Erin sighed in disgust as she looked down at her broken arm and ankle. She had ended up needing to spend the night in the hospital after having a pin placed in her humerus to stabalise the bone while it healed from its break. At least she hadn't needed surgery on her ankle, too, and she was grateful for that one small mercy. Still, she was going to be laid up for six weeks with her ankle, doing most of her work from home with the support of Helen. She didn't want to think about the fact that her arm would take upwards of four months to fully heal.

"I have your tea here, bella," David said as he bustled into the living room. She gave him a small smile before taking the mug from his hand, wrapping her fingers around it. The warmth seeped into her skin quite pleasantly. "There's still about another hour before you can take your next pain pill, though."

"It's fine, neither hurt quite so bad, now that I've been all casted up. Six fucking weeks, David."

"Where you get to work from home, and not have to deal with boring meetings or interruptions to your day. Penelope is going to come over tomorrow afternoon to get your home office set up, and connect you remotely to the mainframe, so that you can access your files. Now, I have to run into work for a few hours, Hotch wants me to teach some class, since we've effectively grounded the team for the rest of the week, barring some truly heinous case. Do you need anything else before I head out?"

Erin set the mug on the coffee table next to her, looking at the remote, her tablet, and a stack of books that he'd brought her. "I think that I'm all set here. And you've left the knee scooter where I can easily access it, if I have to use the bathroom before you get home?"

"I have, it's right next to the recliner. And don't worry, the visiting nurse will be here tomorrow to help you out with meals and all that while I'm at the office. I love you."

"I love you, too," she replied with a smile before puckering her lips. David took the hint and bent to give her a soft kiss before he stood and gave her a bittersweet smile. "Go. I'll be fine. You left the pill on the table, I have tea and water, and plenty to occupy my time until you're back, and if I need anything, I'll call either you, or one of the kids. Okay?"

"Okay. God, I have to go."

"You do." She chuckled a little before waving him away. He nodded as he backed away from her, as if he didn't want to take his eyes off her. Erin understood his reluctance to leave her, and while she desperately wanted him to stay, she knew that they had to get things back to normal as soon as possible. Finally, he was out of her line of sight, and she settled in her chair as comfortably as she could, listening to the door close. Once she was certain she was alone, Erin reached over and picked up the top book and began to read.

It was easy to lose herself in the story, though she took occasional breaks to sip at her tea. Erin held out as long as she could before taking her pain pill, making a note of the time on her phone. She was just about to get back into her book when someone knocked on the front door. She frowned as she set the book aside and hobbled to her feet before slowly maneuvering her body so that she could get her knee onto the scooter and wheeled herself to the door.

"Who is it?" she called out as she fought to balance herself and unlock the door at the same time.

"It's Spencer."

Her frown deepened as she finally got the lock unlatched, and then she just as carefully slid backwards so that he could get in. "The door's open. I can't keep my balance and let you in."

Before she could hear his response, Erin turned and began to make her way back to the living room, knowing that she'd want to talk to him while she was comfortable. Erin could hear the front door open and close before she'd even gotten halfway, and she let out a frustrated breath as she tried to push herself a little faster. "I suppose this is the point where I ask if I can help steady you. If you fall and Dave finds out I didn't help you, he'd have my head on a platter."

She paused and carefully turned at the waist to look at her son. He had a bonsai tucked into the crook of one arm, which made her smile a little, but the serious look on his face reset her features into a neutral mask. "Just spot me. I need to be steady on my feet, and keep my strength up. I'm not going to sit and waste away all day."

He gave her a tight nod as they continued into the living room at her snail's pace. By the time she had gotten herself situated in her chair once more, her ankle had started to throb a little, though it wasn't as bad as it could be, and she attributed that to the medication she'd been prescribed. "I brought you a plant, Hotch said that you like living things more than bouquets."

"That was quite thoughtful of you. But you're angry at me, you have every right to be angry at me. Why are you here?"

Spencer set the bonsai tree on the coffee table before clasping his hands and look at his knees. "I want to bury the hatchet between us. I reacted very badly, as my mother has told me numerous times in the calls she's made since she found out that I knew the truth. I'm not quite ready to talk, I'm still formulating the questions I'd like to ask you. So this is my way of trying to smooth the waters."

"I see. Thank you."

"You're welcome. Um, Hotch thinks I'm taking a long lunch, so is there anything I can get you before I head back into the office? Have you eaten anything past breakfast?"

"What time is it?" she asked before picking up her phone and seeing that it was shortly after one. "I completely lost track of time. Don't worry, I can make myself a sandwich or something, if you want to get out of here."

"No, I'll make you something. I'm assuming that Dave keeps his pantry stocked with something good." He quickly got to his feet and made his way out of the living room. From the sure sound of his footfalls on the floor, she could tell that he had become familiar with the layout of the house, and she wondered if that was due to his eidetic memory. Shaking her head a little, she scrolled through her notifications, seeing that there were a number from David.

As she read what he'd sent her, she began to smell something delicious being made in the kitchen. She tried to silence the growling of her stomach as she replied to what David had written, before shooting off a quick text to Penelope and Alex, letting them know that there was hope of a détente between her and Spencer, as he was making her lunch. She only hoped that this was an actual thawing between them, and that maybe her life could start to be a little easier from this moment forward.
