AITA for not letting my nakama know of an embarrassing situation?
Let me preface this question by admitting that my nakama and I have had some difficulties in the past.
When I first joined the crew, Cook (pseudonym) had some harsh words for me. I'm hoping that my response to this current situation is not colored by these past actions, but I will let you - the readers - be the judge of that.
Herein lies the problem. A couple of weeks ago, we were in a brief skirmish with some Marines. This is a fairly typical occurrence for our crew. What is not typical, however, was their Captain. He had quite the unusual Devil Fruit.
When Cook landed a mighty kick upon the Captain, he grabbed Cook by the ankle and said, "Try that again, Blondie!"
I'm afraid Cook was turned into a merman and landed flopping on the deck, helpless as a polliwog.
The rest of us quickly defeated the Marines, avoiding the Captain, and made our escape. Cook was tossed into our aquarium while Bird and Tanuki engaged in research to try and figure out a solution.
Cook is doing well despite the dramatic change in form. He says he can finally fulfill his ultimate dream of marrying a mermaid. He has been pestering me about underwater cooking techniques.
I haven't the heart to tell him that most merpeople simply eat sashimi and seaweed. Anything else gives them indigestion.
The embarrassing situation I referenced in the beginning has to do with - ahem - evacuations. At a young age, we people of the sea are taught how to discreetly use what you land people call "the facilities."
Cook did not have the benefit of this teaching. In fact, I do not think Cook is even aware that he is "evacuating, " so to speak.
Our swordsman has found this quite amusing. He only calls Cook "shit cook" and breaks out into loud laughter once he leaves the aquarium.
While it's good to hear him laugh again, I fear for Cook's sense of self if he ever finds out why the swordsman is acting as such.
I am in a difficult quandry. Just this morning, Cook was describing in unfortunate detail the intimate actions he wanted to get into with a mermaid and all I could do was stare at the trail of you-know-what coming out from behind him.
Cook has not caught on even after our Captain asked him, "Hey, Cook, do you poo- . Nevermind. Can you make me some meat?"
Do I tell Cook, risk him dying of mortification, but let him have some dignity around his crew? Or do we all keep up the facade and hope the Devil Fruit wears off soon?
AITA for not telling Cook already?

YTA but I'm not too mad about it. If the situation was reversed, wouldn't you want someone to tell you? Everyone has had an eyeful of your friend's dookie leash and Cook is getting made fun of for it, even if it is behind his back.
I totally get why you're uncomfortable telling Cook about it. But it sounds like you know it needs to be done. People, even merpeople, don't die from embarrassment. Besides, maybe this will stop Cook from all his getting jiggy with mermaids talk. He needs to keep his kinks to himself, tyvm.
