Chapter 29: I Made Them An Offer They Couldn't Refuse.

I sigh in relief as I see Percy flying down with Blackjack, his pegasus, and land where I was.

"Estelle!" He yelled as he got off and ran towards me. "You're okay!"

He hugged me tightly and the pain came back.

"Ow ow ow ow ow! Percy!" I yelled, Percy let go and apologized.

"Sorry, are you okay?"

"I'm fine… just got a few broken bones… probably?"

"BROKEN BONES?!" Percy yelled.

I probably shouldn't have said that, but I can't lie, everything hurts. Plus, I had my mask off as soon as Percy arrived and he can tell from my face that I took quite a beating. I mean, have you ever fought a mortal monster god head-on?

"I'll be fine, Percy," I said, reassuring him after he scolded me. "I just need some rest and I'll be back to normal… maybe."

Before Percy could reply, another voice spoke behind him.

"He has every reason to be worried, Estelle Blofis."

Percy turned around and we met a man with shaggy hair and a scruffy beard, wearing a Hawaiian shirt and khaki shorts and blue sandals.

I think we all know who this guy is.

"Lord Poseidon, I assume?" I said. I walked up toward him, holding out the Trident to him, "I believe this belongs to you?"

Poseidon chuckled, "A Jackson returning a powerful weapon to its rightful owner? Seems history does repeat itself."

"Speaking of, tell Zeus that I'm sorry, I had to use the Lightning Bolt for a bit to fight back Typhon," I replied.

Poseidon scoffed, "Well, after everything that happened, I'm sure he will let it slide. And if not, he'll have to go through me."

"Oh?" I smirked, "A god being an overprotective dad? Now I DEFINITELY saw everything."

Poseidon laughs.

"She is just like your mother, Percy. And quite frankly, I can't tell if that's a good thing."

I laughed and hugged him, "It's good to finally meet Percy's dad!"

Percy freaked out and told me to stop, "Estelle! That's Poseidon! A god! You gotta pay respect."

"Oh don't be such a worrywart. I'm just hugging our godly dad!"

"Our's?!" Percy yelled.

Poseidon and I laughed. I can tell that Poseidon and I are going to get along real nicely. Percy sighs in relief as he finally accepts that things are good.

"If you are finished, brother, we have some important issues to discuss."

We all turned at the edge and saw Zeus, with his white hair and beard and wearing a suit.

"While Typhon may have been defeated, he still managed to get away."

"What?!" I yelled as I ran by his side to see for myself. I look down and saw an empty crater. "OH COME ON!"

Typhon has gotten away.

There's no way… Typhon couldn't have possibly survived that fall. Right? I don't see any dust nor blood splattered there; he couldn't have got up and walked away.

I sigh in frustration.

At least his death won't be on my conscience.

Still.

He's out there now…

Waiting.

Healing.

Plotting.

But he won't get far; and even if he did, we stopped him before. We can do it again.

Zeus continued, "Not to mention, he destroyed our greatest source of protection for Olympus. And let's not forget that several monsters escaped, along with that manticore, Scorpion."

I cursed in silence.

It's bad enough that Typhon got away, but Scorpion too? Ugh, New York is filled with weirdos. It'll take forever to find him. And then there's Olympus; after all the hard work Percy and the others have done to undo the ritual, Olympus STILL loses its source of security.

"We'll need to have Annabeth rebuild the magic barrier, along with restoring the damages that were caused in the battle," Poseidon implied. "Then there's the issue with security. We can't have the Hunters protect it all the time since they will be going after Typhon; and most of our soldiers are wounded."

Zeus answered, "We could have the demigods in camp take over in the meantime. They are always asking for glory. We can simply have them watch over New York and ensure no-one threatens Olympus."

Poseidon and Percy disagreed immediately and argued with Zeus. They believe that the demigods deserve to live out their lives the way they want to. As they argue, I look at the crater and then above Olympus.

After this whole week of one crazy event after another. Then, I recall that wall… the wall filled with the names of many brave heroes who never got to come home. Never got the chance to be… happy. So many good people, mostly kids, died for the gods; for the world… It's time I repay that debt.

"...I'll do it," I said.

Everyone stopped arguing and looked at me.

"What?!" Percy yelled.

"I lived in New York my whole life, I know every crook and cranny this place has. I may not be able to protect Olympus all the time, but I can make it easier for your guards to focus there while I protect the city."

"No way!" Percy replied. "You just finished your Sophomore year. You still have two more years of High School; plus there's your curse! We still-"

I interrupted Percy, "First, don't worry about school. I'm still going to school, I'll just patrol around New York when I'm off school. We'll think of it as a part-time job. And Second, I'm keeping it, Percy. This may have been a curse, but I'm going to use it to help others. Just like how you have in the past. This is my choice… My responsibility."

Percy stutters and sighs in frustration. He knows how stubborn I can be.

"It seems like an adequate plan," Zeus says. "Perhaps we-"

"Hold on! I have conditions though," I said. "Before that, you must swear on the River Styx that you will accept these terms and follow through, no matter what. Understand?"

Zeus frowns, "You dare to make a deal with me? Did you forget who I am?"

"You couldn't have fought Typhon on your own. After all, he had those magical bracers that weakened you to a mortal-state. If I wasn't there, you'd be dead; which is why I have these," I pull out my hands and reveal the magical bracers.

"Y-you retrieve them?" Zeus asked.

"Yeah… and out of good faith and complete trust, I'm handing them to you." I hand them over to Zeus, "Trust is a two-way street and I know you gods wouldn't break that, right?"

I know… I know… I was told how the gods tend to break their promises. So I'm going to hit them right at their weaknesses.

Their pride.

"I mean, you are THE Zeus, right? The God of Lightning? Ruler of Olympus? The god that defeated the Titans? A mighty, powerful and noble god like you wouldn't break a promise to a mortal teenage child? Right?"

Zeus frowns, "You know… the funny thing is… I know you're playing me…"

I smirked. Zeus sighs and swears on the River Styx.

"Name your condition, Estelle Blofis."

"First, obviously, you can not summon me during school hours. As much as I love to fight monsters and bad guys, I have to graduate. That means I will be unavailable to patrol the city for a few hours."

"Seems reasonable; we can arrange some men to patrol in the meantime," Poseidon replied.

"Good, as for my second condition. I want you to ease up on quests' difficulties for the kids back in Camp Half-Blood. Don't give them impossible tasks unless they are truly capable of handling it AND coming back, alive. And don't make it a big deal for little things; if it's within my level, I can handle it. I mean, after all, I did fight the God of Monsters and live."

I know that seems impossible as Gods tend to not get involved much in the mortal world, but every bit helps. If there's even a 1% chance to increase the survival rate, then it's worth something.

"...A bit difficult but it should be capable. I'm well aware of how the other gods tend to be… melodramatic on their quests. Nevertheless, it shall be done," Zeus replied.

"And lastly… come and visit camp once a while. The kids are out there fighting for their lives just to impress you guys. The least you can do is show up once a while and support them."

Zeus frowns, "We can not get too involved, Estelle Blofis. Our interaction could-"

"I'm not saying you should be there all the time, just show up and… give them assurance that they are doing well. Let them know that what they do truly matters. they may be demigods, but they're also children. They work hard to get your attention; the least you can do is meet them half-way."

Zeus grumbled but finally nodded in agreement.

"It shall be done, Estelle Blofis," Poseidon replied. "Though we will have to limit visitations and how many of us can come and visit at the same time."

"Every bit helps," I said.

"Hold on," Percy intervened, "After you fought several experienced deadly monsters, Typhon and nearly fell to your death just to retrieve the Trident, not to mention you broke some bones in the process and all you ask is a part-time job and the Gods' child support?"

I snickered at his comment.

"I mean… You guys are always saving the world. The least I can do is help make a demigod's life more at ease and less dangerous. Even if it's only a little, it helps."

"But… why?" Poseidon asked.

I shrugged and replied, "These last few days, I learned just how much Percy suffered in the past. He's always giving his all to everyone. He has done so much so…"

Poseidon smiles. He was always proud of how much Percy has done for those close to him. Even though he is a god, he always dreams of a life with him and Mom.

"...I want to be like him, a hero who never gives up and protects his home. But also, I want to help people, especially Percy and everyone back in Camp."

Zeus responded, "Very well, Estelle Blofis. I will accept these terms and conditions. However, you best keep your end of the deal as well. Betray us and you will regret it."

I chuckled and patted Zeus at his back. This gave Percy and Poseidon a panic attack.

"Oh lighten up, Uncle Zeus. We're family! No need to be so formal and scary!"

Zeus grumbled as I walked over to Poseidon and Percy.

"Still," Percy interrupted before things got worse, "You need to tell this to Mom and Paul. They still don't know much about you having a curse. You can't just come home and not tell them anything."

I totally forgot, mom and dad don't even know. I may be Spider-Girl, but I will not make the same mistakes as the other Spider-Men. My parents have every right to know what happened. However, I'm not sure they're going to accept me having a job. They want me to live out my youth since they never got the chance in the past.

I shrugged, "I'm sure I can work something out."

"Perhaps I can visit them and explain the situation?" Poseidon asked. "Afterall, it was my fault that she got caught up in this mess."

I sigh in relief.

"I'd appreciate that, Poseidon. You know mom, we get our stubbornness from her."

"On that I agree," Poseidon said.

"Well, I better get going now, I promise Sam that I'd tell her everything afterwards. Which reminds me, how's the Green Mist going to cover up that mess over there?" I asked, referring to the crater on the street.

Poseidon pondered and replied, "Hard to say, lately the Green Mist is losing its grip on the mortal's eyes. It's getting difficult to hide our world from them. I'd say the mortals would have seen something extreme and difficult to explain."

"So, there's a good chance the people of New York saw me with this outfit then, right?" I asked.

"Perhaps, why?"

"Because a few helicopters are heading this way and I refused to be interviewed," I said as I put on my mask and started walking towards the edge. Helicopters started to arrive at our position, mostly news reporters and police helicopters. "Well, I'll leave this to you guys."

"Wait!" Percy yelled. "You're leaving the mess to us?! Estelle! What are we supposed to say?!"

I snickered.

"Tell them that a few bad guys were trying to blow the Empire State Building. I was there to stop them."

"You want us to tell them that a teenage girl fought several armed thugs on her own?" Poseidon said.

"Nope… not just any teenage girl…"

THWIP

I fired a web to the nearest and made my exit.

"Your Friendly Neighborhood, Spider-Girl!"
