Chapter 164: Clumsy Ned
If there's one thing that The Pack love more than building new things, its tearing down old ones. One day, Oliver and Ned arrived at the old Brickworks. They were going to tear down the main warehouse. Miss Jenny and The Foreman were busy going over the demolition plans. Ned was excited most of all.
"Oh boy! I can't wait to demolish something."
At last Miss Jenny walked over to them.
"Alright boys, here's how we're going to do this. Oliver, we'll get your excavator fitted with a wrecking ball, we'll take out the north wall first. Ned, you'll be clearing the rubble. Monty will be here in a few minutes, so you can start here."
Ned's face fell, disappointed he wouldn't be doing any demolition work. Oliver offered him a kind smile, but was soon whisked away to start work.
A few minutes later, Oliver's excavator swung a large wrecking ball to level, ready to bring the wall down. The Foreman made sure everyone stood far back before turning to him.
"Alright Oliver. 1, 2, 2, GO!"
With a pull of a lever, the mighty wrecking ball hit the wall with full force...
but the wall did not fall down. Oliver scratched his head in confusion.
"Huh, never had that happen before."
Once more he swung the ball, striking it full force...
But still the wall remained up right.
"Bring out another wrecking ball!"
Soon the excavator was fitted with a wrecking ball twice the size of the last. Once more everyone stood far back.
"Alright, Oliver. 1, 2, 3, GO!"
The wrecking ball swung full force, hitting the wall with a resounding THUD...
But the wall refused to budge. Ned walked up, hearing the commotion.
"Is everything going alright? Can I help?"
"No, thank you Ned. Just a little bit of trouble."
Ned walked sadly away. Oliver wiped the sweat off of his forehead with a massive sigh.
"This wall will never fall down!"
"Don't worry, Oliver. We'll just get a larger wrecking ball."
Shortly Oliver saw the largest wrecking ball he had ever seen in his life attached to his excavator's arm. It was so massive that it took him a moment to raise it to level. This brought a smile to his face.
"If this doesn't bring down this wall, nothing will."
"Alright. 1...2...3...GO!"
With a mighty swing, the wrecking ball smashed into the wall with a tremendous THUD! The building shook, roofing slates fell to the ground...
But still the wall did not fall! Oliver lost it.
"OH COME ON!"
Meanwhile, Ned was sadly loading Monty's dump truck. He really wanted to help with the actual demolition. He's always causing accidents when he doesn't mean to, but today it wouldn't have mattered. Ned was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn't pay attention to what he was doing, and started to back his Steam Shovel towards a large chimney.
"Ned, watch out!"
Monty's warning came too late. The rear end of Ned's Steam Shovel rammed right into the chimney, sending it crashing to the ground... right on top of the warehouse. A large cloud of dust filled the air as everyone took cover. When the dust had settled, the building was in rubble, broken slate and bricks all that remained underneath the cracked chimney. Ned stared, dazed and confused.
"Um, oops?"
But The Foreman, Miss Jenny, and the workmen all cheered, making Ned proud. He happily ran over to a rather dusty, rather annoyed Oliver.
"I did it! I smashed that building to bits. Anything else you want me to smash?"
Oliver crossly wiped the dust off of his uniform.
"No, Ned. I think you've done quite enough."
A/N: Hope you guys enjoy this, because this will be the last Pack episode for a while. October starts next week, and encouraged by the positive review's for last year's original stories for Halloween, I'm going to do something...different.
