Chapter 8

Kara stood at the computer screen in the Tower. The pieces of the mystery were in front of her, she just needed to put them together. The algorithm was almost done sorting out the notes and the gibberish that had been found in Marie's apartment.

"Well Obsidian North was a bust. We don't have any information other than Marie asked for vacation. While everyone, including her boss, thought it was weird, no one questioned it. Marie had enough vacation to take six months off but she told her boss that she just wanted two weeks off. He ok'd it. Problem is two weeks was over a month ago. He just extended her vacation, not wanting her to lose her job," Kelly announced after she and Nyssa had left the elevator, breaking Kara's concentration. The blonde heaved a sigh.

"The body down at the waterfront was not anyone we're looking for. It's tragic as a man has lost his life, but I'm not sure it has anything to do with our situation," Kara explained.

"Where are J'onn and Nia?" Nyssa noticed that the two were not there.

"They went out to help Alex and the former DEO agents find Agent Smith. J'onn found footage of his movements and hopefully they're on his tail," Kara pulled up the video on the screen and let the two see what they had seen.

Agent Smith left work, multiple cameras found him walking to his apartment, despite it being a good ten block walk. He was talking on his personal cell phone the whole way. It was obvious that he'd chosen to walk to avoid a cabbie or anyone on a city bus from hearing the conversation.

"Do we have his phone records? I mean Alex and the team were inside his apartment, they had to have found a phone bill," Nyssa said.

"They found nothing. It could be a pay as you go or he pays his bill electronically. We need a hacker for Smith's tablet. Luckily, Lena has offered to assist and M'gann is with her now, having swung by the apartment to grab all the electronics left behind," Kara told them. The blonde had yet to thank the Martian for her help being "Supergirl". She hoped that they'd meet up soon.

"I don't understand why they have gone to such lengths to cover their tracks," Kelly spoke up as they watched Smith enter his building.

"Marie would die before she gave anything away regarding Diana, Queen Hippolyta, and the Amazons. She has spent every moment since joining them learning how to protect their secret. When you spend that much time protecting a secret so important, you can't help but hide everything that could possibly lead back to you. I think we all know that. It's a force of habit yet she still left clues – even if they were encrypted," Kara said.

"How long was he inside?" Nyssa asked.

"All of fifteen minutes. He then exits the building here," the blonde sped through the video of the camera closest to the apartment.

"Can we zoom in and get that medallion number of that cab?" Nyssa wanted to know as they watched him climb into the vehicle, after hailing it from the sidewalk. The angle is not great and the former League of Assassins was hoping for a break.

"No, but we can see the name of the company. J'onn was hoping to be able to find which taxi by the sense. If not, Nia may be able to sense something. Brainy has not been in touch and I'm guessing he's been overwhelmed with all of that footage,"

"So, what's next?" Kelly asked.

"These messages. The computer is almost done with them. We're going to have a lot of information to shift through," Kara admitted. The computer started beeping, indicating that it needed some human interaction.

"Here we go," Kara moved the videos off the screen and pulled up the program. The deciphered words splashed onto the screen.

"What are we looking at?" Nyssa was struggling to take it all in. Marie had obviously been taking notes long before her disappearing act.

"Can you word search?" Kelly asked. Kara nodded and quickly pulled up the search function. They all wanted to know if the words "Obsidian North" popped up anywhere.

"This is a big rabbit hole…" Kara was beginning to realize what they had stumbled onto.

"I think you better make a phone call," Nyssa said.

"Yes, I had better," the blonde agreed.
