Lost in Space: "Wanted Man…"
Summary: Smith's past…And the Space Tribunal catch up with him.
Stranded once again due to needed repairs on an unknown planet in a star system far from Earth (or Alpha Centauri), the Robinson, Major West, Dr. Smith, and the Robot are about to encounter an old foe. Several, actually.
Part 7…
"And you have no idea what caused this…?" John to Farnum B as they continue on to the Tribunal site.
Farnum frowning at Nancy stroking the reluctant Smith's hand as they walked, Will just behind them, shaking his head.
"Mr. Farnum?"
"Oh…Yes…No…No idea, Robinson. If I had I would've dealt with it or paid the what-or whoever off." Sigh. "But someone with considerable skill is exerting an influence."
"What about…Those fire creatures?" Robinson eyed him. "They were able to exert influence even on you."
"And indeed I did consider them, sir. Indeed. But their planet was destroyed by those they'd tried to conquer as soon as their leader, my ex-employer, fell, to your own wonderful effort. Frankly, Professor." Farnum sighs. "When I saw you all were involved, I was hopeful for the first time since Nancy started acting so strangely a few days ago. But all I can tell you is I can't break whatever hold someone has on her nor determined the cause or causor. I'm sorry."
"I understand. We're at a loss too. And my wife and daughters…"
"Oh, no. I am sorry, Professor. And if, somehow the great Farnum B is involved again in causing you all distress, I pledge to you that I will make amends." Earnest nod.
"Well…" John shakes head. "Lets just try to work together on this. I'm just hoping the Space Tribunal can come up with an explanation. It's surely got to be a crime to manipulate people this way."
"I'm sure…" Farnum nods. "Well, with good friends like you on our side, I'm sure we must prevail. Shall we press on?"
"Dad…" Will calls as the Robot halts again…
"Uhhhooh…!" Smith screaming as Nancy selflessly steps forward to shield him.
…
"Hurry, girls." Maureen urges the others, all armed with laser pistols. "Dr. Smith needs us."
"You just remember…Dr. Smith is mine." Judy hisses to Penny. "I remember how he came to save me from the Duplicating Plants when I was under their control that time…"
"He didn't 'save' you…" Penny frowns. "He saved me when I was turned to platinum…" fond beam.
Judy glaring…
"Girls!" Maureen calls.
But give me a clear shot and I'll drop you, Penny thought
…
"Flowers are nice…I like flowers. Do you like flowers, Dr. Smith? These are for you." The blue and white robot, formerly pure Evil, addresses the terrified Smith behind Nancy Pi-Square.
"Please let me see Dr. Smith or I will have to destroy you." The female robot notes kindly to Nancy. "And that would violate my programming. Hello, B-9, my last programmer."
"Oh…Hello…" the Robot sighs. "You'd better take the flowers, Dr. Smith."
Smith reluctantly taking flowers.
"Would you like to register me, Dr. Smith? I belong to you now. And you can give me a name? What name do you like for me?" the female robot eagerly as she stood before him. "Do you have any orders for me?"
"Yes, get lost, honey." Nancy, grimly. "The doc doesn't need any robot slave girls, he's got me, warm and alive."
"Oh, dear…." Smith sighs.
"Is this female correct, Dr. Smith? Should I destroy myself or her?" the female robot asks pleasantly.
Will shaking head to Smith…
Oh, the pain of being a space idol…
"No, my dear…Neither…"
"She's pretty powerful still, isn't she?" Will hisses to the Robot, Smith listening…
Hmmn…
"Yes…I suppose so…" The Robot sighs as John and Farnum come up.
"Oh, my…" Farnum stares. "That's her…The deadliest robot in the known Galaxy. She could kick even my Mort's robotic bottom all whichway. I'd heard rumors she'd been reprogrammed but…"
"Robot, you did let her go…" Will notes.
"I know. But it would have been unethical to keep her, having reprogrammed her." The Robot turns body as if to shake head. "But I'd hoped…One day, on her own, maybe…"
"Indeed, my dear girl…Perhaps, if you'd careto…You could be of considerable service to me." Smith tells the female robot.
"I would love to be of service to you, Dr. Smith. It's what I exist for." She notes, happy tone.
"She's a machine…" John eyes Farnum who shrugs.
"Clearly this affects anything perceiving itself female…" he notes.
On the other hand, for once, Smith may be on to something…John thinks, eyeing the female robot with Smith.
"Smith? Can you get your latest girlfriend to come with us? We may need her abilities."
"My intentions absolutely, Professor." Smith nodding proudly.
"Zachary…" Nancy, anxiously. "You don't need her…"
"My dear…" he thinks fast. "If you love me, consider the danger I may be in, and that every tool at hand may be useful."
"Friend…" grimace… "Smith is quite right, Nancy." Farnum, smoothly. "This robot is extremely powerful. If we need firepower to protect the good Doctor…"
Nancy, frowning…But…
"She's just a tool,, right?"
"A mere, but extremely useful, servomechanism…" Smith nods
"I like to serve Dr. Smith." The female robot happily.
If only I could let her be free and evil for five seconds after I get Will and Professor Robinson to safety, the Robot thinks.
"A powerful energy source is approaching…" the female robot notes. "Should I destroy it, Dr. Smith?"
"What ho? Pon my soul…If it isn't young William." A hearty cry as a figure in black techno suit appears.
"Sir Sagramore?" Will blinks.
"Just keep in front, dear. Hold on destroying just yet." Smith notes to the female robot.
…
"Oh…An Anterian…" Farnum B smiles.
"Sir Sagramore?" John eyes him.
"Where's your armor, Sir?" Will asks.
"Just a moment to catch breath, lad…" Sir Sagramore ,breathing deep. "Hello, Dr. Smith…Very nice to see you again. Professor Robinson…And, have we had the pleasure, sir…Madam…Robotic madam?"
"The great Farnum B, sir, at your service….And my erstwhile secretary, Miss Nancy Pi-Square."
"Hey…" Nancy, waving.
"Old friends of the Robinsons…" Farnum notes. "But I am surprised to see an Anterian using modern technology."
"Yes,yes…I've had to fall back on our old Science as Magic has briefly left me." Sagramore sighs. "Pardon me…" as an instrument light on his belt flashes.
"Ah…So." He eyes Nancy… "I see your friend suffers from the same enchantment that brought me here. While a biomentallic/telekinetic/telepathic interdimensional field is clearly involved, enchantment is as good a word as any."
Wait a second…The thought occurring to Will, the computation to the Robot…
And, after a slight delay, to Dr. Smith who blanches…
"Sir Sagramore?" Will hesitantly. "Wasn't that pocket dragon lady with the advanced teleportation system you were questing for…A girl?"
"There you touch it with needle, my boy." Sagramore sighs. "My questing beast/lady love has fallen under a cruel…No offense, Dr. Smith, my friend…Enchantment. Like the young lady here."
"They're not the only ones, Sir Sagramore…" Will shakes head.
"Ah, so the spell field is multispecies…" Sagramore nods. "My analysis suggested it could be."
"Sir Sagramore… " John notes. "Whatever this field or effect is, it even seems to affect robotic females. Including our friend here." Indicating the female robot.
"Hello." The female robot, cheerily. "You are Anterian. Do you like flowers? I like flowers. Flowers are nice. If you threaten Dr. Smith I must destroy you though I detect your personal shield will be difficult to overcome."
"Uh, no need of that, my dear…" Smith called. "Sagramore of Antares is a dear friend."
Who hopefully will keep all pocket dragon females away from me?
"Why, thank you, Doctor, very kind." Sagramore nods. "But, yes, fair lady of transaluminium and carbonium, I mean no threat to the good doctor, likewise a dear friend." To the female robot. "Indeed, I see our goals are mutual , though I should like to help my friends in any case."
"Friends are nice. Helping friends is very nice." The female robot.
"We're very grateful, Sir Sagramore." John notes. "Can we possibly review your data?"
"Of course, of course…Naturally having only resumed our technology in the last few months, I remain a bit rusty in its application so I'd would appreciate fresh eyes on the problem." Sagramore nods.
"Where…May I ask…In no little desperation…Is the lady in question?" Smith asks, nervously glancing about. "Your questing beast partner?"
"Another biological female…?" Nancy frowning. "She's not good enough for you, Doc. Not half good enough and I'll prove it by dissecting and molecularly analyzing her remains."
Hmmn…"Quite an enchantment." Sagramore nods. "Well, she's actually just put herself in the custody of the Galactic Space Tribunal, and is sadly beyond my ability to reach at this time."
Oh, no…Smith blinks
"We might be able to help you with that, Sir Sagramore…" John notes.
Uh-oh…The Robot turns to Will. "We have another problem."
"Another one?" Will stares.
And she'll probably want my job as Dr. Smith's legal counsel…Pointer-taker android….The Robot thinks.
"Zachary…" a voice from upahead on the trail… "It's so good to see you, Father/owner. William, B-9, Professor, hello. How are the others? Is Penny here?"
"It seems another lady of metal seeks our good doctor." Sagramore eyeing instrument on arm.
"Naturally…" Smith sighs, hand to head.
But perhaps at least Verda sees this as a father-android daughter relationship?
