"The year was 1944. Humanity's battle against the mysterious Neuroi continued to intensify. Yoshika and Yoshiki Miyafuji set out for Britannia with Major Mio Sakamoto in order to uncover the mystery of their father's disappearance. As their month long voyage nearing it's end the Neuroi attacked. The 501st Joint Fighter Wing the 'Strike Witches' is in route from Britannia to try to rescue the fleet."

Chapter 2
That Which We Can Do
"All ships, break formation but remain in sections at maximum speed incase of action." A soldier on The Akagi's intercom called out as the Neuroi continued to fire at ships.
On the Akagi a captain starts to question stuff, "Dam it! Why don't those bastards hurry up and finish us off?"
A soldier speaks up, "Maybe they enjoy taking us apart piece by piece captain?" he asked.
"Prepare all fighter squadrons for takeoff now. It's time to show those alien scum that we're not gotten give up without a serious fight" the captain order, "Sir!" the sailor said.
In the sickbay, Yoshika and Yoshiki are sitting on a bed with their hands on their ears and both shivering. As the door opened, showed Mio coming in and saw the twins.
"Miyafujis." she said.
Yoshika and Yoshiki looked up and to her as Mio walked up to the twins, "I won't have that. Get that fear out of your eyes, you at sea now, young lady and gentleman, a war." she said, "Sorry, it's just that the shaking doesn't ever stop." Yoshika and Yoshiki said, "You get used to it." Mio said as she bend over, "Here I need you two to look up at me for a minute." she said as Mio moved her hand through each of the twins' hair.
"Stay still." Mio said as she got close to Yoshika and Yoshiki faces as it showed there's an earpiece with a yellow star on it in each of the twins' ears.
"It's an intercom." Mio said as Yoshika and Yoshiki move to to where the intercoms in their ears, "Now you'll both be able to communicate to me whenever you two want with that in your ears okay." Mio continued.
"Okay." the twins say.
Mio stands up, "However you two should only use it if it's an emergency. Is that understood?" Mio asked the twins.
"Yes." Yoshika and Yoshiki said as the ship suddenly shook after another explosion.
"Well I should really be getting back up to the flight deck." Mio said.
"Major Sakamoto, um, are you going to fight them for real?" the twins asked.
"Of course I am. I have a duty, and I'm going to honor it." Mio said as Yoshika and Yoshiki stood up.
"What we. Should we just.." The twins start to say.
Mio, stop them, "You two should stay right here. Don't go outside no matter what happens." she said.
"What if.." Yoshika and Yoshiki start to say, but another explosion shook the ship.
"Are you two worried something is going to happen to me?" Mio asked, "Don't be scared, I'll be just fine." She responded and made her leave.
On the flight deck, Mio is in the Striker Unit she showed the twins followed by 16 planes, "Restrict 20 mili and 50 kel fire broadside are about to beat during takeoff all hands prepare to launch!" A soldier on The Akagi's intercom called out as the Neuroi flew over the Akagi, and the giant magic circle appeared, "Major Sakamoto prepared to launch!" Mio called as she and the planes took off.
The strange aircraft destroys another ship.
On the bridge of the Akagi, a sailor on the radio called "The destroyer Urakaze been hit no response!"
The captain got mad, "Forget it all units take off now!" he ordered.
As Mio and the planes flew, "The Neuroi can regenerate indefinitely unless their core is destroyed, all fighters draw their fire while I search for the core. Distance to track is 300. I'm on the ceiling." Mio said.
"Roger!" One the pilots said as the planes scatter.
The Neuroi fires at Mio, but it misses her as she flew over it, "There's less defenses up here." Mio said.
She tried to lift her eye patch but the Neuroi fires at Mio forcing her to put up a magic shield pushing her up higher.
"This thing like a porcupine, I can't even find a angle to try to look for the core!" Mio said.
Back on the bridge of the Akagi, a soldier got word, "Receiving incoming flight traffic from Britannia, 501st Joint Fighter Wing dispatched eta to your position 20 minutes."
The captain got mad, "Dam! We're so close. Order all ships to continue evasion maneuvers." he ordered.
In the sickbay, Yoshika and Yoshiki stood up and went to the porthole to see the battle.
"Major Sakamoto is out there." They said as the Neuroi continued to fire. "But we in here." the twins continued.
The ship was trembling from the amount of explosions. The thing that gained their attention were the medical supplies in glass jars and vials that were on the table, Yoshika and Yoshiki looked at each other, and the twins knew what to do. "Yoshiki, take whatever medical supplies you can and follow me." the female twin said as her brother nodded, "Right, and you grab those here, Yoshika." the male twin said as his sister nodded too, and they gathered the supplies in big bags and exited the infirmary.
Back outside, the Neuroi continued to fire at Mio as she put up another magic shield when she heard the twins through the intercom.
"Major Sakamoto, are you okay, Major?" they asked as she turned her head to see Yoshika and Yoshiki on the edge of the Akagi.
"What are you both doing out here? I told you both to stay put! Go back inside!" Mio shouted.
"Major Sakamoto, we're so glad that you haven't shot down!" the twins said.
"Miyafujis, I'm ordering you two to go back inside immediately. You two can't do any good out here. You're only get in the way!" Mio continued berating them.
"But we can't stand by and do nothing!" Yoshika and Yoshiki said.
"There is no time for this! Get back in sickbay before the both of you get somebody killed!" Mio insisted, and the twins could hear a click in the intercom.
"Major Sakamoto?! Major? Answer us!" they cried
'They're are ruthless little kids, but they certainly have a lot of heart. I better show the same.' Mio thought as she flew around the Neuroi as it destroyed another ship
"The Isokaze been hit." a pilot said.
Mio shoots at it, but she overheated the gun's barrel and discarded it. "Time to finish this!" Mio shouted as she drew her katana and rushed at the enemy. As she drew close, the blade glowed blue, and the hit connected.
A sudden blinding green flash was emitted from the place where the Neuroi got hit, and everyone looked at that spectacle with awe.
Suddenly, the light dimmed, and one could see that the right wing of the enemy craft got cut off in a storm of white flakes.
'Wow! that's how a witch fights.' Yoshika and Yoshiki thought.
But the wing started growing back fast.
Mio lifted her eye patch and saw a red orb of light. "Found it!" Mio said. Suddenly, the Neuroi shot several beams at her, and she put up another magic shield. The beam started to push her back, but the shield was somehow still up.
"Sakamoto!" the twins called an explosion thundered behind the backs of Yoshika and Yoshiki. They both turned back instantly and saw that smoke was coming from a turret. The crew was shouting frantically, but one word got through crystal clear.
A wounded soldier. His whole uniform was dirty and burned, and his whole abdomen was covered in blood.
"Hold on!" the twins called as they crouched down near him.
"We're going to help you!" Yoshika and Yoshiki said as the twins started to use their healing magic as the twins grew Mameshiba ears on their heads.
'Concentrate. Breathe.' Yoshika and Yoshiki thought.
The soldier started shaking in pain, but the twins continued healing him.
Suddenly, a sanitary came. "What are you two doing? Back off!" He said.
"Wait, we was trying to use some healing magic." The twins tried to explain.
"Are you two trying to tell me that you're witches?" the sanitary asked as he looked at the twins' hands, "Your powers are weak. I can do a better job without your magic. Stand back." The sanitary ordered them.
The twins' magic powered down, "No we have to be able to do something to help out!" the twins said.
"Don't be stupid. This is a slaughter kids there's no place for you two here. Get back down to sickbay." The sanitary order.
"We won't go! There must be something we can do?" Yoshika and Yoshiki asked.
The sanitary finally lost, "Fine kids bandages okay get as many as you two can carry and bring them here, got it?" The sanitary order.
The twins nodded, "Okay." they said.
With Mio, she is breathing heavily when a plane flew by her, "Major, we'll try to buy you some more time!" the pilot said as another plane flew by, "But just make sure you find that core you get me?" That pilot asked.
"I'm counting on you god speed Lieutenants." Mio said.
The planes flew off and she lifted her eye patch and sees the core again as the Neuroi starts to damage the planes and Mio puts up another magic shield as it shots at her, "You haven't won yet!" Moi shouted as the Neuroi went on full force as Mio yelled.
Back on the bridge of the Akagi, a soldier said to the captain, "All fighters are down except for Major Sakamoto sir." he said.
The captain banged his fist, "Dam! Where are our reinforcements? Can't those Strike Witches fly here any faster?" he asked.
A red light glowed, and a sudden explosion rattled the ship.
The Akagi took a direct hit. "That was too close. The next one will cripple us for sure." a soldier said, "She need to stay afloat till the carvery gets here." the captain said.
Below deck, the ship's rattled made Yoshika and Yoshiki dropped the bandages they were carrying, the twins reminisce what people was telling them through the Neuroi attack.
Yoshika and Yoshiki got up, 'We guess there's nothing we can do.' they thought.
Another sudden explosion rattled the ship. The Akagi took another direct hit, and everyone on deck panicked, and the twins screamed.
Mio saw this "The Akagi! Miyafujis. Miyafujis. Come in, Miyafujis. Miyafujis?" she said,
Yoshika and Yoshiki lay on the ground as Mio kept calling to the twins on their intercoms, but they were out cold until.
"Yoshika and Yoshiki. Yoshika and Yoshiki. Yoshika and Yoshiki." the twins heard their father.
"Daddy. We're sorry, we can't do anything." Yoshika and Yoshiki said but a vision of their father, "Yoshika and Yoshiki know that you two have great power inside the both of you just like your mother and grandmother, promise me that when you two grow up you'll use that power to protect everyone." it was the same words that the twins promise their father.
"Daddy." Yoshika and Yoshiki said as the twins woke up to see two pairs of Striker Units on two separate Launch Units the Striker Units were identical like the twins, as they stood up as their hands glow and both know what to do.
Back on the bridge of the Akagi, a soldier said to the captain, "Direct hit to the destroyer Tanikaze, no response!"
The captain had no choice, "Well, it looks like it's finally the end. Dam. All right men prepare to abandon ship." he said.
A solder spoke up, "All hands to abandon ship." he said when another spoke up. "What's this? Who gave that authorization?" he said.
The captain a confused look, "Huh?" he said as a group of soldiers looking out on the flight deck the elevator hatch is opened. A solder looks back at the captain, "Captain, there appears someone operating the central elevator!" he said as the captain walked up to the window, "What?" he asked.
It was Yoshika and Yoshiki in the Striker Units, and they were covered in a steam cloud, 'We have to do what we can!' The twins thought as it showed they already grown their Mameshiba ears and tails as the elevator brought them up, 'With ever power we have. We promise we'll protect everyone.' they finished their thoughts.
When the steam cloud slowly dissipated, a peculiar site was to be seen. Small brown haired identical twin girl and boy in identical Striker Units with each Type 99-2 Model 2 Kai handing on their backs, and a 3-drum sling hanging in front of them.
"Who are those?" the captain asked as he also saw the Striker Units on the twins' legs. "How can they equip Striker Units?" he also asked.
A soldier answered the first question, "Those are the twin girls that Major Sakamoto brought." he said since Mio kept Yoshiki's true name and gender a secret, "Their names are..." he said.
"Yoshika and Yoshimi Miyafuji!" the twins shouted.
On the bridge, the captain spoke up, "Miyafuji? As in Dr. Miyafuji?" he asked. Back with the twins, a magic circle bigger than the ships' width grew as the twins revved the Striker Units engine.
Back on the bridge, the solder said, "It can't be!"
Mio looks at the ship a gasp, "Miyafujis?" she asked.
The twins start to move, "Let's go!" Yoshika and Yoshiki shouted and launched with the speed of lightning.
The Neuroi attacked the Akagi, cleaving half of the bridge. It also shot at the twins, but thankfully, it missed, and only disrupted their start, making them do a flip.
"Pull up! You two got to pull up now!" the captain yelled at the twins from the damaged bridge as the twins fell off the deck, and they cried.
"Fly! Come on!" Mio yelled at Yoshika and Yoshiki, and they started to ascend like a bottle rocket.
The twins opened their eyes, "We're.. We're flying! We can fly!" They called out.
Mio got surprised, "I can't believe it! It's the very first time they worn the Striker Units?" she asked as the twins caught up to her.
"Major Sakamoto!" they cried but had troubles in controlling their speed, so the twins just flew from left to right.
"Hey?! Where are you two going?" Mio asked. "We're here to hellep!" the twins said as they also flew up and down around her.
The Neuroi fired a few beams at Yoshika and Yoshiki.
"Look out!" Mio called out.
The twins raised an enormous shield and deflected the beams.
Mio was impressed. "That shield is incredible they have more power than I thought and because they are together." she said as the twins' shield went down.
"Interesting." she continued as she flew close to Yoshika and Yoshiki, "Glad to you two on board Miyafujis." she said.
"Major, we brought you two guns." the twins said.
"I think you two should keep them." Mio said.
The twins were surprised as Mio continued, "Both you want help us, right?" she asked.
Yoshika and Yoshiki nodded, "Yes ma'am!" they said.
"Excellent!" Mio said as she put her arm over the twins' shoulders as she and the twins press their faces up against one another, "Let me show you." Mio said as she pointed her katana at the Neuroi, "Its core is hidden under the surface right there. "You two expose the core while I draw all its fire." She explained as she looked at Yoshika and Yoshiki, "Think you two can?" Mio asked.
"We'll try and do our best." the twins said.
"Okay." Mio said as she flew off, "Two seconds then follow me!" she said as the Neuroi followed her.
Mio flew under the Neuroi and swiftly cut it with her katana. It immediately retaliated with a barrage of beams, but none hit their target. In the meantime, Yoshika and Yoshiki were hovering over it and aiming with their guns. Instead of shooting, the twins got shot at by the Neuroi but erected a shield in time. Mio saw this and flew back to them.
"Are you two okay?" she asked.
"Yes. We're fine." Yoshika and Yoshiki said, "We're sorry ma'am. We, we can still fly, give us a second." they said.
Mio looks at the twins' breath heavenly, 'It's their first flight, their first battle, they had enough.' she thought.
The twins look at her. "One more time. Please let us try." Yoshika and Yoshiki said.
Mio understood "Alright then, get ready. This could be our last chance to destroy it." she said.
"Right." the twins said as Mio dropped down on the Neuroi.
'If we do it the same way. We get hit again. We have to think.' Yoshika and Yoshiki thought as Mio dodges more beams from the Neuroi, the twins gasp 'We see.' Yoshika and Yoshiki thought and got it as they also dropped down on the Neuroi, 'We have to stay close to it.' The twins thought as they aimed their guns, 'Hold it together, Yoshika and Yoshiki! We can do this. We're going to protect everyone!' Yoshika and Yoshiki thought as they started shooting their guns at the Neuroi, exposing it's core. The twins gasp. 'That's the core!' The twins thought and aimed their guns at the core, but they flew and flew, and hesitated to shoot 'No! We can't!' they thought as someone did shot at the core the Twins gasp as the Neuroi is destroyed 'Did we? did we do it?' Yoshika and Yoshiki thought as the twins fainted, and Mio caught them. 'Unbelievable, they had no training, and they pulled it off.' Mio thought.
It was shown it was the Romagna witch who was now wearing a white long-sleeved jacket, and she had blue-and-white striped panties on was the one who shot the core, "Notch another kill for me, thank you." she cheered.
Then a Karlsland witch spoke. "If it's the Major's, I wouldn't be surprised. If it's someone I don't know of, I'll be either surprised or skeptical of the results."
That's when Perrine spoke. "Major Sakamoto, are you alright?" she asked as she flying forwards.
"Perrine always turns into such a complete suck up to the Major after every battles over," the Romagna witch said as she laughed. "I'm going to make sure to tease her later on." The Romagna witch opened her eyes slightly before opening them all the way. "Huh?"
Perrine noticed it as well.
Mio was flying in the air, holding onto twins with both her arms.
Perrine checked her glasses before flying backward. "Ahhhhh, I don't believe it!" shouted Perinne. "Who are they, and why are they touching the Major."
Yoshika and Yoshiki opened their eyes before speaking, "Did we." they said.
"Good to have you two back," Mio said.
"Major Sakamoto," the twins said.
"I'm proud of you both. I don't know how much I could have survived if you both hadn't shown up when you did." Mio said.
"But we supposed to destroy the core, and in the end, we shoot around it, right?" Yoshika and Yoshiki asked.
"What are you talking about, Miyafujis?" asked Mio. "This was only your first battle. You two did great. Come on, both of you take a look."
Yoshika and Yoshiki looked down at the Akagi ship to see several men cheering and celebrating.
'Daddy, we did it, We." The twins thought with tears in their eyes.
Sometime later in Britannia Yoshika, Yoshiki, and Mio was standing in front of the twins' father's address where he worked, but the building was in ruins with not much of anything left.
"Are you sure this is the address?" Yoshika and Yoshiki asked.
"Yes," said Mio. "Until five years ago, this was Dr. Miyafuji's development lab for the striker unit. Up until the day of the accident."
The twins dropped the letter, "Major," Yoshika and Yoshiki said. "Did you know all of this before?" they asked.
"I'm sorry," Mio said.
The twins turned around and looked at her before speaking, "You don't have anything to be sorry for. We're so grateful that you brought us all the way here even though we acted so selfishly from the moment we met you."
Mio was surprised to hear that.
"I used to live here with him a long time ago," said Mio as they started walking. "That letter was probably sent way back then and just got lost." she added.
"Our dad really has terrible timing," the twins said as they kneed next to a grave. "He left on our first day of school. We find out he died on our tenth birthday. Suddenly this letter arrives and for a second we thought maybe. We can see we are suppose to be father and children, but we just don't know him."
That's when Yoshika and Yoshiki caught something on the gravestone.
"Use your power to protect everyone," Mio said reading it. "That was one of his favorite phrases he say. It's why he made the striker. He just wanted to protect everyone."
The twins had tears in their eyes as they heard that, "Daddy." Yoshika and Yoshiki started crying and then they just started to cry their hearts out.
Sometime went by and the sun was starting to go down giving a nice sunset on the water.
"Shall we get going?" Mio asked.
The twins were now standing up, "Yes," Yoshika and Yoshiki said Mio turned around, but the twins hummed, and she turned back. Yoshika and Yoshiki looked at Mio.
"Major Sakamoto," they said. "If it's still okay we like to join the Strike Witches."
Mio blinked at that "You both sure?" she asked.
"We want to stay here and continue our father's work," Yoshika and Yoshiki said. "We want to use our power to protect everyone we can." they added.
"Miyafujis," Mio said as the twins looked back at the grave.
"We're sure it's what our father would have wanted us to do," Yoshika and Yoshiki said.
"I see," Mio said before laughing. "Alright, then you two better get ready. I'm going to push you two until you turn into real witches. True witches. Are you two ready?" she asked.
"Yes," the twins said Mio then started laughing.
Sometime later outside the base of Britannia, most of everyone that was in the Strike Witches were lined up together.
"As of today the 501st Joint Fighter Wing has two new members," said Mio. "Yoshika and Yoshimi Miyafuji." she said keeping Yoshiki's true name and gender a secret.
"I'm Yoshika Miyafuji," the female twin said, "And I'm Yoshimi Miyafuji," the male twin keeping up with his female act. "We're happy to meet you." Yoshika and Yoshiki said.
