Contrition

Finally rested, finally having had an actual sleep for the first time since the Symbiote took over him, Jake let out a slow breath as he stretched and collected himself.

'I...the things I've done. I have to make up for it now...have to put a stop to this madness.' He told himself.

So, with careful consideration, he began hurrying around the room, pulling on his suit and gathering his equipment. At that moment, the door opened and he turned to his dads who had just entered.

"Jake...heading out." Will queried.

Jake nodded. "Yeah. I...I've gotta meet the others. We all planned to meet up today after, everything."

Mike nodded. "Alright, makes sense. Don't worry and be careful."

"Yeah...I'm sorry, both of you." Jake replied sadly.

"Don't be saying that now." Mike replied. "You're not to blame, you're going to be fine, we're all going to stand together."

Will nodded too. "That's right, we're going to be meeting the rest of the parents, you guys have your plans to make, we do too, I've gotta try and help figure out where the Upside-Down creatures are coming from. You know I can sense them."

"Dad...that's…" Jake began.

"We know, but it's our best hope." Mike explained. "We're hoping that if we can find and close the Upside-Down portal it'll cut Venom off from it."

"Which might give us an edge." Jake realized. "Alright, be careful."

"We'll likely be done first, so we'll meet up with you there." Will added.

They all nodded and Jake finished suiting up, pulling on his mask and they left the house in their own respective ways.

After the Avengers went to a safe rooftop, with their parents and beloveds joining soon after, Jake removed his mask and then looked down. Despite what a lot of people said, he was still ashamed for what he had done, his friends had arrived just behind him and had also removed their masks. They looked at him worried, it happened that they sometimes saw him sad, but never like this, they never saw him so defeated. Mike and Will always hated seeing their son like this, just the sight of it broke their hearts, they knew what it was like to suffer, and they never wanted to see him feel like that. Will felt like this when he killed Bob, and Mike when he understood how much his love suffered because of him. They knew their son was blaming himself, and they wanted so much to hug him and make him feel better. Jessica felt tears in her eyes at seeing her love like this, and she knew it was now her time to be there for him, just like he had always been there for her. The Avengers' soulmates looked worried as well, Jake was their friend and they weren't used to seeing him so defeated. Even the Party felt sad on seeing him like this.

Jake starts talking, his voice hiccuped by sobs.

"These last few days…" He choked out. "...Guys, I'm sorry."

That was enough for them, no more sadness, they wanted to see him smile once again, they all went to hug him tightly, and Jake hanged on tightly to them, he never wanted to lose them, any of them. But looking at their eyes, full of comfort and understanding and love, he could tell that would never happen, even after everything, they still loved him, how did he get so lucky? Jake felt his strength returning, and he started to get up, standing properly now, a hint of a smile on his face. They all started to smile too, finally Jake, Mike and Will's son, Jessica's boyfriend, their best friend, the amazing Spider-Man, and leader of the Avengers, is back, reborn, stronger than before, like a phoenix. Jake smiled at them gratefully.

"Thank you... For everything." He said.

Eddie smiled at him, and gave him the capsule containing the symbiote.

As he did he said. "We're the Avengers, right?"

Jake took it and with a smile, he said to them, to all of them:

"The Avengers didn't save me today... My family did"

They all felt their hearts soar and jump out of happiness, he considered all of them not just his friends, but his family, wasn't that the greatest gift ever received?

Nathan, Amanda's boyfriend, didn't want to interrupt the moment, but he was forced to do so, the symbiote invasion still hadn't ended. He gave a cough that grabbed everyone's attention.

""What now?"" He asked.

That was enough to make them remember their job still wasn't finished, and they all prepared for the task at hand. Jake, once more their leader, started talking.

"I'll give it to doctor Connors...He said he knows how to destroy it...How to destroy all of them…" Jake decided, taking a deep breath as he looked at the capsule. "If he studies it, he can figure out how the Hive-Mind works for both the Upside Down and the symbiotes, find a weak spot, and destroy all of them in one shot."

"And we'll save everyone" Matthew realized happily, but then stopped, remembering just who Venom was. "...But Harry? Once he's no longer Venom, he still has that sickness, so how...?"

"His father is working on another cure... One that doesn't involve aliens or monsters from other dimensions" Jake explained.

That was enough to reassure everyone, Thomas walked over to him and putting a hand on his shoulder he said.

"You know if you need us we'll always be there..."

"...Even after this invasion is over" Barbara agreed.

"I know." Jake replied, smiling.

Terry smiled too and hugged him.

"Good to have you back, cousin." She said softly.

Everyone gave each other one last hug, and then they all prepared to fight and save New York

Jake pulled on his mask and spoke with renewed determination.

"Avengers Assemble"

They all got ready and so, after making sure everything was ready with their families, they headed for Dr. Connors lab.
