In the city of Tampa, Florida, there was a woman scientist who was also a zoologist, biologist, and geneticist. She was in her mid-thirties. Her name was Irene Hampton. She had long blonde hair, green eyes, stood about 5'6. She wore casual clothes most of the time like t-shirts and long pants on the job while wearing a white lab jacket that was required. She worked alongside a team of over fifty others in her facility.
Irene had always been fascinated by living creatures and how they reproduced. She had studied the majority of creatures on this planet, but now, all across the country, there were news of a new kind of creature that was living in New York City: Gargoyles. She saw the news broadcasts and was instantly fascinated. She had to go to New York to get some and study them, or even one. She planned to bring it back here to Florida. But first, she wanted a place to keep her gargoyle safely.
For months, she had a secure cage prepared for one. The walls were built with solid steel and titanium to make it gargoyle proof. The bars she had on the front were electrified with over two thousand volts. She had a bed and toilet put in there, but that was it for furniture. She would see how sentient the gargoyle was that she captured and work the way up from there. But if there was another thing she was set on, it was also the creation of a new one to study. She also had an outdoor electric fence dome created too.
Once all the preparations were made in this place, Irene and a team of fifteen left of New York City to try to find and get a specimen gargoyle. Irene was also set on trying a new experiment.
...
When Irene and her team got to New York, they all dressed as ordinary citizens and went about in groups in the city during the daytime to find out what they could about the gargoyles. They asked regular folks on the streets, asking what they knew about gargoyles.
Some of their questions got them connected to the Quarrymen. At least some of them. The questions were of rather how many there were and what they looked like. How many males and females there were of any assumptions. Irene soon met Castaway, and he told her that there were five males that he knew of and two females in the city, and one wingless one that he didn't know what it was. He didn't care either. He just wanted them wiped out. He also gave descriptions of their looks that Irene wanted.
The woman and her team played along that they were gargoyle haters to get the information they wanted. It was just a go with the flow kind of thing but had no plans to harm the gargoyles. They were told of the gargoyles' weakness of turning to stone in the daylight, and the need to protect innocent civilians. It could lure them in easily.
Irene wanted to see that. She told Castaway that she wanted a specimen to dissect. Perhaps one of the males would do better since there were more of them than females. "Only use tranquilizer darts on them. If you can find a few, I want to take my pick. I want them alive." Irene ordered. "I'll give you twenty million dollars for one."
Castaway was intrigued. "Hm. That is a good deal. Their bodies are worth a great deal in the name of science." He sneered. "If not crushed in their statue sleep. We will help you draw some in."
"Good." Irene shook his hand. It was a business deal only. She was secretly disgusted doing business with this guy, but he had good information on what he knew of them. Irene though wanted a gargoyle as soon as possible, alive of course.
...
The clan of New York had only seven gargoyles. They were all different sizes and colors. Goliath was the biggest and strongest and the leader. Angela was the only female of this group and his daughter. Hudson was the eldest. Brooklyn was the second-in-command. Lexington was the smartest one and smallest. Broadway was the chef mostly, but also Angela's mate. And Bronx was their pet and secret weapon sometimes.
The clan tried to be close in companionship to each other. They were closely knit as a clan yes, but there was just one of them that stood out, that he felt lonely and didn't always have someone to hang out with when they weren't patrolling or doing duties to protect the city.
Brooklyn got so bored when he wasn't busy that he wanted someone to hang with. Lex was often busy with projects or baby Alex anymore to hang out. He was also longing for a mate to love him back. But there was a serious lack of females here in the city to choose from. There were human women, but he was holding out for a gargess mate. Only if it truly came to it would he take a human mate if one ever loved him that way. He didn't have anything against humans as friends though.
Little did Brooklyn know that his life would take a new direction soon.
One night in the month of June, Goliath had ordered Brooklyn and Hudson to patrol together. They did their patrol and came home. There hadn't been much going on there. Brooklyn saw Hudson be greeted by Bronx upon their return and they headed inside to watch tv. The red male felt too restless to go inside.
He sighed and sat down on the battlements, staring out over the city. "You must be out there somewhere, my love." Brooklyn said lowly. "Really wish you would show yourself." He liked New York and the possibilities of fun and stopping baddies that it held. New York's crime lords gave the gargoyles their purpose to protect others.
With the rest of his clan occupied after patrols were done, Brooklyn got too restless and decided that he was going to go out gliding. It was just to get some air. It was a warm and beautiful night. He breathed in that nice night air before he spread his wings and launched himself off the battlement. He headed south towards the East Village.
Brooklyn was just out enjoying himself but would keep an eye out for trouble too. It didn't matter whether he was alone or not. He had it ingrained in him to protect the innocent and help out those in need. It would be nice to make a new friend. This night would change his life forever.
The Quarrymen had spotted the beaked male gliding by himself and gave notice. Then the setup began. They all had their hammers and guns in defense ready, but they were not to harm the gargoyle. Just lure him in to the trap. Brooklyn was suddenly alerted to noise below him and went to check it out, landing on a rooftop to see what it was.
A woman started screaming and some men were (play) harassing her to take her purse and more. When Brooklyn saw that, it enraged him. He instantly roared and attacked to scare off the men to keep them from hurting the woman. He landed and with his eyes glowing white in rage, when some men didn't run off, he threw two away that tried to attack him and he used his tail to whip his feet out from under him. It got the rest to run off.
"That was way too easy." Brooklyn grinned, his eyes returning to normal. Then he turned to the woman. "Are you alright, Miss?" He tried to be as gentle as possible to not scare her. "You're safe now."
She then started to laugh sinisterly. "But you're not!" She exclaimed and ran up the alley.
"Get the monster!" Quarrymen started hitting the ground with their hammers trying to intimidate the gargoyle.
Brooklyn couldn't believe he had been set up again. He had to get out of here or risk being killed. He tried to make a run for it, but a net suddenly shot down upon him, tripping him and he rolled to the ground, grunting on landing. He came to rest on his side, trying to get out of the net he was trapped in when some Quarrymen came up to him.
"Any last words, Monster?" The man sneered. He had a gun in his hand.
Brooklyn snarled angrily. "Let me go, you lunatics!" He ordered.
"Don't think so." The man retorted, then he took aim.
Brooklyn breathed fast. He shut his eyes in response. 'This is it. I'm going to die. I'm sorry for leaving you guys. I love you all.' Brooklyn thought fast. Then he felt two darts go into his right arm and leg. He cried out in pain, opening his eyes and saw the one in his arm. But it didn't take long for the drug to take effect on him. He was soon unconscious.
"We got a gargoyle, Boss." One of the Quarrymen called Castaway.
"Good. Bring it here." Castaway ordered.
Brooklyn was pulled to a transport truck and put in the back where the net was removed, and his arms were pulled behind him and put in metal shackles that he wouldn't be able to move them much. His legs were also bound together, as were his two wing arms. His tail was also tied to one of his legs to render him helpless to defend himself. They also tied his beak shut so he couldn't bite.
They soon got him to the headquarters. "We have a gargoyle for you, Miss Irene." Castaway told her.
"Thank you. I can't wait to see it." Irene replied.
"What do you plan to do with it besides dissect it?" Castaway asked.
"I do want to examine the vitals at least before putting it down." Irene stated. "This is what scientists do."
"Whatever. One less of those monsters is great." Castaway sneered.
Brooklyn's body was put onto a gurney where he was strapped down onto his back with all his limbs tied down and his beak still tied shut. He was taken inside for a short time to see what the lady thought of her new specimen.
Irene went over to see the gargoyle that lay before her. The one before her was obviously one of the males. His looks were impressive. The Quarrymen had gone to great lengths to get her one awesome specimen. "Does he have a name?" she asked.
"Don't know and don't care. It's the red male of the clan." One of the men replied. "He's all yours with what you paid us to get him for ya."
"Yes and thank you. Well, now that I have him, my team and I will be on our way to get rid of him." Irene declared. "It was great doing business with you. But you didn't hurt him, right?"
"No, we did as you wanted. Nothing more than luring him in and darting him. He should be out a while."
"Good." Irene replied.
Brooklyn was taken to her team's transport truck and taken into the back where the gurney was secured to the wall. Here it was that Irene took Brooklyn's pulse, breathing rate, and blood pressure. She also listened to his gut sounds. She also looked at his eyes, ears, nose, and teeth. She also felt along his arms and legs and tail. His skin felt leathery and smooth. It was warm too. She cut a skin tissue off his left arm and took some blood for analysis.
This red male was one impressive looking creature. He would be worth working with. After she was done looking at his teeth, she put the muzzle back on over his beak. But if there was another thing she didn't want was for him to be stressed should he wake up on the trip back to Tampa. Using a big handkerchief, she tied it over his eyes.
Irene also looked at the way the gargoyle was breathing. His chest and upper belly rose with every breath. She felt below the ribs, and it seemed like any mammal, like he had a diaphragm. But then, curiosity got the better of her and she also felt for the internal organs in his belly.
Irene was intrigued by what she felt. But from her pressing, there were some groans from Brooklyn. It was like he was feeling the pressure on his belly even while unconscious. She soon finished her exam on him, and he relaxed.
"Do you know what you want to name him, Irene?" One of her women associates, Susan asked her.
"Big Red for the time being unless he already has a name." Irene replied. "But we're going to get him home first before I even think about taking off his muzzle."
"Are we going to take a semen sample too?" Susan asked.
"When we get home." Irene said.
They were soon on their way to the airport where Brooklyn's gurney was loaded onto a jet. The gurney was sturdy to take the gargoyle's weight and be secured to that wall too.
The jet soon took off into the night. Brooklyn wouldn't be seeing his home again for a long time. There was still only three hours before sunrise.
...
Closer to sunrise, the clan all regrouped like they tried to do every morning to make sure they were all there. The only one who didn't show up was Brooklyn.
"Has anyone seen Brooklyn?" Goliath asked.
"He's not here." Angela replied.
"The lad must have went out on the town again and got stuck away from home. I saw him out here on the battlements before going in with Bronx to watch tv." Hudson declared.
"If he's not home a short while after sunset, we'll go look for him." Goliath decreed. The others nodded their agreement. Then they all took their places as the sun rose.
