I was wearing a mask, otherwise I'll be feeling the whiplash on the wind.
Meanwhile, the situation in the throne room was not looking good for the gods. Ares and Athena were barely standing up to Typhon as they were armed and ready to strike. However, thanks to the bracers, they barely have the strength to wield their weapons. Ares tries to lift his spear at Typhon, but the weakened god is on his knee and Typhon kicks him.
"Ares!" Athena yells. She swings her sword at Typhon, but he catches it and threw both her and her weapon towards Ares.
Behind Typhon, several gods had already fallen, but a few were still fighting in front of him. Apollo and Artemis put some distance between them and his barrier and used their bows and arrows to strike him down. However, even their weapons were ineffective once the arrows were in range of his barrier. They lose their magic enhancements once within and become powerless against Typhon's physical body. Even weakened as a mortal, he still has inhuman physique traits. And let's not forget, Typhon still has Poseidon's Trident.
Typhon aims the trident at Apollo and Artemis and a huge wave of water crashes towards them.
"Pathetic," Typhon replies. The only ones left standing were none other than the big three themselves, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. However, without his Trident, Poseidon was not at full strength but he was not one to bow down in defeat.
"You will pay for your crimes, Typhon!" Zeus yelled.
"Crimes? For simply wanting to live freely? For loving a woman who accepts me? For avenging MY children that YOUR kind have murdered?!"
Typhon summons another wave towards them, but Zeus slashes through with his lightning bolt. However, he gave himself an opening as Typhon threw the Trident at Zeus' arm and it disarmed him of his lightning bolt. Afterwards, before Zeus can react, Typhon charges at Zeus head on and grabs him by the neck. Hades and Poseidon charged an attack but they were already within his range. Typhon uses Zeus and slams him toward his brothers. However, Hades held up and stood back up quickly. Typhon was aware but wasn't bothered as Hades went on the offensive and tried to take him out by himself. Typhon was not amused and used his free hand and smacked towards one of the thrones. Poseidon gets back up as he reclaims the Trident and Zeus's Lightning Bolt and jumps at Typhon. He managed to actually land a hit on him but it was only a small scratch. Even the most powerful weapons of the gods were useless against such a simple magic barrier.
This alone worries the gods.
"All that for a drop of blood?" Typhon says as he kicks Poseidon, making him fly off across the room. And with that, the last remaining god standing was Zeus. Typhon lifts him up by the neck and proceeds to strangle him.
"This is for my Echidna. For my children. For all the crimes YOU committed!"
Zeus is a god so he wouldn't need to breathe. However, the barrier weakens him to a mortal-like state. Zeus tries to fight back but Typhon is heavily built and his hits are doing nothing to him.
This could be the end of Zeus.
"Hey! Kingpin!"
Typhon turned around and spotted me swinging towards him.
"Don't get ahead of yourself!" I yelled as I threw a broken statue head of Zeus at him. It landed a direct hit at him, making him drop Zeus. I swung past them and fired a wip at Zeus to pull him out of Typhon's range.
"You alright?" I asked Zeus.
He coughs as he regains his breath and looks up at me.
"Who are you?"
Before I could answer, Athena gets up and groans.
"You reek of… Arachne's magic," Athena replied.
"Uh, long story, for now just know that I'm on your side. And I'm here to send this creep back behind bars."
Typhon growls in frustration, "You have been a thorn to my plans, Estelle!"
"Wait… Estelle? Estelle Blofis?!" Poseidon says as he gets up.
I scoffed at Typhon, "Sorry, Typhon, but you're not fighting Estelle Blofis. You're fighting me, New York's Friendly Neighborhood, Spider-Girl!"
Typhon roars as he picks up the Trident and charges at me. I shot a web at the ceiling and swung upward to do a swing kick at Typhon while avoiding his charge. I then fired another and dashed towards him with a punch. He staggered for a second but then went on the offensive. Thanks to my training and my Spider-Sense, I was able to dodge most of his attacks. I can't really block them though since, his punches felt like a bus running you over. As I dodge his attacks, I would fire a web shot at him and try to tangle him up and slow him down. Sometimes Typhon would either use his hand to punch me or slam me to the ground and other times he would use the Trident's abilities to knock me away. When that happens, I'd just swing away before the waves hit me. How those waves of water even come from still baffles me. I just assumed it's either from the forming of water vapor in the sky or it's just plain magic.
"Come on, Typhon! A little spider like me should be easy to squash! What, need a magical newspaper to swat me?"
"Why would I need that when I have this?!" Typhon yelled as he reached down for… ah crapbasket. He has the Lightning Bolt.
He aims it at me and fires.
BOOM
A loud, thunderous noise was made as lightning was fired at me. Luckily I dodge it but barely. If I delayed it for even a second, I'd be dead.
"Oh wow! Is that the new Bug Zapper? My mom needed a new one."
I swing around to avoid his blasts, waiting to get an opening.
"Wow, Typhon! A ten year old has better aim in Call of Duty than you with the Lightning Bolt!"
"ENOUGH!" He yelled as he fired another lightning strike at me. I dodged and fired a web at him, dashing towards him with a front kick. It staggered him so I went behind him and webbed up his hands from behind and then slammed him to the ground by using another thread of webs fired to the ground.
The classic web-slam.
I look behind and see Athena and Artemis assisting Zeus and Poseidon.
"Get out of here! I'll handle him!"
"You dare order me?" Zeus says.
"You want to deal with him? In your condition?" I replied.
Before Zeus could reply, Athena spoke, "My lord, we are no match to deal with Typhon, not with his new obtained magic. We must rely on this mortal, for now."
That's Athena for you, the wisest of them all. No wonder she's Sam's mom.
Suddenly, Typhon gets back up and grabs me. He threw me off but I landed safely. I shot a web at the now dropped Lightning Bolt. I know Spider-Man doesn't kill, but if I'm going to go up against Typhon with a godly weapon then I'm going to need a godly weapon of my own. It's funny if you think about it. A long time ago, this little thing was my brother's first quest. Now, it's my only chance to gain an advantage against him. However, his magical bracers are the main threat. If I can find a way to take those off of him, he won't stand a chance.
Like that's going to be easy.
Anyways, I continue on the offensive and try to wear down Typhon. I keep tangling him with my webs and swing around to avoid his attacks, but for a mortal god he's very durable.
I went in for another web-dash kick but he caught me by the leg and threw me at a wall. He threw me so hard, the wall collapsed and I was outside on a balcony.
I groaned in pain, "Hey, if you just wanted to go out, you could've said so."
Typhon walks out with the Trident, "I'm going to enjoy breaking you, mortal."
I chuckled, "Ain't the first time you failed."
Typhon slams the Trident on the ground, binding it to the ground. I guess he wants to finish me off with his own hands.
"Oh, you're not going to use your magical fork to take me out?"
"No…" Typhon replied as he charged at me. I dodged by jumping above him but he stopped midway and turned around, flailing his arm so he could reach me and hit me.
WHAM
He hit me and I was sent flying and collided with a pillar. As I was getting up, my spidey-sense was tingling and I rolled to the side as I saw Typhon slams to the ground where I was. I got up quickly and fired a web shot at his face. He starts to rip the web off his face and I proceed to launch a barrage of punches and kicks at him, hoping to take him out. Finally, I launched a powerful uppercut punch, knocking him down. This gave me the opportunity to take out those bracers. I went to one of his bracers on the left (my left) and tried to pull it off his arm. However, Typhon managed to get up and grabbed me.
"Pesky insect!" He yelled. I yelped as I was once again sent flying, though this time no collision to any pillars or wall.
Looks like taking out those bracers or even Typhon is not going to be a walk in the park. Hopefully, Percy and the others can take out the ritual and bring back the barrier soon. As well as Leo managed to hold off the monsters until the job was done.
For now… I'm on my own.
I sigh and replied, "How many times do I gotta say it, spiders are arachnids!"
