Note: This time dance takes place in an ancient time that I chose that was long before humans started interacting with gargoyles. The gargoyles don't wear clothing at this time, but I don't mention anything mature. Just wanted the time dancers to see how gargoyles lived in the ancient primitive past.

Early Days Before Man Arrived

On their next dance, Brooklyn, Sil, and Fu-dog were all dropped to somewhere most unusual. They were deposited in a grassy field but with strange noises going on around them.

"What's that?" Sil asked curiously.

"I don't know." Brooklyn replied. "Stay close, Fu."

"Woof." Fu replied.

"Good boy." Sil said.

"Wonder what we are here to accomplish." Sil wondered.

"Me too." Brook pondered.

They wandered for a while and soon came to a clear flowing river. Brook and Sil both took the chance to fill their water canteens up. They also had a good long drink. But when Fu-dog heard some more footsteps, he growled.

"Quiet, boy." Brook ordered.

They quickly hid again in some nearby bushes. Brook and Sil couldn't believe their eyes. It turned out to be some gargoyles coming to the river to get some water in some carved rock buckets. But there was one thing that was different for sure: they weren't wearing any clothes.

Brooklyn couldn't recall a time when he had never known his kind to not wear any clothes, but then he recalled that clothes were originally a human custom. If it hadn't been for humans so long ago coming to make an alliance with his kind, he likely wouldn't have to wear his loincloth.

"These gargoyles must not hear of wearing clothes." Sil inquired quietly.

"This must be an ancient time before they did." Brooklyn replied softly. "Let's not get their attention just yet. Just try not to stare at anything too personal. Clothes were originally a human custom that gargoyles adopted and at this point in time, I doubt very much we'll find humans around here."

The new gargoyles, mostly beaked ones, there were five; brown, purple, green, yellow, blue, and a reddish color. There were two females and three males with them. The purple and yellow ones were the females. They had the body parts of any modern-day female gargess. The males were larger than they were, more pumped like Goliath and Broadway.

Brooklyn was glad he had a beak in this circumstance. "Let's follow them back to their lair." He suggested. "We might find a way to get some food there."

Sil was in agreement. "And what happens if they discover us?" Sil asked.

"In this time, we didn't have names. I hope they can talk. We can't tell them our names. We just say that we're travelers looking for a clan to help us. But for now, let's just follow them." Brook explained and ordered.

Sil and Fu-dog stayed close. Brooklyn led them while they silently followed these five gargoyles back to their lair. Surely, it couldn't be too far from here.

The new gargoyles led the trio back to their lair alright. There was a huge clan outside a cave that were handing out some fruits and some meat. There had been a large deer killed to feed them all.

Sil licked his lips, feeling his stomach growling. "Want some of that meat." He whined softly.

"Me too. I hope I can eat it raw because that's what they're doing." Brooklyn stated. "I'm so used to cooked food. I'm gonna go down and get us some food."

"Be careful." Sil declared.

"I will. But I can't go down there with my loincloth or my weapons." Brooklyn said. "Keep an eye on them for me."

"Okay." Sil replied.

Brooklyn took his sword and loincloth off to make himself seem more like one of the clan. He knew he would likely get questioned. But he and his companions were too hungry to not get food for.

It wasn't that Sil hadn't seen this side of him before, but it seemed so bizarre. The Skeksis kept Fu-dog by his side as their red companion went down to go try to mingle with these strange gargoyles.

The clan seemed so busy walking around and doing their activities. Brooklyn was heading towards the food area. But when he least expected it, there were stone spears pointing at him. He gasped and raised his hands in surrender.

"Uh, sorry to intrude. I come in peace." Brooklyn put on his most innocent, friendly face. "Can you understand me?"

"We understand you, stranger. You aren't one of our clan." A brown dragon-like male exclaimed. "Where are you from?" He demanded.

"Uh, I'm a traveler from a long way away from here. I don't know where I am. I was just looking for others of my kind and looking for food and water." Brooklyn explained. "I'm just passing through."

"Where is your clan, young one?" A dark elder blue female stepped forward.

"I left my clan for traveling the territories." Brooklyn made up something.

"Being alone out here is not smart, young male." The female declared.

"Do the predators try to eat you at night?" Brook asked.

"Yes, the meat-eating ones will try to eat us if given the chance. We stand together better in a group. We don't leave our clan alone. We travel together or not at all for our safety." The male explained. "Unless we banish an unruly one."

"Tell us, are you a banished male?" A young orange female demanded. Her beak was a little shorter than Brooklyn's.

"No. I just said I left to explore. My clan leader approved it. I'm from a clan in the west." Brook explained.

They seemed to be getting somewhere when there was a racket going on over the hill. There was some barking and growling and hissing.

"What's going on?" The lead male demanded fiercely.

Some more young warriors brought in a naked Sil and Fu-dog. Sil had obviously done the same thing to try to blend in. At least Sil's hair was a decent length on his body. Brook's shoulders slumped as he sighed in defeat.

"We come to join our companion for any chances of food." Sil stated. "Not want any fight."

"You sure a strange looking one." A young female said to him. "Not seen one like you before."

"And you bring a beast with you too."

"Yes." Sil answered. Fu-dog growled at him. "Shh!" Sil quieted him.

"So, red one, you weren't alone after all." The dark female retorted.

"I just came here to get food for me and my two companions. That's all. Please, we mean no harm to your clan." Brooklyn explained. He felt his stomach rumble and it was so loud that the other gargoyles heard it. "It's been a while since we have eaten anything. Been on the run from a lot of predators."

The leaders gave a head movement, and the warriors lowered their spears. "Fine. You can join us for some food, young ones. But any funny stuff and you will face some punishment."

"Thank you, great elders." Brooklyn smiled. "Over here, you two." He urged Sil and Fu over to him. They came at his request to be near him. "Where are the supplies?" Brook whispered.

"Left in bushes up on hill. Hidden." Sil replied.

"Good." Brook said.

They were all invited to sit down, and they were given some fruits and some meats. It was certainly different from other foods they had eaten before, but it was better than not eating at all. And they had no idea how long they would stay in this time period.

Sil noticed they stayed by a cave. "Do you take shelter in cave during the day?" he asked.

"No. That's our rookery. Our eggs are down there for their own protection. Surely, you must know that, young one." A green female declared.

"We adults are out here during the day asleep, and nothing bothers us when we are stone." A blue male stated.

"Of course." Sil replied.

There was a good meal and they made sure to eat their fill.

Soon, sunrise came, and the adults got to the higher rocks and Brooklyn and Fu-dog were stone along with all the other gargoyles after taking poses. Sil pretended to take a pose and yet, didn't turn.

Sil couldn't resist to go into the cave to see what this clan had in its secrets in the cave. He went down a cavern and soon found a clan's most precious resource: their eggs.

Sil had seen gargoyle eggs in the future, so he knew what they looked like. It was shocking the size of the rookery number of eggs. There were up to forty eggs that Sil counted. "Wow. Lots of eggs down here. Wouldn't be surprised if this clan had to split someday if clan gets too big." Sil remarked.

Aside from the rookery's eggs, there was nothing else down there. He went back outside and looked for their weapons. There was another area where stone dishes and weapons were. This clan sure did live primitively. They were a lot like humans in the stone age, literally.

Sil soon finished his exploring and went back to sleep by Brooklyn and Fu-dog. It was amazing that predators didn't bother them up there.

Sounds of the day woke Sil up though. There were roars and screeches from birds, animals being killed for food by wolves, big cats, bears, or terror birds. Sil made sure to stay undercover, to stay near Brooklyn. But he eventually went to go get some more meat for himself. He took some more fruit from their food stash and snuck it up to the travel pack to put in for him and his friends. He also wrote down on his time keeping scroll that they had landed in the early mammal days. But he would make sure to be by Brooklyn's side when they woke up.

…..

Later, at sunset, Sil got away from the breaking awake part and the gargoyles flew down to start tending to their food stash.

They had to go out every night to get new food because the predators would usually come and take their supplies in the daytime. It was better to lose the meat than their lives. Sil had seen some meat eaters come in and take the carcass apart too.

"Well, uh, thanks for your hospitality, but my friends and I should be going soon. All we need is some food to supply us with on the go." Brooklyn declared.

"In order for you to have our food, you will accompany the hunters on their nightly hunt, young male. As for you, wingless one, you will accompany the fruit gatherers to their gardens." The clan female leader decreed.

"Yes, elder." Sil replied. "Uh, beast comes with me."

"Very well. They'll need one to watch for danger."

Both Brooklyn and Sil went along for their roles.

Brooklyn helped bring down a good-sized caribou. It tried to run for its life, but he got nowhere. The gargoyles were scary with their glowing eyes and war-cries from above. Their stone spears were thrown into the deer's hide. But it took a big male to slash its throat and let it bleed out to kill it.

Brooklyn had never seen gargoyles hunt such large animals before. It would be enough to feed their whole clan for sure.

The prey was gutted after it went down. Big chunks of meat were cut off and carried back to the lair in leaves.

Sil accompanied the fruit gatherers from their tree gardens. There were melon fruits and cucumber fruits gathered. A good many. They had some nets made to carry them in. They took them back to the lair.

The ones that had stayed were the hatchling caretakers.

Once there, the gatherers started preparing the first meal of the night. The meat was soon delivered as well.

Brooklyn, Sil, and Fu-dog had one more meal with them and were offered fruits for their travels. Meat spoiled too easily so they ate it now.

"Thank you again." Brooklyn replied thankfully.

"You're welcome. Travel safe." The lead male declared.

They were glad to leave. They went back up to where Sil had stashed their supplies. It was still there. The clan still watched them warily as they left.

Once they got the supplies and their clothes, and weapons, they started wandering again and they got their clothes back on out of sight before continuing. "We got lots of food in storage for later." Sil declared. "I took some through the day."

"They might come looking for it." Brook warned them.

"No, they won't. They say predators take their food all the time. They think they did it." Sil smirked. "We got to have food for on the go."

"True." Brooklyn replied. "At least we earned our keep."

"Yep."

But they didn't get far when the Gate decided it was time to send them on their way again.

This was the earliest time of gargoyles being known about long before the arrival of humankind. Gargoyle numbers were at their highest at this time. It was where they didn't know what clothing was and none had names. They were safe in their stone sleep during the day but had found ways to invent weapons to assist them at times with their hunting or defending themselves.
