Welcome everyone to this year's Memorial Day Special! Normally I'd go into some big spiel about why I do a special on Memorial Day, usually dedicating it to the military past and present. But I've done that enough, and everybody who's been reading my stuff a long while knows exactly why I do this by now, so we're just going to skip straight to the action this year. Last time, the team found Beth Kane's body, just as the Joker and her goons caught up with them. And as the confrontation went on, Batwoman unintentionally extracted the Shadow Element from Beth Kane's corpse, becoming it's host in the process. Cynder managed to talk her through getting them out of there, but what's to come from this? Read on to discover...

(Our scene opens up back in the Batcave, where Batwing is just talking with the rest of the League and the Legends)

Batwing: So you guys pretty much all worked with Kate to save the Multiverse, and just about nobody remembers it save those of you involved?

Supergirl: As strange as it sounds, it's one hundred percent true.

Batwing: You're pulling one over on me, I'm sure of it. Sure I've seen some weird nonsense in this job, but that seems to be almost too much to believe.

White Canary: We're working with dragons and that's unbelievable?

Batwing: Touche.

(At this point, the room begins to darken, and nobody quite likes the look of this)

Martian Manhunter: Please don't let this be those shadow creatures again...

(Thankfully for Martian Manhunter, it's not the Anti-Monitor's shadow creatures. The source is soon revealed as Spyro, Cynder, Flash, and Batwoman fall out of the mass of shadows in the ceiling, which dissipates as soon as they land, fresh from the morgue)

Batwoman: With all the damage I've taken from this job, you'd think that wouldn't phase me...

Cynder: Trust us, falling out of the sky will always hurt.

Flash: Forget the physical scars for a second, I'm more worried about the mental ones. What the hell did we see in there?!

Cynder: Trust me, Barry. You don't want to know.

Spyro: What you just saw is exactly the reason I'm hesitant to see if I can actually use Shadow myself.

Flash: No amount of therapy will make this okay.

Superman: Are you alright? What happened?

Cynder: (Getting up) Good news, we did manage to stop Joker from getting her hands on the Element of Shadow.

Batwing: That sort of implies there's bad news.

Spyro: I wouldn't exactly call it bad news.

Cynder: Well, we got it back, but I didn't get it back myself.

Batwing: Come again?

Batwoman: (Noting the streams of darkness emanating from her) I did.

Cynder: Ryan is now the host of the Element of Shadow.

White Canary: Well, here we go again.

Batwing: Wait, this has already happened?

Flash: (Summoning fire in his hand) I can't do this normally.

Black Lightning: Going to guess it's the same procedure as before?

Cynder: Probably the best idea. Though this time we've got Spyro in the field and me here training Ryan in the attributes of her new Element.

Batwoman: Probably a good idea...

(At this point, we look down and see Batwoman is actually sinking into her own shadow)

Batwoman: Becuase I'm pretty sure this isn't supposed to be happening.

Cynder: (Pulling Batwoman to her feet) Don't worry, happens to everyone the first time. Well, at least it happened to me the first time.

Supergirl: What about the rest of us?

Spyro: Undoubtedly Joker and the Dark Knights were tracking the Shadow element's signature when it was in Beth Kane, so they'll probably use it to track us too. We need to start finding them.

Batwing: Any ideas there?

Batwoman: Joker's got a few associates, one of which is using Mister Freeze's liquid nitrogen mixture. She called him Virgil. We can start with identifying him.

Batwing: And use that to track them back to Joker's hideout. Smart move. I'll get right on that, put a call in to Renee and see what GCPD might have.

Cynder: In the meantime, Ryan, we'd better get to training your new powers. (To Batwing) Is there anywhere to train down here?

Batwing: There is a sparring arena in the back somewhere. Hasn't been used in a while so it might by dusty.

Cynder: I can handle dust. Well then, let's get to work.

(And with that, our scene ends for today)

This concludes Part I of the Memorial Day Special. For Part II, head on over to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Well, talk about deja vu. Now another member of the League has to be trained in the use of an element. And unlike the Fire element last time, we have really nothing about how to really teach Shadow to anyone. No worries, we'll be able to figure something out. Next time, Cynder and Batwoman begin their training. So be sure to tune in for that! Same time... same channel!
